Video summary

The Baltimore Ravens delivered a dominant performance in their first preseason game under new head coach Jesse Minter, defeating the Eagles with a convincing 24-7 score that highlighted significant improvements across the team. One of the most striking aspects of the victory was the coaching staff's ability to set high expectations immediately; notably, Jesse Minter personally called defensive plays from the sideline, a level of involvement previously unseen with former coach Harbaugh. This new era was further defined by the Ravens' discipline on the field, as they committed only three penalties compared to the Eagles' ten, showcasing a clean game that reflected the staff's offseason work and readiness for the regular season. Offensively, the team utilized a versatile quarterback rotation to test different scenarios, with Tyler Huntley serving as a reliable game manager who protected the ball while undrafted rookie Joe Fiano emerged as a standout performer. Fiano completed 22 of 28 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown without taking a single sack, proving that he could compete at an NFL level despite his lack of draft pedigree. The running game also provided excitement, particularly from rookie Adam Randall, who overcame early physical limitations to power through tackles and score a touchdown, while other talented backs like Elijah Taylor and McMillan put on good film even if they did not make the final roster. The defensive unit was equally impressive, generating pressure and making crucial stops that kept the game comfortably out of reach for most of the contest. Key contributors included linebacker Zion Young, whose sheer size and aggression towered over opponents, and Dom Duca, who flew around the field to make plays everywhere. Special teams coach Anthony Weaver also got his chance to call plays, while veteran Chris Moore returned kicks effectively, reigniting his old role with the franchise. Although kicker Tyler Luep missed a long attempt early on, he redeemed himself later in the game, and the overall performance suggested that all three phases of the team were capable of supporting one another when mistakes occurred. Overall, this preseason opener served as a successful introduction to the new Baltimore Ravens under Jesse Minter's leadership, blending veteran stability with promising rookie talent. The team demonstrated that they could execute a complete game plan, from managing the clock and protecting the quarterback to dominating the defensive line and special teams units. While there were minor growing pains, such as a fumble by Elijah Sarat and some early struggles in run defense, the core message was clear: the Ravens are ready for the challenges of the regular season. With a fresh start and high energy, the organization appears poised to build on this momentum as they prepare to face their next opponents.

I know it was just preseason, but this first game of the Jesse Mentor era had a lot of things that we liked and had a whole lot of things that we loved. So, let's get straight into it. I'm here to share my postgame thoughts. This is cool. This the first time we get to say that about Jesse Mentor, but I'm here to share my postgame thoughts from the game that we watched between the Ravens and the Eagles WHERE BALTIMORE WON DOMINATED LITERALLY dominated 24-7. And let's get into coaching. Jesse Mentor on a sideline with a play sheet consistently. Now, it's crazy. And I know Harball was Harball, Jesse Mentor, Jesse Mentor. And he let us know that, hey, I'm going to be calling the defensive plays. But just to see that consistently was crazy because we know with Harball whenever he had a play sheet, we would BE LIKE, WHOA, WHOA, WHAT'S HARBALL DOING WITH A PLAY SHEET? It was crazy. But with Jesse Mentor, he set that expectation from the jump. Now looking at some of the crazy num crazy numbers first downs Ravens had 31. Guess how many the Eagles had? Six. That's ins. And I know it's preseason but still 31 first downs to six total yards. Ravens had 440 and the Eagles had 159. And for a long time, even in the fourth quarter, they had under 100 yards for for the longest throughout the game. Again, it's just pre but still they were going crazy with it. And I think the one that caught most people's attention, penalties. Penalties. Because the Eagles had 10 penalties for 96 yards, but the Ravens had three for 25. We can say that it's just preeason, and it is, but this is a time to get all the bad stuff out. This is a time to have all the mistakes, to have all the hiccups, to do all the mess ups. And they had three penalties in that game. That is unheard of for a Baltimore Ravens team, especially recently. We are so used to being heavily penalized, but last night it just it didn't go like that. So overall, they were playing some really clean football. So all the stuff that we've been hearing about uh in the offseason and training camp uh from Jesse Mentor and this coaching staff, everything that we've been hearing about them, we got to see it come to fruition in last night's game. Let's start off with the offense, man. Tyler Huntley, he got us started in this game. And Tyler Huntley just he showed us who Tyler Huntley is and who he's been. Tyler Huntley very very careful with the ball. He's not gonna turn the ball over, but he's not going to light up the scoreboard either. He's not really uh pushing the ball downfield like that. And even though it was preseason, that's normally how Tyler Huntley does in the regular season. He takes care of the ball and he just he he's a game manager and that's cool. It's all they needed him to be. And again, they don't need him to do anything crazy. So that was fine. BUT JOE FIANO, JOE FIANO, [screaming] OH MAN, that man, like going into the game, I was thinking, "All right, Faniano, what you got to show us?" You obviously in the lead for that QB3 spot right now. They just signed Austin Reed a couple days ago. I didn't know how much I expected him to play. Not much, if at all. BUT JOE FIANO, THAT MAN, WHOA, I I loved loved loved loved what we saw from him. He looked comfortable. He looked poised. He was taking his shots. He was running, scrambling around. He He just looked really, really good. And I know he did have that interception in the end zone, in the back of the end zone. And a great play by I think it was Ringo, I believe. But Joe Feniano was amazing. And this is a undrafted rookie free agent. He did not look like an undrafted rookie free agent to me. Looking at his numbers, Joe Feniano was 22 for 28 for 224 yards. Very first NFL game, undrafted rookie free agent. 22 for 20 for 28, 224 yards, one touchdown. Who was that touchdown too? We going to get into that in a little bit. Uh, and then one interception. How many sacks did he take? Zero. Not a single one. He was pushing that ball down field. And he was giving so many different people opportunities to shine. He He looked great to me. He He really really did. So, shout out to uh Feniano. And sticking with the quarterbacks, Austin Reed. Austin Reed, he just went two for two for 14 yards, but he obviously had that that nice rushing touchdown where Austin Reed said, "Oh, anybody here? Anybody open? Ah, let me just take off and he got it. He saw his lane and he hit it and got to the end zone." So, that was a beautiful thing to see. And he he was throwing some strikes, too. Again, he ain't get too many opportunities to throw, but when he threw, that thing was on the money. So, again, this guy just got signed a couple of days ago. So, he only had a couple days of practice, but he looked good in the limited amount of time that he got to. Um, sticking with the running game, Adam Randall, rookie, Steve Bashad's rookie. Uh, he he was played throughout this entire game and he started this game and I think it was on the first drive. It was early in the game. He had a running play and then he came up and I saw his arm kind of dangling a little bit. I said, "Oh man, please don't." No. we know he had injury problems in college, but I'm like, man, this is not good for him. And I was thinking he might have had a shoulder sting or something like that. And I'm like, "Oh, I really hope he's not out for the game." But then a drive, maybe two drives later, he was right back out there. Um, and he did his thing. On his touchdown run, I saw somebody say, "I'm so glad we got to finally see his power because on his touchdown run, uh, he could have got tackled and got stopped. He broke off with them. Then he could have got tackled again, got stopped by somebody else. He broke off of them and then powered his way to the end zone. But he was somebody that initially, in my opinion, he started off a little bit shaky, but then as the game went on, he kept getting more more opportunities. He looked better and better and he was just playing more smoother and smoother. Somebody else who we've been hearing about in training camp, a little bit here and there, um, is Elijah Tal Toiver. He looked good last night, too. And it's tough because he's he's not going to make the roster. Um, and I only say that because Dererick Henry, Justice Hill, uh, Prince Ali, Rashine Ali, and Adam Randall. So, that's four running back. They're not going to keep five running backs. So, Tal Taliviver, he's putting on good fil. That's a great start. Putting on good film for another team or for perhaps another practice squad or maybe even Ravens practice squad, but he he looked nice last night and he was breaking off some nice runs, too. Uh, and then McMillan as well. He was another one, another running back that looked good. Again, when you look at the numbers, I mean, their numbers, Taliva averaged 4.2 yards a carry. McMillan averaged 4.4 yards a carry. Um, so that their numbers weren't the craziest, but when you look at the game, like, oh, okay, he looking good. So, numbers, they ain't tell the whole story. Now, when we talk about receiving though, them numbers, oh, they say something. They sure do. Uh, our leading receiver last night with the most catches and yards ended up being Elijah Serret. And he ain't even start the game out there. He wasn't even out there early on initially, but once he got going and kept getting his opportunities, Elijah Sarat was looking good. He really, really was. Um, he caught I think everything thrown his way. Let me see. Oh. Oh, never mind. It said he had seven targets but six catches. I don't remember what the the target that he got that wasn't complete. I don't remember what it was, but yeah, Elijah Serat, he did his thing. And they tried him at punt return, too. I wasn't the biggest fan of them putting him at punt return, but they got to try some stuff out cuz again, that's Leonte West's spot, but I guess they were like, "Hey, Wester, we know who you are. Let's give Elijah Sarat a chance." [snorts] Um, but he his only mistake obviously came from that fumble. Elijah Sarat, he he's just guilty of hanging around with Zay Flowers. That's it. They in the same wide receiver room and he was getting shifty. He was making people miss. He said, "OH YEAH, LET'S GO B." AND THEN THAT BALL CAME OUT AND WAS LIKE, "Oh man." But that was a uh big mistake right there. And he he was just trying to make a play, trying to extend the play, but he ain't hold on to the ball. And when you're moving, it's hard to like hold on to the ball tight and still be shifty like that cuz you know, if you getting loose, yeah, the ball going to be out. But yeah, it happens. So rookie mistake. And you see he said he ain't fumbled in a long time. Um but I'm sure he said it ain't going to happen again. So we'll trust you Mr. Sarat. You you giving a pass. But he them hands was real and everything that we heard about him. Mr. Waffle House. Everything we heard about him was real. Contested catch king man. I there were not many times where he was open like a lot of catches that he made. Defender all over defender right there. But that ball still ended up in Elijah Serat's hands. So, he looked nice. Now, um Elijah Serat, uh he's been we haven't been hearing a lot of hype around him, but he still showed out. But somebody who we had been hearing and have been hearing all the hype in the world about was Jacobe Lane. And Jacobe Lane, when he got his first catch, he did a little celebration, but it it was a real calm celebration. I was like, "Okay, he must be saving it for regular season." Then he got another catch and I was like, "Oh, okay." Yeah, he he's still just chilling and whatnot. But then he got that touchdown catch where he caught the ball and the the two defenders were right there and he had to plow through and reach over uh the end zone and he he got it. And then that's when he started going crazy with the celebration. I like I cannot wait to see that in the regular season. But he looked apart. He looked apart. But it just and this it this was important in my opinion for him, for the Ravens, and for all of us too because when they didn't have pads on, they were just practicing in Jersey. We heard, "Oh, Jacobe Lane, he's looking good." And then it's like, "All right, put some pads on." Then they put the pads on and they're like, "Oh, Jacobe Lane, he's still looking good." It's like, "Oh, okay. Well, maybe he going against backups. He's a third round draft pick. He's a rookie. [snorts] He probably ain't running with the ones like that." Then with the pads on against the starting quarterbacks, Nate Wiggins, Marlon Humphrey, TJ T, everybody, they said he's still looking good. So it's like, oh this guy. Okay, let's see him in a game against somebody who not wearing a Ravens jersey. And then there we go. Jacobe Lane was looking good. So shout out to him. Now, another rookie who looked really good last night. And I know Mark Andrews probably like, "Look, it's preeason. I know I'm the vet, but hey, JESSE, LET ME SUIT UP NEXT WEEK CUZ THAT BOY HIMNER, HE LOOKING TOO GOOD. He was looking nice, man. Hipner, he caught uh five catches for 61 yards. His longest was a Now, this was where Tyler Huntley did push the ball downfield a little bit, which I appreciated. It was such a beautiful pass from Tyler Huntley to Hypno. I think it was on the first draft. Um, but he floated it right over the defender. They put it in a perfect spot where and that allowed Hibner to run after the catch. He didn't have to stop his stride. So, perfect pass from Tyler Huntley. Beautiful catch from Hibner. It was just such a beautiful thing. And then just to watch him make catch after catch after catch after catch after catch. Mark Andrews boy. Oh boy. Hey, look. I know it's preseason, but hey. Hey, [laughter] shout out to him. He looked good. He looked good. And this was important too because everything we had heard about the tight ends this off seasonason. Well, we ain't really heard nothing about the Titans this off seasonason. It's been a lack of explosiveness, a lack of big plays. Just they've been talking, these reporters been talking like there's been a lack there. Um but Hypn said, "Hey, forget what you heard. I'm here." And he he he showed out last night. Um TZ Walker, he had three catches for 31 yards. This is normal for TZ Walker, though. uh in the preseason. It's normal to see him get involved. Uh he was doing his thing on special teams as well. I am not the biggest fan of TZ Walker being on special teams, but it's like it's tough because it's a numbers game because you you're going to have what, five, six receivers active on game day. Not all of them are going to be starters obviously. Uh so you do need different people to play special teams. Um so it's it's tough, man. It's it's very very tricky, but it's the numbers game. Uh but TZ Walker, he he looked himself, he looked good, too. Gillery, Xavier Gillery, he had a really really nice tough catch uh in this game. I don't remember what his other catch was, but I know one of them was really really tough. So, shout out to him. Uh Dayton Wade, he had three catches for 24 yards. So, that was nice. And he even got involved on the end of round, but the their defense was all over that. Um but shout out to Dayton Wade, man. Uh we know especially for those two Xavier Gilly and Dayton Wade it's not likely that they make the roster simply because the Ravens they have so many receivers and and they added Chris Moore too another veteran so that would make it even harder. Um but they it's important that they put on good film and they and Way has been with this team I want to say the past two years and I think this would be the third I believe. Um but yeah they've been around for a while. They keep keeping around on their practice squad and they obviously love day and way. They got a whole lot of love for day and weight. So, it's important that he continue to give them more reasons uh to give him love. Um offensive line with the offensive line, uh they they were solid. Wasn't the best. Um I know Tyler Hunley, he got sacked two times. Um Joe Feniano, none, so shout out to Joe Faniano. offensive line like specifically with Venger Yawan. There was one play where well I'm sure we've all seen the highlights of it where Venger Yawan he end up not uh having somebody to block. I'm not sure what happened to his guy. I don't remember. But instead of just standing around chilling looking like oh yeah, he reminded everybody why he's a first round draft pick and somebody who he was here to help replace and fix the errors of. So instead of just standing around doing nothing, he went and found somebody and knocked them down. Knocked them down. I said, "Okay, yeah, [laughter] you are the chosen one, my friend." And I'm so glad that we picked you, Wenger Yani. So shout out to him. So the offense overall in that game, um, they they started off a little little bit slow, but they they ended up being fun. It was fun to see fun to see the different quarterbacks doing their thing and again just giving different people opportunities and e everybody getting a piece of the pie. Ravens defense man they wasn't giving up nothing. They were being very very stingy. Even with it being pres they were being very very stingy and I love that. And even the game the score was 24-0. So obviously our defense is doing something right. Uh but then at the very end when the Eagles scored, Jesse Men, he didn't look the happiest. He and to be up by 24 points and the opponent literally has nothing. But he was still upset that the they they score even in a preseason game. Oh yeah, we got one, man. [laughter] We got one, baby. Um this defense, there was the pressure. They didn't get too many sacks with Kmart, Kon Martin, Florida Raven, by the way. Brower Raven by the way. But he end up coming up with the sack and he he just keeps making play. That's all he does, man. He just keeps making plays over and over and over. That's it. He's somebody else that we've been hearing about all offseason long. All through the training camp, we keep hearing about him and then in the G does it again. So, it's going to be you. I don't think they're going to keep him off the roster. I think he makes the roster. it is gonna be really really tough for them to not have him on this Ravens roster and he I mean he made the roster last year so that helps too but man that's yeah but shout out to him. Um Jesse Mentor, one thing that I noticed about our quarterbacks and again it's preseason so a lot of stuff is vanilla but our quarterbacks were not playing so far off of the receivers. They were not giving them all this cushion. They were on them. Even in the catches that the Eagles make, our quarterbacks were right there on them. They were flying to the ball. Um, Robert Logam, he had a nice hit tackle on I don't remember who Eagles offensive player was. Um, but the way that the team tackled, they tackled really well. There were now there I will say in the beginning of the game, um, the run defense was not looking very good. Uh they were giving up lanes, stuff was open, but then it it came out the refs be throw that red flag holding offense. Oh, okay. Well, that clears up. That's why the running back got so loose like that. So, shout out to them. Um Adisa Isaac. Oh, great play by him. We know it didn't count, but the film is still there. The tape is still there. The effort is still there despite it counting or not. Adisa Isaac with a heads up play, right place, right time, great awareness, great reaction, and he's somebody that needs stuff like that. He needs it. I think that was a big confidence booster for him because with Ada Isaac, we know he's been dealing with injuries. He hasn't been on the field too much in the regular season. So, that was huge for him. He almost got a sack, too. Uh, but the Eagles quarterback just outran him and took a nice little angle. But that play that he made where I think the Eagles quarterback, he passed it to whether it was a running back, a tight end or somebody and they tried to catch the ball, it kind of hit the ground. If it if they would have maintained control of the ball, even when it hit the ground, it would have been a catch. But since they didn't maintain control, it wasn't a catch. It was incomplete. But then the ball went up in the air. D Isaac ended up catching it, took it back for what would have been it would have been a pick six. Yeah, it wouldn't be a fumble cuz he never caught it. But that was just amazing play from Adisa Isaac. Like I said, he he needs that. Zion Young, that man. That man is about to go crazy, man. I really He Man, he just he is just tower. Like this man where I'm sitting at this this is all the reg the regular players. This is all where the regular players sit with Zion Young. This is how he towers literally over everybody. Everybody like the the regular player like, "Hey, what? Where's Zion? Where's Zion Young at? We don't see him. Oh, I'm over here. I'm right here. That man is a giant, man. He really is. And he I I can't wait to see him like running with the ones. Like, I can't wait to see him with Trey Hendrickson out there, with Ni Mabik, with with Kus Campbell, with Travis Jones, with with Mike. I cannot wait to see him out there with our starting defense. Man, I I I really think he's going to be a lot of fun and I I just think he's going to be reckless. Now, I do let you know from jump, I do expect to see some 15 yard penalties from him. I I I think I I do expect to see some the late hits, some rough in the passes cuz that boy he seem like he just he just ready for war, man. Like straight up, man. So, but yeah, he [laughter] I'm excited to see him, man. It is it's fun, man. It is It's going to be fun. Um, but yeah, as far as other guys specifically, uh, oh, 42, Duca. I was like, I I didn't know who Duca was. Uh, and his name Dominic Duca. So, Dom Duca, number 42, linebacker. He from jump from the very beginning. That man was flying around. Now, we obviously got a log jam at linebacker now, especially Teddy Buchanan. He's back, too. So, we got Roan, we got Trenton Simpson, we got Teddy Buchanan, we got Jay Higgins. Um, with Luca, I feel like I'm missing somebody. But with the Luca, he he was looking good, man. That man was flying around hitting everything. He was everywhere. So, it was nice to see that. Um, this Ravens team, they were generating some pressures, which was nice to see cuz we, especially these past two years, we haven't been too used to that, but they were generating pressures from different places. And again, this was vanilla. This was basic stuff. So, it wasn't nothing crazy. So, we just imagining when it does get crazy, when it does get real, then this defense can be even better. But for the first night, the fresh start, the new era, this defense was a beautiful thing from Jesse Mina. Special teams. Oo, this is the one. Let's start off with the kick return first cuz Chris Moore he got a kick return and they they brought that old thing back. He used to be a kick returner for the Ravens when he was here before. Uh and he got 29 yards. So that's pretty good. And Leonte West he got one for 23 yards at kick return. But then at punt return that was mostly Leonte Wester. He had three returns for 36 yards. The longest one he got was 19. And of course Leonte Wester super super shifty. And you just need that blocking. That blocking got to be right. And yeah he he he going to get some more man. Um Elijah Sat, they they tried him out a couple times and they tried Dton Wade as well. Now field goals. Here we go. Tyler Loop, that first field goal. Uh I think it was a 52 yard field goal, but it went wide right. It went wide right. And a lot of people were just I just looking at the comment section during the live stream, a lot of people like, "Oh man, Luke got to go. We need to cut Luke. We need to bring in another kicker." But this is like got to give him a chance. Steven Shotty again had to remind people last night been reminding people all offseason Steven Shotty let it be known Tyler Loop is going to be the Ravens kicker so that's that they could bring in somebody else it ain't going to be no competition they could host somebody for a visit it's not going to matter Tyler Loop is going to be the Ravens kicker so um hopefully all the kicks can go like his second kick did uh when he made it and all his point after touchdowns did when he made those as well. Um, I did read something that said that before the game, Tyler Loop was struggling from beyond 50 going one way, but then going the other way, uh, he was doing a lot better. So, I don't know if that's the same kick that he missed, the the weight that he was struggling with, but we just that's that's that's the fear. The fear is the the the longer kicks uh over 50. Um, and I know somebody was like, "Oh man, even the one that he made, it was really close." It was, but he made it. He made it. So that's what counts the most is that he does make it. Um I I did see a lot of people also saying, "Oh man, hope a game doesn't come down to Tyler Loop and Tyler Loop is going to cost us some games." And we obviously hope not. Again, this preseason, so he we got two more games to really continue to see Tyler Loop just try to get into form before we hit the ground running, before everything counts, before we play the Colts. Cuz again, we need all phases to be right. And and offense is going to make mistakes, too. Defense is going to make mistakes, too. So, special teams is going to make mistakes. No area of this football team is going to play perfect every single game. That's why it's important that if one area is struggling, then the other two phases, they pick them up. The other two phases, they can be on point. So, they can sort of absorb the blow for whatever that blow is. Hopefully, hey, hopefully every game, all three phases, they all play perfectly, but it just it doesn't happen like that. So, all in all, this was a fun game, a great game. Uh, we loved it. And this was the start of a new era for the Baltimore Ravens. Again, first game for Jesse Mentor as our new head coach, first game for Declan Doyle. He was calling plays from the booth this game. Uh, we'll see if he ends up coming down to the field to try it out. Uh and first game for again Jesse Mentor as a defensive co as a play caller for defense. Anthony Weaver was out there on the sideline a defensive coordinator. Anthony Lavine our special teams coach. So this is going to be fun man. This this was a very very nice introduction to these new Baltimore Ravens. But how did y'all feel this first game went? Did you enjoy it? What did you love from this game? Uh and what did you maybe not so much love from this game? uh let me know in the comments section.
