Video summary

In this intense Little League World Series matchup, Connecticut began with a commanding lead after scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, but their New Jersey opponents refused to crumble. Instead of folding under pressure, the New Jersey coach delivered an impassioned speech to his team, promising unwavering support and declaring that they would fight back no matter what happened. This resilience paid off immediately as New Jersey scored early in the bottom of the first inning, cutting Connecticut's lead in half and setting the stage for a dramatic battle that would define the rest of the game. The core of the conflict revolved around New Jersey's star player and the coach's son, Mason Renone, whom they strategically decided not to pitch to in order to prevent him from hitting. However, this defensive tactic backfired spectacularly when Connecticut utilized the rules regarding intentional walks, forcing pitchers to throw actual pitches which resulted in hits and runs that kept the game close. As the innings progressed, New Jersey eventually brought Renone into their own rotation, where he adopted a similar philosophy of not letting the opposing batters hit him, striking them out repeatedly with high fastballs and breaking balls. Despite his dominance on the mound, Connecticut managed to load the bases against him, highlighting the risks inherent in such aggressive pitching strategies. The turning point arrived in the bottom of the fifth inning when New Jersey intentionally walked Renone again to face a dangerous hitter, Owen Feliz, who proceeded to deliver a game-changing grand slam that tied the score and shifted the momentum entirely. Following this dramatic moment, Connecticut's offense exploded once more, scoring multiple runs to take an 8-6 lead and secure their victory in the championship game. The video concludes with New Jersey accepting their defeat with grace, while Connecticut celebrates their hard-fought win, showcasing the unpredictable nature of youth baseball where bold strategies can sometimes lead to unexpected outcomes.

This Little League team thought they had the strategy, but it backfired. Winner of this game advances to the Little League World Series and Connecticut off to a great start. They scored one, two, three, four runs in the top of the first inning. But you know who's not worried? The New Jersey coach. This is what he had to say to his team. It's part of the game. Listen to me. We're going to keep battling for you. We going to keep battling for you. I promise you. We going to go down. We got pumps. SO WHAT? WE'RE GOING TO PUSH BACK, BUT I CAN'T LOSE YOU. You guys stay with me and stay with your team. And I promise you, we're going to beat it. So stay with me. All right, I'm going to stay with you and stay with me. >> Man, sometimes those speeches in the little league, they give me chills. Sometimes make me cringe. That one got chills. So New Jersey, they open up the bottom of the first with a hit. The first pitch they see, they get a hit. They're already fighting from the start. Up next is their star player and the coach's son, Mason Renone. And he is a stud. and their plan is to not let him beat them. Now, in the Little League World Series, you can only intentionally walk a batter without throwing a pitch and just throw up the fours once. So, if you do it more than that, you have to throw the pitches. That's what they opt to do here with no outs, one runner on, and up for nothing. And now Owen Feliz comes up behind Ren Conn, and he's like, "You don't want to pitch to him? Pitch to me." Big swing, 0 and one. That one somehow wasn't a strike. One and one. And then puts it in play. A gapper. And guess what? That scores one. And that scores two. So you didn't want Renone to hit a two-run home run. Don't worry. Feliz came through. BOOM. LET'S GO. That's right. That's right. So New Jersey cut the lead in half, but then in the third inning, Connecticut scored two more runs. So New Jersey says, "All right, time to put in Renone." The guy they won't pitch to is now on the mound and he says, "You don't let me hit. Well, I'm not going to let you hit." Starts him out strike one and then strike two on the foul ball and then goes with the curve breaking ball thing for strike three. Walks off the mound, nods, "Yep, you ain't hitting, guys. You don't let me hit, I don't let you hit. That's the deal. Next batter comes in. Oh, look at that delivery. The separation of the leg in the top half, the fast ball, and then the breaking ball gets a ground out to shortstop. Out number two, and the next batter comes up, the lefty drops one in for strike one. Fast ball strike two. And then fast ball strike three. Walks off the mound. Let's go. Boom. Let's go. And guess who is coming to the plate in the bottom of the third? And now there's two outs. There's two runners on. Are they going to let him hit? A home run would make it a six to five game. The fans are cheering. Come on. Come. No. They're going to intentionally walk him again to load the bases. That brings the tying run to the plate. Interesting strategy. Owen Feliz says, "Great. I like cooking." First pitch outside doesn't chase. up 20. Ooh, fouled back. Doesn't chase. Three and one. Is he going to walk in a run? No. Strike two. So, it's a full count. Pretty big pitch. Let's put it in play. Fouls it back. Next pitch. In play. Renone. The runner at first, beats him to second because he's about twice that second baseman's side. Umpire says safe. Another RBI. Time. We'll look at it. We'll look at it. Now they go look at the replay. But if this stands, it's another RBI for Feliz who they walked to get to. He would have two at bats where they walk Renone and Feliz comes through and it's very close. I maybe his foot hits before the kid. The kid really steps up and stomps down. I think there's not like could he be hitting? I don't know. Obviously Little League regionals doesn't have extensive camera work. They say from everything we've seen, we're the best. He's safe. Bam. High fives all around. Ring cone. You can stop me from hitting, but you can't stop me from running. Let's go. Still in a jam, though. Connecticut's got to get out of it. Strike two. Base is loaded and gets him. Strike three. They maintain the TWO-RUN LEAD. COME ON. Renone back on the bump, though. And he has a pretty strict rule. You don't let me hit, I don't let you hit. The one pitch, high fast ball hit right back to him. Gobbles it up. I got it. I got it. It's a small field. I'm a big kid. Out number one. Breaking ball in there for strike one. Fast ball in there for strike two. Fast ball in there for strike three. Look at his reaction and cone. He's like, "You're not even going to swing." What? Get out of here, dude. Not even going to swing. First pitch. Fouled back. Oh boy. Devastating breaking ball. Fouled back again. Hey, he's fighting. He's staying. Oh, he's out. Ooh, that's three quick outs for Rone. And now back in the fifth inning, he has not allowed a base runner yet since he came in. And he is going to continue to not allow a base runner, not allow them to hit. Just devastating them with the high heat. And then the breaking ball. See you, dude. I'll go for a walk. You go for a walk to the dugout. Fights it off. Swings through it. Two strikes. Fast ball right by him. Boom. What? Got nothing for me? You got nothing for me? You got no pitches for me. You got no swings for me. All right, let's go to the bottom of the fifth. They're still down two, but they've got a runner on first and now a runner on second with one out. We got motion. And up comes our dude Mason Rone. They're booing already. You going to walk him? Boo. And they do. They choose not to throw the pitches. And he himself, he looks at the cars. Yeah. Boo. I came here to play, not to not play. The coach of Connecticut says, "Hey, hey, let them boo. Let them boo. Let them boot. We're going to play right in the baseline." Okay. So, we're kind of in. We're half in, right? We're not all the way in. We're half in. A hard hit ball. Go home. But I want to be able to try to cut off that ground ball that maybe can get through. Okay. >> Hey, some good information there. Let's cut off the ground ball. This kid hit one up the middle last time. Well, guess what? Feliz says there's bases loaded. I'm not going to hit one up the middle again. And I'm going to do what I did in the first at bat and go deep. It's over your head. Infield doesn't matter, but it stays in the ballpark. One run's going to score. A second run's going to score. Tie game. Renone gets to third. Feliz gets to second. Let's go. Keep walking them. I like hitting. LET'S GO. LOOK AT THE CROWD. Bon verse everybody. Look at this swing. I love the lower half. Eye on the ball. Up. Weight back. Shift the weight. Connect. Drive the ball. Home run. Grand slam. No. Falls onto the warning track, but he scores two. Ties the game. That is his fifth RBI on the day. And a little flip of the bat. And then he hustles into second. As soon as I seen him drop it, I was like, I'm scoring. I'm scoring. I'm moving. But he didn't. He got the third so they could have a little hangout pal sesh with his buddy. And how about that? You walk the monster, you get the little monster. The next batter comes up. He hits the ground ball up the middle. The coach was worried about that. Gives New Jersey the lead. Up one run. But we don't stop there. Momentum, baby. Runners on the corners. And the next kid is just going to hit a flail shot. They're dropping it in everywhere on the ground in front. Feliz comes in to score and now they're up 8-6 and they have flipped the game. It was 4 nothing. It was 6-2. It's 8 to6. It's a championship game. They're fired up. It's Bon verse everybody. Getting composed. Three outs to go. First two pitches were balls. Comes right at him for strike one. gets the swing on the high fast ball. Got him set up. Fast ball looking. Strike three. Where you going, kid? Stops and stares. Next batter grounds out to shortstop over to first. TWO OUTS. OH, that kid number four. I just want to shout him out. He hadn't gotten out yet. He is like a beast for Connecticut. So, he slides in defeat. And now there's one out to go. And the kids are fired up. And the parents are can't believe it. I'm going to have to use all my sick days and all my PTO. This is going to be hell, but I'm so proud and so deep breaths. Catcher says, "Hey, let's take a breather." Says, "Yeah, let's come talk." They all get together. They're like, "Yo, boys, we're about to do this." They're fired up. Look around. Let's do it. One more out. You guys ready? You guys ready? One more out. One more. Little players meeting on the mound. Can he finish it off? They haven't let him hit. He hasn't let them hit. No hits since he took the mound. The two- fast ball right back to Renone. He grabs it, runs over, flips it, and boom. Bon completes it. You don't let our best player hit. Don't worry, we got others. Bayon New Jersey representing the Metro and Little League World Series.
