Video summary
Nintendo has recently made a series of impressive announcements that span from upcoming game tests to major casting news for their live-action film franchise. A significant highlight is the network test invite released by Dust Bloods, allowing approved subscribers to pre-install and prepare for an August 18th release date at 6:00 AM Pacific time. While specific details about the game remain under wraps due to potential NDAs, this early access offers a unique opportunity for players to provide feedback on online connections and bugs before the official launch. Simultaneously, Square Enix's *Octopath Traveler* team has acknowledged the incredibly high expectations surrounding its third installment following the franchise's eight-year anniversary; producer Tomoya Asano emphasized that while no concrete details are available yet, the developers refuse to release anything half-baked given the series' massive success and expanded HD-2D style.
The excitement continues with confirmed dates for *Final Fantasy VII Rebirth*, which will be showcased at Gamescom's Opening Night Live on August 25th by director Naoki Hamaguchi, guaranteeing a reveal of its Switch version during that event. In the realm of cinema, Sony and Nintendo have revealed key casting details for their upcoming *Legend of Zelda* movie, with Uli Latukefu confirmed to play the villain Ganondorf in what appears to be part of a potential trilogy. The cast also includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, Imbo Bragason as Princess Zelda, Deakin Lachman as Impa, and Yvonne Strahovski as an unnamed queen character. Tragically but notably, reports suggest that the late actor Sam Neill may have been cast in a role likely depicting King of Hyrule, marking what could be his final film performance before passing away last month.
On the financial front, Nintendo's latest quarterly report reveals extraordinary sales figures for its new console and software library. The Switch 2 has shipped over 3.82 million units in just thirteen months, officially becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo platform ever by surpassing historical records set by the GameCube and Wii U. This hardware success is driven by robust global demand, with the Americas leading shipments at 1.22 million units alone. Software performance matches this momentum, as *Super Mario Party Jamboree* has joined the list of million-selling titles on the new system, while *Pokémon Pokkén Tournament DX* nearly reached five million units sold in just four months when combining Japanese and international figures.
Beyond these headline numbers, specific third-party and first-party titles are demonstrating remarkable longevity and speed; for instance, *Mario Kart World* has become the second-fastest-selling title in its franchise history after only one year of sales. Other notable performers include *Kirby Air Riders*, which shipped nearly two million units in eight months, and *Nokigoman*, approaching a five-million-unit milestone. While Nintendo's standard Switch hardware shipments saw a decline compared to last year, the overall trajectory suggests sustained consumer interest well into 2027, with forecasts predicting total sales exceeding 158 million units by March of that year. These combined achievements underscore a period of unprecedented growth and stability for the company across both its legacy and next-generation platforms.

Well, folks, we're giving away a switch
too. You can enter through the link down
in the pin comment or the description.
The only requirement is to be subscribed
to the channel. We got some stories to
get to today about Nintendo. So, first
off, hey, Dust Bloods has put out their
invites for the network test and say if
you were approved and everything. We're
going to talk about that. We got a
little bit on Octopath Traveler 3?
What? We're already talking about that?
Yes, we are. We know the next time we're
going to see Final Fantasy VII
Revelation, which yes, folks, if you
didn't know, it's coming to the switch
too. Oh, by the way, the movie cast, a
lot of the main characters for The
Legend of Zelda movie have now been
reported by Deadline according to their
sources and I got to say I kind of like
the picks and one particular pick
I'm a little emotional about it. We'll
we'll talk about that.
More than that though, we have the
Nintendo financial results. We got to go
over all of that because there's just a
lot of crazy stuff happening. All right.
Let's go ahead and get into the first
report here and look, this is just about
the Dust Bloods. So, they're doing a
like network test and we don't really
know a ton about this game even though
they did finally show it again to
announce the network test. Yeah, it was
weird. It was like a first come, first
serve. I signed up not knowing what was
going to happen and yeah, here's my
literal thing. You don't It's not an
email you get. You go to their website.
You got to make sure you're logged in
and then you go to the account section
and that's how you find out if you made
it. So, selection results, you were
selected to participate and if you were,
it'll say thank you for your application
game data and download codes will begin
to be distributed on August 18th, which
is a Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. Pacific time
and then please return to the site after
that time. So, obviously, that's not
when the network test begins, but you
can pre-install and get ready to go. So,
that's going to be really exciting one.
I want to give them some good feedback
on anything going on, you know, with the
online connections and any bugs I see,
but I also want to just try the game out
and let you guys know my experience with
it assuming that I'm allowed to show any
footage. We don't know the if there's
any restrictions here. Obviously, if
there's any NDAs, yeah, people are going
to post stuff anyways. I'm not going to
violate the NDA. I don't think that's
disrespectful. I feel fortunate that I
even get to test this game and try it
out. So,
really looking forward to that one and
seeing what it's all about. Now, we're
going to go ahead and get to our next
story and this one is interesting.
Octopath Traveler 3 came up in this
interview. Uh so, it says the Octopath
Traveler team doesn't have anything to
announce quite yet, but it's aware of
the sky-high expectations for Octopath
Traveler 3, Team Asano says. So, let's
go ahead here. So, Square Enix's
Octopath Traveler franchise celebrated
its 8-year anniversary in July. Talking
to Dengeki Online a commemorative
interview, the series' core development
members, including producer Tomoya
Asano, recently addressed Octopath
Traveler's future. With the 8-year
milestone having passed and the 10-year
anniversary already in sight, Asano says
his team fully aware that anticipation
for the Octopath Traveler 3 is
incredibly high. However, somewhat
apologetically, he says there is nothing
he's able to share at the moment. We
generally feel fans' expectations. I
just want to convey that. Asano also
adds that given how much the scope of
the HD-2D style has expanded and the
strong performance of Octopath Traveler,
which has sold over 7 million units so
far, his team strongly feels that it
cannot simply release something
half-baked. He and the rest of the
developers agree that if we're going to
do it, we're going to push the limits.
Suggesting that a potential sequel will
be even more ambitious in its scale and
concept, which is wild to me. Uh they
ask fans to keep looking forward to what
comes next. On a side note, when it
comes to other multimedia developments
in the Octopath Traveler series, such as
novelizations and the TRPG adaptation,
the developers say they're eager to hear
what fans would like to see made.
They're welcoming in those ideas. So,
yeah, you can put the ideas down in our
comment section. But, obviously, uh I
don't know if they're going to see that.
You maybe spam them on socials. Of
course, spamming them I also think is
quite annoying. Might get you a blocked
or ignored, I don't know. But, whatever.
You know what we don't have to worry
about being blocked or ignored?
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Because,
folks, we know when we're going to see
it again. Get locked in, everyone. It's
happening at Opening Night Live. Game
director Naoki Hamaguchi is going to be
presenting Final Fantasy 7 Revelation at
Gamescom Opening Night Live on August
25th, right? Now, it's not necessarily
going to be at the beginning of the
show. It's like a 1-hour or 2-hour show.
Either way, 11:00 a.m. Pacific, 2:00
p.m. Eastern, 7:00 p.m. BST, 8:00 p.m.
CST. This literally guarantees that I
will be live streaming Opening Night
Live. Although, I typically do that
anyways. But, yeah. Pretty cool stuff.
I'm really excited for that. Uh guys,
we're not done, dude. We got some good
news. The good news keeps coming. And
this time, it's about The Legend of
Zelda movie.
Uli Latukefu lands the villain role of
Ganondorf in Sony and Nintendo's Legend
of Zelda movie. I think he played young
The Rock, you know, Dwayne The Rock
Johnson in a in a movie. He's done some
other stuff as well. So, Australian
actor Uli Latukefu, again, I'm probably
butchering this, has landed a major
role. He'll play the lead villain
Ganondorf in the Legend of Zelda, Sony
and Nintendo's live-action feature film
based on the popular video game, sources
have confirmed to Deadline. Ganondorf is
a powerful warlock king driven to
dominate the protagonist Link and
Princess Zelda's kingdom of Hyrule. We
hear Latukefu inked a multi-picture deal
here, which kind of just confirms what
I've been thinking about The Legend of
Zelda film this whole time. They're
looking to probably make this like a
trilogy of sorts. Uh maybe more. I have
no idea what the long-term plans are
beyond that. But, look, guys, this is
going to take us through probably the
next decade of of of Zelda movies,
right? So, here we go. Coming back in.
Uh as previously announced, the leads of
the project are a pair of up-and-comers.
Imbo Bragason is playing Zelda with
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.
Castings for the Zelda temple have been
closely guarded. The Deku is the first
to emerge since Nintendo announced the
film's leads last July. Reps for Sony
couldn't be reached for comment on that
casting. Sony first announced it would
distribute and team with Nintendo to
co-finance the Zelda movie in fall of
2023. Now,
this is all fun, this is all games, this
sounds all cool. The reporting doesn't
stop there because they have multiple
reports and that's why we go over to VGC
who combined it all together. So, we
know about Ganondorf. Let's go down. The
publication also stated that Deaken
Lachman, who plays Miss Casey in
Severance, will play Zelda's guardian
and mentor Impa, which is something we
technically saw with leaked footage last
year, but still really nice to just I
guess have a double confirmation on
that. Uh but here's where we get some
new stuff we didn't know. Yvonne
Strahovski, which is from The Handmaid's
Tale, will also appear as a queen
character, I'm guessing. Queen of
Hyrule, perhaps? I don't know. Uh
the report isn't more specific than
this, but it would be interesting. Uh
Nintendo already confirmed that the
movie will star those two people we
talked about. The film's director, Wes
Ball, is known for all of this, but
there's some crazy stuff in here.
So, Sam Neill.
Sam Neill, right here.
Deadline publisher report naming three
more cast members. Sam Neill, who passed
away last month.
The report couldn't confirm which role
he plays in the film.
Lot of us are assuming the king of
Hyrule.
That is the massive assumption at the
moment that that is what he played. It
appears to be his final movie. Sam
Neill, uh a lot of you guys might know
him from Jurassic Park, of course. Uh
one of his most famous roles ever, but
he has done a lot of different roles
over the years.
Uh obviously, rest in peace and I hope
his family
uh is handling this situation well. I
know it's really hard to lose loved
ones, but also they're going to get to
see one final performance from him. And
look, as a Sam Neill fan, the fact that
it's The Legend of Zelda film,
oh man.
Obviously, you know, if he is the king
of Hyrule, he's not the king of Hyrule
is not going to last past the first
movie, and that's really okay. We don't
see a lot of the king usually, and maybe
he dies in the movie. I have no idea. It
might be befitting if he did die because
he obviously passed away in real life,
but
man, we'll just have to wait and see if
any of this gets confirmed 100% by
Nintendo. This appears to be a leak out
there,
but
yeah, pretty interesting stuff.
Now we got to get to Nintendo's
financial report. Now normally, I sift
through Nintendo's actual report, but
there's a user on X I've gone to a few
times cuz I just like how they lay
things out cuz they they create extra
graphs with the data to help visualize
what Nintendo is saying. So, we're at
pure485, but this is a real thing. This
is actual data. All of it lines up with
Nintendo's actual release. So, Nintendo
Switch 2 shipped another 3.82 million
units, now over 23.68 million units in
13 months. That's the fastest selling
Nintendo console after five quarters. It
also has now officially passed the
Nintendo GameCube. So, we look at some
of the images here. Yeah, look at that.
It is the fastest selling Nintendo
platform.
It, you know, it is still tracking ahead
of the Wii, which had a rocket start,
but we obviously know Switch eventually
ended up passing some stuff here as it
started just going and going and going.
But yeah, guys, pretty incredible stuff
here. We'll see if this trajectory
continues cuz that is a really cool
trajectory. And then obviously, you can
see the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware by
region. So, Japan, America, Europe, and
other. Dude, this is actually quite a
few sales if I'm completely honest. And
look at the Americas with over a million
leading the way, 1.22 million.
And then you're obviously seeing, you
know, Japan at 1.04. Then you got almost
a million out in Europe, and then the
rest of the world putting in about
600,000, 590,000 to be more specific.
And then you see the worldwide Nintendo
hardware chart. You can see now where
Switch is ahead of Wii U. Switch is
ahead of GameCube. Next up for it to
pass will be the N64, which it certainly
will pass this year just with the lineup
we're already aware of. All right, so
let's go on to the next section here. It
says Nintendo shipped another 9.46
million games on Switch 2 last quarter
for a total of 58.17 million units
today. The Americas are the leading
region in game shipments accounting for
more than 36% of total shipments. And
you're seeing the software by region.
And then you're seeing here the software
by region again in a different way over
the various quarters. And then the
cumulative software shipment comparison.
Now again, still not on pace to match
the craziness of the Wii or obviously
cuz the Wii had this rocket start or
obviously even perfectly lining up with
the Nintendo Switch in terms of software
sales, of course. Remember Switch had
Breath of the Wild. Switch had Mario
Odyssey. So trying to give a little
leeway here that that was kind of a
crazy thing for for uh to have in the
first year of uh of Nintendo Switch. So
benefit of the doubt here. There's
actually been more third-party games and
stuff. Uh let's get back into this data
though again. Uh we come back here see
software by platform. Obviously it
hasn't passed any overall platforms,
although Wii U is well in sight and
probably will be passed by the end of
this current fiscal year. Uh then you
see uh Tomodachi Life Living the Dream.
They debuted it with 7.96 million units
shipped in 3 months. It immediately
became the franchise's best-selling
title. Of course there's only two
titles, but still uh obviously
incredible sales for Nintendo. Uh you
can see Tomodachi Collection and then
Tomodachi Life and then Tomodachi Life
Living the Dream. All right. Uh
Tomodachi series of course just looks
like it continues to grow, which is
pretty cool. Uh Super Mario Party
Jamboree uh reached 1.15 million units
after 11 months. Total sales now exceed
11.11 million units if you count the
Switch version. So, again, an incredibly
successful game for Nintendo. Although,
I do think the Switch 2 version that DLC
ain't it. I'm just putting it out there.
Uh Super Mario Party Jamboree
uh
Next to the Mario Party series,
obviously, it's up there with Super and
Superstars ahead of uh you know, Mario
Party 8, Mario Party DS, etc. So, yeah.
It's it's one of the most popular Mario
Parties ever. All right. Pokémon Pokkén
Tournament is now at 3.68 million units
in 4 months. But, here's the special
note. Japanese shipments are not
included cuz it's published by Koei
Tecmo out in Japan, right? Uh that's
another 1.27 million. So, it actually
crossed
almost 5 million. Just shy of 5 million
units uh between April and June. It's
the best-selling Pokémon spin-off
published by Nintendo in the last 15
years. We're not done, though.
Uh obviously, you got to look at the
Pokémon spin-offs. You can see 3.68, but
if you add the rest
It's not ahead of Pinball and Stadium
yet, but it's well on its way to do that
before the end of this fiscal year.
Um obviously, having an incredible
launch. All right. Uh Pokémon Legends ZA
shipped another 50k units on Switch 2.
That's 3.99 million units in total for
that version. While total sales are at
least, because there was no update for
the Switch units, to 12.84 million
units. All right. Uh you can see here
how well it did. Okay. Pokémon main
series all those comparisons, the
Pokémon series comparisons, etc. Mario
Kart World shipped another 690k units in
the quarter. Now over 15.39 million
units after a year. It's the second
fastest-selling title in the franchise,
trailing only behind Mario Kart Wii in
terms of the speed at which it sells.
So, yeah, guys, for all that like if you
be like, "Oh, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe." I'm
just noting it actually is selling
faster than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did. So,
there hasn't been a Mario Kart selling
this fast ever.
We'll see if that continues. Next up, uh
we get to look at some of those graphs
related to the sales of Mario Kart
World.
All right, Kirby Air Riders is now over
1.9 million units shipped in 8 months,
shipping another 30K units this quarter.
So, that is awesome. Uh you can see how
it compares here. You can see Air Riders
already had a some mainline Kirby games.
Like this is just a really
well-performing game for Nintendo.
Credit to Sakurai for that. Nokigoman
also shipped another 260K units for this
fourth quarter for a total of 4.78. It's
going to pass 5 million, of course, you
know, that's how this goes. Uh next up
here, Switch to million sellers list has
been updated and you're seeing obviously
six of them with Jamboree now joining
that list. Uh Nintendo did note that um
Starfox and one other game.
Uh I'm drawing a blank. Someone in the
comments will correct me, but it was
Starfox and one other game is moving
well, which tells me it's probably just
shy of a million, which is why it didn't
make this report. So, I suspect that
next financial report will see Starfox
on this list. And we'll see what else uh
happens to pop up there. Anyways, uh
that's really cool. Uh it is uh Yoshi.
Yoshi and the Isle of Series Park,
that's the other one they said was
moving well, but hadn't crossed a
million yet. All right, Nintendo Switch
shipped 670K units this quarter, down
from 980K units last year. That's a 32%
drop-off. I'm actually kind of surprised
670K units still sold. This thing is
probably going to pass the PS2, isn't
it? Anyways, it's now over 156.59
million units to date. Nintendo forecast
over 157.92
million in total by March 2027. That's
another 1.33 million units in 9 months.
Hey, if they keep selling it for 2
years, uh that's you know, a couple more
years, it should pass it, but who knows?
Um
we had to go though into uh some some
other stuff here that I think is kind of
crazy.
Um
>> [laughter]
>> I
I I I don't care about all this stuff.
Obviously, they're going to go over a
lot of stuff like the millions of
dollars of Switch software tie ratio.
Um, you know, they talk about the DS and
some other stuff. But, that's kind of
the main crux of everything we wanted to
go over with that data. Uh, you guys let
me know uh, if you uh, enjoyed that
report from Nintendo. I don't know how
you feel about it. Uh, I've been kind of
getting in some hot water for a take I
had on GTA 6 on X yesterday. It is what
it is, but I'm just happy to get this
video out to you guys late, early,
whenever the hell it goes out. Thank you
so much for tuning in. I am Nintendo
Rufflejantz, and I will catch you guys
in the next video.
