Video summary
Aden Flint, the goalkeeper for Sheffield Wednesday, reflected on his team's resilient performance against a strong opponent, noting that while the first half showed some hesitation due to giving too much respect to the opposition, the second half demonstrated significant maturity and tactical adjustment. He emphasized that the squad's ability to make immediate changes and adapt their mindset was crucial in weathering the storm and securing a victory. Flint highlighted that the team's understanding of their game plan allowed them to capitalize on opportunities in the latter stages, turning a defensive battle into a winning performance despite facing numerous chances from the other side.
The match featured a quick start with a goal scored by Flint himself, which he described as an instinctive volley caught after a run that initially went over him. He expressed pride in contributing both defensively with a clean sheet and offensively with the goal, acknowledging the importance of strikers stepping up when needed while looking forward to more goals from attackers in upcoming fixtures. Flint also praised the strong bond within the defensive unit, attributing their cohesion to rigorous pre-season training and shared experiences that have fostered deep relationships among teammates.
Beyond the tactical aspects, Flint spoke about the special feeling of scoring in front of a packed away end and being celebrated by fans, staff, and players alike, which reinforced the club's strong culture. He humorously noted that while fist bumps at the end of games are enjoyable, they now come with the responsibility of buying coffee for the entire staff, jokingly asking to be excused from that duty. The atmosphere created by nearly 20,000 supporters added an extra layer of motivation and pride, reminding the squad of the momentum they have built and the positive energy they can carry into future matches.
Looking ahead, Flint acknowledged the quick turnaround to the next fixture against Burnley on Wednesday, emphasizing that proper preparation starting in training will be key to maintaining their form. He expressed confidence that if the team continues to prepare with the same dedication shown against Sheffield Wednesday, they are well-positioned for success in both league and cup competitions. With many games remaining on the schedule, Flint concluded that the squad should take pride in their recent achievements while staying focused on building further momentum through consistent performance and unity across all departments.

Aden Flint here at Sheffield Wednesday
this evening. First of all, how do you
assess the game?
>> Um like I just uh said there, I felt
like initially in the first half we
probably showed them a little bit too
much respect. Um
I felt like we weathered the storm.
Um they had quite a few opportunities,
but again, probably a little bit of a
positive that we went in 0-0. Um
and then we sort of spoke about what
what needed to be better.
And I felt like the second half was um
was much better.
>> What does it say about this group,
especially mentally, when they can come
out and make those changes straight
away?
>> I think we're we're really mature. We're
really understanding of what our game
is, and um
I think the second half really
highlights
and sort of the elements that we we
adjusted to in the game sort of
gave us that win uh or gave us that
better performance, if you like. Um and
I think that was the biggest difference
from first half to second half.
>> It was a quite a quick start with the
goal as well. Do you want to talk us
through that one?
>> Yeah, like I just again, like I just
explained there, um
I made my run and it went over me, and
then I've looked back and it was coming
my way, and
yeah, I've I've caught it on the volley,
and thought like just knew it straight
away when I when I hit my boot, and
yeah, I ran off score celebrate with
Bobby.
>> What's been the difference for you this
season to show that real striker's
instinct?
>> [laughter]
>> I really don't know. Um I'm trying to be
as a nick at the minute. I'm top goal
scorer. Um but listen, if we're able to
chip in at the back, it's it's it's big
for us. Um
and I'm sure we'll have uh
the the attackers scoring a lot of goals
with the coming games coming up as well.
So, it it's uh it's a it's a lot of
positives.
>> On a personal note as well, to keep a
clean sheet and get the goal, how
special for United is that for yourself?
>> Yeah, it's it's a great feeling. I think
as a defensive unit as well, to come
here
when they really stuck it on us, um come
away with a clean sheet, and and and Big
Jon at the back, um
it's really good. I think that we can
take that momentum
to the [clears throat]
to the games coming up.
>> How special is that bond in that
defensive unit at the minute?
>> Well, this is what pre-season's all
about. Uh we've had Austria, we've had
those weeks of grueling football and now
um
start to become the tactical side of it
and this is where um we sort of have
these relationships.
And yeah, it's um it's left us in a good
spot at the minute. We've had a good
start, but don't want to get don't want
to get carried away too much. Um yeah,
there's a lot lot of games to go.
>> That is it. It's only three points
tonight, but how much can the whole
squad take from a performance like that?
>> Yeah, it's I think it's all about
momentum. As as quickly as we build that
momentum, I think it's going to leave us
in a good place.
Um like I say, there's so many games
coming up. We've also got cup games as
well. Um so there's a there's a lot to
look forward to.
Um I think we should be proud of what
we've done tonight and um
yeah, look forward to the games coming
up.
>> How special are those scenes at the end
with a packed out away end?
>> Yeah, there's honestly there's there's
nothing better even to score in front of
that away end is a great [clears throat]
feeling.
And then when you've got the the team
and the staff and everyone together and
they're just singing your name, it's
it is really a good feeling. Um and we
were all together there and it just
shows that sort of strong culture that
we've got building at the minute.
>> You're about the fist bumps at the end.
Do you enjoy those?
>> No, I don't because now I've got to get
coffees for the whole staff. I don't you
want to explain how this happens. Um
this is on skip.
Um and yeah, so I'm I'm going to ask him
to buy me a coffee actually cuz I think
I deserve it.
>> Obviously a special occasion waiting on
Wednesday as well. Nearly 20,000 already
for the game. How much you looking
forward to that?
>> Yeah, um like I say, it's a quick
turnaround. Um we get a little bit of a
rest now
and then um our attention turns to
Burnley obviously on Wednesday. Um we're
going to prepare for that right and uh
it all starts in training. So
if we prepare right like we did against
Sheffield Wednesday and um I'm sure
we're have a good game on our hands.
