Video summary

The video provides a detailed recap and review of the 2026 film *Resident Evil*, arguing that despite its deviations from the source material, it stands as the best video game movie ever made. The narrator recounts watching the film twice, including its opening night, and praises its ability to balance horror with humor, creating a roller-coaster experience for the audience. While acknowledging that hardcore fans might be upset by the lack of direct story tie-ins or specific game plot points, the reviewer defends the film's decision to tell an original story, noting that many video game narratives can feel repetitive. The recap follows the protagonist, Brian, a courier who is initially just trying to deliver a fragile package while navigating chaotic conditions near Raccoon City, only to become entangled in a larger outbreak after accidentally hitting a pedestrian and picking up a zombie victim. The narrative progresses as Brian's journey turns into a survival ordeal filled with iconic video game mechanics brought to life on screen. He encounters various threats, including a frozen corpse that turns out to be a zombie, a police officer who dies instantly upon impact, and grotesque creatures like dogs with squid-like tentacles emerging from their necks. The reviewer highlights how the film faithfully recreates gameplay elements such as scavenging for ammunition in fridges, upgrading weapons, and exploring dark sewers infested with rat zombies. A particularly memorable sequence involves Brian entering an abandoned RV where he finds a little girl infected by a creature on her foot; unlike the reviewer who would have left her behind, Brian picks her up, leading to a tragic jump scare where she transforms into a monster before being killed. This section emphasizes the film's commitment to the visceral horror and dark comedy that defines the franchise. As Brian reaches his destination at the Umbrella Corporation headquarters, the tension escalates with a relentless pursuit by a "stalker zombie" and a final confrontation in a nightmare-like maternity ward filled with monstrous babies. The climax sees Brian bitten by an infected girl earlier in the film, leading to his transformation into a grotesque monster himself as he fights through the lab to deliver the cure vial. In a twist that subverts typical hero tropes, the film ends on a disturbing cliffhanger where the scientist hesitates to administer the antidote before being killed by Brian's mutated form, leaving the protagonist as part of the very virus he tried to stop. The reviewer concludes that while the ending is bleak and unsatisfying for those seeking a traditional victory, it aligns perfectly with the gritty, unforgiving nature of the *Resident Evil* universe, making this film a standout success in adapting the games for cinema.

When 2026's Resident Evil ended with the courier looking off yonder and seeing all the zombies approaching him and then he launched a rocket and said, "I am so freaking sick of all these evil residents. I knew we were watching a peak film based on the video game one to one as a matter of fact." Okay, so maybe Resident Evil Zack KGER edition isn't very similar to the video games. That doesn't mean it should not be worthy to carry the title. I've seen the movie twice now. I went to opening night, had a great time, took my family a couple days ago. They absolutely loved it. So, my body is now ready to give you a spoiler breakdown, a recap of the pros, which they're mostly pros, and a couple of the cons. I can see where a video game purist, a Resident Evil super fan would be upset with the changes or maybe just the lack of uh video game tie-ins, story progressions that are in this movie. But as someone like myself, a a tourist that's played a handful of the games ever since they've launched way back like 30 years ago and have kind of picked and choose the ones I wanted to play. I was always for them doing a new story because I find the video game stories to be a [ __ ] show. All right, with that out of the way, let's get into Resident Evil. We open with a courier heading into a hospital. Oh, I should point out I'm going to try to recap the film from beginning to end to the best of my memory. I'm not looking anything up. I'm going off script, off book. So, join with me. Uh, and if you like what I'm doing here, feel free to sub. It's free of charge. Doesn't doesn't cost you a dime. It's nice. Okay. We open with a courier heading into the hospital. I'm not really sure what the name of the place is or the town. All I know is it's adjacent to that of Raccoon City, the the video game town, of course. He's on the phone with his girlfriend. And there's kind of a little ongoing plot line, a subplot if you must, where she's Prager's and they're not sure if they want to keep the baby or not. And he's not the most forthcoming with his answer. It's it's kind of a your body, your choice, sort of a copout answer, but we'll get to that in a second. Right now, he has a package to drop off. The sassy black lady at the front counter tells him to take it to the back. He's looking around. It's kind of chaotic there. There's open wounds being worked on in one of the rooms. There's doctors flying by and at some point he just does a handoff to one of the doctors who says he's running late. Doesn't get that signature he desperately needs though. And this is going to be one of several little ongoing jokes throughout the movie. He's really hellbent on doing his job correctly and getting that sign off. So, he heads back to the front desk where a sassy black lady, who I love by the way, she needed more screen time. I was all for this dynamic between the two. He tells her that he didn't get the signature. He needs it. And she goes, "Well, why don't you just sign it yourself, gives him an idea, he checks out her name tag, puts her John Doe down, or Jane Doe, if you must." Right before he's ready to go home and see his girlfriend, one of the doctors pops out and says they have another delivery that needs to get taken care of. to sweet. He declines at first, which was the wise choice and one I'm sure he's going to live, well, maybe not live to regret later on in the film. She says it's a priority a I think is what she says. I saw this twice and I don't remember. Basically, it's a number one priority sort of a meal and he needs to get this thing delivered. Before he goes, she asks if he's equipped for the weather. Um, he says, "Yeah, I got a jacket on. I got a hat." Because it's a it's basically a blizzard out. It's snowing. It's miserable. The o the the roads are icy. He says he's spent some time in Minnesota, so he knows how to handle the terrain. I can relate. I'm from Minnesota myself and he absolutely cannot handle the terrain. That ice is brutal on those roads. We're now in the car. He's heading to Raccoon City where this package needs to go. Doesn't know what's inside. We'll find out during this road trip. He starts talking to his girlfriend again. She's crying about the baby and he's like, "Listen, [ __ ] I don't know. He's actually very nice. He's a very fun character to watch." I like this actor a lot in Weapons where he was like 45 lbs lighter. He lost a ton of weight for that role. Good to see him a little healthier in this one. He's just not very supportive. Uh which to be fair, you know, he's driving in some bad conditions, but he should have been all in one way or the other. And he he just kind of left her hanging. The phone lost service and while he's putting around, as often is the case in films, he looks down from the road and some lady trapes across. Boom. He hits her. She rolls over the top of this thing and he does stop, which, you know, to be fair, in a lot of horror movies, they just keep going. So, I was already pretty happy that Zack Kger was going to give this character some pretty decent uh logic to his name. He makes some stupid choices here and there, of course, but overall I was very impressed by how a lot of this stuff played out. These were things I would have done as a person. I thought, "Wow, golly gee, he's doing things like a real person does." He gets out of the car. He walks across. He sees the trail of blood on the ground. It's not a good situation. And then he follows the footprints into the woods. A situation short, of course, for situation. Using his flashlight off his phone, he's able to kind of check out the surroundings. And what should he see ahead? A body in the snow that looks like it's been petrified. This woman looks like she just got out of the taxiderermy office. Just a miserable sight to see. She's bloody. She's just frozen in place. Granted, it's freezing cold outside. So, he does the honorable thing. He asks if she's okay. He picks her up and kind of shuffles her along back to his car. puts her in the front seat, which I don't I don't know. He and this cop that's going to show up in a little while both put the lady in the front seat. Feels like a missed opportunity to not be creeped out and just have her lay in the back. But anyway, he's in the car with this woman who's constantly like touching his face. It's grossing him out. He's pushing her away. It's funny. There's so many funny little things in this movie. And I love how Kger balances it so well. One minute you'll be laughing, the next there's A JUMP SCARE. OH MY GOD, SHIVER MY TIMBERS AND then you're laughing again. It's this roller coaster ride. I imagine if you have any sort of a heart condition, this would not be a great movie to watch. But for me, it was a roller coaster, baby, and I was there for it. He does not drive long with this lady before the lights shine behind him to that affforementioned police officer. He pulls him over. And again, unlike a lot of stupid movies, our hero takes responsibility. He doesn't come up with some [ __ ] excuse. He says, "Yeah, I clipped the [ __ ] She was hopping around on the road. Middle of the dark, icy conditions. I can barely see. I don't know what she was thinking." The cop is furious with our protagonist. I IMDb says his name is Brian. Again, I watched this twice. I don't know if his name is ever said, but regardless, Brian takes a bre breathalyzer test. Things are looking okay there. And before they get into the car again, which the officer kindly suggests he will escort them to that raccoon hospital together, Brian tosses out this option. Why don't you uh why don't you take the lady who's looking like a rotted corpse in the car with you? Because if she starts, you know, convulsing or something, I'm not trained for this. Cop begrudgingly says, "Fine." gets in the car, he leads the way, and not even a mile down the road, that cop car rolls off the side of the road and into a field. Brian's got a choice to make now. He can ignore this whole fiasco and he can go on his merry way or he can pull over and see if he's okay. He does what I would do. He's concerned. He gets out of the car. He goes to see if the officer is all right. Officer's not all right. He's dead. Upside down, hanging from his seat belt. Lady Mia, she's gone. This leads to a really great shot, by the way, where Kger puts that camera low down and it's kind of panning around this police officer car. The lights are flashing. It's cold out. You got this great atmosphere as Brian makes his way into the vehicle. He tries to grab the the walkietalkie thing. I don't know what they're called. Hey, uh officer. Well, not an officer, but uh the officer's dead. just checking in to let you know that no one's talking back. He's not sure how to use the intercom system. And uh at that point, boom, lady zombie chick smashes against the passenger window, freaks Brian and me out, and then she starts skullking across the front of the car, at which point Brian uncips the gun from the police officer, points it at the [ __ ] door, and says, "Don't come any closer or I will shoot you." She comes closer. He can't figure out how to use the gun because the safety's on. So, he bolts out the other door and he starts running around this car as she's chasing him around. Eventually, after several kicks to her face and her sprinting away in rage, she's going to go full boore at him, to which we jump into a firsterson view of him holding THE GUN AND BOOM, shoots her dead to the ground. Or so he thinks. He checks her out for a second, not in like a a sexual way, although I've seen worse, and she seems dead. So, he gets into his car, which now won't start. Oh, great. Another stereotypical film, the big cliche where the old beater car doesn't work because, you know, it's convenient for THE SCRIPT. RIGHT. WRONG. IT DOESN'T work because he shot the [ __ ] engine out. That's fun. And this is a joke that's going to come up later again when a guy he meets up with says, "Hey, don't shoot by the car. You could uh you know, you could knock out the engine." Both showings I went to, the audience absolutely love that. Now that he's royally [ __ ] on the side of the road with a non-working car and a delivery of it could be a heart, could be a kidney, a liver, penis, no idea, something fragile. He has to find a way to get out of Dodge and get to Raccoon City. Well, he sees a farmhouse on yonder, so he goes on foot, which leads to another comical scene where he has to hop over an electric fence. He tries his best to do kind of a pump up the jam motion, and then as he gets over, he clips the top of the barbed wire, shocks himself a few times, swears to himself as he constantly does throughout this. He's saying [ __ ] more than a typical Quentyn Tarantino film. I mentioned this in my main review, but it gives me a lot of like Home Alone vibes in this whole section of the movie. He's muttering. He sounds like Joe Peshy a little bit. I'm also getting shades of my boy Pinkman throughout this from Breaking Bad. He's got the hat. He says [ __ ] a couple times, especially in this scene that's coming up where a dog shot out of a cannon runs around the side of the fence towards our protagonist. He sprints into the barn, goes up the ladder. The dog of course grabs his back Jean. He's like, I hate you. And then he pulls the ladder up and then wisely uses it to shut the door so the dog can't go back out the way he came, allowing our hero to easily hop out the back with the ladder that he threw at the dog out of frustration. This leads to another hilarious scene where there's a a meat hook outside and so he's going to take a nice Olympic jump, grab onto that, and he just drops straight to the ground. But I half expected Kevin Mallister to come out and go, "Yes." This leads to the biggest jump scare of the film. He backs up against the wall of the barn, catches his breath, and here's Doggy. The dog blows through the [ __ ] wall of the barn, causing our hero to scamper backwards, starts swearing at THE MUT BEFORE his mouth opens up. Tentacles fly out, grab the courier, and start pulling him towards the dog's mouth. Courier scrambles, grabs the gun, shoots the dog in the face, killing him dead. This will be our first big taste of Resident Evil video game type stuff. I fondly, I shouldn't say fondly, I hate these things, but the the type of zombies that when you shoot their heads off, another head comes and it's like nasty and large and gross and it takes like 35 more shots to kill the damn thing. Those are always fun. The dogs have been there since the first game. They were represented much closer in those crappy uh six Resident Evil Ma Jovich films. I think it was also in uh Welcome to Raccoon City. That movie sucked the worst. Welcome to Raccoon Shitty. Then there was also the Resident Evil TV show. I didn't watch after the first episode because it was so bad, but I did see a clip where there was a scientist dancing around and singing a song like it WAS A MUSICAL. WHAT? SO, THE BAR IS so incredibly low. The fact that this doesn't have really much of anything to do with the video games as far as plot goes means very little to me. I'm here for this ride and man it is just a fun experience from front to back. A cool breezy 90minute rated R. Swearing violence blood gore. Anyway, let's get back to it. He sprints to the farmhouse now. He's at the front door. Ding ding ding ding. Hey, my car broke down. Uh, also there's a dead cop, a zombie lady running around that I shot, and a dog that has the face of a squid monster. Anyway, can I get in? He didn't say all that. He just said his car broke down. I'd like to think though he did say that stuff in the other cut of this film that supposedly has 30% more jokes that the director cut out because it was too funny. I'd like to see that cut cuz I I like a good laugh even if it is a a horror zombie creature feature. As it stands, this movie was plenty funny on its own. He opens up the front door because no one answers. He does hear some rumaging upstairs, but instead of going upstairs to check things out, he's going to make a lay of the land down here. And he realizes the gun he has in his possession only has four bullets left. So, he checks around the room, sees a beautiful shotgun mounted to the fireplace wall. He grabs that down, and now he needs to get some bullets. This is very much just like your typical Resident Evil video game. You get a gun. It has like two bullets in it if any. And then you have to rumage around pulling out drawers, opening random freezers and fridges where you'll for some reason find some bullet shells. They do add a nice little life promo for the cereal where he grabs a box, has it perfectly facing the camera, and he starts chugging milk while he's enjoying it. I really wanted some life cereal. So, they did their job. That was some good product placement. He then sees a phone on the wall. He dials 911 several times. goes to a busy operator so he cannot get through. Clearly, shit's going on outside of his little scenario. He then leaves a message for his girlfriend, hoping she'll call back on this number. She will try to call back, but he's going to be in a very tough spot. All right. After looking around everywhere, he finally investigates upstairs. This is another section of the movie that's very similar to what you do in the video games. Opening doors. At one point it opens and it's pure black, like a call out to the old video games where you don't know what's going to be on the other side of the room before that light finally makes itself known. He opens another door where there's just a a nice lit room with a typewriter in the middle. Tip of the hat to the video gamers out there. And then finally, he makes his way across the hall. And this is where he's going to see out the window the zombie lady very much alive and very much pissed off. This chick is going to be following him for the rest of the movie, which is also very similar to some of the Resident Evil games where you are stalked by a big bad that runs after you. I'm going to call her a stalker zombie going forward because I don't remember all the terminology for the different games. As he looks out the window, he watches her go over the electric fence. Damn it, it didn't stop her. And make her way into the house. The camera kind of pans around the room with him as you hear all like the sounds going on downstairs as she's like smashing [ __ ] around. So, he starts scrambling to get bullets in the gun, locks that [ __ ] up, spins around, boom, and blows her [ __ ] head off. He doesn't have a lot of time to really appreciate what he had accomplished, though, because just then another zombie jumps at him, which is the husband. Turns out the the lady lived here. So, we had the the the wife, the husband, and that cute, lovable dog. He's going to end up killing all three. In a matter of speaking, they were already dead to begin with, I suppose. He jumps on him eventually. He shoots and kills the dad. And that's not going to be the end of it, though, because we're going to see that some slithering squid [ __ ] is going to come out of the neck. The slithering squid [ __ ] grabs onto the other one. I think it's that the husband's head is still intact. Pulls him into her and they connect right at the neck. This prompts our hero to ignore the phone call coming in from his girlfriend Michelle, I think her name is. She looks really cute. He's He's got himself a good-looker just based on her little profile pick. She's probably faking it. It's probably not how she looks. It's a filter. Anyway, he steps over the bodies, gets the hell out of the farmhouse, but before he goes, he wisely grabs the keys to the truck parked out front, and attempts to head through the gate, which naturally is locked. Another major call out to Resident Evil, as you're constantly having to find keys that go into locks. It's always the one you find though that ever works to that specific one and ends up being something way down the road. And he's gonna find this out the hard way as well as the key he has on him does not work. So he shoots the lock several times with his freaking shotgun, but that lock just won't budge. So he does exactly what I would do and every action star does in a film. He gets in that big truck and he rams through that gate only getting like 75% through. The truck is suspended half off the ground. Tires spinning. He can't get out of there. And of course, he checks the visor where the key to the gate was after the fact. Now he's on foot and he better start hauling ass because he looks back at that house one more time where we see that iconic shot from the trailers where the hands grab onto the door frame and then the freaking legs grab onto the top of the door frame. We have a ball of a person rolly pulling through the yard. Now we get to a real fun sequence where he's on the road and he has to go through a dark ass tunnel. It's it's the only option. And so forward he goes. He turns on his phone to light his way. There's abandoned vehicles everywhere. He looks over. One of the cars has some green herbs in there, which is another reference to the game. You use these things to heal yourself when you're hurt. And he finds that there's a large RV wedged between both sides of the tunnel. The only way to get around it is to go under the vehicle. No, joking. He's not going to do that. That would that would probably be what I would do. This is one of the situations where I think I would have crawled underneath, but he's going to opt to go inside. He opens the door and then the bottom foot thing comes out, which did startle me. Oh god. Oh my stars, jeepers, creepers. He goes inside where we have some pretty sweet firstperson view again of the camera phone looking around with the flashlight on. Uh it's abandoned. It looks like uh some shit's gone down. And then he hears a noise on the far end of the vehicle coming from the accordion bathroom door. Inside a little girl looks normal. Doesn't have any scars. Doesn't have any bleeding. Seems perfectly intact. you know, all five fingers, a squid monster coming off one of her feet, as all KIDS HAVE. WAIT, WHAT? YEAH, this girl who's uh hiding out waiting for her mom is very scared. She's concerned that this thing that's on her foot is going to just get worse. Now, I think this is probably the only time where Brian and I did not agree. We didn't see eye to eye on this one. Call me cold-blooded, but uh I already know what that squid [ __ ] is capable of doing. How it has no problem snapping onto things in close proximity. I know that she's infected. So, I'm probably going to say, "All right, sweetie. Everything's okay. Stay here hidden. I'll go find your mom." And then I close that door and I go on my merry way. But Brian decides in his INFINITE WISDOM TO GO reach out and pick the GIRL UP. HE OF COURSE DOESN'T get close to her because that squid thing snaps at him, hooks onto his leg. Girl starts levitating in the air where out of nowhere, peekab-boo, [ __ ] Her face rips open. She's got an eyeball in the middle and now she looks like she came out of the video game franchise The Last of Us. Using his trusty shotgun, he blows that chick away. And we get to see his shocked reaction for a couple seconds before the camera points at what he's looking at. And it's just a Picasso on the wall. Just a splatter of blood and nothing left of that poor kid. So, I think I was being the more humane person by leaving her at least alive for a little longer. Brian opted to just blow her ass away. All right, he's now out of the vehicle. He gets onto the road. And here's where we're going to finally get a little bit of exposition to what's happening. Stalker Zombie is rolly polling on the side of the road. And here we have a car coming right at our lead. Strong female lead cop hops out, starts opening fire on the roly pololy creature. She was that super boring, bland actress from that terrible last season of True Detective with Jodie Foster. I was really looking forward to that season. It got high acclaim. It sucked ass. It went nowhere. It was boring and a waste of time. Anyway, I was concerned when she showed up because I thought, "Oh god, are we going to spend a lot of time with this boring chick again in this movie?" Thankfully, she has no more than maybe 2 minutes of screen time. He's going to hop in the car with these two. They're going to see that he is the courier they've been looking for because they work for Umbrella. It's uh it's this woman and then this guy who I don't know I can't remember what his role is at the company. He's one of the higherups I suppose and he's desperately wanting to get his hands on this because it turns out the courier is carrying one piece of the equation that will lead to a cure to this [ __ ] show that's broke out. I don't believe they specifically call it the T- virus or the P virus or the [ __ ] virus. I don't know. I I I think it's just virus. I will also point out that I went pee during this scene because I knew it was the only part of the movie I didn't care about. So, uh, if they said any further exposition, I missed it the second time. I think this guy is the dude from that movie Clint Eastwood directed that was pretty solid where he's framed by the FBI based on a true story for uh, like planting a bomb at a concert. Can't remember the name of that film. I reviewed it. Anyway, he's very silly in this movie. This would be my only real criticism of the film is the way this scene is shot specifically looks odd. Everything up until this point looked very gritty and real. Even with the CG on display, it fits so nicely. But here, he seems almost green screened into this car or something's just off with this scene. Maybe it was one of those deals where they they did it in post or they you know they like rushed out to get a little bit more exposition into the movie so they filmed it after everything else was shot. I don't know. But this was the only spot in this whole film where I thought something's a little off here. Anyway, the courier is thinking what the audience is thinking. Uh, dude, you're telling me Umbrella put all their faith in some random ass sketchy driver to deliver what is essentially a big piece of the cure to this virus you guys accidentally released. And then the uh the gentleman says, "Well, no, no, you were like an afterthought backup plan. We didn't really need you, but uh Butterfingers McGee over at the lab broke some vial, so now you are absolutely 100% necessary. I after seeing this again, starting to think that Kger, two things are going on here. Either a Heath, he's treating Umbrella as a completely incompetent, super wealthy corporation, and it's kind of a reflection off of what we deal with in the real world. how we we give all this power to these people and they do not take the proper precautions. The other thing that could be happening which I was kind of starting to get in my own head can in the second time watching is every scientist later on is incredibly young. They're very they feel very green like they haven't done a lot of this before. Even though they're they're very like proficient, I suppose at like hopping on to the different stations, they still seem like they're out of their league here, out of their element, which makes me think that perhaps most of Umbrella's main higherups were wiped out by this thing, and we're just not getting that story. And so we have like the Sea Squad, the interns have taken over. In either case, it doesn't really matter that much to me because I'm here for the ride with the Courier. But as far as lore goes, it would be interesting if we get another one of these, which I'm guessing we will based on how well it's doing at the box office, that they would address what actually happened because all we get are just like little hints and it's not very satisfying hints like, oh, he dropped the vial or like how did the virus leak out to begin with. We don't know because kind of like Tom Cruz in War of the Worlds, the vantage point is that of a regular schmo. Okay, now we have entered Raccoon City, a place where everything is real shitty. There's fires going on. There's abandoned cars everywhere. It's pandemonium. These guys get out in an alleyway where they're stuck between some fire vehicles and a hard place, aka a bunch of zombies. True detective chick gets out, starts shooting a bunch of them, and then stupidly decides to press further off into the shadows, leading to some more comedy where our hero and this uh big wig over at Umbrella are sitting there waiting for her to return. They eventually make an executive decision to just leave her ass behind, which is fair. That's I think that's probably a fair thing to do. But uh oh, they don't have the keys. She's got them on her person, prompting Brian to get out and go get them back. This leads to another fun scene where he sees only the bottom half of her body left, and he tries to reach for the keys, but there's clearly some squid tentacles pulling her further into the shadows, trying to use her as bait for this guy. Brian puts up for this for exactly two tugs and then he says, "Yeah, I'm done. We're not doing this anymore." He turns on heel and goes back to the car. I probably in this situation noticing the other abandoned vehicles would have maybe just popped inside one of them to see if there were some keys rather than even attempting to go for the the bottom half of this body. But regardless, he's not going to have a lot of time on his hands because the heavy umbrella guy is getting pulled by his leg off into a different alleyway. Brian grabs his new gun, which is another Resident Evil thing throughout all the games. He's constantly leveling up his guns as he goes. He starts with the handgun from the cop, then he gets the shotgun, then he gets like this AR-15 out of this vehicle from the umbrella company, at which point he has to figure out how to use and he doesn't use it. Well, he spackles shooting the guy, and then he gets pulled into the alleyway, of course, dead. Brian, now on foot again, heads into the sewers, leading to another familiar setting from the video game franchise. We love our sewers. They're always my least favorite part of any of the games. Clearly, Kger doesn't like them either because he's down there for about 4 minutes. While down there, he runs into this queso looking [ __ ] This real fat bald dude who looks like he came out of a Dune movie. And he's just kind of popped a squat over on the other side of the the sewer system. But all Brian needs to do is get to that ladder. So he's kind of making his way over, talking to himself, keeping things kumbaya. Naturally, it's kumbaya na. As that guy's stomach blows open, and a bunch of little infected rat zombies start fleeing towards Brian. He grabs that gun and takes all of them out, climbs the ladder, gives one more look down for good measure where he sees the rats start to hook together and they're doing that whole roly pololy thing as well. So, he gets out of there and this leads to a really fantastic sequence. I don't really know how they shot it. It's It's very impressive where there's undead up on the rooftops. I just know people in the comments will be like, "NONE OF THESE ARE ZOMBIES. THESE AREN'T ZOMBIES." I I DON'T CARE. FINE. WHATEVER you want to [ __ ] classify him as. There's dead people that are still alive kind of up on the rooftops and they start kamicazi jumping off at the courier who full boore sprints at the camera and bodies are slamming into cars. Guts and blood are flying everywhere. Legs are whipping off. He hops over, slides off of two cars, and then he looks back at the carnage and it's just an absolute [ __ ] show. He makes an observation here, oddly late for him, where none of the zombies get back up. And he goes, "Oh, so they can die." But he saw earlier when he was in that alleyway, all those zombies that the the lady killed, they they didn't get back up either. So his observation's a little late for me, but that's fine. He looks up and he finally made it to his destination. The building that's like 28 stories, half on fire with a skyway. It's the Umbrella Corporation. Destiny, short for destination. Of course, this leads to our final lock joke where he goes to the garage underneath the building and there's a lock on the gate. He shoots it, completely misses, and then he just goes point blank range and finally successfully takes off a lock to the gate. Opens that thing up, tries to take the elevator, and it doesn't work. This leads to the only real slowdown moment of the film, unless you want to count that little car sequence where they're driving for a few minutes. He tries to call his girlfriend, gets no reception, so he hits record on the phone and he leaves a voicemail for her. You know, the actor gets to show his chops a little bit. There's some tears produced. And then this goes into a comedic moment where we have the guy on the intercom going, "Uh, crying guy, can you go put your finger on that intercom so I can talk to you?" Ryan shares that he has made it with the delivery. He has the vial they need to get the cure out to the public. So they tell him to take the stairs cuz the elevator's on the fritz because you know it's it's a complete chaotic situation. So he starts making his way up the stairs. He gets to four and he's completely out of breath leading him to take an elevator which works like a charm. He's like, "Why didn't I do this four stories ago?" Uh maybe because there's an acid spitting monster raining hell down on you from above. He looks up. The entire top of the elevator starts to melt away. And if that's not enough, he looks down below at the completely destroyed elevator and there's the stalker monster rolly pulling up the [ __ ] shaft. So he's got monsters coming at him from both sides. This is the worst sort of gang bang you could be in. He takes a ride on the cable. He starts going up John Mlan style and then hops out. This whole end sequence feels like the anti- Dieard where we have John Mlan, your everyman cop who's a badass. He's got great oneliners. He's smoking a cigarette. He's got the the tank all beat up. He's got no shoes on. He's he's got glass in his feet. He's just a badass. Juapose that with our courier who does not have a way with words. He tries to have great lines but fails every time. He kind of lets out these pathetic whimpers every time he gets cornered. Oh gosh. He's just the exact opposite of what you want your hero to be. Yet, I love both of these types. and I would say a lot more true to form for most people in this situation. Anyway, he's done putting up with their [ __ ] He gets out of the elevator. He grabs the spit monster, shoves his head down, and has him barf all over the pursuing zombie ball, which drops them down again. He then kicks this [ __ ] out, saying, "THIS IS SPARTA." BOOM. KICKS THE spitter down the shaft and he can finally make his way up to level 28. The final horror sequence that I really dug felt like something out of uh the new Resident Evil Reququum, I think it's called, with Grace, I think that's the name. That game was awesome, regardless of my my memory of the game's name. He has to go through the maternity ward to get across that skyway. He looks inside this [ __ ] maternity ward and it is just absolute nightmare fuel. There are dead, bloody monster babies in all of these little bassinets. There are feet and hands sticking out of all the ceiling, bulging red bubbles that are all over the place. This is a nightmare. So, Brian's just slowly pushing through this. He grabs a mop and pushing things out of the way. Inevitably, he's going to push a little too hard on one of the bassinets. It bumps into another one and this giant bubble of blood puffs up and boom, splashes all over him. And what does it leave in its wake? Couple baby hands that for some reason have super long spiderlike arms which slam down. And a gross ass face with a bunch of eyeballs starts to peekaboo out before Brian says, "Yeah, we're done with this." Smacks him across the face and gets the hell out of there as all the zombie people start falling out of those blood sacks. He gets out onto the skyway which is completely decimated. So he has to, you know, side step across it. And this is where we will finally see the end of that damn stalker monster thing that's rolling up the side of the building again. Brian has one shot left, one opportunity left in his gun. So he's going to use it to not aim at the creature because that's a a lost cause. He's going to aim it at the handle of the broom that he wedged into the door to keep the zombies from running out. Now he wants them to run out because they can spill on top of that monster. And so this is what he does. He takes a shot knowing that he's not a good aim and snaps the broom handle. The zombies fall down as planned and they take down the stalker with them, splattering all over the ground. At which point the camera punches in on our hero who says, "Woohoo! I love video games, baby. And winks at the camera. He doesn't say it near as cringey as I did, but uh he does say I love video games. And I thought that was fine. I thought it was fun. It was cute. It was cheesy, but it was fine. I do need to kind of rewind the story for a second if you bear with me. I forgot to mention that he's been bitten on the arm because of his stupid decision to help that girl. So throughout the film, we're going to see that those teeth marks have infected the arm and they've made their way up to the chest and he is not in good shape by the time he makes it to that lab. In fact, once inside, he's got a [ __ ] claw hand that he's hiding from these interns. It looks like they are scrambling to get this cure synthesized. So, they're not really paying a ton of attention to him until it's too late. He gets up. He starts walking towards them. Clearly now the infection has taken over his brain and he's fighting hard to kind of like fend it off, but he's like, "Give me the give me the antidote. GIVE ME THE ANTIDOTE." And this leads to an epic awesome horror scene with a lot of violence and blood where his tendrils are flying out. He's grabbing the the young folks, putting them into his stomach, which has now doubled as a monster mouth. At one point, he smashes one of the desks up against a guy in a wall and it's just blood slammed all over the place. People are freaking out. One idiot throws a fire extinguisher that misss everything in the room. So, you're just getting awesome shots of people getting pulled away into the mist, arms flying off, blood shooting at the camera. It's a sweet sequence. And this entire time you're frustrated because you just want one of these idiots to stick that damn antidote into Brian's arm. The film ends with I think the ginger scientist grabbing the antidote, putting in his pocket, saving it for later, running out of the room trying to get to the elevator, but Monster Brian, who has like a giant eyeball now on the side of his head and he's got faces on him and of course the mouth stomach and the claw hand and he's he's just this huge disgusting mass. He smashes with the guy out the side of the window. They fall down like six flights. Land on the skyway. I guess technically it' be like four flights, but whatever. And this is where it's going to end. The scientist finally reaches up to put in that [ __ ] cure and then sits there hesitating like an idiot. His other arm gets ripped off. And finally, he drops the needle and he's of course put inside the stomach in the monster mash with the rest of them. Final shot of the film are the SWAT choppers flying up and we get the camera zooming in at our nice monster in all of his glory. Brian unfortunately did not make it out of this in one piece. He's now in several different pieces of people. And that's where we ended on this huge cliffhanger, if you want to call it one. It's a great horror film. It can end in a disturbing way. I love a good XFiles when they end on a on a scary note. Those are my favorite ones actually. When the hero doesn't necessarily win, and Brian certainly didn't. The virus got to him just like it got to everyone else. Now, he accomplished his goal. He He got it there, but unfortunately, he carried with him something far more dangerous himself. And holy crap, that's it. What an experience. I think I covered everything. My god, I feel like I just read the script verbatim. It was It was such a clean a powerful rereading of this film. I had a great time with this. Barely any issues with the thing outside of a couple maybe uh instances of uh decisions I wouldn't have made. Outside of that though, what what a ride this was. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I understand again the Resident Evil purists out there that maybe this isn't what they wanted. But my god, we've had so many attempts and they failed every time. Even when they did try to get it close with Raccoon City, it was a complete shitow. So this is the way forward for me.
