Video summary

The video offers an intimate glimpse into the daily life of a doctoral student at George Washington University, capturing her journey from morning routines to evening celebrations. The day begins with excitement over improved weather and plans to visit Trader Joe's to buy birthday gifts for friends, including flowers and candles. She reflects on reaching 1,000 subscribers after ten years since starting the channel in undergrad, emphasizing that not every passion project needs monetization and expressing gratitude for her audience who supports her journey as a Black woman navigating academia and psychology programs. As the day progresses, she balances personal interests with academic responsibilities, including editing videos, running despite sunscreen mishaps, and watching reality TV while recovering from a hangover. She prepares for an end-of-year summer party celebrating the completion of the academic year by many third-year students who are leaving to begin their fourth-year internships. Dressed in a dress she bought during her trip to Greece, she heads to campus with friends, reflecting on how much she has matured since entering the program at age 22 and cherishing the meaningful friendships formed along the way. The evening culminates in a heartfelt ceremony where students receive awards for their contributions to mental health care, particularly focusing on serving marginalized communities such as LGBTQ+ individuals and racial minorities. During her acceptance speech, she shares that her mission was driven by personal conviction rather than just professional goals, honoring both herself and her mother who inspired her path. The celebration concludes with a toast to resilience, community, and the shared journey of showing up for oneself and others despite challenges, reinforcing the program's commitment to accessible care and social justice.

Right. [Music] It's out now. Bye, sweetie. [Music] Wow. Wild. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Joe Murphy, right? I don't know what else to do. Grab two B. Hello. Happy Juneenth. I am so excited. Uh, the weather has taken a turn for the better. I swear this whole week it's been like so humid and rainy, but it just feels really nice right now. So, I'm really excited about that. Um, so right now I'm walking to Trader Joe's. I want to pick up just a little like bouquet of flowers and like maybe a candle for my friend because it's her birthday today and we're all going to meet at the bar. But it's so nice. I kind of want to just lay out by the pool, but I'm not sure if I'm going to have time for all that. So, we'll see how it goes. Make sure you subscribe. Literally, yesterday we hit 1,000 subscribers on YouTube, and I'm so happy and so thankful for each and every one of you. But my camera is on 5%. And my arm hurts from holding this big bad boy. So, I'll check in with you guys in a bit. [Music] Hello. Hi. So, I'm running so late. Um, Emily's birthday happy hour starts at 4:00 and it's currently 3:52. So, um, I have been more on time, but I'm going to give her this thing of Gemini stickers cuz she is a Gemini. And it was so funny cuz I have always intended on giving her this sticker set, but when I was in class, like we sat next to each other and I was like, "Oh, you should pick one that you like." So, she picked this one and put it in her laptop and I'm going to write her a little card and put it in here and then give her that. And then I also got her like candles and like a little thing of flowers. So, I feel really good about that. I'm just going to sign this really quick. I'm going to say thank you for being the last friend and neighbor. Love you so much. Cool. So, that's done. And yeah, we're going to head off to the little happy hour thing. I hope the sticker set fits in here. But yeah, I'm going to leave my big camera here. I'm going to vlog the rest of it on my phone. And yeah, don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe. I don't really have a theme for the vlog today. It's literally just a couple days of my life because I asked y'all and that's what y'all wanted to see. All right, love you. I'll check in with you guys later. Happy birthday, Emily. I'm going get it for my belly. Hannah banana made yours down. I woke up against my will at 7:40. [Music] It's so cute. [Music] Yes. I am. It's so cute. [Music] Because I was like, I have Gemini stickers. Do you want one? And I fully wanted to give them to you. I was like, "Wait, I can't get the turn off. Be cool. Be cool. [Music] Yeah, [Music] it smells so good. I almost kept it for myself." For the vlog. I've officially reached 1,000 subscribers. It only took 10 years. [Music] Good morning. Happy Friday. I am really excited today. We had so much fun last night and I came home and I've been taking this like homeopathic hangover medicine and it works like a charm. So this morning I went on a run and that nearly took me out and then it's like the run was fine but my sunscreen really was like my biggest op on the run. Like it just looked so bad. I don't know what happened, but I think I'm going to keep using that sunscreen for like my morning runs just because I want to use it and like get rid of it and then I just won't use it for like when I go to the beach and stuff. But anyways, so I came back home, watched a little bit of Meg the Stallion on Love Island cuz I am obsessed. And like she did such a good job of just like changing the vibes in the villa, like making sure like everyone understands that people are human and people make mistakes because I really was like over Huda and like ready for her to just like go home. And like after the twerk off, I was like, "Oh, Huda is the girl. She's that girl." So I'm really excited to kind of see her journey continue. And with the new bombshells, I feel like the Huda Jeremiah drama has kind of like come to an end. Anyway, this is not a Love Island YouTube channel, even though maybe it should be. So, right now, I want to edit this video. I have a pretty big day ahead of me today. Originally, like I was going to go lay by the pool and hang out with a friend when she goes from work, but my pool doesn't open until like noon, which is very distressing to me personally. It's like interrupting my hot girl summer. But I have like my swimsuit on, so I'm ready to go to the pool as soon as it opens at noon. But until then, I have about an hour to kill. I'll probably edit this video and then I have some work to do for school, so I'll probably just try to get a head start on that. Make sure you like, comment, and subscribe. And I know I've said this probably a thousand times already, but I am so happy that we're finally at 1,000 subscribers. Literally, I started this channel in undergrad and I am now a doctoral student. It's been like 10 years. So, never give up on your dreams. And if you have something that's like a passion project, like not everything needs to be monetized. I am nowhere near being close to monetization, but I just like making videos and I like hanging out with you guys and I like kind of sharing my journey as a black woman and like academia and in like a psychology program. Like you don't see that often. And I know there's a few of you guys out there that have been rocking with me for a long time. And I just want to say thank you so much. I truly love you and I truly appreciate you. And it means so much that people are watching my videos, tuning into my videos, and just that I'm able to like inspire. Like even if it's just one person, that's more than enough for me. [Music] Hey [Music] girl. [Music] So cute. [Music] Hi everybody. Hello. [Music] It's good to see everyone. My mom is [Music] um for last time for some of you. [Music] Oh, we'll get to the top part. Well, maybe not. Everyone gets the opportunity of being given to watch the last episode about a lot of people who get to the sub part earlier. [Music] Okay. So, I just finished my last little meeting of the day, my film and media lab. It was bittersweet because our beloved third years are leaving us and we're breaking for the summer. That being said, I am going to go to the pool and get some of the sun before I have my SID program party tonight. Got my water. I got my book. I got my beach blanket. I'm ready to go. I'll see you there. [Music] We are now at GW campus. While I was at the pool, I literally started just like taking out some of my twists cuz they've been in for a couple of weeks now and I felt like one was starting to dread and I was like that's not not on my lock journey. Love that for other people. Do not want it currently for myself. So, I think I mentioned this already, but I'm heading to our little summer party to celebrate the end of I guess the academic year. We still have like a little bit more to go sadly. Uh but a lot of the third years are now about to leave on internship for fourth year. So it's like a little party just to celebrate everyone getting in and getting placed. But yeah, I'm like really excited. And this is my outfit. My shoes. I got this dress in Greece um but at a big black store like H&M. So you might be able to find it if you want it. And I forgot how like much it shows the sweat marks. So, I'm trying to get there and like take my time so I don't sweat too much. All righty, let's go. Let me figure out where I'm going. Honestly, [Music] us as faculty and you students and as staff because we can't show up for the world. And so I want us to say that this program is about doing our best to showing up for the world. And so I hope that in this year of tough things and learning and working hard and hours and patience and math and applications and so forth that we you celebrate also the fact that this hard work goes towards us showing up for ourselves and the world and that is huge. And so with that, I want to at the end we'll take a toast to that. So I want to congratulate all of us on being here. I'm survived and bring a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling and provides accessible care and resources to vulnerable populations in a private practice setting. They have treated clients of racial, gender, sexual disability, and religious minority status for a variety of clinical concerns. Miss Mr. Hervey has treated ethnically diverse LGBTQ plus people at the center clinic. They were a co-leader of the LGBTQ plus process group and helped bolster the center clinic's connections to minority populations and organizations within the greater university structure via the student cultural center. [Applause] Y'all loaded me up on alcohol and put a microphone. Um I what um did someone tell that man to speak a little louder? Um I am uh beyond words. Um I I came into this program with a goal. Not even really just a goal. What a mission. [Music] [Applause] This is it. [Music] This is so not glamorous. Sorry, I know we have like time. I came into this program with a mission. I have always been set on the mental health of marginalized groups of people. Not just because it's important. I did it for me and I did it for my mom. So when you're congratulating me, you're congratulating her. Thank you so much [Applause] among us and representing so many good things about our program. This year's Hansel award goes to Man. [Applause] Yeah, I can't go after Jeffrey. [Laughter] That was beautiful. Um, I came into this program a 22-year-old, matured so much through here and made beautiful friendships, great relationships, and I'm really grateful for the people that have loved me, supported me, and taught me to be a better person and clinician. So, thank you, and thanks for voting. Woo! [Applause] Hi. Hi, Nas Vlog. I'm back. Your favorite guest. It's Hannah Banana. I'm heading out now. Bye, Snoopy. Bye. Do you want to Lauren? Bye. free to so a lot of things uh we have said celebrating our program but this toast is to all of us is to all of us for a very meaningful intense often hard and uh a year of uh learning and being together and so uh with that what was behind us and what it taught us um celebrating that and to a new year together as a program and in a year that we all again come back and celebrate who we've been and who we are and who we want to become. So to a program to all of us to all of us together and to to being being in community. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers for my vlog. [Music]
