REACHER Season 4 Episode 3 Recap | IS THIS MAN CURSED! | Prime Video
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
In this recap of *Reacher* Season 4 Episode 3, titled "One Small Step," hosts Be Avery and Lamont discuss how the plot thickens as Jack Reacher uncovers a conspiracy far more complex than initially anticipated. The episode intensifies with new attacks forcing the team back to Philadelphia while deepening Reacher's bond with Laya. A major twist revealed during their conversation is that Anna, who jumped off a building at the end of the previous segment, was likely controlled by powerful forces rather than acting on her own volition; this tragedy suggests she and another individual were silenced because they possessed critical information stored on a missing flash drive. The hosts speculate heavily about the nature of these secrets, theorizing that the data involves high-level international crimes such as child trafficking or war crimes linked to General Putra and potentially running for president North Carolina Senator, making it an issue too dangerous for anyone involved in the conspiracy to let slip out.
The discussion also delves into character dynamics, particularly focusing on Reacher's violent methods and his growing romantic tension with Laya. While Lamont questions whether Reacher was overly aggressive when dragging a suspect down stairs, Be Avery defends him as exactly what is needed for this job, noting that he can switch between stoic violence and dry humor effortlessly. A significant portion of the episode revolves around trust issues within the group; both hosts express deep skepticism toward Jacob from Mayberry, believing his emotional outbursts regarding Anna's suicide are a performance to hide deeper knowledge about her brother or the conspiracy itself. Similarly, they remain wary of Detective Sean due to his apparent concern for his pension over justice and view Laya with suspicion despite her seductive nature saving Reacher during the bowling alley fight scene, fearing she might be a government "black widow" sent to infiltrate their team.
As the episode concludes, the hosts analyze the discovery of Anna's work badge in her abandoned vehicle, which indicates she held Level 8 clearance—a level that grants access to state secrets even some presidential cabinet members cannot see. This revelation confirms that the case has escalated from a standard crime into international espionage involving powerful foes who will stop at nothing to suppress the truth on the drive. The recap ends with both hosts agreeing that they can only fully trust Reacher, Mrs. Green (Tamara's ally), and Russell, the tech guy who was wrongfully fired for trying to blow the whistle before his company altered his expense reports and humiliated him. With two people having taken their own lives within just three episodes due to pressure from these unseen controllers, the hosts leave viewers eager to see what dastardly secrets are finally revealed on that flash drive in the upcoming episode, urging everyone to buckle up for a season filled with breadcrumbs leading toward a massive international crime ring exposure.

What is going on everybody? Welcome
back. It is me and Lamont. We are
talking Reacher. Season 4, episode 3
titled One Small Step. Reacher discovers
that the situation is more complex than
it seems. As his bond with Laya grows
closer, we're going to be talking about
that. Tamara, Jacob, and Plum stumble
upon a crucial clue when a new attack
forces them to return to Philadelphia.
Of course, we are talking spoilers,
spoilers, spoilers. Lamont, what did you
think about the episode, man? Is it was
it intense or did it suck? And you want
to cancel the show? No, I'm joking. How
did you feel?
>> Absolutely not. It's It's intense. Some
things we predicted on our last review
happened early. A lot of things are
happening early this season that I
didn't expect to happen so early. And um
I'm I'm really really enjoying it, man.
And it's like he got his own little gang
to help him do what he need to do. And
it just keeps taking these weird twists
that I didn't see coming. I didn't see a
twist coming. And I think we're going to
definitely talk about that twist.
>> Well, let's talk about it now. What is
this twist that you didn't see coming
that came all over the place?
>> So, yeah. Other other than him getting
in the panty draws and we didn't get to
see him come all over the place. the guy
he saw on the train
>> committed the S side at the very end of
the episode and it's kind of like for
real at this point Reacher is literally
the last person to have seen old boy
sister and we still got that missing
flash drive out there and this further
makes me feel like
the North Carolina senator's wife got
something to do with this. Shout out to
North Carolina. That's where I live at,
ladies and gentlemen. So, when they say
a North Carolina senator, you know, I
had my eyes on him. Oh, yeah. That wife
got something to do with this, my
brother. That wife.
>> Really? Really? That's the last thing I
thought, you know, to to be honest with
you. But Lamont, what is on the drive?
What is the secret? You got people
blowing their heads off. You got people
jumping off from rooftops not giving a
damn.
>> I mean, geez Louise, what what is it?
And did he have the drive himself? Will
it Will it come up? Who who knows? Who
knows? You know, you thinking that it's
the the the congressman's wife? I don't
think it is. Um but we're going to see.
And yeah, definitely. I did not think
that he was going to get the draws that
quick. We knew he was he was going to
get them, but you know, that was just a
little um too easy. But starting off the
beginning of the episode when they saw
when Reacher identified that that was K
Hill that was a part of the security
that was on the subway um that killed
himself. You know, they're trying to
regroup uh at Russell's uh rendevu um at
his lair uh his little kingdom and the
base is attacked.
What the hell is wrong with Reacher,
man? Why is he so violent? Um, I mean, I
don't know. Maybe I would act that same
way, too. If somebody was trying to kill
me, but my goodness gracious, we
supposed to be trying to leave these
people alive here, man. And the way he
was dragging old dude down the stairs
with his head hidden, boom, boom, boom.
I'm like, bro, you going to kill him? I
got a kick out of that because it was
funny seeing the rest of the crew look
at him like, "What's wrong with this mad
man?" But is Reacher uh too aggressive
or is he just what the doctor ordered?
>> No, he's just what the doctor ordered.
um he has a way of turning that switch
on in the right moments and then he can
turn it off even though he's like so
super monotone. You know, you can get a
kick out of the way he acts because it's
funny and he does things that are like
this dry humor funny that sometimes
ain't meant to be funny, but they're
funny because it comes out of the stoic
manner of who he is. And I think that,
you know, he didn't need to bust that
guy head to the white meat dragging it
across the steps cuz you didn't need to
get that information, man. You should
have saved that for if he wouldn't
giving up the information. Okay. But I
like Reacher's Method. He is the man for
this job. And just shout out to Allan
Richardson. Um, you know, you know, I've
got a special relationship for him and
that's my guy. He's doing a great job
this season. I hope they have more
reacher seasons.
>> Yes, I I do too. And uh shout out to
Lamont. I'm going to make him big right
now. I want y'all to look behind
Lamont's head right now. You see a
picture of him flexing,
popping them shoulders, popping that
chest. I mean, the guy works out. Okay.
It's blatantly obvious. Okay. So, I just
had to point that out real quick first.
So, Lamont, we've established that you
work out. I'm assuming that you can do a
number of push-ups in a row, too. Is
this correct, sir?
>> Okay. Can you do a f can you do
fingertip push-ups as well where you
strengthen your extremities, you
strengthen your fingers, your your tips
and all that? Are you able to do that?
>> I'm able to do that.
>> Okay. Okay. Are you able to do the
amount of fingertip push-ups that
Reacher did in this episode to get those
fingers so strong to where he's able to
scale the sides of walls outside the
building going from floor to floor? Sir,
do you know what I'm talking about? Do
you know how hard it is to do that? Do
you not remember the scene at the very
beginning when they was there at
Brussels?
>> Or are you shaking your head because it
it was amazing or you don't remember?
>> No, I completely remember. But I'm just
thinking to myself, man, the wrist
strength you've got to have for that.
The finger dexterity you've got to have
for that. Dude, that I mean that was
like, dude, you think you Super Mario
Brothers or you Don or you Yoshi or
somebody jumping out of windows hanging
by your tongue? It was like, bro.
>> And I was for a minute there, B Avery.
>> I thought he was going to jump out and
break his leg cuz you remember he was
like,
>> "Your signal is going to be when you
hear somebody screaming." So I thought
he was about to do some mess where he
was going to jump out the jump out the
window, hit the ground, scream, and that
was going to be the signal. I had no
idea
>> they was going to have him doing the
frog man all outside these windows. And
um you know like you don't get a
character and an actor like him who's
muscled up the way he is without here
and there showing his strength. And
that's what this was display of his
strength.
>> Yeah, man. That's that's freaking
amazing. Uh right there. Uh I mean I've
been able to do fingertip push-ups, you
know, but here I am talking about back
in my day 20 years ago, you know, when I
was in my prime. I don't want to sound
like that guy. even though I'm sounding
like that guy. But no, anyway, that that
was amazing, man. When I when I saw
that, I was very very impressed. Uh so,
shout out to Reacher. Shout out to Allan
Richardson Richardson for for um being
able to pull off such physical feats. Um
is Jacob though tripping? Uh Reacher is
about to kick him out the group, saying
that he was emotional and you know, he's
a cop from Mayberry. Uh Tamara did bring
up a good point like, "Wait a minute,
man. Don't be getting mad at his crash
out. Did you just have a sibling or
someone close to you commit suicide
because they was part of some government
conspiracy? Richard was like, "Yes, I
got a laugh out of that." But does Tammy
have a point or does Richard have a
point? Does Does Jacob still need to be
in the group or he need to go sit down
somewhere?
>> I think they both have a point, but I
still don't trust Jacob, man. There's
something really he's not telling. I
don't trust him. I don't tr man he's
hiding something. Look
the people who are the insiders to
whatever's going on. We have already met
them be Avery. Three episodes in. We
have seen their faces. We just don't
know which one it is. And I don't trust
Jacob. I think he's not telling us
everything. I think he knows more about
the nephew than what he's leading on.
And I think that some of this Mayberry
behavior is an act. Okay. I don't
believe that he's that Clark Kenny. You
know what I mean? I think that there's
more going on to him than meets the eye
and he's playing a role. So, I agree
with both of them, but I'm more on the
reacher side. Let his butt go. But he's
not going to go because he wants to stay
close to this thing. He wants to keep
something close to his vest. We just got
to figure out what it is. I don't trust
him.
>> Okay. Okay. Do y'all trust him? Let us
know in the uh comment section below. Um
but we may have somebody that we can
trust. It seems like Tamara does have an
ally uh in her black friend that she met
at the junkyard while she was trying to
switch cars uh and switch plates. You
know, that's a nice little resource to
have, man. If the government is chasing
you and you have a junkyard you can go
to and just swip switch out cars. I'm
just joking, guys. It's like, you know,
you have the government chasing you
every day. If you do, you need to get
your life together because it's just um
it's it's not it's not that serious.
>> Be Avery. Welcome to being a black
person in America. The government damn
near is almost chasing you every day. Or
welcome to legal immigrants being chased
and in some cases just regular citizens
being chased by our government.
>> Yeah, this is true. This is true. You're
talking about how you don't trust Jacob.
I don't trust Shawn more than Jacob.
Sean the the the detective in the
office, he is always giving Tamron and
the rest of the gang a hard time when
they're trying to investigate the case.
You know, she made a good point like,
"Wait a minute.
>> The girl was sliced, not dead in our
jurisdiction in the city. She was sliced
up. This is on purpose." Okay, the this
is some sinister type stuff right here.
Very conniving. And you just want me to
keep it moving and you you worried you
more worried about my pension than I am.
Okay. Worried about your retirement. I
don't trust him. I'm on I'm on team
don't trust Sean now. You you you want
to add more on to that or you just like
I'm telling you B. I'm telling you.
You asked me yesterday. You asked me to
rank the people who I don't trust the
most. He's number one on my list. I do
not trust that bum and be Avery. Why do
he look like he been beat up? Like, have
we seen him get into a fight?
>> Like, you're right.
>> So, like, bro, what what are you really
doing that we don't know? He got a black
eye under his right eye. And I told you
yesterday, he is suspect number one that
I don't trust. Then comes the senator's
wife. And then would come the brother,
um, Mrs. Merrick's brother,
>> Jacob.
>> And so, Jacob. Yeah, Jacob. That's my
list of top three. I don't trust none of
them, man. That's my list.
>> Yeah. Uh Mr. Tasty Cakes over here. Uh
we're gonna see. Are we going to get a
reveal of Tamara's secret that he tried
to spill out? Cuz he was like, you know,
did you do you remember what happened
when you get obsessed with the cake? I
mean, I said with a cake. When you get
obsessed with a uh with a case. And she
darted out like, "Okay, no. I'm going to
go get me some tasty cakes." And then
the scene switched over. Is this is this
going to be a big revelation at some
point in time or or or no? No big deal
at all.
>> It has to be cuz they done mentioned it
three times in three episodes. So,
whatever it is, for whatever the reason,
she has the current detective job that
she's doing. It will be revealed and
it's probably going to be a moment where
it might make her cry. It's going to be
some real deep dive emotional moment.
It's going to be something where she's
going to have to make a hardcore
decision. and it will definitely be
revealed because whatever it is, it's a
character builder for her and we're
gonna find out.
>> Y'all let us know what y'all think. Is
that secret going to come out? Let us
know. Let us know. Let us know. Now,
Lamont, man, tell me what happened at
the bowling alley, man. Reacher got Lyla
on the phone like, "Hey, I want to meet
somewhere where people inside where they
can't just see us driving by. It don't
need to be too quiet, but it needs to be
busy and and enough that we can have a
discussion. And she go he goes to the
bowling alley and he calls her out. What
are your thoughts with this this
confrontation here at the bowling alley?
He got a real thing for this woman.
That's all. Like out of all the seasons
we've been watching him deal with women
and panty draws, he's really attracted
to this girl for some reason. And I
think that that was basically him
saying, "Look, baby, I like you, but you
can't be lying to me." Okay? Do I need
to pull out the Teddy Pendergrass
records or something? Don't lie to me.
And she lied to him, but she
I want to say maybe she came clean. I
still don't fully trust her. And I
definitely don't trust that mama who's
scarred up and don't like to talk. I
don't trust her either. Um, but
>> we find out that she not really her
mama.
Right. Right. Exactly. Exactly. Um
Reacher has an affinity for this woman
and B Avery. Would it not be weird if
Laya the reporter is somehow connected
to Jacob's and Jacob's sister? Would it
not be weird if Jacob and Laya are
brothers and sisters or some some kind
of connection?
>> Yeah. Yeah, that would that would be
weird. That would be weird. I wouldn't
be surprised. I would not be surprised.
But also, man, more information. Um, he
called her a liar, saying that, you
know, that John Stamos or whatever his
name is, the congressman, is not your
daddy. But she was like, but you know, I
I didn't tell you the whole truth. Of
course. Um he was over this thing called
Delta Force and Delta Force had linked
up with this General Putra and they did
you know war crimes, war against
humanity and he was over it and that
information is on the drive and he
cannot be president. Now is this the
whole truth right here or she still
leaving out information
about General Putin?
>> She's leaving she's leaving out
information. To me, the more we hear
about this, the more it starts to sound
like um a Trump Putin
sex trafficking ring type situation
going on. and whatever is on them
drives. I think it's got to be some
information about highlevel
individuals, including Senator North
Carolina running for president and him
being either at the epicenter of some
international crime. This ain't just a
United States crime. This is something
that has big implications that pretty
much anybody whether no matter how you
vote would want to see you thrown off
the boat. And um that Laya knows more
than what she's telling us 100%.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's this is true.
This is facts. This is facts. Um I've
never used a bowling ball as a weapon
before. Uh, but I think if one is, you
know, at my disposal, I think I'll use
it the way I saw Reacher use it in this
episode here. Another great fight right
here, man. Um, I really did enjoy it.
Another guy, little guy threw out a
kick. Well, everybody's little guy. Um,
according to Reacher, uh, but, you know,
he threw out a kick. You know, his hand
got thrown in some grease. Uh, they
going outside and fighting and rolling
around and it's it's quite nice. Um, I
enjoyed it. Uh, but Laya comes and saves
the day. She comes and saves the day.
They go, you know, she's like, "Hey."
Oh, no. No. What did we just say? Um, I
thought I told you to get out of here.
Well, I sent the security back and with
Amisha and they're gone. I wanted to
come save you. No, I wanted to smash
your guts and I'm going to pretend like
I want to, you know, uh, mind your
wounds. Bro, it was so obvious that she
wanted to sleep with this man. The
second that she walked through the door.
I was like, god dang. Like,
you know what I'm saying? Like,
>> I mean, you know, men do like a
challenge, but goodness gracious. Go
ahead.
>> Now, we don't we don't want to be
challenged all the time, but did you see
the seductive skeletor way she was
walking to him in the bathroom, she had
a little strut
>> when he took them when he took his shirt
off and she could see the muscles, her
ass start strutting to the bathroom like
Donald Duck. She went in there looking
at him and was fixing his cuts and his
wounds and he looked like he was a
little mesmerized by this. Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> And that's why I I don't trust her. I
still don't trust a man. And a fine
woman like that
>> is what some government send out as they
black widows as me and you know for
>> and
I I just don't know man. And he he's
smitten for this woman. Okay. Yeah. like
he been smitten for her since the first
time he's seen her.
>> So,
I'm sorry, Be Avery. There's not a lot
of people I can trust this season.
>> Mrs. Green, I trust her.
I actually trust our tech guy that is
trying to get the pullet surprise.
That's it.
>> Yeah,
>> that's it.
>> Wait, wait. What about you, Tamara, the
black chick? Do you trust her?
>> Yeah, her her last name is Green. That's
why I said my fault. My bad. My bad. My
bad. My bad. Y'all let us know who y'all
trust and would you have fallen victim
to Llaya seduction as Richard did? Most
of you would have. And that's okay. I'm
not judging you. I'm not judging you.
What do you think is going to come up of
this work badge that they found in um in
um Anna's abandoned vehicle
with the cut up seats and stuff,
>> man?
Bro,
Anna was in Anna was in her head
>> with a level eight clearance by the way.
You know,
>> that's what I'm saying. She was in over
her head, man. Like
level A, you get to see stuff that you
get to see some stuff that some of the
president's cabinet don't get to see. M
>> so whatever she's privileged to be Avery
I'm telling you this is not just some
standard American crime issue this is
like
international espionage international
crime ring type of stuff and there are
some powerful foes that do not want this
information to get out there for all we
know they haven't announced it yet. It
could be the opponent
um running for president to um the North
Carolina senator. You know, he could
have something to do with, you know,
this is this is a good season, man. It's
they haven't
>> they they've given us breadcrumbs, but
they haven't given us big breadcrumbs.
So, it's been good to me.
>> Right on. Now, Russell, the tech guy, uh
he is somebody that you do trust,
correct? I trust him and I'm gonna be so
mad if he let me down.
>> Hopefully hopefully he doesn't Yeah.
Hopefully he does not uh let us down. He
does not let us down. Um is he going to
receive justice? Because Jacob asked him
what is his deal? Why don't he just walk
away? He was like, "No, I got schooled
by my old company. I tried to, you know,
blow the whistle and they fired me and
humiliated me and altered my expense
reports. Made it seem like I was
stealing. You know, my dad was
questioning me. I'm in there, man. I'm
10 toes down. I'm not quitting. Uh,
what's gonna become of that, if
anything, is he gonna get some justice
or is it is it gonna blow up in his
face?
>> Again,
>> it's hard for me to It's hard for me to
predict with him. But if you down with
team Reacher, you tend to always come
out on top. So, I would like to think
that he's probably going to be he's
going to be fully exonerated. He's
probably going to start his own
publication. He doesn't need to go back
and work for the man. He is the man now,
basically. And maybe he can take down
some of those people that was corrupt,
that was in bed with the government,
which is why he lost his job in the
first place. I would love to see him get
that kind of justice.
>> Me too. Me too. Me too. Justice for
Russell. Justice for Russell. Now I have
this uh so we got Russell
uh Jacob and Tamara and they go off and
pull up to some government facility and
they have a note that says 23
what does this say? Industrial way
building 28
uh Stanton
I think this says J12.
And they pull up to this building here
and I don't know what the objective is.
The building, you know, Anna was there.
It says US government property and
that's the last that we see of them um
in this episode before a guy goes Peter
Pan. Um you have any details on that or
we just going to have to wait till next
week?
>> I think we're just going to have to
wait, man. They they kept that one
pretty close to the vest. Um, you solve
that. You might be solving pretty much
the majority of this case. So, I think
we're just going to be stuck waiting.
Audience, buckle down. Put your seat
belt on because it's worth the wait.
>> Got you. Got you. Now, you know, Lamont,
you still can't trust the congressman's
wife. Man, when Reacher showed up, he
off she offered him some poached eggs
that she ain't never touched. You know,
a woman offering you food. Come on. You
got to trust women offering you food,
right? And look at her reaction when old
dude jumped off. She was surprised or
she just acting. Lamont man. Again, I
asked you at the beginning of this
recap. What is on the drive? What made
this man jump to his death? That is
crazy, bro. Like
>> two people.
>> Two people.
>> What's going on, man? Why Why did he do
that?
>> The secrets The secrets always come out.
You know, you try to hide or it's going
to come out. I mean, what's going on?
Somebody's controlling him, man.
Somebody was controlling Anna. And
whatever is on this drive, these people
do not want it to get out. And they, you
know, they have got
a hold on these people's families and a
hold on these people's
life. Basically, whatever's on this
drive behavior, it's going to be it's it
first of all, from a storytelling
perspective, it has to be some of the
most dastardly we've ever heard. It
has to be
>> for two people within three episodes to
kill themselves.
>> Yeah.
>> It has got to be low down, grimy.
>> It's got to be some international child
trafficking. It's got to be some I
killed your sister, don't tell nobody.
Um to sacrifice for a greater good. that
was a crime in the first place. It's got
to be on that kind of level for two
people to do this. Two people who we
didn't get a chance to understand their
full stories. They just said life ain't
worth it. So, I'm interested to know
what's on this drive. It better be
something.
>> Yeah. It has to be that they are
trafficking aliens and sexual drug
technology
with I don't know just something crazy
bizarre. What is on the drive? What is
on the drive? Get the draws. What's up?
>> Do you think can we even trust Anna's
son, the nephew? I don't trust him.
>> I We ain't even met him yet, but I think
we can. I think I think we I'm going to
give him the I'mma give him the benefit
of the doubt because uh we haven't met
him yet. So, um you know.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Well, Lamman, those your
final thoughts, sir, or you have any
more to add?
My final thought, don't trust anybody
over here except for Reacher and Mrs.
Green and my boy trying to get the
pullet surprise. That's it.
>> Right on. Right on. Right on. Well,
ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
that is going to wrap it up for me and
Lamont's recap review for Reacher season
