Because I'm not just Peter Parker, I'm Spider-Man. [music] Spider-Man: Brand New Day came out and I want to talk about it with you guys. I've done videos on all the Spider-Man movies so far. I did a video where I watched every single Spider-Man movie before No Way Home came out and then I did a video on No Way Home. And now a couple years later, we are talking about Brand New Day. Obviously, when No Way Home came out, it completely reset the entire system for what Spider-Man was going to be. >> You're going to forget who I [music] am. >> What? What are you talking about? not only within the MCU and the universe of the Avengers and the crossover movies, but also Spider-Man himself and Sony's Spider-Man. We're not going to get into the logistics of Sony versus Disney because I know a little bit. I don't know enough to really have an opinion on that. >> And I understand Spanish to a certain level. >> Oh, London. But No Way Home comes out and obviously at the end of No Way Home, everybody in Peter Parker's life forgets that he is Spider-Man. So everybody in the world forgets that he's Peter Parker is Spider-Man because that was the whole pivotal moment of No Way Home is that they all knew that Peter Parker was Spider-Man and it was ruining his life and his friends lives. The spell happens. It also opens portals to the multiverse and then starts inviting people finding Peter Parker with into his universe. And No Way Home is actually going to be a very prevalent and important movie to watch and know before you watch Avengers Doomsday that comes out at the end of this year. No Way Homes, and we are kind of left questioning what Brand New Day is going to be about until we start getting hints there's going to be this mystery character. This is going to be a grounded Spider-Man movie. He's not going to other planets. He's going to stay on Earth. It's not going to be about the multiverse. It's going to be about that friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and what he does now now that he's alone, which kind of takes you back to the original Spider-Man story within Tobey Magcguire Spider-Man or even The Amazing Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield, even within the first Tom Holland Spider-Man Homecoming. We already know that Iron Man knows who Peter Parker is. He knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. And so there's already this sense of anonymity that is removed from the character of Spider-Man, which is very important to Spider-Man's development as a character and what he struggles with alone and this responsibility that he faces to help everybody even though he's by himself. And so when trailers came out for Brand New Day, everybody was obviously very excited. The movie was directed by Dustin Daniel [ __ ] [ __ ] who also did Shani and this was kind of a very big movie for him to get because it takes a lot of pressure. Every single Spider-Man director is really under the microscope when it comes to how they approach Spider-Man, the beloved like princess of the people, like the people's princess. Like Spider-Man is an equivalent of like Princess Diana to like superheroes. like he is like this protected class that like when you do Spider-Man wrong, it really does upset people because he just feels like your friend. Like there is something about him that people just love so much and it's not like the other superheroes. I don't know how to explain it. It's this like nostalgia, but then it's like all superheroes essentially have this um bakedin nostalgia for audiences that majority of people that really are big fans of superhero movies nowadays. I would say majority have this nostalgia baked into it. Whether they grew up with the movies or the comics or the cartoons, they have this attachment to it. And even though Spider-Man is that for people, I think there is something that just transcends even just nostalgia. I think it's his character and what he represents and and this relatability of Peter Parker and that no matter who you are, you can kind of see yourself in him. Whereas characters like Iron Man or Thor or even Black Widow, there's a sense of distance from those characters where you can't fully relate to them because they're on a different level. Whether that's class, whether that's, you know, species of like a god or something. Whereas Peter Parker, it's like not only could you imagine yourself as Peter Parker, you know the Peter Parker, you know the awkward, shy guy. And there's something about it that makes you want to root for him. There's something about Peter Parker that I do think Peter Parker could commit mass murder. And I don't know how many people would turn on him and maybe we'll get to that point. Now, let's talk about Brand New Day. Okay, Brand New Day comes out and this is supposed to be this renaissance of Marvel. We know the X-Men movie is confirmed. Avengers Doomsday confirms that you're going to have the crossover between the new Avengers and Fantastic 4 and X-Men, but you're talking about the OG X-Men from uh the early 2000s. But there's an official X-Men movie coming out within the soon years, 2028, 2029, something like that. So Satie Sink in this movie plays Jean Gray and not a lot of people know this. I love X-Men. I am pro like I love X-Men so much. >> Gosh, I love movies. >> It is something that I ride or die for that like even if they do release a bad movie and they have, I ride for them. Like I I really can't turn on them like that. Like they're my friends. Please, that's my friend. He's throwing up, >> please. Like, he's my friend. >> And so, when I heard rumors that Sadie Sink was going to be playing Gan Gray, I was very excited, but I was also very terrified because Gan Gray has already been done twice. And it seems to be like both times they missed the mark and misunderstood her character. And I was really worried about a new rendition of her character because she has this Wanda Maximoff level of lore and power and it's just such a big story. Like Jean Gray has such a huge story and it felt like within both renditions of her character prior minimized that and it feels like they didn't really understand how big her story could really be about not only her powers. I feel like sometimes it was really reduced to her powers. It didn't really understand the emotional uh impact and the emotional weight of her character. Brand day follows Spider-Man as a helper. He helps the police. He helps catch bad guys and he minds his own business. He has decided obviously at the end of No Way Home when he goes up to MJ in the doughnut shop to not give her his letter. And now we see that it's been almost 4 years since that happened. He sticks to being fully anonymous, not showing anyone his identity, not even his friends, not other superheroes, not the cops, not nobody. So, nobody nobody at all knows who Spider-Man is. And he is a loved participant of the city, which is a really great switch up from No Way Home where he was like so so hated. It was a really nice switch up, but it was this bittersweet like thing cuz he was so praised by the public, but so isolated and alone. Something we also see when he has the conversations with Detective DeWolf is that he's suffering from the weight of the job. He's injured. He's getting these headaches. He's pushing himself to limits. He's going to every crime stop. Like, he's making sure that he's always there to save the day, and he's feeling the weight of it physically and mentally. We also have another character featured heavily within this movie. We have the Punisher, Frank. I never watched the Punisher series and I don't know if I will. The only scenes that I have seen from The Punisher are so traumatizing even just a clip. I don't know if I can take it, but I liked him in this movie. We're at the point with Peter Parker where he's finally feeling this pull towards Ned and MJ again because they have moved back to New York City. So, I really want to talk about the housewarming party scene. And in the party scene, he sees that Ned is obsessed with Spider-Man because obviously he would be. And he is told by Ned that Ned is obsessed with Spider-Man because Spider-Man has saved him and his friends a couple of times and that he really wants to be able to thank him face to face, which is like such a Ned thing. And so as he's talking to Ned, MJ walks in and MJ is gorgeous. She's like more mature. She's, you know, she looks like she went to college. like the whole thing. In the party scene, MJ is talking about how she just turned down a job and then she doesn't want to work for a Solless Corporation and she wants to like go off to do bigger and better things and her and Ned like cheers to that. And then this guy comes in, this beautiful, gorgeous, handsome man comes into the frame and he's really stunning and beautiful and attractive. >> She's got a point. And of course, it's MJ's boyfriend. And Peter Parker witnesses MJ kiss another man while wearing the necklace that he gave her. That is also broken. Which begs the question why she wears a broken flower necklace. It begs the question because she also doesn't wear it in every scene. So, she's purposely putting it on. But why? How's that going to work? >> Why would you wear something broken if you don't understand the sentimental attachment to it? Is maybe there's a part of you that still remembers. Oh. Oh, now I'm the bad guy for saying that. Oh my god. Fine. [ __ ] me, I guess. >> Why am I getting so much backlash? >> And so obviously Peter is distraught by this. Heartbroken. Heart on the [ __ ] heart fell out of my ass. like crumbled up, disintegrated, blipped out of [ __ ] time and space. Heart just literally gone. And he's literally like [ __ ] running away, falling off buildings, just [ __ ] sad as [ __ ] And this moment of anxiety, depression, this [ __ ] major crash out over MJ being in a relationship with another guy triggers his spike in his spider DNA because it's triggered by stress and anxiety and traumatic events. And then after this moment, he passes out in his loft and wakes up in a spider cocoon. I would say it's a cocoon and has no memory of what happened that night. He also sees as he falls out of the cocoon that webs are now coming out of his wrists and not through a device attached to his suit. And the world has really waited for this. I think this was a really, really, really big deal to bring back for Spider-Man. But it's like it comes at a cost, right? because it comes with the heightened DNA and that darker side of Spider-Man coming over like we saw within Tobey Magcguire Spider-Man and you know that he's got webs coming out of his armholes. He's got fully blacked out eyes. He also has a even more heightened sense ability if that was even possible. So when he goes outside, he's overstimulated by everything. He was actually having like a major panic attack by being so overstimulated. Thank you. That was enough. One is enough. I'm okay, actually. Thank you. That was really good. No, that was really good. I'm good. Thank you. Thank you so much. And so this whole process is him trying to figure out what's going on and trying to figure out how to stop it. But before he can, he gets called into another mission to Oh my god, I completely forgot about the whole like villain thing that's happening. >> Okay, so there's some education that needs to be done. I can see that. Oh, also while all this is happening, there was like a crime that he stopped earlier on where this tank was going to the damage control center which we had seen earlier that was taking all the supernatural or like super villains that Spider-Man had been capturing and putting them into like a detention center uh and trying to rehabilitate them. And so through this, we also saw that said super villain that drove a tank into the damage control center was actually an old lady and it was actually someone possessing her body. They're trying to get to the damage control center in some way to find something. We don't know what it is yet. And so then a little bad bunny plays and you know he's like he's swinging with his organic webs and we have like you know lots of innuendos to um ejaculation. I thought this was a classy party, >> which is always that's that's actually always what I've wanted. That's actually I've always wanted that and they knew that. They knew that I wanted >> ejaculation inuendos within a Spider-Man movie. I have been saying that. >> I've always said that. >> I've always wanted that and they knew that. So, thanks. I love that. And so Spider-Man goes to this mission using his organic webs and he goes crazy because the person that he's fighting is from a super villain from earlier. >> You sure you want to do this? Scorpion, >> you think I'm Scorpion? >> Scorpion. Scorpio. And he's fighting him and the person is like, >> "You can't tell it's me." >> Because Spider-Man is the only one that was able to sense that there was someone else possessing these people's bodies because he has the Spidey sense. And also, the person that is possessing these people is the only one that can tell that something is happening with Spider-Man and that there's something wrong with him. And in the scene, Spider-Man kind of goes like, >> "Off, >> oh f." Um, and he beats the [ __ ] out of Scorpion. And obviously the person that's possessing Scorpion just like jumps the [ __ ] out cuz that's what I would do. And he also slams the tail on a cop car and the cop car like flips and then like Spider-Man is in trouble because he almost killed a cop. >> Please. Like he's my friend. But it was almost like this like second personality coming out to protect him like similarly to like Venom and how Venom protects. Like it almost was like this defense mechanism that came out when he was not able to defend himself. It like took over and then he went like crazy like Green Goblin mode and he went like and so then he's really sad because then he's like kind of back to being hated because he like lost control. And so what does he do? He goes to the one person that >> loses control. >> Hulk out Bruce. >> Damn. >> Hulk. He goes to Bruce Banner cuz Bruce Banner is professor at the Empire State University and he is teaching lessons as Bruce Banner. And he's also shown that he's made an inhibitor for his Hulk DNA that he basically quiets down the big guy. The sun's getting real low, big guy. >> The sun's getting real low. >> And that is why he's able to teach and he doesn't have to worry about it. And he lives such a great life. And Peter Parker is asking him about the inhibitor because he wants to be able to make an inhibitor for himself to minimize the amount of spider DNA that is turning him into this darker version of himself while also keeping the good parts of the spider DNA that helps him fight crime and be Spider-Man. And Bruce Banner is like, "Girl, I don't know. How do you determine what's good DNA and bad DNA? >> How would you decide what parts of nature are good or bad?" >> And what if you made a universal inhibitor? That could be a very crazy thing that could take away anybody's powers. >> I don't think so, honey. >> I don't think so, honey. I don't think so, honey. >> I don't think so, honey. I don't think so, honey. >> I don't think so, honey. >> I don't think so, honey. I don't think so, honey. I I don't think so, honey. I don't think so, honey. >> I don't think so, honey. >> I don't think so, honey. a universal inhibitor that could be used on a mutant like Spider-Man and a mutant like um uh Gan Gray. Um >> that could be detrimental. >> Right, right, right, right, right, right. This is going to be a very big problem later. Very big problem later. But let's stick to what's happening now. I was always really interested in Bruce and Hulk in terms of Peter casting a spell to wipe everybody's memory because technically if Bruce doesn't remember him that would wipe Bruce's memory of Peter Parker but would it wipe Hulk's memory of who Peter Parker is? And that was always a really interesting part to me. And I don't know if it's confirmed or not within this movie. I'll get into the scene later where I think it's confirmed. So Peter goes to make the inhibitor and he succeeds and he's able to quiet down some of the spider DNA that's going on. And so he puts back on his like web shooters because the organic web shooters and the like uh external web shooters can't work simultaneously. So he puts back on his like the OGs and he's like having a good old time. It doesn't really work. He falls out of this building. He's like what the [ __ ] And then he runs into the villain. And the villain is basically saying, "I know you're Peter Parker and I'm actually in your apartment right now going through all your stuff. And I also know who MJ is and I know where she lives and I'm going to go get her because you keep getting in my [ __ ] way, bitch." And also, I know you're going [ __ ] crazy and you're coming to the dark side. I can tell. I can tell. And so this is a big race to go get MJ. and he's going through the city and through this scene of him trying to chase the villain hopping, they call it hopping where they basically hop from each person, he realizes that there is a science to this hopping and that there's actually a maximum distance that this person can hop from person to person on. [music] And then Spider-Man goes to get MJ and convinces her to come with him. She's hesitant. I'm hesitant, but she goes along nonetheless. I did try to wear a little bit of an MJ inspired outfit within this video and I tried to curl my hair a little bit to make it wavy and like do the little like I tried, you know, I tried my best and you know, like it it really is like a fail fail situation when you're trying to dress up as any Zenaia character. Like you're really setting yourself up to fail nonetheless. She was just wearing white button up and she had her hair pulled back. And so I tried my best and you know like like when ugly [ __ ] calls you twin like just [ __ ] stop like just actually stop. Like it's not funny. So he gets to MJ. He convinces her to come with him. He takes her to a safe space but they get down for a second. And honestly I think that I I don't know if I was tripping or not. >> Confirm or deny. >> Why was I thinking that this was the same spot the end of Madame Webb happened at? What? Why am I getting so much backlash? >> Her web does connect them all. The scene where MJ and Peter are by the big sign. It was I don't know if I just am stupid, but it reminded me exactly of the Madam Web ending shot with the fireworks. [screaming] He's on the rooftop. They're, you know, having this little debacle. MJ's like, "What the heck is going on?" And then she starts saying this and she's like, and she's like, "It just doesn't make sense, unless I know you. I must know you. You must know me." And she starts going on this rant. Why would Spider-Man save me and my friends so many times? It just makes I must know you. And she's like connecting the dots. She goes up to him and she's like, "Should let me do something." She lifts up his mask and [music] then kisses him. Oh my god, >> I love good news. Love good news. I just love good news. >> The crowd goes wild. We're hearing screams, gasps, a ooze. That's what I'm hearing from the crowd behind me. And I feel like the one kid in the room that knows Santa is not real at Christmas. Oh my god. >> Life does not Oh my god. Oh [music] my god. I I'm hearing those genuine shocks of of enjoyment behind me. I said, "Oh my god, guys. I don't think you understand what's about to happen. I I I don't think you guys know the doppelganger possession switch plot twist like me. Oh, no, no, no. Y'all didn't watch Vampire Diaries. Oh, okay. You don't you don't you you don't understand how many times they've tried to fool me with this. She kisses him. She pulls back. This is Peter. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my [music] god. This [ __ ] is crazy. And I know Tom Holland gets so much slack for his acting. >> The feast is done >> in this scene. I was about to cry for him. The tears, the relief you feel. It It really does feel like this person has been alone. and not just alone for ages as an anonymous Spider-Man, but just alone in general with no person at all. And the relief you see in his face when he realizes that MJ remembers him. Oh my god. And he hugs her and it's like it's like breathing again. You hear that [ __ ] You hear MJ say, "Go ahead, Peter. touch her. [screaming] >> SORRY. >> WOW. Oh my god. >> She felt exposed, vulnerable like a fool. >> Oh my god. >> And it it was one of those moments where I hated being right. I did. I hated being right. It you know, I felt the collective shock as that happened. It was it was it was heartbreaking. It was heartbreaking. And Peter calls her a monster, which in a sense, what she does in this moment is so nasty. It's actually so nasty and rude. And like I was like, wow. Like that is gnarly. Oh my god. And then they have this whole conversation where she's talking and she's like, "You don't really know what being alone is, do you? Don't you don't know me. You don't know me and what I've lost." There's no sign of you in this brain, Peter Parker. She does not think about you. She does not care about you, but you already knew that. And like Peter goes dark on her. Goes dark on her black eyes. Get out of her. And then she does this like crazy move. She kicks the [ __ ] out of him and like dives to the ground. And you know us Spider-Man fans, like every single time a love interest of Spider-Man falls off a building, we are going to act like the world is ending. Even though we know they can't do it again, like after Amazing Spider-Man with Gwen and Spider-Man, like you can't do that again. And especially No Way Home where Andrew Garfield Spider-Man has to rewrite his wrong by saving MJ. >> Are you okay? >> Yeah. Even though I know in my heart of souls that it just can't happen again. Like they cannot like not only because it would just be rude and disrespectful. It's like that moment has it's like it's like copyrighted by that Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy. Like even if it was Gwen Stacy, you can't redo that again. And so obviously he's like, "Oh fuck." And then he goes and he grabs her and he saves her and then she's knocked out. He's like, "Oh my god, MJ, no. MJ, no. No, no, no, no." And then you see a car pull up and then um the person talking to Spider-Man and basically being like stay the [ __ ] away from me because I'm always going to find you. I'll find that I'll find that little friend of yours too. And then they drive off. But in that time you're able to like his little like tech is his meta glasses meta record that his metagasses record and are able to detect that a face within the car and he does research on it. And guess what? Jean Elaine Gray. >> Who is that? >> That's Jean and him. >> So, it's Jean Gray. Oh, I also forgot to mention that Yolena is also in this movie. Peter goes to her for help on what this like possession hopping person is doing within New York City, what they want with damage control. If she has any intel on that, she kind of says that's your business. That's small potatoes. I deal with the big potatoes. That's what the new Avengers do. Which I guess kind of is kind of an explanation of why Spider-Man didn't help out in the Thunderbolts movie with Sentry and him like voiding the entire city. Big potatoes. He doesn't deal with that. And Elena is confirmed within this movie as the new Black Widow. All the information that she has is that there's a bunch of people, like 13 different people that all looked up the same thing within these damage control centers, which was VMAX, whatever that mean. And then now that Gan Gray is not possessing MJ, he takes MJ to a safe place. Where is the safe place? The Punisher's place. We're at Frank's place. And he asks Frank for help if he can help him out. And they have this really amazing banter. They have actually in a really amazing banter throughout the entire movie. It's his back and forth and their differences and the way they want to go about things. I liked that it was almost a character that didn't overshine Peter Parker because I feel like a lot of the times within the in Spider-Man with especially the MCU Spider-Man is that a lot of their cameos actually end up taking the spotlight away from Peter Parker. Whether that's Iron Man, whether that's Doctor Strange, you have a lot of different characters kind of fighting for the spotlight and it feels like they just overpower the scene. I just felt like it was different and I felt like it complimented the movie a lot better and did feel like a supporting role and not this big huge cameo that overtakes what Spider-Man is and what Spider-Man is doing cuz it's a Spider-Man movie, right? It's not the Doctor Strange movie. Spider-Man tells him his plan. He wants to use a universal inhibitor on Gan Gray to, you know, um to turn off her powers. Basically, he also wants to make one for himself so he can focus and use his powers like he normally does. And he ends up making them at Frank's place. This boat MJ actually helps him make it. I think they do a really good job at showcasing Peter's eyes throughout this movie. There's always a hint of his real eyes showing through the mask because I think in this movie, it's the movie that he's masked the most. In the other movies, he has a bunch of time where his face is shown and he's doing the double identity where in this movie, he does have a lot more time where he is masked. And I think that they showcase his eyes and his eye movement within the movie a lot better. So, even in this scene when MJ is helping him with the inhibitor, uh, she holds his face and you can see his eyes looking into MJ's. And I think it's such a sweet, sweet scene and it just is such a great utilization of creating intimacy and connection even through a masked hero. And I thought that was really amazing that they were able to showcase that in such a real way, right? cuz like MJ would be able to see some of his eye, right? A little bit. And so I thought that was a really cute way to show that a little bit of connection that he's feing for even. So once he gets the inhibitor to work, he also catches a location for where Jean Gray is. Jean Gray is going to the damage control center, of course, another one. They have like a bunch of different centers. He gets there, he's like, "Hey, Jean." Jean's like, "Hey, you better not get in my way. I'm about to blow this [ __ ] up." And then he's like, "You can't do that. like you're not getting through that door. And she's like, "Maybe I can't, but he can." And oh my god, the [ __ ] Hulk walks through the door. Walks is a light way of putting it. He storms. It's been a while since we've seen Hulk to the extent of what people wanted from the Hulk. The Hulk is such a beloved character and it really I think over the um movies that he's been shown in, you kind of get that full character arc of where he's going. I really like the Hulk story. Would I have loved to see an origin story? Yes, I would have because I do love Hulk. I love the Edward Norin Hulk. Like I I do I do love that movie. But he comes in and they have this scene and obviously Frank ends up coming as well and it's this big fight scene. It is such a good scene between not only Spider-Man and Frank, but it's also the Hulk. He goes back to Bruce Banner and then he kind of is like tripping about what's going on and then he like transforms fully into Hulk and Jean Greg can't penetrate the Hulk's mind anymore because he's so strong. He's so his mind is so powerful. And it's this amazing amazing scene. We also get like I love when Peter Parker is fighting like a really big monster. One of my favorite scenes is in The Amazing Spider-Man when he's spa when he's fighting uh Dr. Curtis Connor, not the YouTuber, um in lizard form and he like crawls over him like a little spider and they do a similar scene like that in this with the Hulk and I love it. I loved how they showcased how strong Hulk is and within this scene as well. I think they really expand on it to fully showcase his capabilities because I think over the years, especially with something like Infinity War and Endgame, uh, you don't really see the full potential of Hulk and how scary he can actually be. I think that Infinity War and Endgame's problem is what they do to Hulk's character. I think they really do water it down. them. I really like Brand New Day because it showcases both Bruce Banner and a fully uh like fully Hulk Hulk. Hulk is about to kill Spider-Man. He is really about to kill Spider-Man. And in that moment, Spider-Man tells him, "I'm your friend. I'm Peter Parker. I'm your friend." And Hulk has this realization in this, which is my confirmation that Hulk remembers who Peter Parker is even though Bruce Banner doesn't. Right. Right. Walk with me here. Walk with me. And then Hulk stops and he's got all like the webs that are attached to the building and he basically just like falls off the roof to kill himself even though it's not possible. Frank opens the door where all the damage control employees are in. Gene is with him. Jean's like, "Where is my sister? >> Where my sister? >> Her sister? Here's her sister. >> Where the [ __ ] is my sister?" And just as Frank's about to kill them, Peter Parker saves the day and puts the inhibitor on Gene and they capture Jean and take her away to Rose Vital Island. Spider-Man goes back to MJ to tell her the good news that it all worked out. As he walks in, she's holding a letter, aka the letter that he wrote to her in the doughnut shop. And I heard a lot of people saying, "How did MJ know that the letter was directed to her?" Because it doesn't say her name in it. It actually does. Actually does. If you watch the movie, at the beginning of the movie, he does say the words MJ within the letter when he's reading the letter out loud. If you guys paid attention, you would know that. Just kidding. I only caught that on the second watch. I'm just stupid. Anyways, she approaches him with the letter and is like, "What the hell is this bullshit?" She's mad that he didn't tell him and is almost like betrayed that he didn't tell her, right? And then she's like, "I can understand why she loved you, but I don't." She's like, "These memories that you're saying, I don't have any [clears throat] memories of them. I don't love you. I don't even know you. Oh my god. Again, [music] superb acting by Tom Holland within this scene. Just it literally looked like a little dog getting beat the hell up. >> It really did. He looked so so sad and it was really sad to watch. And I saw a lot of people talking about this scene. They didn't like it. They obviously wanted MJ to remember. They wanted her to somehow connect the dots or still want to try with him even if she didn't remember. But she knew that there was a former relationship that they once had. I heard someone say that they wish MJ said, >> "I don't know you, but I want to get to know you." >> I was like, "Bit, what?" Uh-uh. None of you guys watch any of these movies. MJ would never say that. MJ would never say that. Actually, what people sometimes forget about MJ and Peter Parker is that MJ is just as awkward and weird as Peter and that's why they're so cute together. But that's also why it takes them so long in Far From Home to confess to each other, right? Like they're both awkward and they're both weird and and and insecure about some things and they're not smooth with it. Like they're not smooth with it. I'll tell you that. Even if she thinks Peter Parker and Spider-Man is the greatest ever, like, no, she's just not going to. And nobody would. Yeah, her boyfriend doesn't sound the best in this movie, but it doesn't sound like one that you would just drop immediately because this guy used to be your boyfriend, but you have no memory of it. Like, no one would do that. I'm sorry. Like, I know we love MJ and Peter Parker. Like, I love them, too, and I want them to be together, too. I'm a loyalist. I'm true to the heart. That's just not going to happen. If you just have MJ remember soon, it negates the implications and impact of everything in No Way Home. And that's something that Marvel does in so many movies. is they set something up, they make it this grand thing that's so detrimental that has so much impact that they have to prevent from happening and then it happens and then they find a way after to just make it all work out just because they want to continue a story line or they want to move faster to another story line and not really have any repercussions for their characters or their story lines in the future stories. they want to just kind of retcon it and just pretend it didn't happen because it's easier that way. You really have to stand 10 toes down on them. And so I think there's a part within sticking to the detrimental part of that spell and what having to cast that spell at the end of the movie to fix everything what it really meant and that true sacrifice that happens. And I think that is so important to Peter Parker's character to lose that. I think Peter Parker's character inevitably comes with a lot of loss for him to get to the point of Spider-Man and and kind of his like pinnacle of Spider-Man. It comes with a lot of loss. It comes with the loss of Uncle Ben. It comes with the loss of Aunt May. It it comes from this loneliness and this double life that he lives being Spider-Man and so loved and so alone um as Peter. And I think that is really important to his character. And I think that like immediately moving past that would ruin a lot of the setup that they did in that move in this movie specifically and and what it could mean for future movies, right? And then Peter tells MJ that while Jean Gay was in her that she kissed him and that he just wanted to tell her that that happened and that he's sorry. And then she was like, "Yeah, it was weird. I just like don't remember any of that happening. It was like I was in one place and they're the other." And then he was like, "What?" And she was like, "Yeah, I don't remember a thing." And then he was like, "That's weird because like damage control boss said that he remembered something that Jean said to him while she was hopping into him." And then he's on the phone with the Yolena. And then Yolena tells him that she Jean Gray has a sister and that damage control deleted a bunch of files relating to Jean Gray and her sister. >> He's her sister. >> Use her sister. Everybody in these sisters nowadays, wicked. Everybody got a sister. Everybody has a sister. And so he's like, "Frank, I got it all wrong. I have to go save Jean because they're obviously experimenting on Jean Gray right now." And I basically sent her to them to do that. Inhibitor on. Inhibitor on. Cut to Gan Gray at damage control. They're talking to her. She's asking him where her sister is. Where's my sister? We have a little flashback of Jean Gray and her sister. Basically, her sister is older than her. Their mom abandoned them, put them into foster care and couldn't handle raising mutants. Sarah gets taken by damage control and hops into Gan Gray and makes her walk away so she doesn't get captured too. And so this whole time, Gene has been trying to search for her sister and she says that a message that she received from her sister was V-Max. And in this experimentation room that she's in, it's the same one that they used for Sarah. And they are basically forcing her to jump and to hop and how she's doing with her mind. Forcing her so they can study her brain waves and study how her powers work. And basically what they're doing is taking super villains or people with supernatural abilities or mutants or powers or at xyz and studying them and basically trying to either find a way to weaponize them or find a way to fight against them. Right. uh similarly to kind of days of future past with the uh sentinels and stuff like that. Kind of similar because now we're bordering into X-Men territory where the mutant level threat is like the biggest threat to the government and they're trying to figure out a way to u minimize it and honestly minimize their powers so they can't be a victim to them. While they're experimenting on her, she realizes that the message of V-Max that was sent to her was a vent above her that was said ventax, but then some of the tape had come off and it said V-Max. And the damage control boss also said that Sarah sacrifice will be very useful to them. So now she's confirmed that her sister has died and that the last thing that she saw was this room and that vent. And she goes crazy. She goes freaking crazy. She goes so crazy that she goes off the charts and paralyzes everybody within a kilometer rating of Roosevelt Island. Back to Peter Parker. He comes to the damage control center and he's fighting off. He's trying to do all this. Also, while he's fighting, he realizes that all the security guards have this weapon that disintegrates his webs that come from his external web shooters. Gan realizes that he's there and fights him using all the people there. This is a really interesting fight scene. You see him kind of losing and he has really good fight scenes. I think the fight choreography and the way it's shown within this movie is absolutely phenomenal. Like Spider-Man's doing moves that we haven't seen Spider-Man do in ages. And his web shooters break and he's down on his knees and Jean Gay is obviously talking to him and she's like, "Ler, you're a loser. You're alone and you're a loser. And I'm alone and I'm a loser, too. Now, what the hell are we going to do? Like, she's really just taunting him. She's like, "Go away. Just go away. Let me kill this guy." Really? Takes off his mask. He's all bloody. And she's like, "So, who are you? Are you Peter Parker or are you Spider-Man?" And he pulls this. I'm both. And he freaking catches the freaking blade. Oh my god, that was so epic goated move. I actually was like, I salute the Spider-Man. I am a proud supporter of Spider-Man. And it was just this kind of also great like emotional scene of him accepting both sides of himself and accepting that he can be Spider-Man and Peter Parker because within No Way Home, you have this grappling with the fact that he's Spider-Man and he really just wants to be Peter Parker and go to college and do normal things. And then within this movie in Brand New Day, you have him grappling the fact that he cannot be Peter Parker and that he's only Spider-Man and his only purpose to show up for people is to be Spider-Man and to protect people. And in this moment where he accepts that he can both be Peter Parker and Spider-Man and fight off people and he doesn't have to succumb to this darkness and he doesn't have to let this overtake him and he can still save people and he can still fight off bad guys without killing them. Um, and I think it's a really great scene that uh depicts that in a really cool way, right? It's it's amazing fight choreography and he looks amazing in the scene, but it's also a great character moment and a character arc point for him that he uh accepts that about himself and I think that was shown really great and he makes it to Gan Gray. She's like, I'm a lot stronger than I was before. Don't think I can't get into your mind now. And she was kind of [ __ ] I just have to say in in a positive way. like kind of hunting in a positive way. And I loved that about her because I think sometimes in the original Gan in the original X-Men, you kind of see Gan be more like like passive and mousy and stuff like that, which kind of makes sense for where her storyline is within those. You know, she's not tainted by it all. She's not overcome by her past and stuff like that. She does have love and support in her life, right? And so I think this point of just her hatred, I don't know, she was just everything in this. I loved it. And she goes into Peter Parker's mind. He's like, "Come in." And it's this really cute scene between him and May. And we got a little bit of the dialogue prior, but it's about May giving him this talk about the people that love you love you for who you are, not because of your abilities or what you can do for them. It's a really great like monologue performed by Marissa Toé. It's a really great scene to see Gan Gray get to hear that. Um, and Satie Sink does an amazing job receiving it. She doesn't say much within that scene, but I think it just is performed so well. And I really like how Gan Gray and Peter Parker have a parallel storyline of isolation and loneliness. That is really their biggest hardship. you know the loneliness and isolation and also the grief that they face while facing loneliness and isolation which is the hardest battle right Peter says like no matter like what's going on like you don't have to do it alone and she was like but I don't have anyone and he's like you have me >> wow >> you know at the end of the day we're not so different you and I >> he didn't say that but I felt it and as he's saying that Um, he senses something. He's like, "What is that? What is happening?" Oh, it's Frank taking the situation into his own hands. Just what we wanted. Oh, a freaking bazooka comes at them. And Peter saves Jean and uses his body to shield hers from it. And when I saw blood on her hands, oh my god, that was one thing. When I saw blood pooling underneath him, I felt another thing. That was really hard. >> How many people were scared? >> Me, too. I was really, really scared. [music] >> And then Frank takes him to the hospital. Everybody's very sad. New York City is in shambles. SORRY. [laughter] [screaming] >> And then you cut to a scene of Jean Gray watching over Peter and breathing for him while he was in the hospital. Oh my god. Gan Gray, the woman that you are, the woman that you're always going to be at the end of the day. Like I don't think you realize what's about to come in X-Men. I don't think you guys realize what you're you're dealing with with Jean Gray. Like, you don't understand what she's about to do. Like, she can do so much. She can do anything. And then he wakes up and he asks Frank like, "What's going on? Where's Gene? Is she okay?" He asks, he says, "Yes, that she's okay." And that she was doing some voodoo magic on you to keep you going. And now I he was like, "I think she just left." Oh my god. Oh my god. And they have a really cute scene also like Frank and Peter where Frank apologizes for basically almost killing him. And it's it's a really cute scene and and now you see that Peter has you know a friend within Frank and that Frank knows who he is and it's a very very sweet scene between them two as well. And the last scene of the movie, he goes to his, you know, his bodega, if you will, and then he sees Ned there and he goes up to Ned and he says, "Hi." And Ned's like, "Hey." And then he's like, "Oh, you're the guy from the party, your flower guy, Maynard." And then Peter goes, "I'm Peter." and he grabs his hand and then they start doing their iconic handshake and it comes back to Ned. It comes back to Ned somehow. And after they finish the handshake, Ned looks at him and goes, "Peter." End of the movie. Come on. Come on. Come on. Wow. Wow. Wow. And and and theories on this, right? Is it the power of love and friendship and community that really transcends the spell, right? Is it the fact that Ned's obsession with Spider-Man was him pulling towards Peter in a sense that he was trying to remember? Right. Is that is that part of it? Um is it something that Gan Gray did? Is it some Did Gan Gray is she able to, you know, break spells like that? Is she able to penetrate the mind in that way and make it so that Ned remembers? Is she able to do that? Was it Jean or was it the power of love, community, and friendship? Was it that? To be honest, I don't really need an explanation. I really like this movie. I really did not have I did not come out of this movie having critiques for it. I didn't have notes. I just had a really good time. And it's been a while since I've watched kind of a Marvel movie where I wasn't so hooked up on continuity, inconsistencies, uh, characters and how they relate to another. Cuz even with like Fantastic 4, even with Thunderbolts, like there's some parts of those movies where I kind of am like, okay, like how does this really fit in? And I have so many questions for how it fits into the universe. And I think that is also a me problem and kind of a critical part of me that kind of picks things apart, but also like a part of the Marvel world and how a lot of the times some of the movies they've made such a complex world and universe that a lot of the times they shoot themselves in their own foot because they they make something so grand and then they don't really know how to get back to grounded stories. And I think with Thunderbolts and I think Thunderbolts tries to, but it's a little bit harder cuz you're dealing with an ensemble of different heroes and stuff like that and that and you can tell that they're setting up for something bigger. It's hard to make a more grounded story. I think they do a really good job at it and I I actually do really like Thunderbolts with Spider-Man. I think this was a really great grounded movie for movies in general, like as a movie, but also for the universe and the character, which is something that Spider-Man has needed since Homecoming. I think not only do I think it was really good, I think that the MCU needed this before they went into Doomsday. I think that low-key like no Doomsday hype before Spider-Man brand new day. Like like nobody was gagging. Nobody gaffed. Even with Fantastic 4 coming out, I think it did like Okay. Okay. It was like, "Okay, let him cook. Let him cook." But I think Spider-Man really solidified that for people that like Doomsday will be something worth like hyping up, not just watching. I think it's going to be like a really epic moment. I think they needed it. And how does this really affect stuff later on? Like will the inhibitor be a part of Doomsday? Like I don't know. I think that what Peter creates within Brand New Day is going to have like serious repercussions and consequences throughout the rest of the entire MCU and what that means. I think that like you know in the last stand X-Men the last stand like the cure that's made out of the mutant that uh makes your powers go away. That is like the whole plot of it is that they want to go kill this kid because he's could be the reason for their extinction. And right now, Peter got that. Like, Peter got that. Peter created something that could be placed on any mutant and annihilate their powers. I mean, it wouldn't kill their powers like how in The Last Stand, it just completely removes your powers and you can't get them back, but it does disable them, which is a threat to mutants, especially if you're going on the plotline of Magneto, which I'm assuming that you can't make X-Men stories without Magneto. Peter Parker is Magneto's number one op right now. Like, he has to be because like, you talk about disabling anyone's powers, like Magneto going to go crazy.
