Video summary

The video explores the often surprising phenomenon where a narcissist, after devaluing and discarding a partner for a new source of supply, unexpectedly returns. While many assume that moving on with someone else signifies a permanent break, the transcript explains that narcissists can undergo a complete reversal due to their insatiable nature and short attention spans. They are constantly seeking new adventures and people to satisfy their need for novelty, meaning they rarely find lasting fulfillment in just one relationship. Consequently, if their current situation fails to meet their high expectations or begins to feel dull, they may abruptly abandon the new partner and circle back to the old supply, often catching victims off guard with this sudden reappearance. Several psychological drivers push a narcissist back to an ex-partner once the novelty of a new relationship fades. The first is nostalgia; despite lacking deep emotional attachments, narcissists can experience intense longing triggered by familiar scents, songs, or memories of past excitement, causing them to idealize their former partner again. The second factor is a lack of sufficient attention from the new supply, which leads to disappointment and a desire to return to the comfort and validation previously received. Thirdly, the pursuit of power and control plays a major role, as narcissists may return simply because they believe they can manipulate or dominate an ex-partner more easily than a new one. Additionally, their strong desire to win drives them back if they perceive that moving on has challenged their ego or made them feel insecure about their ability to control situations. Ultimately, the primary reason for this return is often boredom and the absence of novelty in the new relationship. The transcript describes new partners as potentially vague, bland, or difficult to manipulate, which quickly becomes irritating to a narcissist who craves constant stimulation. When the immediate chemistry and emotional charge fade, they view the old partner as a reliable source of excitement and a "drug" that reignites their initial rush. This dynamic allows them to take reckless risks, such as causing harm or drama, because they are convinced they can always win you back later. The video concludes by emphasizing that these returns are rarely about genuine love or redemption, but rather a strategic move to reclaim dominance, satisfy an ego, and escape the monotony of a relationship that no longer serves their needs.

Once this takes place, the narcissist will return back to you. The narcissist may have left you for the new supply. They devalued you, discarded you. They said all of these horrible things about you. Then they took off thinking the grass was greener on the other side. And they were so sure about it. But although this is less talked about and less common because of the reasons I'm about to get into, in some situations, the narcissist can do a complete 180. They can return right back to the old supply. And this can often be a sudden surprising event that you never would have seen coming. Just out of the blue, they show up after everything. They come back to you. And you may have heard people talking about this online or of how even when they move on with a new supply, it still doesn't work out. So, you may be waiting, wondering when is the narcissist going to come back to you. It does depend on the situation, and there are things that prevent them from returning. They know they did you dirty. They know they did you wrong. And they know it's not going to be easy for them to amend the wrongs they did to you even though you may be forgiven because they know that they took it too far. So they continue with a new supply. But that doesn't mean that things are going well. It just means that this situation is serving them better. that it would be with you. And this is why they like to stall out time and let things drag out to where they will let you have that space and absence from them while they are aggressively seeking out new sources of supply. But for you, months or even years are going by and you're still seeing them with this new supply while you're just waiting. and may be hoping that they will eventually return because they're very focused and deeply concentrated on anything new. They're drawn to new adventures, new people, new situations, things they don't know anything about. It satisfies their short attention span. It keeps them occupied. But they are insatiable. So they're never going to be satisfied from just one person. There's not going to be just one person or situation that's going to satisfy them. They're always going to be looking for the next best thing. But many times they don't always make the right decision when they do leave. A lot of times these are forced, rushed moves. They just know that they can't be around you anymore. So they run off to the next situation and try to manipulate and finesse the best out of that situation. Which means that a lot of times these aren't even planned. It's not even thought out. So it's not that they're really in love with this person or that this person has managed to be an upgrade from you. It may be that they just couldn't achieve the type of results that they wanted with you. or they couldn't sustain it. Maybe they messed up things with you. But sometimes they may end up ditching the new supply, the person who you thought they were going to be with in a situation that you thought wasn't going to change because on the outside it looks encouraging and as though it is likely to succeed. If you're new here, please give this video a thumbs up as it helps to support my work. And let me know in the comments down below. Are you still with the narcissist? Has the narcissist moved on from you? Let me know what is going on in your situation. And now let's get into the reasons of what makes a narcissist return back to the old supply. Because believe it or not, while narcissists may not be sentimental or develop strong emotional attachments, they can actually experience nostalgia. They can reminisce. They can long endure for past experiences. And they may even have certain triggers such as a familiar scent, listening to an old song, or looking at our childhood photographs. And they can even reidalize you. They can remember the fun they once had with you. They can remember the thrill, the excitement, and there may be specific things about you that made them feel better than with other sources, which can cause them to apparently admire you and love you excessively, placing you back on the pedestal after they may have previously disrespected you. And a lot of this may be due to them seeing you moving on with your life, looking happy. and maybe some time has passed and they start thinking about the times when they were with you and how they felt, but it's only about how you made them feel. And when you make them feel a certain way, this is something they may regularly think about, especially when their situation with a new source is not going as they might have expected and it's not meeting their expectations. Now all of a sudden they start missing the comfort, control and validation that they receive from you and this is what causes them to reidalize you. It makes them fantasize and think about you more. It makes them start looking at your social media because now they're trying to get information out of you. The second reason is the lack of attention or validation from their new supply. Narcissists thrive on admiration and attention. So, if their new partner isn't providing them with the level of attention or admiration that they desire, they may end up despising them until they end up pulling away from them. And that doesn't necessarily mean that something is wrong with a new supply. It's just that nobody can stay at 100% all the time. There's always going to be times when we're tired or when we just need some alone time or when we just don't want to do what they want to do. So, there's always going to be some letdowns and disappointments with that new supply at some point and the narcissist will become discontented and that is the moment when they will start thinking about the old supply or another supply. that typically made them feel the opposite of how they were feeling in that moment. And if that just so happens to be the moment when you reach out to them or when they reach out to you and you respond to them and you're fueling the flame, you're giving them the admiration and attention that they crave. You're being this nostalgic version of the old supply that you were to where they once felt comfortable and secure. Then the pull towards you and away from the new supply becomes much greater. And at that point, the narcissist may consider fully re-engaging with you and even ending things altogether with a new supply. But once that moment has passed, are they no longer feeling disappointed or they're no longer desiring anything from you? it loses its effects because their emotions shift and change from one moment to the next. It's really just a small window and even then they may later experience regrets or buy his remorse even if it was their decision to return to you. So, it's not always as simple or as cut and dry as them just coming back and then everything being good again. There are ways to keep a narcissist engaged over a longer period of time, but that's for another video. The third reason is power and control. Because narcissists see relationships in terms of control and dominance, they may return to you because they know they can manipulate or control you a lot more freely than their new partner. They may believe that they can influence your thoughts or behavior or that they can direct how things are going to go. And that is often a huge factor in whether or not they decide to return to you. But it may not be because they're committed to being with you. It may be that they just want to keep their options open just in case their new supply falls apart. And that is why they may be checking in on you or reaching out to see how you're doing. They're doing that just to keep you in the loop, to give you a false sense of hope. It doesn't mean that they're really looking to amend anything in a serious way. It's just to keep you around. If it means that they can get you to hold on to them, they may act like they missed the old times or they may say that they were thinking about you, but it's often just a way for them to still have power and control in your life. The fourth thing is their strong desire to win. If you have moved on and they can see that you have gained a sense of independence and they can see that you are making choices for yourself outside of what they might think about it and outside of their control, but also to where it might make them question if you're doing it for someone else's approval or intention. It can make them feel insecure or as though they might be missing out on something. So they may return in an attempt to reclaim what they feel they lost, but it's really just to assert their dominance over you. They just want to feel like they're more important, strong, or successful than anyone else with the same type. They just want to prove to themselves that they can still control you and the situation because that is a major rush to a narcissist. It confirms to them that they are as good as they thought they were. It tells them that they can have you whenever they want to have you back. But this is why they don't even appear to worry, stress, or get nervous when they appear to make a big mistake or cause problems for you. And when they're taking a big risk to leave you, and you might know about it, they're not even worried about it because they feel that they can get you back whenever they want you. They feel that you cannot resist them, that you are weak to them. So they may often deliberately do things that may be reckless and damaging to you, causing you immense suffering or harm because they already know that the rush, the high is going to be so much greater by them doing that once they finally decide to bring you back because they feel like they can have you back anytime that they want. And then it's just going to confirm their superiority and importance far more than if they didn't do something so destructive before leaving you so they don't sweat it. They'll take a risk on possibly losing you or on possibly ending things for good. Because while it may be a gamble and there may be a huge risk involved, the reward is so great. So you see how a lot of times this actually is a projection because it is them who can't resist. It is them who will destroy everything they once had with you just to then pull you back in so that they can feel powerful. But they assign this trait to you and they see it as though you're the one who can't resist them. The fifth thing is that the new source isn't as fulfilling. The new source may just be vague and bland. There's nothing about them that's clearly expressed or stated. There's no real taste, character, or exciting features. And it may just be dull and boring for the narcissist because there's no real interest or energy. And a big part of this might be that the new source isn't easily manipulated or they don't cater to the narcissist ego the way that you did. So there's really nothing in it for them. They're not really getting anything out of it. So they will get bored really fast and they will get dissatisfied really fast. The new source will begin to irritate the narcissist even though they may not be intending to. But for the narcissist, it's like an itch they can't scratch because the new source doesn't feel how the narcissist might want them to feel and things aren't panning out how they might have intended it to. So, it's going to arouse conflict or disinterest and if they have an opportunity, they will return really quick and it's usually because the new source is not going for the manipulation. So, in this type of situation, the narcissist will return to you pretty quickly. If you're open to them returning and it's easy and accessible and they have the means to do so, they're not going to stick around where they don't have enough influence to control and manipulate the new source of supply. They want to get to a source where they have the advantage, where they have a circumstance or position that helps them to succeed or that gives them a better chance than others and where they can use a situation well or treat someone unfairly for their own gain. and where they have a lot of control. They do not want to be in a situation where they are at a disadvantage, where they are inconvenience, or where they have fewer tools, skills, or favorable circumstances than others. So again, these are the five reasons why the narcissist may ditch the new supply and return back to you. A lot of this is to do with boredom and the lack of novelty. They eventually lose interest in predictable patterns or routines where they already know what the other person is going to do or say because they've seen it or heard it already a 100 times before. Nothing drives a narcissist away quicker than that. Anything that they've already experienced or that they've already learned or figured out, it's dull. It's boring. It's old because they crave excitement and novelty. So if the new supply loses their spark, that immediate sense of chemistry, mutual excitement or emotional and physical attraction, the narcissist is out of there at that point. They will return to you simply to reignite that initial chemistry and that feeling, that rush. Because people are like a drug to narcissists and you gave them a certain spark, a certain charge, while other people don't give them that. Maybe they're tired. They've been through the ringer one too many times before, too many hardships or tests. So now they're exhausted. Maybe they're battling betrayal trauma. Maybe they're struggling to heal. whatever it may be, they don't do it for the narcissist like you do. They don't make them feel how you make them feel. And so, as long as you're open and accessible and there is an opportunity for them to come back, then why wouldn't they consider you? It's really just a matter of time until the new supply goes stale. I hope this video was helpful for you today. If it was, please give it a thumbs up.
