New Ocarina of Time Details for Zelda’s 40th... It's About to BLOW UP!
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
Nintendo is preparing a massive marketing push to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise, with a primary focus on the highly anticipated remake of Ocarina of Time. While an official release date has not yet been confirmed, several indicators suggest that Nintendo plans to unveil details soon, likely during a major event next month in September. Evidence includes recent trademark renewals filed by Nintendo Company Ltd for both "The Legend of Zelda" and specifically "Ocarina of Time," signaling their intent to protect the IP globally as they prepare new merchandise, console hardware, and potentially tie-ins with an upcoming movie. The company appears determined to make this anniversary a significant event that rivals or even surpasses previous celebrations like Mario's 40th anniversary, ensuring a sustained period of excitement leading up to the game's launch.
In addition to the core game announcement, new information has emerged regarding merchandise and promotional materials associated with the celebration. Leaked images from China hint at a mysterious third item in the Zelda 40th lineup that manufacturers are hesitant to reveal publicly; speculation suggests this might be due to supply chain secrecy or fears of leaks if production details become public knowledge. Furthermore, marketing assets spotted on news sites for the upcoming Switch 2 have already begun promoting Ocarina of Time as a returning classic set to launch in 2026 with hyper-realistic graphics and updated character designs. These teasers highlight significant changes from the original game, such as Link appearing without his iconic fairy companion or green tunic at the start of the adventure, sparking curiosity about how these alterations fit into the broader narrative redesign while maintaining the series' legacy.
Despite the growing hype, a notable absence remains in the form of playable footage, screenshots, or behind-the-scenes content for the remake, which has led to concerns among fans and media outlets regarding potential leaks at upcoming industry events like PAX West. The creator expresses strong confidence that Nintendo will eventually release previews but worries about the difficulty of controlling information once a demo is shown publicly, given how easily unreleased footage from other titles has leaked in the past. Nevertheless, the enthusiasm for this project runs deep; for many long-time fans and creators, Ocarina of Time holds a special place as it inspired their careers in gaming journalism and content creation decades ago. As Nintendo continues to build momentum with hardware reveals, movie casting news, and global trademark activity, all eyes are fixed on September when the full scope of this historic anniversary is expected to be revealed.

Today we're going to be talking about
how Nintendo is about to lift the veil
on the Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary
Ocarina of Time remake and honestly it
looks like they have a massive plan to
be pushing this for some time. Maybe
even harder than they pushed Mario's
40th anniversary. We're going to talk
about that because there's a lot of
interesting things that have been
developing. Some new information is out
there as well. Before we dive in I just
want to remind you we are giving away a
switch to right now. You can enter
through the link down in the pin comment
or the description. No, it's not the
Zelda special edition one. Sorry, but
that's okay.
Maybe that's in a future giveaway card.
We'll we'll have to wait and see. We'll
draw the winner on October 1st. Only
requirement by the way to enter is to be
subscribed. All right guys, let's talk
about the Legend of Zelda and the 40th
anniversary. You can see the hat. You
guys have seen the logo. You've seen the
leaks. We have a lot of information to
go over
because look, Zelda's 40th is really
special to me for a number of reasons.
For starters, Zelda is my favorite
franchise of all time. I turn 40 years
this year. Zelda turns 40 years this
year. Technically Zelda is a little bit
older than me. I turned 40 in July. I
turned 40 back in
well, February, but they don't really
celebrate Zelda's anniversaries usually
until September. At least that has been
Nintendo's tradition. One time they
talked about it during the like the the
June Direct, but outside of that it's
always been September and hours mostly
because they're still celebrating
Mario's anniversary from the September
prior. So they kind of put a year
between celebrating these anniversaries.
So yes, it is expected next month we're
going to get a Zelda 40th blowout
probably part of a grander general
Nintendo Direct as they continue to
market Fire Emblem Fates weave. Maybe
even bring up Xenoblade Genesis again.
We'll see although we might not see that
again till next year. I suspect another
announcement for a game next year, some
third-party release dates, new
third-party announcements. Just like we
had Kingdom Hearts 4 last time. Who
expected that? So Nintendo really seems
to have stepped up the game with their
directs this year. Obviously with only
one big one so far with another big one
seemingly on the horizon. But, some
developments have been happening with
regards to Ocarina of Time cuz that is
the big game coming out this year. They
haven't gave us a date yet. We fully
suspect we should know next month. And
one of those things that lets you know
that hey, Nintendo's pretty serious
about this coming out fairly soon is
this. Nintendo Company Ltd, according to
NecroFelipe, filed a request for renewal
and registration in some locations of
the trademark The Legend of Zelda:
Ocarina of Time, including in Brazil,
which is where he reports from, on July
30th. So, this was all the way back in
July. Obviously, you know,
we're a couple months removed from that.
So, the request remains pending
approval. It hasn't been approved yet.
Doesn't need to be approved for the game
to release. But, obviously, Nintendo
wants trademarks active for Ocarina of
Time
pretty much across the globe. Like, it's
pretty obvious they're bringing the game
back. They don't want anyone able to
infringe on their trademarks. Uh more
than that, of course, uh Zelda has a
movie coming up. Zelda has uh
merchandise, the console, other things
coming. Uh and one thing Mike Odyssey
has been paying attention to is some of
the trademarks out there. And while he
talks about the NecroFelipe one filed
for a trademark in Madrid for Ocarina of
Time,
uh on his end in the US, which is the
same end I'm on, we have a pending
trademark for The Legend of Zelda, which
could be used for the movie. Now, the
Ocarina of Time trademark has already
been renewed in the United States a
while back and it is still active. So,
they don't really need to renew that
one. Uh The Legend of Zelda trademark
coming up for renewal is obviously quite
interesting since it's the 40th
anniversary. But, again, they also filed
for this. Again, you know, this was back
in July 30th and this one was filed
quite recently. But, again, it's one of
those things where they're obviously
going to get that trademark approved or
if it's not already approved, not really
a big deal. They already own that
trademark. It's just a renewal. Same for
Ocarina of Time. Those are usually just
automatically processed cuz as long as
you're doing something with it. Well,
Ocarina of Time has a remake coming out.
The Legend of Zelda has stuff coming out
all the time. So, yeah, Nintendo owns
those trademarks for good reason.
We talked about uh some other stuff with
Zelda's 40th as well. Uh if you guys
remember, we did a video yesterday that
featured uh a new third item for the
Zelda 40th lineup. Uh and that's right
here. This image right here coming from
out of China. Look, it's quite
interesting. It does have obviously the
back of the Pro Controller. I will take
a look at the Pro Controller a bit
closer in a moment, but there's a
mystery third item supposedly hidden
there they're not allowed to share. We
don't know why. Obviously, it feels
weird cuz it feels like they shouldn't
be allowed to share anything. It is
possible they might be the only
manufacturing plant for one of the Zelda
40th anniversary items. Someone did
float that idea out to me yesterday
that, "Hey, maybe the reason they feel
that they can't share is they became
aware they're the only place making the
box for whatever item this is. And uh if
you reveal that item, they'll instantly
know where the leaks came from." Of
course, this would also mean in order
for this to not just automatically have
Nintendo know where the leaks are coming
from with a mystery third item cuz they
would know where that's being made. Uh
it's also possible maybe there's other
items that are being manufactured
elsewhere, and so it does make it
actually harder to track down. So, maybe
there's more than three Zelda 40th
anniversary items. Maybe there's four or
five, and that would then make sense why
they don't want to reveal which one this
is as those might get manufactured
elsewhere. Whereas, the controller and
the console, at least the boxes and all
of that, hey guys, like they're going to
make a lot more of those than probably
the other items. And so, yeah, those
might be a bit harder to track down the
exact place. Again, that is I guess a
worthwhile excuse for why they feel like
they couldn't reveal it. Um but there's
also like this weird thing with Nintendo
themselves. So, Nintendo has been
marketing Zelda already. They're not
quite going with the 40th anniversary
moniker yet. We know that's going to
start next month, but they are starting
to push Ocarina of Time. This was
spotted in a news thing on the Nintendo
Switch 2. And again, I I I went to look,
and I guess it's been edited or deleted.
I'm not really sure. Maybe my Switch 2
is just being wonky. We do have issues
with internet at of right now. In fact,
this video might be going up later than
I wanted it to because the internet's
again acting wonky. Uh but this guy here
uh took some uh images with his phone,
obviously. Why he didn't just use the
screenshot function and share it to the
Nintendo app and put it online, I don't
know, but whatever. I guess this was
just quick and easy. And you can see
here that it says, "Link and Ganondorf
have had many different appearances
throughout the Legend of Zelda series.
If you'd like to experience some of the
legends, please check out the list
below." And the very first game they
have on that list is uh Ocarina of Time.
Nintendo put it at the tippity top, even
though you can't pre-order the game yet.
It says, "The critically acclaimed
classic returns for a new generation in
2026, reborn." They keep using that word
exclusively for the Switch 2 system. "If
you're interested in this game, please
add it to your wish list." Which this
person obviously uh did do. And there's
another image here showing the actual
like news article what it looks like. It
just says The Legend of Zelda with the
Triforce sold. It's just like an
advertising news post, except that it's
marketing Ocarina of Time already.
Nintendo's already marketing Ocarina of
Time, which is fascinating considering
we still haven't seen the game. Now, one
thing we have seen, of course, are the
uh console and the controller. Let's go
ahead and look at the controller. All
this stuff leaked out. These are some
renders here.
Um but they're not exactly correct
because like this Triforce logo, what AI
did to this logo is not actually what it
looks like. You can see it on the box
art. But yeah, this gives you a really
good look at the controller, the front
and the back. This back is actually
extremely accurate, which there's not as
much going on, so it's not surprising
that it's extremely accurate. Really
neat that Nintendo put that whole sword
beam thing from the original Zelda. Just
a really neat touch. I like it when
Nintendo does stuff like that. Um and
then we have this. You guys have already
seen it in the thumbnail, uh but this is
obviously uh put together by someone
based on the box art and the controller.
You can see someone kind of like put it
together in a way. Now, we do know the
front of the box actually has the 40th
anniversary logo on it. Uh so we know
that they Okay, maybe that's not 100%
correct here, but this is basically what
the console and the controller looks
like. It looks like the controller on
the left might be black, although maybe
it's also green. It's hard to tell
because of the lighting. We know the
Droid con on the right is green. We know
about the Triforce symbol. We know about
all the markings. Yeah, this is all
fairly accurate to what was leaked out
there. You guys have seen it. None of
this stuff is really new to you guys,
but it's just noting that obviously with
this stuff leaking out Nintendo is
clearly going to have a blowout fairly
soon. And how soon? Well, look, friend
of the channel and I I got to make sure
I know this. This is not a leak. This is
a prediction from Keevy Taxi. He also
works at Insider Gamer. So, yes, he's
got a lot of connections in the
industry. Maybe he's heard some
whispers. We can't know. But he has put
out there that calling it Zelda Direct
next week. He said this on August 12th.
We're on the weekend, so next week he's
saying he's calling his shot for a Zelda
Direct next week with the accurate time
release date and the Zelda movie
trailer. Now, we've also had like movie
cast leaks. We're not going to go back
over those today from Deadline, but I do
appreciate that we now actually have a
good idea of who some of the main
characters are going to be. And I
actually really do like a lot of the
choices, but this goes back to obviously
Ocarina of Time. That's the big thing
this year. Yes, we're going to get the
console. Yes, we're going to get the
game.
We're going to get the controller. We're
going to get whatever, right? There's
going to be a bunch of stuff coming out
around Zelda's 40th and Nintendo's looks
like they're going to make a very, very
hard marketing push. Hell, we've even
heard things about The Legend of Zelda
movie having licensing deals for
merchandise next year. Don't know if
we're going to see that merchandise this
year, but still, it's really cool to
know that hey, this Zelda stuff's going
to keep going all the way through the
Zelda movie. So, we have a lot of Zelda
coming our way beginning next month. And
obviously the big thing we're all
curious about is Ocarina of Time. Look
guys, we had that trailer, that teaser
trailer, and it was really good. In
fact, so good, I think we need to listen
to the full thing with the full audio. I
know I've played it over many a video,
but
when's the last time you sat back and
actually listened to the audio of the
teaser. So, here's that Ocarina of Time
teaser that we all know and love.
>> Long ago, there was a land called
Hyrule, created by beings of supreme
divinity.
At the very edge of this kingdom,
there lay a small forest.
Within it, an ancient solitary tree
quietly watched over the inhabitants of
the forest.
These forest dwellers were called the
Kokiri.
Each had a fairy companion,
and they lived out their innocent lives
in these woods.
>> [music]
>> However, there was one particular boy
who did not have a fairy.
>> [music]
[music]
>> Yeah, I still get chills down my spine
when the da da da happens and
um you know, when he when he kind of
does the Harry Potter thing where he
says, "One particular boy."
I'm like, "Oh man, that's so Harry
Potter-esque." But also because the
Harry Potter movies were so epic. Uh and
obviously we're dealing with an epic
here in Ocarina of Time. I think it's a
wholly good thing that that pops to my
mind cuz how epic that moment felt and
how obviously the author and the movies
and all that described Harry Potter at
the beginning about being a special boy,
the boy who lived. And here we kind of
have another situation where, hey, one
particular boy survived things like his
parents dying. He's dropped off with the
Kokiri. We know the history of Link in
Ocarina of Time. And so because of that,
uh it just felt very fitting that, you
know, hey, we're acting like this is a
very special boy. He's a very different
boy. He's a boy without a fairy of his
own. Uh I really, really enjoyed this.
It's like a retelling of the beginning
of the game, but done in a very epic
storybook kind of way. And then that
transition into the hyperrealism or
maybe hyperrealism's a little strong,
but at least the most realistic art
style we've probably ever seen fully
realized in HD for uh a Nintendo game in
terms of Zelda. Like this is really
crazy. I really like what we saw.
Obviously a lot of hopes uh and
curiosity cuz like Link's design has
changed, right? They changed things like
he somehow he has the Triforce now at
the beginning of the game. Now, maybe
that was a trailer trick uh and not
actually in the final game. That is
possible uh just to hype us up. But uh
if that is part of the beginning of the
game, that's interesting cuz he doesn't
actually have the Triforce of Courage to
begin the adventure in Ocarina of Time.
So really interesting there. Uh and then
beyond that
uh or at least he doesn't have the
Triforce of Courage awakened in him yet,
right? So we don't see it glowing that
early in the game. We don't see that
till way later in the game. That being
said um
obviously his design has changed. And
that leads to us speculating on, man, if
his design changed, then has the Kokiri
design changed in general? Has the green
tunic design changed even a little bit
when he finally like gets that cuz
technically he's supposed to already
have the green tunic. Like he starts the
game wearing it.
But, here he clearly isn't wearing that.
So, is that something he gets later? Did
they make a change with that? Or, do
they get rid of that entirely and
replace it with all new stuff, which
would be a bold move, but I'm not
entirely opposed to it. It kind of just
depends on what they're doing with the
rest of the game. Like, if the whole
game's been redesigned, I'm not really
going to be that mad about like the
green garb being gone if it's consistent
with the redesign of the whole world.
Like, if the Kokiri aren't wearing the
green garb, which is where the
inspiration came from, and yeah, okay,
it would make sense if maybe Link's not
doing that. But, then there's the
different color garbs later in the game,
the blue, the red. How does that fit in?
I have no idea, right? Obviously, guys,
there's a lot we want to see with this
game, and most of it we're not going to
be satisfied with till we're playing it
ourselves. I got a feeling a lot of
people like me that grew up with this
game, we're going to have a lot of
moments where we're just stopping in the
game and looking and just being in awe
or disgust at what they're doing to the
world of Ocarina of Time. So,
uh it's going to be really interesting.
I, you know, hopefully we'll live stream
it with you guys one day so you guys can
see my reactions to all this stuff, uh
because I really uh think that, you
know, I don't really replay a lot of
games, and Ocarina of Time is kind of
this special one. And look, there's
nothing like a spoilery about like the
overall story cuz we all know it
already. So, actually, I think a live
stream of it would get quite a few
views. It's just, you know,
>> [laughter]
>> we're on a game buying freeze over here.
So, I I I can't be going against that
just because I'm super hyped for a game.
Uh but, what I can do is still get
really hyped with you guys and then
eventually play it in front of the whole
audience, uh probably sometime next year
so you guys can see my raw reactions
after you guys have already experienced
the greatness that is this this remake,
or at least the greatness we hope it's
going to it's going to have because it's
remaking a great game, the highest-rated
video game of all time. And I understand
people have challenged that lately.
They've looked into the history of some
of the reviews listed on Metacritic, and
turns out some of them might have been
fake. And if that's the case, then it's
actually more like a 98, not a 99, which
means then it's tied with a whole bunch
of different games. I get that, okay? Um
that doesn't change the fact that it's a
really excellent game, regardless of if
the highest rated game of all time is
actually an overhyped, like kind of a
That is what it says on Metacritic, to
be clear, but if it's kind of a
misdirection, uh because Metacritic did
a very poor job back then grabbing those
reviews and verifying them. Uh that
seems to be the case that they did a bad
job of that, but it doesn't matter. It
doesn't change the fact that when it
re-released on 3DS, it was still a
really high-rated game in the '90s. And
yes, this is should be another 90-plus
rated game, unless Nintendo and I don't
know, whatever company's working with
them on this, if it's all internal,
cool. If it's some external, cool.
Uh unless they really messed it up. And
look, we've only seen one little teaser
trailer, and I can say so far, they
haven't messed it up, but
it's like the tiniest, littlest,
smallest possible thing they could show
us about the game, outside of just maybe
just giving the title and giving nothing
else, which I guess they could have
done.
But I'm glad they actually gave us a
little, just a tiny teaser look at what
the game looks like.
Um but yeah, we're on the verge of
Nintendo blowing this all out. This is a
thing that Nintendo's going to be
pushing really, really hard. And I think
they're going to continue the Ocarina of
Time push throughout the 40th
anniversary, through the movie. And I
wonder if some of the movie designs will
be seen in Ocarina of Time as well. I
wonder if there's going to be a little
connection there. Nintendo likes to line
games up with their movies. And while
the movie is, you know, 5-6 months after
the game comes out, you can see a
re-promotion campaign happening around
the Zelda movie.
Um maybe with some more Ocarina of Time
LEGO drops, maybe some Zelda movie LEGO
drops, and some other stuff. Like guys,
we're about to get a big blowout for the
40th. And uh look, there's a lot we
know,
but it's what we don't know, such as
nothing has leaked at all in terms of
screenshots or footage of Ocarina of
Time remake. That means media probably
hasn't touched this game yet, right?
There's been no behind-the-scenes
previews yet. There's been nothing, just
radio silence. And look, as hopeful as I
am that Ocarina of Time, even if they
the directors after PAX West, as hopeful
as I am that Ocarina of Time is playable
behind scenes with Nintendo at PAX West,
and that might be the case. Even if it's
not, I can't be mad because if it is
playable behind the scenes at PAX West,
it's going to leak. I'm just going to
tell you guys right now, it's going to
leak because some of the people that
they have allowed into that private
room, maybe they'll be more cautious
about that.
You know, I can see them being a little
a little bit more cautious if Ocarina of
Time is back there cuz the games they
had back there were all known games.
This would be a game that hasn't really
been seen by people much, so
I do think there's a high risk of leaks
if it if it's back there. So, I can see
Nintendo maybe not doing it if the
direct isn't before that. Or maybe they
don't care. It is possible that, hey,
beginning on that Friday, you can play
it, you can record it, and you can post
about it. Maybe they just have a
straight-up, hey, look, we want previews
going out that weekend. We're good with
it. Cool. Maybe that's the case. I doubt
it. Nintendo will likely make us, if it
is there, hold out for weeks or months,
possibly, to put a preview out. But
that's if it is there. I can see them
not putting it there because I just
don't know how
I just don't know how it doesn't leak.
Not because we're going to do it or the
Nintendite crew is going to do it, but
somebody is going to be in that room.
Somebody's going to grab footage they're
not supposed to have, and somebody's
going to put it on the internet. You
just know it. This happens all the time.
Heck, Skyward Sword, they couldn't even
show media a piece of art for Skyward
Sword without that leaking on the line
back at E3 back in the day. So, if the
media itself, now imagine event they're
like in content creators and media in,
it's kind of like, okay. Yeah, at that
point, you know what's going to happen.
And that sucks.
This isn't like Star Wars Outlaws where
nobody recorded footage and nobody
leaked that
a week before it came out because, you
know, weren't allowed to at that event.
But that's Star Wars Outlaws, there also
wasn't a lot of interest in it. This is
Zelda. This is Ocarina of Time. We know
people will be interested in trying to
leak this stuff. So, I can see them not
bringing the demo there, and that sucks
for me. And then Nintendo byte crew, uh
but we'll see what happens. Obviously,
guys, the big push is coming. And as
soon as they have this direct, I think
all bets are off on media events, all
bets are off on demos. Maybe a demo even
pops up at God, can you imagine a demo
for Ocarina of Time is at the stores?
That I can go to Best Buy and play a
full demo of Ocarina of Time.
Man, would that be great. I obviously
would be talking to Best Buy because at
that point we're bringing in the
professional equipment. We're We're
We're zooming in. We're getting like the
best possible look we can get. Uh my
demo kiosk at my Best Buy are only
handheld, only no docked mode. But hey,
getting handheld footage would be great.
Um and their stationary systems so
they're like really easy to like point a
camera at and try to get a good a good
angle. If we can bring the tripod in,
I'll talk to Best Buy about that if
that's the case cuz obviously, guys, I'm
going to want to get you the best
preview coverage I can possibly do for
the game. And I have a lot of experience
playing Ocarina of Time, a lot of
experience playing Zelda. So, this is
one that I can actually can go quite
in-depth on on some of the differences
between the demo and the and the normal
game, the original game. Uh and I can
talk about obviously what it felt like
to play, um what I think about any of
the new features or any of the new
combat or the new controls or whatever
they're doing, right? There's a lot we
don't know. And yet I'm this hyped.
Guys, Ocarina of Time started my career.
A lot of people don't know this. Uh this
game started my career. I wouldn't be a
YouTuber today without this game. It got
me into uh inspired me so much I started
making guides for Zelda games back in
1999. And then uh that led to obviously
all the Zelda fan sites I worked for,
including that the one that I helped
make really, really popular in
Zeldainformer, which then eventually led
to me becoming a YouTuber here. Although
we cover for than Zelda, obviously, now.
When a Zelda game comes out, it might
feel like we only cover Zelda for the
month leading into it, but I promise you
we cover a lot of other stuff.
Uh I just have a special place in my
heart for this franchise.
Uh so, it gets a lot of attention
heading in because it's special to me.
Uh video games are special to me in
general, but this IP is just
very special. This game is very special
to me, and I hope this is one of the
good remakes and not one of the ones I
walk away from
disappointed.
I'm going to give you the best coverage
we can.
Um and I can't wait for this all to
begin next month.
And if you're asking me when it's going
to happen next month,
um I've heard some rumblings
on
two specific dates, but uh we're going
to keep that to myself cuz they're just
rumblings and they're unreliable, and
I don't have permission to tell you
anyways. So, we'll just have to wait and
see, but I'm I'm very, very confident in
September. Thank you guys for being
here. I'll catch you in
the next video.
