Power Book 3 Raising Kanan Season 5 Episode 7 Recap | KANAN IS THE SCUM OF THE EARTH!!!

Hey, what's going on everyone? It is B Avery and Lamont. We are back for Power Book three, Raising Kanan season 5, episode 7. Penultimate means second to last. Under pressure from every direction, Rock fights to stay in control as alliances fall apart and Kanan's increasing ruthlessness puts his relationships at risk. Of course, this is spoiler, spoiler, spoilers. And before we get into the nitty-gritty, we do apologize for our absence, for our tardiness. We just were not able, me and Lamont were just not able to get on the same schedule to give you these reviews and I just wasn't as enthused for reasons I'm about to tell you now. So, we wanted to come through in these last two, at least try. So, we apologize there. But, Lamont, my heart is broken, bro. Um, it's it's obvious the news is out there. If you couldn't tell from the title and or thumbnail of this video, I hate Kanan. I I really do, man. I mean, damn. Just they was letting us know it was going to happen throughout. They kept hyping Marvin up. You know, he's dropping all this wisdom, all this knowledge, being the best upstanding citizen, black man that he can be, being the best father, being the best role model. You know, he he he's self-reflecting. Oh, Rock, that she [ __ ] us. No, Rock, we [ __ ] ourselves. You know, we have to be accountable. You know, they wasn't going to let him, you know, ride off in the sunset. Man, I am um I I've I've said this before, Lamont. I've said this before, but I don't know if I can continue with the show. >> This is I I just I I mean, I'm back and forth, man. I mean, I'm like >> I am I want to still recap the last episode with you, but as far as Tariq and Tommy's show that's coming and Power Origins, I don't know if I can do it. I may change my mind in six, eight months for a year from now. Hey, we back. Season 12 of Power, you know. [laughter] But but right now, man, I'm just like, why man? Why? Any I'm I've been blabbering. How you feeling about this latest episode of Power U three, Raising Kanan, season 5, episode 7? >> First of all, I think this was one of the best episodes of the entire series. One of the best. >> Okay. Um, I hated to see my main man Marvin go down the way he did. At least he went out like a G. >> He didn't go out begging. He He didn't go out running. He knew it was going to happen and he told the boy to get on with it. >> None of us like the fact that Kanan did it. >> None of us like that. >> Yeah. >> But we kind of we kind of foretold that this is how it was going to happen. I can recall me and be Avery did like the first episode and be Avery was asking me to pull out my damn notebook of who's going to die, who was going to kill who and we made proclamations that Kanan was going to kill Marvin because he had already killed one uncle and we knew that Rock does not have the stone as big as her stones is. For some reason, them stones shrink to a microscope when it comes to her son. They shrink and only thing that's left now is to figure out how is this going to blow back on the family? How is Juke going to take the information? Does Juke even find out that Kanan did? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was going to bring that up. I was going to I mean I don't think that she does, man, because she been rocking. She in the original show she's rock she's been rocking with him for the longest and I just don't the way that she treated Kanan after she found out that he killed Lou. >> It's going to be times 10 if she finds out that he killed her daddy. >> Right. >> And and and what and what I was talking about earlier. >> Um it broke you're right, bro. This is This is probably one of the best episodes of the series because the acting across the board was phenomenal. I mean, my gosh. I mean, Marvin turned into like a freaking angel. Like, he just elevated the Super Saiyan 3 levels of just like light bulbs going off like, you know, I am Neo and the Matrix and I can see the source code and, you know, um I loved it. So the scene that he was having with Juke when he was sitting on the couch looking at all of his weapons and bullets and you know doing an inventory and he's like what do you want Juke? And hey I don't want nothing to happen to you. You got Garcia over here. What's your alibi? Don't worry about it. I'mma figure it out. And you know and I was that was that scene was incredible. Incredible. So to see that go down between them two and then 10 minutes later your cousin kills your daddy and you know y'all still rocking with each other in the original Power uh series. I don't think she finds out man. And that just that that in it like not only did Marvin die, but he died from his nephew on top of that. The same nephew killed the other uncle. >> Mhm. >> I mean is he going to kill his mama in the last episode? The mama killed the daddy in front of him. It's just too much. It's It's um I'm sorry. Um I was trying to make a point. You You had asked, "Is Juke going to find out?" I said, "No, I don't think so." Because in anyway, I do agree with you. Um one of the best episodes of the series, not just the season, but the series. And um you know that relationship between them two man that dynamic you know um it just it crushes me you know they didn't they didn't have to do us like that. They made a choice to be like let's piss the fans off you know. Um anyway my bad. Um, I have to say something what that was entertaining to me though is seeing Rock's um fortress, her castle crumble piece by piece. I mean, she was getting she was getting hit from left to right, from everywhere, you know, at at the very beginning of the episode, >> uh, you know, because well, the last episode, Kanan, he switched out the drugs and made the judge die. Then it also pulled the gun on Flossy. And I'm like, man, what what was I don't I I wanna We didn't get to talk about it, but what was his plan? He Well, he he told Jarita he was just trying to scare her. But what I was trying to get at is uh when Flossy pulled up at the park and was like, "Hey, I'm done. You know, your son pulled up on me. You know, he switched out the drugs and you you lied to me. We're done." You know, I I kind of smiled and chuckled on the inside because I don't like rock and I was like, "Aha, that's what you get." I was also kind of tickled because, you know, Rob was like, "Hey, you hitting that?" He's like, "Look, it's just business, okay? We talk about personal things, but nothing else. I'm not having sex with Flossy." And also, Marvin, I'm calling you Marvin. Uh, Lamont, I I know I'm rambling here. I know I'm I'm just, you know, be patient with me. My bad. We were being silly making jokes about how Marvin's going to smash Flossy and they going to be flossing and smashing and smashing and all this stuff. That ain't happening. Um, that relationship ended at the be. I'm done. I'm, you know, I I feel silly. You know, I don't, but I do. Um, but anyway, what I was getting at, man, is um I enjoyed Rock's face getting cracked in this episode, back to back to back, starting off with Flossy. Uh, how you feeling about all that? >> I enjoyed it, too, man. after all the pain, anguish, and damage she's caused. I enjoyed seeing that box shrink on her. I mean, her box is probably about the size of her shoe box right now. That's how much space she got for her whole body. She's in a shoe box. >> And to just see her squirm, because we're not used to seeing her in this position, >> right? >> And imagine the kind of squirming she's going to have to do next week because her muscle is gone now, >> right? >> Imagine that. >> Her muscle is gone. I What you going to do? turn Juke into the new muscle all of a sudden. What we going to do? And I think that there's only there's only there's only two options for Rock and we'll get there in a minute. But I I love the scene with Flossy and how she just basically told her if it wasn't for your brother, >> you'd be dead right now, right? >> And I love how Flossy, you know, still cared for Marvin cuz Flossy them panty draws was wet behavior. If Marvin wanted the draws, >> he could have got them. I mean, she had a super down there. >> She went up there and kissed that boy on the cheek knowing that he knew the truth and she still >> kissed him on the cheek. So, >> I love that scene and I love to see a woman step stand up to Rock and Rock feel like it >> the dynamic was flipped. It went from Rock being the one that's all knowing, all powerful to basically if it wasn't for your brother, you would be in a toe bag. So, I enjoyed it. >> Yeah. Yeah, man. Um, definitely did not think it was going to go in that direction, but you know, they they surprised me. So, good stuff there. And, um, yeah, we didn't get to talk about this either, man. They killed Hif's uh, Hafi's brother or relative or close confidant. Man, that was extremely stupid. But I did I did Yeah, just just moronic. I did enjoy the scene between um him himself and um Stefano um >> and the politics that went down just like look these two need to die but at the same time I am concerned that if we do kill her that's going to ruffle the feathers of you know your partner in Manhattan Mr. Ino Bernardi. And so I I didn't even think at the time that he would need to get permission or run it by somebody, but the fact that everything is that intertwined just makes it much more thrilling and entertaining to me. And I I really do like it. Um great acting from that gentleman as well. Him pacing back and forth looking frustrated. I mean, he's angry, I rate, but you know, he he he's trying to, you know, um, you know, stay calm and and reserved, you know, um, you know, he he deserves to flip a table and throw something through the window, but, you know, he can't do that. >> And also, I like the the the respect and the condolences that um, Stefano gave him was, first of all, it is a tragedy. You know, you he lost his life. You know, he didn't brush over it. He didn't sweep it under the rug. you know, he made sure like I know you're hurting. Um, how how you feeling about that exchange between them two? >> I loved it, man. Like I just there was a scene in this whole episode that I did not like. I enjoyed kind of seeing the pageantry between two bosses. I enjoyed seeing just the respect that um Kee, I'm butchering his name, had for the the five mob bosses. like dude was like I don't want to go to war. You and you thinking that this is this guy's like got some Middle Eastern connections or whatever or um you know Hispanic Mexico connections. He's a big time guy himself. But to stand there and say you don't want to go to war with the folks at Manhattan, that is just like ultimate respect for those crime bosses. And you know, I just thought it was a great scene. And I shout out to Tony Danza. Like, yeah, bro, >> I remember you from when I was a kid on I forgot the show you was on, but I loved you in that show. And I love seeing you get your role on right here. Just show reminding people that you've always been here acting. You always been doing this thing and you is nailing it in this role. >> Yeah, man. Um, y'all let us know what y'all think. Whether you agree or disagree, we definitely want to know. We're going to check on these comments. >> But you know what surprised me? Another flip of um of you know between the character is Garcia. >> I'm very I'm very shocked. I didn't I didn't think he was going to go down this path. Man, >> uh last episode he gave I don't want to have nothing to do with this cuz I I thought he was despicable and I still do but you know I guess he has a limit you know there's worse out there but he was like I don't want to have anything to do with this juke. didn't have the money back, you know, and um actually came through with some good information, some some good reconnaissance. And so um yeah, man. How how you feeling about Garcia? Man, I'm I'm kind I don't know what to think of Garcia. Like I don't know how they I guess what we saw this episode was the ending of his arc. Um, on one hand, you want to just kind of say he's a dirt bag, but on the other hand, he gave the money back and got out the game. It's not like he got out the game and said, "I'm keeping your money. I'm getting out." He put an extra gesture on it to kind of just say, "You know what? This is not who I am. I might be struggling, but I'm a clean cop. I'm going to give you this money back. I should have never gotten involved with this." He made a series of bad choices. And before those bad choices got too bad, he decided to take himself out of so I got to give him credit for that. Um, will anything come back to bite him with his captain? Doesn't look like it. So, I pretty much think his story arc is over. And if it is, I'm okay with it. Okay. Okay. Um, do you have a favorite out of Jarita or Aisha? Aiso Jarita. Um, please teach your children never to beg for love like she was showing up at Juke's door. That was ridiculous. I mean, you could say it once, but after you get kicked out, I just have to let you know again. I love you and I won't be able to survive without you. I know you have guns and you do drugs. Come on, man. That was annoying. But anyway, Aisha, Jarita, Jarita, Aisha, do you do do you have a favorite? Are they going to make it out of here? Is is is Aisha gonna get the message? She getting kicked out everywhere by everybody. [laughter] >> I mean that the whole Thomas family kicking her ass. So don't nobody want to be next next to her. Um you know I think it's just fantastic casting for both. I have a soft spot for Jarita. Um Aisha I mean I think they did >> Hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on. Why you got a soft spot for Jarita? because she got into a game that she thought was going to be, you know, limited trouble and she was trying to do it to help somebody else. So, just her overall story arc, she was into that game to try to help somebody in her family or whatever the case may be. >> Okay. >> Aisha, on the other hand, was trying to be part of the the the R&B group and just fell in love. And the thing that they did a great job of displaying when young people think they are in love, all sensibility goes out the window. >> All of it. >> And especially young people who somebody done got in panty draws, which Juke did. You really think you in love and it's probably not love. And you you all your rationale goes out the window. When you found that gun, that should have been your exit the doors to the left. >> Okay. You know what? You all the love I have for you just went into the crevice of this couch. >> I don't love you no more. I'm out. >> Yeah. Just Bro, you got to >> love from a distance. [laughter] >> No, bro. I mean, Eve said it best. Love is blind when you're young. When when you're just starting to understand life, love does feel really really blind. And it it'll take over your mind. And that's what's happened to this girl. >> Yes. >> Jarita, on the other hand, I think Jarita is not a love story. It's more of an insecurity story with Jarita. >> Okay. Okay. >> And um I hope nothing happens to her. I hope nothing happens to either one of them. >> Correct. >> But my heart is more attached to Jarita than it is Aisha. >> Uh [sighs] that's an interesting ending. Your heart is more attached to Jarita. I don't want anything to happen to either one of them either. Um, but you know, I think I I mean, it doesn't really matter, but I think I pref I don't Why do I don't even know why I ask you the question like, you know, who's your favorite? I mean, they're just two different characters, you know. Um, I I I'm I'm not as sympa as sympathetic as you are with Jarita, though. Uh, but >> okay. you know, I mean, that that's just me. And, you know, I like I liked Aisha up until And I'm not saying I don't like her now, but this it wasn't the best display. I'm just like, my goodness, just >> I mean, you know, she's she's she's trying to save you. Like, look, I my life is dangerous. You know, you shouldn't be a part of it. It is best that we part ways. >> And you just staring down the the the barrel of the gun like, "Hey, is it loaded?" you know, um actually literally too cuz she picked up the gun in a way. U but so that's just, you know, annoying. But I've always like Aisha though. Um so will she pop up in the final episode? You know, I don't know. But um we we will see. We will see. >> Be want to see a reunion of Butter. [laughter] >> I do. I I really wanted that group to work out, you know. U that was a that was a fun time for the show and uh these characters in in my opinion. So, you know, uh but yeah, shout shout out to Butter. Uh also, shout out to the little uh the shorter Asian man in this. He made me laugh when Garcia was going into the I guess interrogation room. He was coming out like, "Shit, it's a [ __ ] mess." That was so funny to me. Uh I really got a um a chuckle [laughter] out of that. Well, the dude was stressed like yesesh, you know. Um, so >> yeah, man. He was he was a mess, boy. He was a mess. >> I I take I I got a laugh out of that right there. Uh, what do y'all thought on Breeze, though? What are your thoughts on Breeze and Snaps and Pops, Pops and Snaps, they uh behind the scenes snaking it up, Cobra style, conniving on their bellies. Hey, you know, we got a message from Tony Danza, Mr. Stefano that we got to take Rock and Marvin out and we want you and Kanan to do. You want Kanan to kill his own mama and uncle? That's his family. We his family now. You know what you think about all them [clears throat] >> and that mess? That's pretty cold blooded in my opinion. >> I'm I'm You know what? I was actually happy the way things ended with Pops and Snaps because they they hyped them up to be like this kind of big boss family, but they was doing little boss petty [ __ ] with the two boys cuz basically >> talk about talk talk about uh I'm sorry I don't mean to cut you off but talk about um Breeze. Throw Breeze in there as you know before you talk about their demise. >> Yeah. Yeah. So what what what I'm saying is they supposed to be big bosses and do big boss things, but you in here stirring up petty locker room gossip type [ __ ] by pitting Breeze versus Kanan because Kanan was the one they was thinking about putting in place of Breeze the whole time anyway. >> And I I just kind of felt like >> Breeze was making you money. He he he realized his mistake and all the money he made from the pills, he was willing to give to y'all. He was a loyal, ruthless soldier. I know that y'all knew that. And y'all was about to throw this boy under the bus for what apparently was really and truly his first mistake. Somebody who's of great value, you don't just get rid of him on the first time. You know, you don't just say, "I'm done with you off to the heads." You don't do that. And so I thought that was a bad move on their part and I actually thought that maybe Breeze was going to come after them, but we saw how it ended. And honestly, bro, like I said, I am glad they're gone. They was getting on my nerve. Peace. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um I want Breeze to go. Um >> Me too. >> I I just don't like him. And I know he's going to make it out of here, you know, alive u out of this season. Uh but I just don't like his character, man. I will say I will admit, you know, he did hold his own when Marvin tried to pull up and uh with a driveby, you know, um he was able to defend himself quite well. And so, you know, that was cool. That was impressive. But, um I just I don't like his character, you know. I don't like Kanan either. Um I mean, we we got I got to I want to mention this. Was it the last episode of the episode prior to that when the dude was like, "Hey, man, we need a break. We're scared." or you know it's getting crazy out there, you know, and he just really and just shot him and killed. I'm just like, bro, that that was disgusting. >> Come on. >> Yeah, stupid. [clears throat] >> Yeah, I I I hated I hated Kanan for that, you know. And then, you know, you have the way that this episode ends right here. Um but um Rock, she got dumped by Stfano, she got dumped by Flossy, >> she got dumped by Pino, and that that was funny. Um she's she she's about to get charged with money laundering, you know, um with with her broker. >> And you know, her lawyer is not buying it at all. Um also, she pulled up to um um what's his name? Joy Badass's character. Um Unique. >> Unique. >> Unique. And Pres's mama house. She's like, "Get off my stoop." Then uh Rock goes back to the dude with the green shirt with the slick back and was like, "Hey, you got some work for me?" He's like, "Man, if we want all these witnesses in here, I'll put a bullet in you right now myself, but I'mma piss in your grave." Rock continues to get uh dumped by everybody. And I'm loving it, Lamont. Are you loving it, too? >> Loving it. She Anytime you go and you can't get yourself off with a old school pimp like Traymont, you ain't got no other choices, bro. Anytime a guy like that tell you no, you is completely out of choices, you probably need to think about getting out of dodge like Unique did. And I'm just What was she going to say to Unique? >> Like, >> yeah, >> what what was that conversation going to be like? And so, I have no idea. >> I'm just, >> like I said, I just can't wait to see what we're going to be seeing the next couple of episodes because I've got so many questions. >> What's uh what do you think is gonna happen with her and her lawyer and the moneyaundering thing >> ultimately? I think Rock is either going to have to go to Witset or she's going to be in jail. That's what I ultimately think is going to happen. I think she's going to go to Witset. I think she's going to wind up snitching on somebody. She might wind up She's going to snitch on, you know, potentially Unique since he's out of town or she's going to snitch on um um Tony Danza. One of them she's snitching on. She's throwing somebody under the bus and she's going to be getting up out of dodge cuz who else she got to live for at this point. >> Yeah. >> Kanan don't want to mess with her. Your big brother, your only saving grace is gone now. And I think that's going to break her. >> Yeah. The last episode is called unconditional love. >> So, [clears throat] >> I mean, you know, she's going to have more unconditional love for Kanan than Kanan is going to have for her. So, I mean, of course, she knows that, you know, she spares him if if she did point a gun at him. You know, we know that she doesn't pull the trigger. >> Or maybe she does and wants to wound wound him or something like that. But, you know, we we'll see. We'll see. But, man, um, one thing that we didn't get to talk about is when Marvin beat the hell out of Kanan, I think at the end of episode five. That was one of the best ass whoopers I've ever seen on TV. Episode six, the ne the next episode, he found out that it was a possible accident, but he still charged um his sister Ron just saying, "Wait a minute. You threw our brother in the street in an empty lot like a piece of trash." I love that confrontation. And what I loved even more than that is the confrontation or the dialogue between the two of them in this episode where he was like, "Look, you don't care." You he told a story about them coming up and how they would get street credit um you know by just walking down and everybody knew that they was on their ish about their business that took care of things and would just get out the way. But when they achieved that level of success, it wasn't enough and they wanted more and more and more. And the more that they chased the dream, the further it got away. And he says that I feel that you're obsessed with doing this work and you think that that's going to make Kanan love you or see them see him see you the way you want him to see you. And I'm just like, man, the way that, you know, he he's coming at her, I love it. is like, you know, Unique and Stfano, you don't care about them. You don't even care about me and and your brother. Um, you know, you just care about this and, you know, you got this empty thing, your hole in your chest for Kanan. Um, I I love that. Um, I think we actually talked about that at the beginning of this recap. So, if we did, my bad. Uh, but it was just a badass scene, man. Do you um you have anything there? >> I loved it, man. Like I said, I've been I was a fan of this. The minute I got done watching, I'm actually go back and watch it again, bro. And I usually don't do that. I I just think that our boy actor playing Marvin has showed what he is capable of doing. That scene with him basically telling Rock all about herself and you know she believes. You see the look on her face. Patina Miller, shout out to you two. You're doing a damn good job. Them pretty eyes. You is doing a damn good job. You are expressing to the audience the pain, the misery, the agony, the insecurity you're feeling just with your eyes. That's what you've been doing. And when he put that mirror in front of her face and held it to her, there was really nothing she could say because he was right. He was right. The devil within this family that is harming the family, you don't want to do nothing about it because you are incapable of doing something about it. Loved it. But that just kind of let me know for sure. I was like, "Man, this dude about to die now." >> Golly, I was like, "No, >> he's about to die now." Yeah, >> it was good. Good dialogue. >> Yeah. So, uh, man, it's sad. Uh, Juke Kill Snaps and Pop. I I love that. Um, I'm kind of surprised they were out in the open like that or didn't have better security, but I I love that. And, uh, I mean, do you think Kanan really want Like, why do you think Kanan killed his uncle? Do you think it was because Snaps and Pop or for other some other reason? >> I think it was for Snaps and Pops. And I also think that he would have trouble killing his mama. I don't really think he can do his mama, but I think he would it was easy for him to take out his uncle because his uncle already done whipped his ass and you know, you feel a little sting from that. his manhood has been challenged and you know one easy way to show loyalty that Mike could find a way for him to buy time to not kill his mama is to take out his uncle and so I think those are the reasons why he did it you know to just show that he is willing to take out somebody in the family and you know that might would have bought him some time with snaps and pops but I still don't think he can do it to his mama but you know he did do Marvin so that goes for something Yeah. Um, yeah. Uh, Lam Man, I'm like I said, I'm pissed off. I'm not happy. Uh, I'm I'm very depressed with the ending of, uh, this episode. Uh, cuz I wanted Marvin to live. That's all I wanted. And the writers knew that and they took it away from us because, >> yeah, >> they suck. So, uh, you have any final words, my guy? [sighs] I'm just wondering audience, what are you guys thinking is going to happen to Rock? What do you think is going to happen to Juke? What's next? Like when when when all the dust settles be Avery Snaps and Pops is killed. They are connected to um Tony Danz's character. They was connected to Breeze. Marvin is dead. you know how Marvin is connected to um Rock, he's connect he's connected to Juke. So that's going to be a whole of understanding we've got to figure out. And so there's going to be a whole lot of stuff going on in these last couple of episodes that I'm just wondering how are they going to stick this landing cuz now you could you could easily get the police involved in this. Snaps and pops was a big you know the police want them you know. So, I'm just wondering how this is going to all come to a head and when is the feds going to get rocked? That's all I want to know. >> Uh, hold on. One one more quick question. Is Unique going to come back in some way in the last episode? >> Yes. Yes. He has to has to. >> Got Oh, is is Rock going to die or you she going to be in jail? >> No, she's not going to die. She's either going to jail or Wit say I think she's going to go to witness protection. >> All right, y'all. Let us know what y'all think, ladies and gentlemen. Boy, I don't know what's going to happen. I don't I'm just sad and I don't want to think about it.
