People Are Dyeing Their Hair for Fall… and It’s Going Wrong

Have you ever looked at the leaves changing outside and thought, "My hair should do that, too." Hi, beautiful. Today, we're watching people attempt their own fall hair colors at home. From copper to auburn to some deep ass red shades. Don't let me down today, people, because I love red hair so much. I want this to work for you. Let's see how this goes. >> In honor of fall season, I'm going to be dyeing my hair a fall color. [music] I'm going to be dyeing it a copper ginger color. >> Wo! [groaning] Okay, we're doing a copper ginger moment. Fall has fallen, baby. It's a little spooky in here. I'm just curious. Why do we pick up 10 volume and high color? Cuz she has very dark hair. If we're trying to get this really bright copper, girl, you're going to need some more than 10 volume. Maybe 30, 40, something like that. We did a little shopping at Sally Beauty. I got 10 developers. >> I think the one tube will be plenty for you. You can never have too much color. You can never oversaturate color. I always say you can just put more and more on. [music] We want the hair to be coated. I got this little bowl and it comes a clip and it comes a little brush. I think there's gloves in there. It has this brush. It's very small, but this was like $4. So, has the dying brush, a clip. [music] Why do they only give me one? And I think this is gloves. And then the cup for the dye. You have to do it in like [music] non- metallic, non-metal plates and bowls and stuff. I hope it comes out the way I want. >> All right, we got all the tools and supplies. Was it the right stuff? Absolutely not. But whenever is it? >> I'm going to take out my hair. going to see what we're working with. My hair, there's a lot of gel on top. So, this is my hair. I kind of have a lot of hair. It's very thick. It's actually wet. I don't know if I have to dry it. The fact that there's just this [music] in there. There's no gloves, no instructions. This is the tent. This actually smells good. Why? Why do we always smell the developer and the bleach? Guys, somebody has to I mean, all of you have to let me know what is the the thing with smelling things. I know it's part of like an essential [music] human experience to sniff things, but it gets out of hand sometimes when we know it's a toxic chemical that you're definitely not supposed to sniff. Why do we want to sniff it? What do you want to know? If it smells good, why does it matter? It's just going to lighten your hair. You're not wearing it as a body fragrance. >> Hopefully, the 10 [music] gets me to where I want. >> That 10 is absolutely not going to get you even close to what you want. I would say 40 volume for you at least. Well, that's as far as you can go, but you know what I mean. I kind of blow dried my hair a little bit like in a bag. It was very um wet. I need like Does it need to be dry dry or can it be damp? Oh, this is what I was talking about. You can see the like the pieces [music] where I had bleached it. I bleached it and then I put brown box dye and [music] then it faded to like this light brown. >> I'm okay. I'm a little worried about your ends or you look a little fragile. But you're only putting ton volume over it, which is going to do [music] nothing to the top of your head and it's going to do everything to the bottom. The bottom is going to look great. It's going to be coppery because your hair is already pre-lightened. the top. Absolutely not. Not not going to get even close to what the bottom is going to get to. You're [ __ ] >> The lady said it won't take [music] on my hair. It's only going to take on like natural hair. But >> that's not true. It's going to absolutely take on all your hair. It's not just going to disappear. What the worker meant is that permanent hair color is best used on natural hair. So, just things that have not been colored before. Will it still color hair that has been pre-colored? Yes. It's a very confusing subject. Just leave it there. Okay. It's made to go over natural colored hair. I feel like because it's light, it should, right? Cuz it's like lighter than my hair. >> Correct. >> Okay. I'm not a professional whatsoever. Going to add my [music] This is called my high color. This is hard to do with one hand. So, I'm just going to like squeeze it and then I'll come back. >> Damn, that is bright. That is neon. All right, we are starting to apply that color and her hair strands are being fully [ __ ] saturated, [music] which I love to see. Also called FFS, fully [ __ ] saturated. Her hair is looking wet. And this is going to do absolutely nothing. So, we can fast forward through this because we already know this isn't going to work because it's 10 volume. [crying] It hurts me to watch you guys waste your money and waste your time like this. It really does. Here, I'll give you a little song while she keeps coloring. Let's waste our money. This is like what? 8 minutes, I think. >> Well, it's not going to matter if it's even because it's not going to do anything. >> So, I took a shower, rinsed off the hair dye. This is how my hair looks. Where's my color? [laughter] >> It didn't do [ __ ] besides color your ends. I'm so sorry I can't be there for all of you all the time. But that sucks. So much time, energy, everything wasted on this for no reason when I could have just told you right up front. That wouldn't going to work. >> Barely there. >> So this light part is because it was from the wolf dye thing that I tried and then I put my brown dye back in. Like where is my color? Anyways, middle of straightening it and I'm going to [music] wait like a week and I'm going to retry. >> You're going to wait a week? Why do it now? Fix it. You're going to what? >> I'm kind of annoyed cuz I really wanted this color [music] to work out. It's giving more like a red burgundy. >> The level of patience you have is up there, babe. I want to be able to wait a week. Hell no. >> I bought the products to redye my hair. Hopefully, it comes out right [music] this time cuz it was like $60 yesterday for the products. It was another 50 today. I should have just went to the salon, not me trying to save money and spending more than what I would have at the salon. >> Yeah, see, some of you all be wasting a lot of money doing your hair yourself. You just don't know enough about how to do hair and then you just end up spending so much money and you could have just went to the salon and got it done professionally. Unfortunately, >> I got [music] shampoo and conditioner cuz I had none. And then I got two more of the high color bottles [music] and then I got 30 developer this time. >> [ __ ] We're absolutely [ __ ] Okay. Could this do something to her hair? absolutely could do something. Will it do much? I doubt it. You're now putting color over color, which again, you're not really supposed to do. It's just not going to be nearly as effective as if you were to color your natural hair color. So, you've already gone and you color. You messed up your natural hair color. You got to bleach it now. You have no other choice now to bleach it. You get one chance to use permanent hair color over natural hair until it is then permanently colored, which then requires bleach to lighten it. So, the one that I had yesterday, I [music] got 10. So, today I'm going to do 30. I feel like 30 should be good. The recommended is 40. [music] >> Yes. Yes. This is all correct. But you already have colored hair. >> I watched this girl's video on YouTube. She was saying, she's a hair stylist. She was saying that 40 is more like it's not bleach per se, but it is like [music] it's giving bleach. >> I'm so over stimulated right now. I wish I could help her. >> I think I did it half. So, we'll start with the bottom. So, starting with the bottom. Should I already section it into thirds? [music] Okay, so I put a shirt on. Her hair is straight, so should be a little bit easier to dye. >> She's getting three sections in her hair, which is great. Love to see that she's doing some sectioning. >> So, this is how it looks. I'm about to put my gloves on and then I'm about [music] to start dyeing my hair and it better work this time. >> I hope that somehow this works. Sometimes color can lift color. It's not supposed to be done like that, but you can try. Sometimes people get lucky and their hair lifts. I really hope something happens. Honestly, this would be such a bummer if absolutely nothing happens again. All right. And she's putting this color roots to ends. She's not worrying at all about any hot roots. This is when you actually get hot roots where like it looks fire engine red at the root and then just kind of more of a natural tone red through the mids and ends because of that heat from the scalp. If you don't have that heat evenly distributed, you're going to get some burning hot [snorts] scorching roots. All right, we process. We hope for the best. So, maybe something will happen. Maybe not. I >> lowkey think I'm going to put it in a plastic bag. The heat is going to help process [music] a little bit. Or should I not? Cuz I also heard that if you put it in a plastic bag, your roots get lighter [music] faster. I'm just going to blow dry a little bit. You're killing me, babe. You're absolutely killing me. Do not blow dry your hair ever, guys. Don't ever blow dry your hair while the color is processing or the bleach. If you really want to blow dry foils, you can. I wouldn't recommend that either. It's just [music] never good to apply heat. Um, especially open air application like this of color, you're going to dry the color out. >> So, I'm going to wait like 10 15 minutes, wash my hair, and then we'll see how my [music] color came out. Better have came out good. So, this is how my hair came out. I'm trying to take this in right now cuz I'm really a ginger right now. Like a ginger head. Okay. So, it's very uneven. [music] The back is really dark still. Just the front and the roots lighted got light pretty easily. >> What the [ __ ] You got lucky, babe. That is crazy how much that lightened while already having colored hair. Oh god. Every week I say this, but like sometimes you guys do that is so wrong and it somehow comes out right that and it baffles me every time. >> I'm going to go shower, style my hair, and then I'll come back tomorrow to show [music] you guys how it looks. Okay, she's going to blow dry, straighten, and we're going to see the final results. Will it be even? I doubt it. I don't know. I have a lot of hope and then absolutely no hope at the same time right now. >> Hey guys, so it's been like probably like 3 4 days and I've been loving it. It's so cute and I think this color was made for me. Not to toot my own horn, but it looks really good. I'm obsessed with how it came out. Yo, what the I mean it it looked good curly, but the straight Oh, we could really see the color now. It looks gorgeous. Is there a few really orange pieces in there that I don't love? Yeah. I would rather it all be this kind of like almost grape red color. I don't know. Cherry Cola. Is that the one? That's the one. I see it. I love it. And oh my god, I don't know how you got that. A little bit of Xod 7R over everything would complete this look. It would bring all those really bright orange pieces down to the same level as the rest of the hair. Damn. Okay, I'm gonna have to give you a four on the mondo meter because everything kind of went wrong, but absolutely right at the same time. I am going to be coloring [music] my hair ginger. So, this is what I am currently [music] starting with. I'm actually really freaking nervous about this. I've watched so many [music] like tutorials and stuff, but I don't know if you ever feel confident to [music] do it. >> You go, girl. You got this, girl. You got it. I know you can do this, right? Come on. We're doing kind of a retouch moment on her regrowth and kind of giving life back to the hair. Give it that big copper daddy energy. >> So, I'm only going to do like the top part of my [music] head. Um, the bottom part of my head is like a level four dark dark dark brown. And the top was that same color, but I've been bleaching [music] it to lighten it some for this process. So hopefully it will turn out okay. I'm really nervous cuz there's like some dark like banding right there, but hopefully it's going to turn out. Yeah, I mean hopefully it's going to be fine. I just hope she's going to use a high enough developer to get this light and bright. >> I'm going to be using a few different colors. I'm going to use dark golden blonde, medium copper blonde, and dark rosewood blonde. >> Sorry, what what are we using? I don't know what the hell dark rosewood blonde is. 6RW. I'm guessing red warm. I don't know what the W is on that. Obviously, red is warm, but like what the [ __ ] is that? I don't get why you're using blonde in these formulas. Just use copper if you want to be copper. >> I'm not going to be using like full tubes of all. I have two bottles of the medium copper blonde cuz I want more of the copper color there. [music] >> So, I'm going to use mostly that. And then I'm just going to add like a splash of the other colors. >> Y'all, I love you. I really do. You guys are not hairdressers. So, just make it easy on yourself. Choose one color. Unless it's semi-permanmanent color. Yeah, go ahead. Mix that [ __ ] Have fun. But like permanent color, h there's so many factors that go into the result of a permanent color. Just pick one. You're never going to get the color you want anyways because you're not a real hairdresser. You don't know what the hell you're doing. >> And on my [music] like roots, probably like down to like here. >> Right. Right. >> I'm going to use [music] 20 volume developer. And on the ends, I'm going to use tin volume developer because the ends are lighter than the top. So, I want the top to lift more. Oh, that's a great idea. Yeah, this is such a hairdresser technique to use a higher developer on the darker parts of the hair and then a lower developer on the ends of the hair where it's already lightened. Totally. Just have to watch out for those roots. They might pick up higher than the rest of your hair because of the heat from your scalp. >> And hopefully it'll come out even. Hopefully. >> So, I'm going to go ahead and mix my color and section my hair and I'll be right back. So, the formula I [music] used was for my roots I did 20 volume and I used a full container of medium copper blonde, half a container of dark golden blonde, and a quarter of a container of dark rosewood blonde. I'm going to just speed through it so you don't have to watch me color my entire head. But I did want to have like a normal [music] speed for the first little part just so you can really see if this is the first time you're coloring your hair. So, I'm starting with the roots and I'm going to go around the entire area first. You'll see here in a second. Okay. A little I'm a little scared about her starting with the roots. I feel like they're definitely going to lift too bright. She's using a 30 volume directly on her roots before coloring anything else. These things are going to get bright. >> I'm just taking the color and literally going around the entire area that I sectioned out, only hitting the roots. >> I'm interested in how this section became a section. Like she has it sectioned from her middle part to kind of here and then this part, all the kind of sideburn area gets pulled back. Why wasn't that all one section? Why did we feel like dividing that? I mean, we're going in there and we are taking our time, babe. We got to get that on there. It is processing it. Immediately when it starts touching your head, it's going to go just running. It's just going to go so fast. Get it on there and get it on there quick. Now do all the rest of your roots. >> And then I'm sectioning off my next [music] part. I do go farther down than just the roots. I know I said this is my root color, but because I am starting with darker hair, I am going to go farther down than just the [music] roots. So I'm going to use same exact color that I was using for the roots to go all the way down. >> All right. I'd recommend just painting your roots with the brush and then go in with your hands and [music] just pull the color down and add more color. So much easier. >> Probably about halfway and [music] I'm going to stop and I'm going to do this on every part of my hair and on the ends, the blonder area that I lightened more. I'm going to use the other mixture that has the volume [music] 10 developer in it because I don't need that part to be lifted as much as I do the darker area, if that makes sense. All right, she is going through every section trying to get that nice and even. And so far, it does look pretty even. Though, she needs to go in with her hands. Even a professional would now go in with our hands. We would take our kind of our little scissor action right here and just go up and down on the hair and just try to squeeze that color in so [music] it touches every single hair strand. We're not usually just painting on and then just leaving it as is. No, we need to use our hands. That's why you always see a hair stylist with like a towel beside them or a towel hanging from their tray. It's that when we do this with our hands and get all that color in there, we then wipe it off and we go again and we wipe it off and we go again. >> I just go back in and where I stopped this color, I take the other color and put it where I didn't put this color, if that makes sense. So, the color is looking promising. Y'all got some [ __ ] going on today with these colors. Like things are working out for you. And I am like, "Oh, damn." I don't know what's happening, but I'm kind of enjoying it a little bit. The roots are looking [ __ ] bright and coppery. Love to see it because that's exactly what she wants. I'm going to put [music] um put a bag on my head and let it process for a minute and then I'm going to rinse it out and we'll [music] see how it looks. Okay, so it's the [screaming] next day and I wanted to show y'all the final result of my hair. This is how it turned out. I am out here in natural lighting so you can really see it. It turned out really pretty. I was hoping that the auburn color was going to be darker and that maybe it would blend better, which it is dark, but you can still kind of see the dark line. So, going into this, I knew that I needed to bleach that part of my hair again so that it would be more even and I wouldn't have a darkness on the sides, but I chose not to because time and whatever. So, I was just hoping being hopeful that it would cover it. Holy [ __ ] I wanted in the air today. I thought we had more to the video left, but damn, that was it. Like, she just bang apply that color. Damn, those results look amazing. I do see the dark band, though. She does have a a [music] dark band going through. It kind of bothers me a little bit, but it's not perfect, but oh my god, is it a whole lot better than what she started with? Yes. It looks so good that it almost looks like a hairdresser colored [music] it. Like, it's getting very hairdresser hair, which is a good thing. Like, they always have perfect hair. This color is sick. I love the dark underneath. The copper on top looks amazing and somehow you got this quite even. Let's give you a four on the monometer. The process getting to result was a little bit wonky, but the actual final result was beautiful. I've tried a lot of copper color conditioners and glosses, but today this one was recommended to me by one of you lovelies. It's the Xondo Color Super Gloss. It's a little different because it's a semi-permanent dye and a gloss mixed together. It actually gets your roots more. So, I do have a little bit of my light roots grown in. [laughter] It's time for a rodeo copper moment and I am so [music] excited for it. Great recommendation to whoever recommended to her. I mean, I love Xono Color. It's a great brand. She has the perfect palette to put semi-permanent color over, especially a super gloss color. It's a between the salon moment to revive your hair color. >> 7C, which that's the level of depth. That's the numbers. I believe I'm not a professional. I am an average Joe. >> That's also why we wrote 7 copper because I know you guys are not professionals, but like it's kind of fun. The little naming system is a good time and I wanted to give you a little taste of the professional experience [music] on the packaging. >> I'm hoping for some pretty good significant results. Just so that we can get a good comparison, here is my hair before. I also took videos in natural lighting and then we'll compare the after with the natural and this studio lighting. >> I mean, our hair looks delicious and gorgeous. It obviously is a little bit washed out and kind of a more muted copper tone. 7C is a very rich tone. She's going to have that rich, sexy hair after this. >> We've got a little bit of my light roots. You can see the bleach money streak, but it is a really nice color. And funny enough, in the last 12 hours, I've gotten two compliments on my hair color. I' been like, it looks really nice. So, hopefully this doesn't ruin it. Hopefully, this is just enhances [music] it. Makes it even better. >> Imagine if it ruins it. >> I'm just kidding. It won't. I promise. >> It's got a nice cap. Oh, it's full. That's a very full M. It does have a hint of Play-Doh scent, but there is like a perfumey The Play-Doh is an afterthought. It is like a nice perfume scent. I'm intrigued to see how it smells on the hair. >> Yikes. Play-Doh. >> I'll just leave this like this. Afraid to set this on my counter cuz I do not [music] want semi-permanent dye on my white counter. >> A quick little note here. Those little plastic tabs are made for shipping purposes. They're made to transport this product without leakage. So once you have it in your house, take that out, throw it away. Not need it. >> The things I already grabbed. We're going to pop on our gloves. I did grab this to [music] separate and like spread it, but now I'm thinking I should probably brush my hair out first. >> She's going to brush it. Wow, I love this. >> I'm going to section it. I'm going to start at the bottom and then I'm going to do the top. You're supposed to apply it to clean hair. Section it. You are required to use gloves. This one does say use gloves. And when I checked out at Sally, she asked, "Do you have a processing cap and gloves?" I was like, "Yeah, I don't have a processing cap." In my head, I was like, "Is that a shower cap? [music] What does that mean?" But this thing doesn't say you need a processing cap. Comb through evenly. Process for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. That's it. That's all it tells me. Caution. [music] This product contains ingredients that may cause irritation. Blah blah blah. I don't want to do that. Something about blindness. Wait. Oh, [laughter] it says this product must not be used for eyelashes or eyebrows cuz it can cause blindness. Let me brush out my hair first. I feel like brushing your hair is going to make it easier to apply because there's not going to be tangles. >> Absolutely. Brushing your hair before coloring is great thing to do. >> It's so glittery though. It's like a rose gold copper glitter. It literally looks like copper out of the ground. It's really pretty. I have under eye things on too, by the way. >> Of course, I have to put glitter in my products. It's ethically sourced micica to be clear. It's not actually glitter. But what are you going to do with a hair coloring experience that isn't fun? You know what I mean? Bring the good smelling fun color back and I'm doing it. >> It smells really good. Actually, there's not really a Play-Doh scent. [music] That was I don't know what that was, but I grabbed a big old dollop. And I'm starting on the ends cuz they're definitely more bleached. Very glad I brushed my hair before this. I don't know how much you need. It does smell like a really good perfume though. If you had blonde hair, like really light hair, cuz it said you could put this on light brown and light hair, you'd really need to be picky. I'm hoping because I already have a color underneath there, it's [music] forgiving. >> Totally. It will definitely be forgiving for you cuz you already have copper hair. If you don't put on super evenly, it's going to give you more of the copper highlights. Like, you know, if you miss spots, you have the backup of the copper existing. However, would I like for you to do this really evenly? Yes. Would I like for you to really saturate your hair? Yes. I also love that you don't really know me and you're trying. That makes me really happy that the brand is becoming beyond me, which is cool. >> Let's just keep applying it. I hope I can evenly spread it. I can already see it's definitely It's like more reddish. you get extra, it does just come out like conditioner. You know how if you get extra, you can squeeze it and the conditioner comes out. It's nice to apply. It feels like it's a conditioner. The way it's spreading, it's nice. >> I love that you love the consistency of it because we purposely made it on the thicker side. We also made it a little bit gelike so that it is really easy to distribute but doesn't get all over your bathroom. As you can see, she has a white counter. There ain't nothing on her counter, and that's because it's quite [music] thick. It doesn't drip off your hands like other colors. >> Okay. It brushes out nice. I was a little af Oh, there's one here. I was a little afraid it would rip and then I just wasn't going to brush it at all. I'm just going to leave it. >> Oh, I did just brush a chunk out on the counter. >> Perfect. >> Get that off. Okay. >> Eating my own words back up as the color drips right on her counter. Great. That one wasn't my fault, though. >> 15 minutes. You think that can develop faster? No. >> I am so happy. >> She's combing it through. This is literally what dreams are made of. This [music and singing] is what dreams are made of. >> I'm not kidding. This makes me so happy. >> I should be done in like 3 minutes. Everything's going to be covered in copper for one second and it's going to be fun. I'm going to do this and at the part I'm going to try and get those. I don't know what I'm doing here, guys. We're winging it. >> You're doing a great job. Everything at Mondo is built to be user [music] friendly by the average consumer. >> Can you see better now? Ow. The world's saying hurry. I've used about a third of it. I don't know if that's required. I don't know if I'm doing too much, but it's spreading well. Getting the top. I think I should have done the bottom first. Why did I do that? >> No, doing the bottom first was absolutely awesome. You're killing this whole process right now. And killing it, I mean like you're that's good. [music] Not like a murder, but like a you know what I mean? >> Let me spread some of this through the front. Make sure I have my length done. And then I'm going to do my [music] money piece. And I'm okay if it's still a little highlighted. I just don't want it blonde. That's why I want to do it last. I do appreciate for the video sense that this doesn't have to be done on shampooed hair. But in my routine, I prefer to add one of the conditioners in my shower. It's just so much faster. And then you don't have to wait 15 minutes either. [music] So, if this gets my roots though, that'd be pretty cool. Totally, totally, totally, totally. Using a conditioner color, like something that you use in the shower, is cool and all, but the treatment is not going to be as effective as if you were to use a hair mask on dry hair. You can really have that bomb booster, the hyaluronic acid, the proteins, [music] the oils, all latch onto your hair so much more effectively with dry hair. And plus, a 15-inute processing [music] time really allows all those ingredients to soak into your hair real good. >> If I can do it, you can do it, too. I don't like that. I really like the amount cuz I have long hair and I have probably a third. >> She only used a third of that jar, which is exactly how much she needs. It's perfect. We have this little visual of how many uses you get out of a jar. Usually about three for average length, average thickness hair. >> Time to scrub it up. For some reason, this being a semi-permanent dye is making me more nervous around it. And I did get it all over. So, just don't let it develop on your counter. You'll be okay. This is how much I used. Just a little bit over 1/2 left. >> I will say if you get any of my color on your counter, I have white countertops as well. If you spray pretty much any cleaning product on it, let it sit for a minute. It wipes right off. >> I do prefer the pumps and the squeeze tubes. I've said this before. I don't love dipping my hand in, but it works fine. >> It's interesting. Let me know if you guys like pumps better. It is way more expensive to make the jars. So, let me know if you don't like them. >> It was basically like washing out neon orange Kool-Aid with foam the whole time. Let me blow out my hair. I love it. Gorgeous. [music] Absolutely gorgeous. The color refresh incredible. The conditioning feel amazing. It is so soft. It was Ollex like deep conditioning. It was very luxurious. Even when I shampooed and conditioned, it was still soft. It felt like I had a nice treatment in it. You don't smell it because you do put your own shampoo conditioner products in it. >> She said it. She said Ollex like treatment and that is exactly right. There's bond booster in this product. Ollex is a bond boosting treatment as well. You heard what I'm saying here? So, ooh, love. >> I love this. You can tell the color is refreshed. This one is the most even, the most conditioning, plus the gloss. I think this is going to be my top favorite. The color picks up really well. Well, where I already have the dye, then we get to this part and it's just glossing. I think if you loved the color, you like the way your hair looks, but it's feeling a little dry, I would recommend this gloss. >> Wow, that looks just [ __ ] insanely incredible on her. If you really rock copper hair, it's actually unbelievable how good it looks on you. That blowout you gave yourself. Oh my god, this looks like a dream. Obviously, she's getting a five on the mono meter because holy [ __ ] you guys, that looks insanely good. >> I don't even know how to start a YouTube video, but ignore the sound of the vent. I'm about to bleach and dye my hair. And my experience is watching Brado. I see all his videos of the girls saying, "I watch Bondo videos and then they do it wrong and it ends up bad." Well, sometimes dance good, good. You know what I mean? [laughter] >> Yeah. What's up with that? Am I a bad teacher or is it you guys? >> I already sectioned off how much I'm going to do. I have this mirror. This is my section. I'm just going to do like this right here because I part my hair like closer to the middle. So, if I need to like hide it and slick back my hair, I can because this will be cover, you know. >> Okay. So, we're doing a half half color moment right now. And I am loving that so much. I cannot wait to see a little half half moment. I haven't seen it in so long. This is going to be really really cute on her. I have no idea what color she's doing yet, but hopefully it's bright. I want the color to be really contrasting with her natural hair color or whatever this color is. It might be colored, I don't know, but dark and light of some sort would be so pretty. Maybe a copper, maybe a bright red, maybe anything else. Be really cool. >> So, I the first thing I have to do is like mix up the stuff. So, I'm going to do that and come back. The one that I wanted, they didn't have. So, I ended up getting a different one. And it comes with an oil that you mix in with the bleach. Literally, it says take the cap off after you mix it cuz it might explode. >> Okay, so we're bleaching the hair. That means her hair has already been colored before because she's trying to lift out some kind of color out of her hair, I think. Otherwise, you could just go in with a permanent red color. If she doesn't already have color in her hair that she's trying to lift out, you can actually just color your natural hair color with permanent color and it can get really really bright. Unless she's trying to do light blonde, then that wouldn't work. You have to bleach it. >> The first thing I'm going to do is section those regular piece at the bottom. >> Everybody be like, I lost my mango videos and then grab big chunks. Obviously not, girl. >> Why is that in black and white and slow motion? Are we foreshadowing something? Are you going to take big ass clumps of hair and color it? You're supposed to listen to me. I thought I'm going to be really disappointed if you do this wrong. >> So, I'm only going to like right here, leaving the rest out. And so, I have like a gingerish brown box dye over my naturally brown hair because I thought like I don't know. I don't know what I thought. >> Okay, a lot happened already in just that little clip. So, she is applying this bleach and it is so watery, which sometimes it can be fine, but oftentimes if you do not have enough bleach on the hair, it is not going to process light enough. And I don't want it to see your entire hair strand under the bleach. I want it to be a thick coating. I want to barely be able to see the hair strand underneath. The other thing she just said was she has already copper I think she said copper over her hair. So, if she's trying to go blonde, this is not going to be cute. The copper underneath your hair is going to lift orange as hell and you're going to be in for a treatise. >> Still not enough, but it is fully saturated. >> She did say it's fully saturated, so I'm going to trust and believe even though it looks dry as hell. Trusting and believing. >> I know these aren't the smallest sections, but I feel like if Brad Mondo could see this, he would be proud of me for doing smaller sections than everybody else. >> I'm satisfied with these sections. Also, I love you guys so much. I love when you talk to me in your videos. I think these are small enough sections. You are definitely working that very liquidy bleach into [music] small enough pieces that it'll actually cover the hair strand. Again, I just don't know why it looks so uncodated. That's a little confusing to me. Like there looks like to be nothing on [music] the hair strand. The next step you can take is combing the bleach through. This would be very simple to comb from the bottom up. You can comb bleach through. I know it sounds a little scary. Just don't comb it after it's already been processing. You know, your weak hair strand will not be happy with you and it will break off if you pull too hard. So just be careful with that. We are working our way up the back of the head getting those hair strands all covered. And she is going in there. Hopefully she doesn't get lazy by the top [music] of her head because that often also happens where people like do a really good job on the back and then all of a sudden the front looks like a Brad Mondo says people are always like you shouldn't brush your hair when you have bleach in it. But like in my head it makes sense to want to brush it because obviously you want to make sure everything is fully saturated. Brad says he does when he's doing people's hairs. So I'm just going to listen to him. My hair has gotten pretty long. >> That is fabulous. She said she's going to brush it. When are you going to brush it though? When are we going to do that? Because you're already working through the sections and you haven't brushed anything yet. >> I feel like this is going pretty fast [music] and when you're bleaching. That's why I didn't want to do my whole head because I was like, I am not that quick. >> Guys, I can't wait to come out with bleach. I'm a little scared just because you know what you guys do with bleach. But I'm really excited and I have been developing it for a very long time. Don't [ __ ] up your hair with it, please. >> [music] >> once I come out with it. Okay, I wish you guys could use money in these videos already. This stuff, sure, it's fine. It'll do the job, but will it actually be like bleach that won't ruin your hair? Now, the thing she has to watch out for is that she has fine thin hair. So, fine, thin hair, first of all, lightens very well and easily, and usually you can get a pretty even coverage without having to try that hard. So, hopefully that happens for her. But the other thing is it can be also fragile, though. So, she's about halfway done with coloring this first section. And the color has not budged at all. It is still the exact same brown color it started with. Why is that? Are we using bleach or are we using something else? What the hell is going on here? >> Ooh, that's lightening fast, girl. >> Oh, [gasps] this is actually lightening. I love when hair lightens. It's so much fun. It looks like it lightened a half a shade or a full shade lighter. You smell that? I smell bleach processing and I'm loving it. It hasn't even been 10 minutes since I started. I don't want to lay the bleach over a part that hasn't been touched or that I don't want to touch yet because [music] that's how mistakes happen and we get crazy results. [laughter] >> I love you. >> You are saying things that are true. I love people listen and do the truth. Mhm. >> And I have those freaking pens on because the feelings of this pass out. >> You are going slow, girl. This is the other thing with hair, guys. You got to work fast. If you want it to be really precise, obviously you're doing it at home, so it's never going to be like perfectly precise. But if you want it to be really good, as good as possible, you got to work on those sections as fast as possible. And I also know you're filming a video. It's a lot of things involved with filming a video. This is a random thing that I want to bring up today just because [music] like I have your attention. Hi. Um, but that can you believe after all these years of me doing these videos and content online about hair, people still don't think that I'm a real licensed hairdresser? First of all, it's public information. I can't even make it up. You can literally call the state board. >> Hi, Brad have a license. >> Yes, he does. Okay. Also, do people really think I can make this up? Being a licensed hairdresser doesn't mean you're a good hairdresser. [music] Okay. It just means you are licensed with the state board and approved to use these chemicals on people. I just can't believe that lie just has spread over the years and just keeps going. It's probably because I don't really defend myself ever because I'm like, what am I defending? I literally have been in a salon since I was born. Born in a salon. Literally birthed on the floor of salon. All I know is hair. [laughter] That's all I'm good for. >> How is this like container supposed to be for a full head of hair? I'm not even doing half of my head and I feel like I don't have enough. >> Yeah, box colors are tricky. To do an entire head realistically, you need a [ __ ] ton of bleach. Box size in a lot of ways do make it easier for you to do your hair yourself because there's steps you follow and it's very easy simplified way of putting everything together [music] so you can just buy everything at once without having to think about all the additives and things, whatever is going on. But often times you need more than one box. Okay, they're not very expensive. >> I bought another product to style my edges. Oh my god. Please never detangle your hair like that ever again. You have fine, fragile hair. You are going to lose an excessive amount of hair by brushing it like that. Don't ever ever brush it like that. And if you do, bore, synthetic, bore, anything like that. Something that is just really going to be gentle on your hair. And never yank it like that. I hate watching you guys do that so much. Oof. >> And it is a wax. So, I used that to slip this down and to do my edges. I know I shouldn't have used the wax on that side just like that. But I don't know if my hair is not thick enough for wax and I should just stick with monkey gel because that is like it works good. But I just wanted to try something else. >> All right, she is finishing coloring the top of her hair. Getting all that product in there nice and evenly and I love to see it. It is making me so happy. I don't know if you can see that it's like starts right there where it gets lighter. Okay, this is my last section and then I'm going to go in and make sure everything else is fully saturated already. I love you. You really know what I'm going to say. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. It's weird. Some of these like liquidy bleaches are so watery but somehow do the trick. I don't really understand it. Even while I'm formulating my own bleach, like I'm I'm always wondering like some of these benchmarks we test. I'm like, how is this so watery? She's brushing it through. She is fully brushing the bleach through. I know that she is a real fan. Like, she knows my She has watched and been devoted to these videos for a very long time because that is a newer tip that I've been adding in is like the brushing the bleach through and I love to see it. Just got to be careful now. We can't we can't take the bleach off of our hair and if it comes off in the brush, we got to reapply it. Okay. Just be a little gentler. Okay, I'm going to leave this on for like 30, 45 minutes. We'll see. And then I'll be back [music] to do my roots. This is after like 20 minutes maybe. >> Why is that dry as a bone? Like it is so damn dry. What is going on here? It looks like nothing is on your hair. It looks like your hair is wet and it has barely done a single thing. This is the first section that I did. You can see that part is super light. >> Why does the hair devil choose our greatest players? Like she did such a good job yet she used just like the wrong bleach. That [ __ ] bleach looked like ass. I'm not going to [ __ ] lie. That looked like I was trying to be nice earlier but like I was like maybe it'll work. No, it looked like [ __ ] It was so [ __ ] dry and watery. Like never use [music] that again. I don't know what happened cuz she did everything right and somehow it just dried out immediately. [music] Like was it expired? Was it like was it you? Was it the brand? I don't know. I'm pissed. She seems fine. I I don't know. >> Okay, it's been like another time that they shortened the pencil. Oh, it kind of looks like it is getting out. Okay, correct. Here. Oh. Um, okay. And now it won't stop. I'm just going to do this first so I can get some more on this side. >> So, we're now going on the roots. [cough and clears throat] Horrible. I hate that idea. The mids and ends have not lightened like barely at all. Remember, we're trying to get the hair to a bright yellow tone before we go in with the roots. The roots pick up like that. Especially with this, this is like 30 volume in that. That is a high developer to put on your roots. You really don't need something that high. 20 volume will be fine. [music] They might even be 40 volume that you're putting on your roots. I don't know what is in that bottle to be honest with you. And then go for my roots. So that [ __ ] noise is killing my ears because that just means she has no color left and she does not have enough to actually color her roots properly. What the actual [ __ ] >> Oh, this is the part where Yeah. [laughter] >> She just got all that color on the opposite side of her head. That's not good. She wiped it off, but it'll still process. She's going to have a spot there. trust. Wait, the hair is all of a sudden getting bright. What? Right before my eyes, things are going right. I don't know. My head is throbbing because I don't know what is happening. >> I can't really part my hair though. >> So, you're supposed to part it again the way you parted it previously. You started from the bottom, you worked way up. You're supposed to do it again. Work from the way up from the bottom and just do the roots this time. And then from this, I want to pull apart the hair instead of making it fly because I want everything to be able to breathe. I wish I had more so I can add it there. But [laughter] she's making me so happy though. [music] She's like, "Let me pull apart the hair so it can breathe." Absolutely. to get that airflow in there so it can really breathe [music] and everything can process the same lightness instead of some things being lighter because there's mounds of hair packed over it. Okay, we don't want that. >> I'm going to let that sit for another probably like 20 minutes, rinse it, and come back to show you guys dye it. This is the color. >> You said you learned from me, babe. And you did learn a lot from me, but why do we have permanent color going over bleach? I'm 90% sure there's permanent color. I have never seen any nice and easy demi-permanmanent or semi-permanmanent. So hopefully this is the first. >> Okay, I just washed the bleach out of my hair. I wasn't too worried about like getting my roots that good because the color that I'm doing is going to cover anyways. >> Oh no. Why is it dark on the ends and orange in the center, orange in the middle? The roots, I don't even know. Spotty. We did too much work for it to look this bad. >> I'm blonde as you can see. Um, I definitely got some hair over here, but doesn't matter. >> Oh, the back. The spot on the back. Yikes. Oh, it's just really bad. See, even if you wipe the bleach off, you're still going to have that process. You have to literally shampoo it out. And even then, it might still live. Once that bleach touches your hair for 5 seconds, you're fine. So, I'm going to cover it with the color, and no one's going to be able to see that part in my head. Anyways, I know down here, like from here down is darker than the rest, but again, don't really care. >> Great. I mean, I care. But at least you're doing, [music] I think, a red color, like a copper color. So, hopefully this is going to even out a little bit. Um, and also, you can see the line of demarcation where her previously colored hair was [music] and her natural hair starts. It's like natural and then it's like previous box color. >> I know down here, like from here down, is darker than the rest, but again, don't really care. And my roots are not like perfect, but again, don't care. Oh, I'm like squeezing it and nothing's coming out. Duh. And my roots are not like perfect, but [laughter] again, don't care. Why would we use permanent color? You can, but we just don't need to. Demi-permanent would have been perfect for [music] this situation. You don't need all that grippy grip strength from that developer. That's going to inflict a bit of damage on your hair that is completely unnecessary and avoidable because permanent color is much more gentle and conditioning and it'll still stick to your hair. It has already been bleached. All right, she is coloring a whole section with I think this copper color. I haven't really I forgot what the [music] box color looked like but think copper which is fun. Okay, fall vibes. We're getting into it. And she's doing a great job applying to every single hair strand getting it nice and even. She's trying to fix her mistake with the bleach transferring to the other side by putting red color over the other side. This is going to lift her natural root area. So, she's going to have red roots on one side and then completely red on the other. Don't do that. Color it brown again. What? This has been in my hair for like 30 minutes probably. Um, I'm going to erase this as best as I can and then take this out and rinse all of it and I'll come back after. This is the final result of my little project. I really like it and I think it did damage my curls just a little bit as you can see. Like some pieces like this one is way looser, but that's okay. I really like how it came out. >> Do you see my eyes right now? Can you see my eyes? I'm tearing. [music] What the [ __ ] How did her hair just become a man of luxurious curls? I don't even know what to say, guys. This looks perfect. This looks beautiful. I am obsessed [music] with the color combination. and she kind of has this like purpley brown tone on the other side and then she has kind of this copper tone on the opposite and it looks amazing. Obviously, you actually dug through it as a hairdresser, you'd see some [ __ ] upness going on, but overall this is your look. You look incredible. This is perfect look. I can't say enough good things. You look like an angel. Everything about this, your makeup, your hair, the vibes, everything goes together. This look is so much better for you than that original one you had with just the all the brown hair. pretty as well, but kind of boring for you. You look just so cool and this just gives you a whole new vibe. Mondo meter out. For this, I had to give you a four. The end result was incredible, but getting there, not so much.
