Video summary

The presentation by Dr. Sukanta Kumar Patra from Visva-Bharati University explores the landscape of Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) repositories within G20 nations and their relationship with the NDLTD Global ETD Metadata Repository. The core argument highlights that the growth of open access platforms has significantly improved research services, particularly in ensuring academic integrity through plagiarism checks and similarity reports which are now prerequisites for awarding PhD degrees. The study aims to analyze the current state of national repositories across G20 members, noting that while these countries represent 85% of the global GDP and control a vast majority of international trade, their dominance in research visibility is directly correlated with their economic influence. This correlation suggests that financial resources and technological infrastructure play a crucial role in preserving and disseminating academic knowledge globally. A significant disparity exists between participating and non-participating G20 nations regarding repository integration. Out of the twenty member countries, only thirteen actively contribute to the NDLTD global network, leaving seven major economies, including Argentina, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Turkey, outside this collaborative framework. This "participation gap" represents a missed opportunity for global knowledge sharing among the world's largest economies. Among the active contributors, the United States leads with 1.5 million records, followed by Brazil and the United Kingdom, while India's Shodhganga repository has recently surpassed the UK to become a top contributor with over 600,000 full-text theses. The presentation also details diverse regional approaches, such as the Dart-Europe consortium for European nations and specific initiatives in Latin America and Asia that focus on preserving regional languages like Spanish, Portuguese, and Armenian. To address these challenges and improve the status of national repositories, the presenter offers several strategic recommendations centered on standardization and mandatory submission policies. Currently, bibliographic standards vary widely across institutions, but adopting international formats such as APA, MLA, or ISO 690 would facilitate seamless integration across different academic databases and enhance global discoverability. Furthermore, the study suggests that mandating the electronic submission of all thesis levels, including Master's degrees which are currently often excluded, would create more comprehensive academic records and reduce administrative burdens. The presentation concludes by emphasizing the need for professional development workshops to transfer tacit knowledge regarding ETD management and foster international collaboration, ultimately aiming to align national efforts with the G20 summit's vision of a unified future where research is accessible to all.

Now uh I am Dr. uh presenting um very good morning here in India and I think in USA is a good afternoon. Now I go to uh direct here to uh did you forward a copy of your slides to us? Now is it visible ma'am? >> Wonderful. Thank you. >> Okay. Now my topic is the nationality reposities of D20 countries in relation to uh the ND is global meditator repository and I am Dr. Shukatro a lian of Vidasagar College for women Kolkata West Bengal India. in brief. Now uh now what is what to be present in this conference and the uh in abstract here uh the growth and development of ETD uh ETDs available on the open access platform is the resulting uh in improved the service to researcher recent trend of the awarding the PhD degrees directly dependent on the similarity report or plagarism report. So it is never possible without its and the open access movement to promote hidden research as explore research. So uh the study aim to analyze the current state of the NDLTD uh to participate nationality repository throughout the world. The major objective of the study is to find out the current state of the NDLT's metadata repository to explore the comprehensive the scenario of ED repository of G20 countries with respect to the NDT's global ED meta repository. In this paper the adapted methodology of thetric analysis and some national level of ET repositories G20 countries are analyzed. The study should be the cover the ETD initiative by the G20 members country compress the 19 countries that means the Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States and the European Union. The G20 member the countries they represent the 85% of the global GDP over the 75 of the global trade and the about the two3 of the world population the major objective of the study are to analysis the important importance of ETD global context to find the linkage between the global ETDs and the G20 member countries by talking into the consideration the findings at the end of the study there are the some proposal of the recommendation and further improvement of the status of the national repositories. Now we go going to the rearch abstract the open access growth and the second one is the quality assistance and third one is the research trends the electronic dissertation on the open access platform the significantly they enhance the research service and the global knowledge of accessibility and what are the quality of assurance The PhD award now the mandate plaggarism and the similarity reports ensuring the academic integrity and research authenticity and what are the research transformation the ATD effectively to convert the hidden research into the explor discoverable scholarly contribution for the global academic community. These are the key research terms. And what are the research foundations? There are three main basics of the research foundation. Information the development driver, research integration and the stakeholder benefits. Information ser that means the information as the information search uh that means the socioeconomic development across the nations and academic institutions. Research integration. The research repository similarity integrate and organization scholarly output and enhance the discoverability. And the last one is the stakeholder benefits. The essential resources for the researchers, librarians and academia and the pursuing the advanced scholarly world. What are the global context of the align of G20 countries? Now there is a short very short video and we know the uh G20 summit of the 2023 themes in the one earth one family and one future. I think our the eng is is a one of the best not only best it's a one and is a one uh world one repositories the meta repositories in futures and these are the uh very short videos within the uh one and a half Yes. Now skip to the next one. Now what are the primary research objectives? the connection discover discovery, the global ETDs and G20 integrations to identify and analysis the strategic connections between the global ETDs and the G20 members countries in the national research infrastructures. Secondary research objectives the global context analysis that means that to comprehensively the analysis and importance of the impact of ETDs within the broader global research ecosystem and the uh another the comp comparative assessment to systematically compare the ETDs initiative across the G20 countries with the established NDLT depository standard and the best practice. What are the research methodology to the follow in this research in my research is the analysis analysis that means that we we follow the uh there are the very various of the entities of the national entities and to go to the website and we collect the data and analysis for the paper and quality quantitative analysis that means what are the data already found from the various educ of the nationality repository and it is a simplified and it is a that means the presented in this my article and presentation the global participation N global participation there are the 20 G20 countries actively participating in ND this global open action movement contributing to the worldwide scholarly knowledge sharing and the top top of the there are the also the examples of the Australia, Germany, Brazil, Canada, China and France addition addition participating nations include the India, Italy, Japan, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States and others also there are the main uh there are the some examples of the is the Australia the trope from of Australia, BDTD from Brazil and this iss Canada from Canada. The global ET repository is a major international repository is the showcase the diverse approach to the ETDs preservation across the the continent the China, France, Germany, India you know the India sanga is a very popular in throughout the our India and also the around the world. Now the status of the sanga is the total full text the are the 6 lakhs 25,494 and then the data is from today and there are the also submitted already the synopsis are the 17,349 and there are the university contributing universities at the 842 and university sign more 96. It is a record uh of the current status of the subdanga. Now what are the European Union ETD contributions? The Dart Europe consortium the seven European Union nations contributed through the Dart Europe then creating the unified European approach to the EDDD management and discoverability at the popular that the main considering the D in the Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Netherland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden and there are the France, Germany and Italy maintain the individual hold while the contributing to broader the European initiative. [clears throat] The global ETD ecosystem the extent for the beyond the traditional academic powerhouse encompasses of the diver regions and emerging the scholarly communities and there are the Armenia and developing the national repository infrastructure with the focus of the regional language preservation. Bangladesh growing the participant of South Asian academic collaboration network. Latin American also the uh regional contribution promoting the Spanish and Portuguese language scholarships also and Taiwan also uh they mention the advanced digital infrastructure supporting the multilingual uh the academic content you know the uh the country's religion in the ET resources there are the Armenia the open access repository of the Armenian electronic system and dissertation Australian is the probe Bangladesh is Digital archives on the agricultural thesis and dissertations. The Belgium is the big tail big tail is thesis in French and box is the thesis in the premise and Brazil is the biblotica digital Brazilia thesis dissertation. The Canada, the Canada for the thesis Canada, the Central Asia, the Central Asian thesis repository, China, the China doctoral thesis dissertation full database, Europe is dart Europe, the Finland is a thesis and the publication of the University of Science and and there are the also another repositories that means the Millinda the means the union catalog of the Finnish libraries and France. The thesis France and Germany due tech national and Hong Kong they also the Hong Kong HKU thesis online India Sanga Ireland University College Dublin thesis Italy thesis the online Japan Japanese international repository online that means the gyro and the sini researchensor the Latin America is an network of OA repositories. The Lithonia is E lab ad Netherland is a NIS and New Zealand is a NJ research.org.n in Jed North America the focus dissertation and the thesis and PQ open and Pakistan is a Pakistan research repository Peru the Renuti the Portugal is a RC cap uh Scandinavia is a diva and the Serbia is Na R US the South Africa it portal Spain is thesis doctoral N red and SEO the Switzerland is the helmet cat and Taiwan is national digital library of the thesis and dissertation in Taiwan and United Kingdom is ethos and United States is the American doctor dissertation and W is the thesis collection world these are the global ed repository respective the national repository and the G20 ND this participation gap that there are only the 13 of the 20 the 20 countries in G20 and there are the only only 13 country they have the repositories nationality repository those are the participate in the NLTDs and you know the 65% of the G20 participation rate and uh and there are the participation gap they represent the miss missed opportunities to the global knowledge sharing the academ IC collaboration among the world largest economics and you know the 35% the missing opportunities are the there in the seven major economic remains the out of the collaborative networks the nonparticipating G20 nation who are the nonparticipating there are the Argentina the Latin American second largest economy of the singing the research output Indonesia Asia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Turkey. They are they are the nations that they are the seven nations in uh in G20 countries. Those are the not participated in the ND repositories till now and what are the leading ETD contributors? The top three contributors the demonstrate the scale and the impact of the national ETD uh initiative in the preserving the scholarly knowledge. What are they? They are the top three are the United States. Number two is the Brazil. Number three is the United Kingdoms. The there are the United States. There are the 1.5 millions of records in its in repository. The massive collection that reflected the decades of the digital repository development and the compens part distributions. And second one is uh 625K that means the Brazil the Latin America's the largest contributor the showcasing the strong uh strong international commitment and the uh across the partisan principles and 600k in the United Kingdom the robust collection the repositing the excellence of the research the supervision and the digital preservation standard but now I I think we we cross in India s Gonga is also now in the present scenario is is cross to the United Kingdom because there are the total full test thesis in Sanga is the 6 lakhs 25,494 the major European contributor there are the 82% in the European nations that demonstrate the strong and the commitment of the scholarly preservation throughout the subd collections and the France is already mentioned that five lakh 25,84 but India is a record is a is a not up to date record I already said that it is a record is now mentioned 4 lakh 83,399 when the article is writing but now is the data change is a 6 lakh 25,494 and China is the 4 lakhs 50,000 it is emerging ed powerhouse that the meat tire the contributors the showcase diver approach of nationality is in the m what the meter Germany that means the two lakhs 84,000 year about and Canada two lakhs the this is bilingual reposiitories and the German is the uh this quality control and the complaints in the metadata standard that driven the German excellent and the South Africa one lakhs 51,150 the leading the African contributors of the multilingual content and repositing again. And you you know that is a graphical approach in Italy, Japan and that Europe. There are the in in the India Gos there are 6.4 4 millions of ATDs are there and 89% of the GT G20 contribution and 11% is the other nations that means the more more uh the soc countries in the our ND repository immediat depositors and the G20 the the dominance in the global repository the examination overwhelming the contribution of G20 nations to worlds the economic the electronic and dissertation collection through the compensator analysis If and I also mention the intest overview it I think it should be the change nowaday data because there is the 6.4 millions the totalities but now it is figure should be the change and uh there are the also mentioned that 89% uh and G20 share I also before I also told you the 11% data uh 11% the others repositories of the Indians and the 6.4 4 million that means the 89% in in the G20 countries mentioned there so we can uh there from the list of the participant there also mentioned it deposited the American doctor dissertation and bid dissert Brazil these are the and the sanga from India is a very popular repositor in Indian in Indian cities and you know the uh uh some of the mainly for India's swanga is fully open access and we can search through the ind repositories and also the direct from swanga and in directly the full text thesis but some of the thesis from the int is not the full text we can search only the metadata fromt repositories Please the G20 participation in ETD ecosystem the participation percentage the reveal the significant uh disparities between the G20 and the nonG20 countries in electronic thesis and dissertation submission rate the highlighting the digital divide in academic research accessibility Thank you. And as you know the there are the met harvesting pattern the massive repository the patient the developed econ economic the participation from the developing nations the start the construct of the metadat harvesting the re the systematic differences between the in the digital infrastructure in the in our world and uh I think if we if we participate more and more in Our NLT repositories mainly for the metadata. We can know what are the research outputs are there around the world and we can search in in through the our in repositories as a institution the capacity between the economic blocks and what are the economic power the drive theos the dominance the global GDP control there are the G20 countries they represent 85% of the world gross the the domestic products and TD leadership the 75% of the international trade flow the through the G20 economics and ETD repository share the 89% of the global ETDs that means that the G20 countries very u it's a supreum of the deposiitories and so also of the globality GDP and the tail leadership the the correlation between the economic state and the research repository presents the demonstrate that the how the financial resources the directly they impact the academic visibility and knowledge dissemination and capabilities. The research visibility reflect the economic and the influence. What the research visibility means the what the research around the world we can see uh throughout the ET repositories and we can full text we can search and we can pl through the uh similarity reports the number tells the story. What are the G20 countries that contribute approximately 89,000 of the all in the ETDs globally the creating a powerful correlation between the economic influence and the research visibility in the digital repositories. These uh concentrations suggest the financial resources technological infrastructure and the instit institutional support system play the crucial role in the academic knowledge preservation and dissemination. Now uh in India there are the no MC thesis are the included in Sangonga but in strategic recommendations if if we include the expand the MP inclusion then maybe the it is also the P research gap in in the ETDs. So we can if you include the MP inclusions the current gap the many nationalities include the master philosophy thesis the creating the incomplete academic records and limiting the research accessibility for the emerging scholars. The including ML thesis would significantly enhance the repository comprehensiveness and the provide the broader access to intermediate the level research contributing the across the discipline. What are the bibl the en the biblo graphic standard? There are the uh many repositories follow the uh different different biblioraphy standards and no standardizations are there. But now in India we are can follow the APA format for integrations of the biblioraphy standard. The implement standards American psychological that means the APA citation format the MLA compatibility also we can use the NC the model language association formatting for the humanities research and ISO standard for the comp complaints they adopt the international organization for the standardizing the biblioraphy protocol. This standard uh standardized biblioraphy record that facilitate a seamless integration across the different academic database and improve the research discoverability and the global scholarly communities. I think if we follow the standard in in a same it is a I think it is a standard more and more and in we in India we also mandate the electronic submission protocol but in future if we if we mandate the all all over the the states all over the from the India also If if implementing the strategy to mandate the electronic submission for protocols then it is the increasing the number of DDS and day by day is very very fast to establish the mandatory electronic submission of the requirement for all the dissertation ensure the comprehensive digital preservation while is the uh reducing the administrative burden on the academic institution. the building the awareness through the academic engagement. There are the mainly the three two are the professional development and knowledge transfer. We know the organized the targeted the workshops conference to promote the ATD awareness the among the academic administrator librarians and research community globally. Then it is it is increasing the the what are the mean the ETDs and how how we can preserve for the future we can a is very necessary and uh that means the professional development as for the professional development in ed repository the development is necessary and it is the one kind of the knowledge transfer also because the tacid knowledge is is transfer to the implicit knowledge also there are the foster international the collaboration through the specialized training programs that demonstrate the best practice in ETDs management of ETDs. Now in conclusion in in the view of the one earth Now that mean that in in in conclusions in view of the one earth one family one future of the slogan of the G20 summit we made the conclude that that G20 countries that play the parrier the pine not the pioneer role to the development of the sustainable world as you know that the G20 members countries represent 87% of the global 85% of the global GDP as the scenary of the global research repository. It also the shown that the G20 member countries play the pioneer role NDLTD play a vital role in the open access initiative in the ETDs and the research data management. So there are the main recommendation is all the there the alld repositories are the valuable resources repository in each country but some national repository not include the empsises it should also the include the in this nationality repositories to make this the comprehensive the repository must provide the biblioraphy records of the uploaded thesis in various international blog format such as APA, MLA, ISO 690 etc. Then we can we can include the as per our our requirement. If we we want APA, if we want to MLA, if we if we want to the ISO 690 and and so on, then it is very easier and and last one is that we encourage the all universities and higher education institution for mandatory uh to submit the electronic versions of thesis and dissertation by researchers, universities into the national repositories with the aim of the academic community worldwide. time to time and thank you I ending my session. >> Okay. Uh we thank you for such an interesting presentation that gives an overall vision of what's happening all over the world. And so I think this is very important. Uh I'm very happy because I was my university was one of the founders of BDTD, the Brazilian National Consortium. I'm very glad you mentioned it. So let's open for questions. I have been checking the chat. I didn't find any questions on the chat. So you have any oral questions just to ask. I believe our presenter is going to be very glad to to answer. Well, I believe we don't have any more questions uh or any questions. So, I invite you to go to the closing ceremony so we can see people who is going are going to have received the awards. Okay. Thank you very much. It was very nice to be at the conference.
