Preston North End V Everton | Starting XI Show

Welcome to Toffee TV. It is starting 11 show Preston North End versus Everton in the Carabao Cup. Tricky game this, certainly as it's the second leg and we're only a week into the season. So, it will be interesting to see what David Moyes picks for this game, but I know what I'm going to pick and um I'm not going mad because having seen what happened last year and knowing how important this trophy is for Everton and sort of where we are now, I think it's important we go we go for this trophy and I think it starts with with this game and getting through this game and you know, we got to win on Saturday and we've got to keep that up. So, Jordan Pickford [snorts] in goal. No ifs, ands, or buts, or maybes for me for this. Um I just I just think you've got to go strong. He had no pre-season. You know, he only played one game before the Premier League game. So, for me I think you keep him in. Um you keep that sharpness, pick that sharpness. I know he looked very sharp on Saturday, but and there's absolutely no no way I would change the goalkeeper for this. At right back I'm keeping Mason Holgate cuz I think it's important that there is consistency cuz the last thing we need to do is get someone who starts right back and then change him for someone else who who also someone who's not a right back. On you know, I understand people might say you put Patterson there, but I again, I don't want to try and weaken this team. I think it's important that there's a consistency and I think Mason Holgate getting another game ahead of Saturday where I imagine he'll start again at right back. It's really important for him to to start understanding that role. Cuz let's let's be honest. There's a chance that after, you know, this time next week he could be Evan's right back. I mean, you know, on Evan's track record, he could still be Evan's right back. So, it's important that he gets in as many games as possible at right back. So, I'm going for him at right back. At left back, I am making a change. I'm bringing Adama Traore into the team. Um I think he had a decent pre-season. I think he's shown what he's all about. And I I think for me, he's only one of a few changes I'd make for this game because I do believe that there's a player in there. I think it This is the kind of game where we'll get, you know, value from him. And I think you know, why not? Why not? If you're making just a few changes, why not go for him and show that he's that we had do have a backup left back. I know I know he wasn't on the bench on Saturday. There's no been no real reason given for that. But I would have him at left back, so he's my left back. At center back, I am going for James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite. Um I I think I don't think Jarrad Branthwaite will play. I think Jarrad Branthwaite's We're still looking after him. We're still making sure that he's okay. We're still making sure that he has a long season. There aren't that many week mid-week games in I think it's only the Carabao Cup till December. So, I think I think we can get away with not having him for this game and make sure that for Saturday he's born for again, he's 100% fit. But also just making sure that just within himself that we get the most out of him this season. And I don't think this is a risk we we need to take. So, obviously a lot of lot of um talk about Jarrad. Well, here's an opportunity going to the team. You know, be be 100% do your job and let's see what happens. Going for Tarkowski next time because I don't see the point in changing two. I really don't. I think again, you know, I Do we really want Start making too many changes. You can't have You can't have um Asnew in the team and you've already got Rohl at right back who isn't really a right back. So, suddenly if you make another change, you've suddenly got a back four of Asnew, Jake O'Brien, Michael Keane, and Milan Rohl. And I think that's too many changes. That's, you know, So, that's a no for me. So, I'm got That's the back four I'm going for. In midfield, Hayden Hackney stay in front of the back four. I get you could say James Garner give James Garner, but again, why risk He came on for the last 10 minutes or so plus added time on Saturday. He's I barely kicked a ball in preseason. Is he at that stage where he can play an hour? Only they know. I'm just looking at from from being looking at from the outside and thinking that might be a risk. And again, Hayden Hackney, how many games is he going to get once Broadhead's back and back home or or when I say Broadhead starts playing, how many chances is he going to get when James Garner is available? Get him as many games as possible and Everton should give him as many chances as possible and Everton should. He doesn't need to go out to the side at this stage. Um So, I would 100% have him. With Harrison Armstrong, I'm sure him going back to the club that he was on loan at, he'd love that. And again, I really don't think there's anyone else there anyway. And for me, Keane and Gibson will both start as well. Cuz it cuz again, then you brought the only way you play we will play you can bring in for him is is uh Carlos Alcaraz, just Charlie Alcaraz, and again, I just don't see the point. So, that's my midfield, central midfield. On the right, I'm going for Tyler Dibling, because I think he deserves an opportunity. He's a player that had a decent pre-season. I think he was unlucky not not to not to start on Saturday, but not to get off the bench. I had a I had a role to on when Alcaraz came on on Saturday and took took Ings off. Um so I so for me, I think I'd definitely start Dibling, and obviously you've got Ings on the bench if you need him as well. On the other side, I would start George, cuz again, I don't think there's any need for him to leave him out. Okay, you could look at Brennan Johnson, but Brennan Johnson hasn't had he's had very very little pre-season as well. Same for Everton. And I just don't think again, you are you want to win this game, you want to be you want to go into it strong as possible. The likes of Brennan Johnson and James Garner, they this would be like an ex-pre-season game for them. To me, I don't want to look at it like that. I want to look at this game as a really serious game that we take [snorts] on. Those players can come on and get half an hour at the end. Um whether you know, regardless of the score. So, I would go for them. And up front, I'm going for Badi. Again, I see no reason to swap the center forward. I think Badi would desperate for goals. He will uh he want to add to the goal he got on Saturday. And this is an opportunity for him to get more goals ahead of the Bournemouth game, which he'll be starting. It's just not a point of the season I think that we need to be making wholesale changes. And I think David Moyes needs to send a message to the fans as well, who who will be questioning them on on this tournament. So, for me, you know, I've made minimal changes and I think I think he's certainly someone like Branwaite. I think that's that that has I think has to be made. So, that's my starting 11.
