Petit Train à Vapeur de Forest - Miniature Railway Europe Episode 8.
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The video documents a special evening visit to the La Vieille Train à Vapeur de Forest, a miniature railway located in the suburbs of Brussels, Belgium. The presenter arrives at the venue after attending a gala at another railway earlier that day and discovers that this particular line is hosting a rare twelve-hour steam operation running from morning until late night. Upon arriving by tram, the host explores the grounds which feature various railway lines, a park setting, and an impressive lineup of trains including Swiss locomotives and unique rolling stock like the Ryan Gold Express. The atmosphere is lively with volunteers managing operations, and the presenter notes that despite the unusual timing for such events, the railway offers a fascinating glimpse into heritage railroading with a diverse variety of engines and carriages on display.
After boarding a train that resembles a continental sleeper carriage, the presenter enjoys a scenic ride that circles around a lake within the park. The journey reveals a complex layout where trains can disappear from view for extended periods, suggesting a circuit longer than initially expected, estimated at over a kilometer per lap. During the ride and subsequent exploration of the depot, the host observes an extensive collection of locomotives, including a Royal Scot, a Union Pacific American type, a Prussian engine, and various tank wagons. The facility also features operational infrastructure such as a signal box with operators controlling traffic, a turntable, and specialized equipment like a lifting traverser for moving heavy items, all contributing to the authenticity of the miniature system.
The evening concludes with social activities in the clubhouse, which serves as both a display area for historical photographs and memorabilia and a bar where the presenter enjoys food and beer. The host reflects on the unpredictability and excitement of visiting heritage railways, highlighting how different types of trains, from British to American and Swiss models, can be seen operating side by side. With the steam operations continuing until 10:00 p.m., the presenter has completed two excellent rides and expresses deep appreciation for the friendly volunteers and the well-maintained facilities. The video ends with a strong recommendation for visitors in Brussels to take tram route 82 to Bent station to experience this unique attraction, noting that it is easily accessible and offers a memorable blend of engineering history and community hospitality.

Hello. Thank you for joining me. I'm at
Brussels Midi Stroke Zur Station.
There's two EMUs going out over there.
This evening I'm going to go and visit
my first miniature railway in Belgium.
You did hear me right this evening. It's
not often you go to miniature railways
in the evening, but this railway we're
going to today, they've had a 12-hour
steam up. Now, I've been at um the Pur
to Dendeond Railway Gala all day today.
And when I saw this was on, I thought I
won't be able to go. When I realized it
was running from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00
p.m. I realized I could go. So, what I'm
going to do, I'm going to find my way
out of the railway station. I catch a
tram and we're going to go and find this
miniature railway in the Brussels
suburbs.
All
right.
I just got off the tram over there.
Walked across the park. You can see some
railway lines, various railway lines.
And then look at this. Here we have a
lineup of trains. And this isn't all of
the trains. There's quite a few out. The
place I'm at is Lauchi Train, Evapa
Deforest. So, French um name. Oh,
there's a Is that a Swiss or German
loco?
So, there's some [music] quite
interesting stuff.
>> Yeah, I've never seen the Ryan Gold
Express in miniature before. I think
we're about to see a steam departure, so
let's watch that.
whistle to go. They got fantastic seal
gantry. I can see a signal box over
there. I think they got a few sheds. So,
we'll look around. There's a tram over
there like a Belgian tram maybe from the
old Vista tramways. So, I think we're
going to have an interesting interesting
evening here. And it's just nice.
They're doing it. I mean, this is half 6
in the evening and they're doing this
till 10:00. I don't know how late I'm
going to stay. I've got one ticket to be
going on with. So, my plan is to get a
steam all ride. And um maybe that train
isn't going whistle. I'm intrigued to
see where it goes cuz I can see track
everywhere. So,
perhaps I better go and queue up. It
looks like we're not about to see a
steam all departure, but we'll do plenty
of line siding during the course of the
evening.
>> One more steam train.
I just see a lake over there. So, it
goes around the lake. So, yeah, I'll
have to sus the layout out once I get on
board. Right, let's go and queue up and
have a ride.
Oh, I pick your train. You're probably
only going one.
>> It's got the road now.
Yeah,
>> he's got the road now.
>> I don't mind staying a while. I' got the
food truck there.
>> Yeah, I'll stay. There's a bar in there.
I'll
>> have a beer then.
Round five.
What's
Okay,
Maybe that's
Hey,
>> where we are. I've just boarded the
train. I'm sat on the Vagen Lee
carriage. So, it's like a continental
sleeper carriage. It's quite interesting
seeing what they're running cuz some of
the trains like there's a you see
there's a diesel over there. It's got
wagons and so it looks a bit like a good
train when there's no one on it and
others a passenger carriages like this.
Like there's this Ryan Gold Express
going around. I don't got any footage of
it yet. There was a crocodile Swiss
crocodile with Swiss carriages going
out. So, there's a real fascinating
variety of things. And I always say this
in these modern engineering scientists,
one of the exciting things is you just
don't quite know what you're going to
see. anything quite literally anything
can turn up. So they're just watering
our loco at the moment. They've also got
a brilliant signal gantry up ahead. The
station is called Forest Zent Jac. Um
and there's also an avoiding lying
around now. I've not quite worked out
the layout. So pretty looking forward to
this layout. I've seen trains disappear
and you don't see them again for about
10 minutes. So it's probably a well over
a 10-minute ride we're about to have as
soon as the ordering is complete.
over.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
That's how it go.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Wow.
Heat.
That was a really brilliant ride. Really
enjoyed that. Good 15 minutes. Um I was
talking to one of the volunteers here.
She told me that the station that's not
its usual name. That's renamed this
weekend in honor of a member who passed
away. We're now going to have a look
around and see what else they got. So
they got clubhouse here and we're going
to have a look at the sheds. They've got
loads of locos. It's a really quite a
fascinating place. So, go in there in a
minute. There's a bar in there. So, I
might have a beer when I've done this.
We've got um a signal box there. So, you
can see two guys up there controlling
the railway. I'm talking across the
turntable. Really like that tram they've
got. And then this is depo.
And uh there's a few steam. There's two
more there. That one was just out.
Mallay locomotive. The um depot here
then. So we got two locos on shed and
then there's various other locos down
the back. Got quite a fascinating
system. You got traverse so you can
slide across. If you look there, they've
also got a lifting traverser for putting
um equipment up here. So that's also
quite fascinating. If you look down
there, you can see they've got bark
shear over there down the end of that
road.
There's a black where is it? Black five.
There's a a 4F. You might be able to see
over there. I'd love to see a bark chair
going that American loc
in the corner. There's a Prussian loco
up there. So, that's quite fascinating.
And then what we'll do, we'll go out
here. There's um a workshop. So, there's
a few locos
in here.
Here we are in the workshop.
>> Got a Royal Scot locomotive here.
Queen Victoria's rifleman number
6160acific
and visit
>> Union Pacific American local. Let's just
go down here get a better look at that.
>> And I know I always say this, but that's
why I really like coming to these
railways cuz you just don't know what
you're going to see. You to have a Royal
Scott next to a Union Pacific logo and
various other little steam locos and
there's a tram running. That's what I
think makes why I enjoy Yeah. I think
I'm being called to have a look in the
ze box. So, um what I'll do, we'll we'll
do that last. Um because I'm not going
to turn down opportunity to look in the
ze. There's a few other um English
enthusiasts here. So, uh let's have a
look.
>> Oh, and also down here. We'll go up
there in a second. Look, got the siding.
Got various sidings of various
carriages. They got some nickel plate
railroads um wagons which you can ride
in. I think we're just about to see a
train pass here. Yeah. Look at this.
That's the one we were traveling on. I
like how look they even made some
miniature gate level crossing gates up
here.
>> Looks quite good without pass on. But
yeah, see, look, you can slide I'm not
going to do it, but you can slide them
across and close it off. Um, I better go
to Cbox. I think that's where I'm
supposed to be right now. So, it's a
really quite a nice afternoon.
Basically, the way this has happened is
I'm here leading a rail trail tours trip
visiting Belgium. We're visiting various
heritage railways and um one of the
members spotted this was on, so we
decided we'd come, a few of us would
come here tonight. So this the um
>> to the signal,
>> you know,
>> I mean when you drive, you just follow
the signals basically. If you have
something open, you can go. Yeah.
>> Normally at least.
>> And do do all trains usually follow the
same route that we follow?
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> But you can have a shortcut if you need
to.
>> We we have um we have a few shortcut
that we can that we can take if if we
want.
>> Yeah. Um, and when we make a full lap,
uh, it's around 1 and a half kilometer.
>> Yeah. Yeah. [clears throat]
>> Uh, which is quite decent.
>> It is.
>> It was a good long run. Yeah.
>> You need to look after a fire properly.
>> Uh, yeah.
>> I just been in the single box. I just
filmed a bit and you could hear the
gentleman show me around what was going
on. I want to go in this clubhouse now
cuz there's a few items on display and
it looks like they sell beer. So, I
think that's a Yes. So, the clubhouse
also becomes a bar. So, we'll certainly
have a look at that. Let's just have a
look at some of their other locos on
display. I saw one of these today
actually at PERS. It was doing shunting.
Um, we got a tram here. It's nice scale
model of a tram.
Not sure which system it's comes from.
American Southern Railway.
Wagons. That looks like a Stamia tender.
I think that yeah, it's a tender.
There's another Belgian urban rail car.
There's all these pictures of various
other locos they've had. They've had an
S160 visit. That would have been Look,
there's all these They've had so many
different things visit and run here. So,
we've only seen a few of what what's run
here. There's a few wagons there. Tank
wagons. Few locos. British loco there
called Morning Star. So, um, yeah,
that's all very good. I think now I
might grab myself a beer and then maybe
have a ride.
Cheers. Got myself a beer and it's
really turning out to be a very pleasant
evening. Um, keep interrupting this beer
cuz I keep putting it down to run off
and watch the train go past. So,
yeah, this just a really fun evening.
trains, beer, nice place. All the
volunteers here really friendly letting
us have a look around. Um, yeah. So, if
you're in Belgium, do come and visit
them, but it's easy to get to. It's just
on Crown Route 82 at a stop called Bent.
Anyway, I'm going to try and finish this
beer now. Look what's going on. Every
time you look, something's happening.
Look, you got the Furka Over Palm
carriage stop being put away. They were
being pulled by an RHB logo, but I'm not
going to be pedantic. Um, still Swiss
train, which was good to see. And it's
quite since I was in there, they've put
quite a few coaching stock away.
It's all very fascinating.
Get nothing.
Oh,
he works.
What's up?
question
down there.
Sit down.
There we are.
I don't know.
Yeah.
It's like
Heat. Heat.
I'm up big on
Thank you.
Heat. Heat.
Let's
go.
Hey,
love this.
Hello.
Heat.
Well, this has been a very enjoyable
evening and it's not quite the end. Um
although it is pretty much the end of
this video because they're doing a
12-hour steam up and it's only quart 9.
So they've still got another 45 minutes
of steam to go. So there are still
passengers boarding to have their steam
ride. I've had two brilliant rides. I
had one behind that loco Mia. I think
the other locos's gone on shed. I think
we had well over a mile's worth of seven
and a quarter inch steam haulers.
They're just going round and round and
it's a fascinating circuit they've got.
Um, of course in the video I'm going to
put sort of it's developed. It's
evolved. It wasn't all um Oh, look at
that. There's a painted royal Scott on
the side. I didn't see that there cuz
there was a burger there earlier. So,
it's been a brilliant evening. Had some
nice food. Had a couple of good beers.
You know what what more could you ask
for? We've been playing driving around
on trains on this miniature road. got a
bit of a bank here. It's just been a
great evening. So, if you're in um in
Brussels, do come and visit them. Like I
said, it's very easy to get to. You just
got to get on tram route 82. Um I'm
going to leave you. I don't mean
anything to happen, but anyway, I've got
to go and catch a tram back because I've
got an early start tomorrow to go and
visit some more Belgium Heritage
Railway. So, it's been a brilliant
evening. So, thank you very much to
everyone. Thank you to all the
volunteers all been very friendly
showing us around. It's been great. And
if you're watching, do come and visit
them. Thank you very much. Please feel
like, share, comment, subscribe from a
park in Belgium with a brilliant mini
railway. Goodbye.
