RAVENS PLAYERS HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT…BUT ERIC DECOSTA JUST ADDED SOMETHING NEW!

This week marks the official start of the regular season of the new era for the Baltimore Ravens under head coach Jesse Mentor. And over these past couple of months, we've heard some stark contrast between Jesse Mentor and John Harball from Ravens players and how different they expect things to be. But we've also heard from ex Ravens players who used to be on this team and they're not on this squad anymore, but they shared their experiences about John Haw. Listen to this. >> Something at the Baltimore Ravens that a lot of people don't know about. Training was hard. >> We did lift. We lift a lot of weights. >> Training was hard. Training was hard. >> Lift hard. >> You lift like >> heavy >> heavy every day. >> Like all I always heard that too. Like y'all would squat every day or >> Yeah. clean. I mean power clean. >> Power clean squats like squatting like >> All those running backs were getting hurt that one year too, >> man. What? I tore my pick out there one year because of that. >> Yeah. It was [snorts] I think the worst thing was the conditioning test by far. >> What was the condition test? >> 150 yard shuttles. Yeah. >> So it's like you go >> It's a It was 10 10 150s. >> No, that's what y'all had. >> Oh, >> we had the 25 yard back, 25 yards back, 25 yards back. And you got to make that a certain amount of time. And you only get half that rest. >> So it was >> that was a lot of hamstrings got pulled. >> Yeah, it was 12 reps. >> A lot of hamstrings got pulled. Yeah, >> but training was crazy. But culture wise, I think >> that locker room was close. Um, that I was a part of, it was every single guy on the team connected with each other. Um, like Lamar be hanging out with the Dline and you got Rocoin going hang out with freaking O line and Mark Andrews over there talking to us and you got kickers and everything just like everybody was close. So, um, the culture was cool. Um, it it was a good place. It was a good place. And I seriously appreciated that. It wasn't like uh Patrick Queen and Deshawn Elliot, they were just bad mouthing the Ravens and just bad mouthing her ball like, "Oh man, this was terrible." And all these hamstrings got pulled. Yeah, I told my pec over there. The training was so bad. It was so crazy. They just made us do all this and all that for the conditioning test. But and he ain't just stopped there. But he said, "But the culture, it was cool. The locker room was great. It was a great place to be at." And he talked about Lamar would be chilling with the Dline and Rocoan Smith would be chilling. all these different people, they were chilling together. He says the players were super close. So, it's cool to hear that firsthand experience from somebody that got to be a part of that. Now, as far as the injuries and whatnot, it's it's been interesting to hear people's perspective on that because so much of what we've heard from so many players directly involved, it's no surprise anything like that. There are nobody that said anything shocking that we didn't see, but they just sort of reinforced our thinking on a lot of stuff with John Harbaugh. But to take it a step further, somebody who we really haven't heard much from as far as the biggest differences between the previous regime and the new regime is Eric Dcasta. and listen to what he said about the differences between mentors coaching and John Hobos. >> You've been around a bunch of great head coaches in your career. With Jesse making that move from coordinator to head coach, do you think that kind of tests like a different level of adaptiveness and resilience just being able to kind of take on some of the new challenges that maybe as a coordinator you're isolated you're isolated from? >> I think so. I mean, it's definitely different. I haven't experienced it uh from from my perspective watching him how he does it. I'm amazed. I think I'm pretty good uh you know multitasker myself, but but watching Jesse bounce around like he does is really super impressive. I mean it was one point you know cuz because my office is over here and his office is like right there and I'd be going over there to see him and he's never in his office. Whereas with with Harbs, you know, a lot of times we would we would meet each other in the hallway or I would see him or he would because he was usually in a grinding tape or looking at stuff, but it's because Jesse's coaching defense. He's always with the defense. He's always with the defensive coaches. He's always with the defensive players. So, I don't really see him in his office much. He comes in to see me when he's up there, but he's like never in his office. So, um we spend a lot of money in his office and I don't know why because he's never up there anyways to enjoy it. But um yeah, I don't know. It's going to be great. Like I'm just super impressed with his focus. Um this one thing about this staff that I really appreciate is their focus and Jesse really kind of epitomizes that uh dayto day because he's got a lot on his plate, right? I don't know how he does it. And I haven't been down on the field yet, you know, as know I watched some of the game on the field. I haven't been down there yet. Um probably because it's just been too hot. But, um, I will be starting to go down there and I'm going to really enjoy just watching that dynamic as the head coach defensive coordinator how he's able to do it. I have a lot of I have a lot of respect for that. >> So, Eric Dcasta detailing how John Harball he would be in his office a lot. It was easy for Eric Dcasta to find him in his office and he did say, "Hey, a lot of times he' be looking at film." So it wasn't like he was seeing it as a bad thing because I know as us as Ravens fans especially under this new regime we looking for anything where it's like oh MAN JOHN HARBAUGH BAD OR JESSE Mentor great and but anyway um he talked about how with mentor mentor is never there he's he's never in his office and he said we paid all this money to upgrade the office make the office look all nice and he is never there where is hea he's out there coaching he's out there giving those players the attention to detail. He's out there preparing them and it's like just everything just sounds so good, man. We just we ready for this season to get started. So Jesse Mentor, take us where we need to go, man. John Hoboff, he tried it. Obviously didn't work out recently in 2012. It did, but I know people going to say, "Oh, well Ray Lewis or Replayers." But it's time for this era, the Lamar era to finally get the job done. And again, we've moved on from Hall. We brought on Jesse Mentor. Now it's time to bring on the Super Bowl. Let's get it, baby. First question came from my guy Antonio. He said, "What y'all been missing?" Oh, what we been missing? He about to tell us. He said, "Dang, Raven, I've been quiet for some time because I've been waiting for somebody, anybody, to realize the most obvious piece everyone has been missing." Well, I'm here to give it to you. All I've been hearing is the Ravens are going to be awesome in the regular season. But what about the playoffs? All I keep hearing is the wide receiver group isn't top-notch or even hearing about play calling. Uh, but what everybody is forgetting and are victims of is the Harball effect. Everything that everyone is going off of is from that Harball regime. Well, I mean that that's true because that's all they have to go off of. They can't go off of the new regime yet because we haven't got to see the new regime yet all the way. We seen them in preseason. Hey, them boys looking good, baby. But we haven't got to see them in the regular season yet. So that's why and with with analysts, with fans, with plenty of people. Yeah, it has been based off so much has been based off of what we've been through previously. But now things about to change in a good way. Anyway, continuing. He said, uh, this is a whole new situation now, baby, with this mentor program all the way down to how they draft. It's different. It's new. It's no longer hball. And the beautiful thing about it is that no other NFL team has film on the Ravens and mentored together till about week six. But by then, we'll be six and0. But I'm getting ahead of myself. No, no, no. Keep going, Antonio. Keep doing your thing. But yeah, that it's true. Everything is brand new. I know I was definitely a victim of exactly what you are talking about myself and I did that with the wide receiver room. Now I still would not have been mad and still would have preferred them to bring in another veteran and a good veteran, a veteran that's not washed up, a veteran that's not barely in the league anymore, but a a veteran wide receiver to accompany Z Flowers and accompany Rashad B and accompany our other receivers. Um, and the reason that I wanted that was because I just just in case, like just in case. I know we got Jacobe Lane and we all super excited about him and he should be very fun and we hope that he ends up being amazing. Um, but I just I felt like we just had so much inexperience in the wide receiver room and we I felt like I wanted it to be more of a sure thing right out the gate. More experience right out the gate. What people in the comment section corrected my thinking which I appreciated like hey you this a new era this is this is a new regime this is Jesse Mentor now so we know with John Hob one thing that he did not really put too much trust in a lot of times not necessarily every time but a lot of times was rookies it came to rookies it's like you a rookie h I don't know if you can handle this yet I don't know if you ready for this yet so I'm going to sit you to the side maybe some special teams or something you may get get in here and there But let let the big boys handle this. Um, so that's that that's just the case. And that's is that a wrong thing? Uh, not necessarily, but that was just his thing. But now, uh, under Jesse Mentor could be different. I mean, it is different cuz, yeah, they didn't bring in no veteran wide receiver. They didn't. They brought in Chris Moore for the offseason for a little bit of the offseason. Um, did he sign back to the practice squad? Man, now I don't even remember. But anyway, um it's just it's different now. So, I have to give this new regime a chance. Now, I still would have liked them to bring in a veteran receiva. I still would have liked that, but um I got to give this new regime a shot and see how they operate with just really everything. Well, continuing, he said, "We need to realize and get ready because it's a whole new world of possibilities." Oh, shout out to Aladdin and Princess Jasmine. uh he said there's a whole new world of possibilities now that we have competency in the coaching staff for well I I would say even with the pre previous coaching staff we had competent cuz if they were just not competent at all we would be 0 and 17 every year we'll be two and 15 we would be three and 13 or 14 we would be really really like inexcusably bad we would be terribly bad but they weren't so with with John Hoa with with his regime team. It wasn't all bad. We can't act like it was all bad. Now, it was frustrating and we we weren't The Ravens weren't maximized. The talent wasn't maximized. The team was not maximized because they should have had a lot more success than they did have, but it was too much where they broke down at the very end. They just they just weren't closers. That was one of the biggest things. They weren't closers. A lot of the decision I don't even need to get into it, but yeah. So anyway, he said 14 and three is my prediction with us going all the way and Action Jackson getting that blank check. What's your thoughts? Well, that that check got to have something written on it because he already is he still got and he'll still have another year left on his deal after that. Um so but yeah, I I do see what you're saying though. Um yeah, I Oh, you said 14 and three. That would be nice. That's that would have had to be number one seed right there. 14 and three. That would be great. I um yall know my record prediction has been 12 and five. Uh I I hope that I end up being wrong and I hope that my my record prediction gets blown out the water like 14 and three. That's two more wins but that's a big difference because 14 and three you up here versus 12 and five. You still high but you a little bit lower but that seating it could make a difference and for things to be at the crib with the new area and that that could make things even more comfortable for Jesse Mentor to where he like hey oh we at the crib we playing our playoff games at the crib. Hey, let's go. We got the home field behind us. This this a brand new playoff. This a this this a fresh start. It's a fresh slate. So, let's see how these boys do. But we looking forward to it. And like I said earlier, it starts this week. Next question came from my guy 410er. He said, "What's up, Engraving the Tink? Keep it clean. It's been a while since the last time I wrote in, but I still been watching and supporting the channel." Thank you. Thank you very seriously. Thank you. He said, "First, I got to talk about Chandler Rivers. He was reportedly the highest graded quarterback out of every corner who played this preseason. Oh, I ain't know that. I know he looked good, but I I know he I know he was the highest graded corner. That's a good introduction to the league. Great. Cuz he looked again, everybody. We can say this about everybody. But Chandler Rivers, he's a rookie. Rookie. He looked comfortable. He looked comfortable. He ain't look scared. He ain't look intimidated. He ain't look out of place. He looked comfortable. But this this whole team did. they well there's one area where it didn't look so comfortable but we've been talking about that in excess and y'all know exactly what I'm talking about but put in the comment section if you think you know what I'm talking about I know you know what I'm talking about but put in the comments if you the one area where it don't look so comfortable but anyway Chandler he he looked comfortable continuing he said and from what I saw uh the film matched the grade he played with I just at so many times I just get to talking I just got to keep reading and I do this every single video but we be on the same page he said he played with confidence we just talking about his confidence. He said he stayed disciplined and coverage and never looked overwhelmed by the moment. Everything that we were just saying, too. See, we see it. Anyway, he said, "I know they're built differently, but something about his patience, technique, and the way he competes reminds me of former Ravens corner Jimmy Smith." Well, that's quite a comparison right there, especially with Jaylen Rivers being a slot corner versus Jimmy Smith being an outside corner. Jaylen Rivers having a smaller frame, Jimmy Smith having a bigger, taller frame. Um, but hey, he said, "I'm not saying he's Jimmy already, but I see some of the same traits. Do you think uh Chandler Rivers has a legitimate chance to eventually become one of our starting outside corners a year or two from now?" Oo, outside corners. Ooh, anything possible, but cuz his role could expand. I think that they drafted him for as as an inside corner. I think that's what his primarily ro his primarily role his primary role is. But hey, as we know with time things could change. He said, "Oh, do you see him being more effective in the slot because of his size?" Oh, see, I just got to keep reading. I keep I keep reading the sentence then talking and then he ends up saying exactly whatever he's saying. Anyway, he said, "With all the talent in the secondary, how should the Ravens get him on the field without slowing his development?" The rotation. Just having a rotation. Um, again, my guy Jason from Hulled Up Films, he talked about that with Jesse Mentor with last year or the [snorts] last couple of years with the Chargers. He had them quarterbacks on a rotation because Jesse Mentor, his quarterbacks are solid. They weren't Ravens. Like, so Ravens, their quarterbacks are better than what they had over there with the Chargers. Um, but he had them Chargers quarterbacks looking like all pros. He had that, I mean, he had a defense looking amazing. So with Chandler Rivers, I think it'll just be a rotation. Now Marlon Humphrey is the primary slot guy. What I would hope would be that [snorts] we just blowing all these teams out. We going crazy with it and then a lot of guys get to get some play in because hey, we up by 50. Uh this other team only got three. Hey, let some other guys get some burn for a little bit. Okay, cool. So, but no, that he'll figure it out. He he'll figure it out. And all it all also depends on who's in on game day because you just you don't want to just put people out there just for the sake of putting people out there to play because if you got something good and it's going good, you want to keep that going good. You want to keep that momentum and keep the flow of things going the right way. Um but I'm sure yeah, Chandler, I'm sure you going to get his opportunity, man. I think it's going to start with special teams. U but offense, I'm tripping, but on defense, [laughter] I think he he get a little playtime here and there. Nothing nothing crazy early on, I don't think, just because of what's in front of him though. He said, "I also think the two tight ends we drafted, Matt Hypner and Josh Quz, could have a sneaky impact this season. Everybody's naturally focused on the bigger names, but both of those guys could give the offense more flexibility, especially as blockers. Underneath targets and weapons in heavier formations, they might not put up huge numbers, but they could make certain packages much harder for defenses to read. Yeah, they could. Because with tight ends, they present multiple threats. Um, obviously as pass catchers, but if a tight end can excel at blocking, too. That that's really, really good. And like you said, they can make stuff a lot less predictable cuz you could be thinking, "Oh, here come all these tight ends. Oh, it's all these heavy guys. They're getting ready to run the bowl." But Lamar hit him with the he put in Derek Hy chess, but then take it and let's play action and then somebody could end up being wide open. Uh anyway, he said uh any another player I want your thoughts on is Joe Faniano. [laughter] Oh yeah, Joe Faniano, huh? Anyway, he said the Ravens reportedly received trade interest in him but decided to keep three quarterbacks after he led the league in preseason passing yards. Do you think Baltimore kept him because they genuinely view him as a future QB too, or were they mainly afraid of another team would claim him? I think it's it could be both of those things. But I also think and I I hate the thought, but I do think for Eric Dcasta that he might have been thinking even long term down the road just in case things don't go so well with negotiations with Lamar just in things just in case things end up falling apart and they can't get something done. I think that Eric Dcasta might be thinking that Joe Fano could be an option uh at quarterback. So just and again it's business and like we said in the previous video where we talked about this um it's it's not something that most of us want to happen at all. We do not want Lamar going anywhere. I'm sure there's some Ravens fans. Oh yeah, let Lamar walk and and the ones that like if if if somebody not a fan of Lamar Jackson, okay, whatever. You can't force nobody to be a fan of nobody and that that's cool. But it's the way that people like they they some people not everybody but they try to oh man yeah you let Lamar Jackson walk and they they try to be these like these fan champions or something like like oh you know what I'm looking at this belt right now. They try to be like oh yeah I'm I'm the I'm the best Ravens fan in the world. I'm the I'm the Ravens fan champion. Let let Lamar walk it. I I wear I rep the name on the the front of the jersey, not the back. I'm the And it's like, all right, we we get it. Like, calm down. Relax. So, it it's it's just when when people do too much, it's like for what? What are you doing all that for? Who like really? Anyway, um so that that's what I think Eric Dasa could possibly be thinking with Joe Faniano, but again, hopefully it don't get that far. And he said, "Also, what position group concerns you the most going to the regular season?" Uh, kicker. Kicker. This is one thing where uh Oh, he said, "For me, it might still be the offensive line depth." Okay. See? Yeah. One thing we don't agree on right there. Um, one thing that Well, I just got to read the first question and our answers were completely different. Uh, [snorts] he said it for me it might still be the offensive line depth. The starting talent is there, but one or two injuries could change everything, especially with the team continuing to bring in veteran linemen. Yeah, they have been bringing in a lot of different guys over and over and over. So, yeah. He said, "Last question. Which young Raven do you believe will have the biggest impact this season? Chain the Rivers, Zion Young, Jacobe Lane, Vega Yane, one of the rookie titans, or somebody else that nobody is talking about." Well, I definitely think uh Wenger Yane for sure. Um Jacobe Lane, he has already had such a big impact on this team. like with all the attention that he's brought to the Baltimore Ravens, like we I just really don't remember the last time we had a a rookie receiver. This a third round pick, not even first round, but a rookie receiver just bring this much eyes and draw this much attention to the Ravens. I do not recall it happening with Zay Flowers. How he was obviously a baller. um with Mark Clayton, with Hollywood Brown, with Brashard Perryman. Um I just I don't recall a receiver like really drawing this much eyes to the Ravens like that. Like Jacobe Lane like people like really love him. Obviously, I mean the personality off the charts, but the vibe, but then the play to what we've been seeing. So I I I would say him too, like a lot of these guys. And then on then obviously on the field we want him to do well as well. But on the field too uh Zion Young I I would say Zion Young just his presence um the fact that he just he just look upset man. He he look like he's heated man. Look like he just he ready to set something off. So I I would say Zion again I I would also expect him to have like a little 15 yard penalties here and there just due to just going hopefully Jesse M get under control though. But I I would say Zion Young. I I think he going to make a big impact. And he said, "Keep doing your thing, engraven team. Keep your clean purple rain supreme." Hey, hey, I appreciate you. Next question came from my guy Steve. He said, "What's up? What's happening, Steve? I hope everything is good with you. Just wanted your outlook on Lane and Serat and their rookie seasons, plus your boldest prediction for the season for the Ravens." He said, "Keep up the great work. I love the videos." Hey, appreciate you, Steve. Thank you very much. My outlook on Jacobe Lane and Elijah Surat. Um, with Jacobe Lane, I expect uh much more impact on the offense uh from him than Elijah Serat. Like Jacobe Lane, he already claimed that number three wide receiver spot. They haven't like officially said it, but when we saw him dressed in regular clothes uh in that second preseason game and TZ Walker was still playing and then in the third preseason game, the last preseason game, he ain't get dressed at all and TZ Walker was playing. Oh, yep. Jacobe Lane, that's do I receive a three. It's official. Could he move up even higher? We'll see. But, um, so with him, he's going to be out there a lot. He's one of the top three receivers on the depth chart for the Baltimore Ravens. So, he's going to be out there. Uh, with Elijah Serat, uh, he would be more wide receiver, five, I think, cuz TZ Walker, I would have assumed that he's four. And then after that will be Elijah Serat. And Elijah Serat, I think we could see him on special teams sometimes, maybe. Uh but no, they tried him at punt return when uh in a preseason, but yeah, that's going to be Leonte West's spot, but you can see him on special teams still. Um so yeah, I just think he'll get more Jacobe Lane will have more of a role than Elijah Serat. Um I don't think we're going to see too much Serat uh too early on in the season. I mean, he's going to have some opportunities here and there, but I think right now, um, his role could be that of something like Tylen Wallace, for example, to where he gets out there from time to time, but it's not he's not consistently out there only because of what's in front of him. Oh, my fault. Steve's other question. He said, "What's your boldest prediction for the season for the Ravens?" Um, Lamar getting MVP. That's not a bold prediction. That's that that's just something that he has to do. Um, I would say the Ravens going undefeated in the playoffs. Next question came from my guy Noah. He said, "End of the road." Oh, man. You You ain't going to be part of the Team Keep It Clean family no more. You You giving up on us like that? Say it ain't so, man. Let's Let's see what he got to say. He said, "This message is for Team Keep It Clean." Oh. Uhoh. Here we go. He [snorts] said, "The new season is here. September 9th. Why are they starting on Wednesday? It's weird, but I digress. Well, football eventually they it's business. They are going to want to play a game every single day of the week eventually. They're close. Like Tuesday will be the last day left and that's it. If they get they play they start playing games on Tuesdays, that'll be the last day left. So, it's it's going to happen soon. But anyway, he said, "Ever since January 7th, uh we've and yes, I include myself because I have definitely sent in my email have been addressing John Hall. Rightfully so, we have complained, vented, processed, chronicled, re remmonstrated, and conspiractorized everything about John Harbaugh's tenor." Rightfully so. But now, it's it's funny because he gonna watch the top of this video and be like, "Oh, I just this this what my question was about." Anyway, he said, "But now it's time for all of us to check out of the Heartbreak Hotel, turn in our ex alcoholic cards, and move into the new era. New season, new mindset, new ideas, new coaches, Jesse Mentor, Declan Doyle, Anthony Weaver, or from now on when we think about Harbaugh, just remember what he said. The New York Giants. The New York Giants. This is the New York Giants sitting in this room. The New York Giants." Wow. Yeah, that was that was tough, man. And was he uncomfortable? I don't know. I've seen people say, "Oh man, he was just really unprepared." Who knows? But could we seen Harp give some much better speeches than that? Like, it's like, "Hold up. We know you got something better." Maybe he was tired at who who knows what was going on. But anyway, he said to everybody, "If nobody told you they love you today, I love you." Okay. Hey, shout out to Noah. All right. You scared me first a little bit when you said the end of the road. And the way you This message is for team keep it clean. Oh. Uhoh. No, don't don't break our hearts like that. But [snorts] okay, he he just basically saying like, look, we moving on. Everything is new now. This a new era.
