The tennis world is facing a significant shock as top seed Yannick Sinner has officially withdrawn from the US Open 2026 due to persistent issues with his right knee. Despite intensive efforts by his team and medical staff, Sinner realized during recent court time in Monte Carlo that he requires more recovery time before competing. In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the Italian star expressed his deep disappointment, noting that New York holds a special place in his heart and that he had been eagerly anticipating the electric atmosphere of the tournament. This withdrawal marks a massive blow to the season's narrative, especially given Sinner's status as the pre-tournament favorite.
The impact of Sinner's absence extends beyond just one player, as it significantly alters the landscape for the remainder of the Grand Slam season. His exit is particularly concerning because players with knee injuries rarely skip major tournaments unless the condition is severe, suggesting a potentially serious underlying issue that could affect his future performance. This development adds to a growing list of withdrawals across both men's and women's draws, including notable names like Bianca Andreescu and Simona Halep on the ladies' side, as well as Karen Khachanov and Fucsovics among the men. With several other top contenders also dealing with injuries or uncertainty regarding their participation, such as Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, the tournament is becoming increasingly unpredictable.
As the list of absentees continues to grow in the weeks leading up to New York, the question of who will claim the title has become wide open. While Carlos Alcaraz is expected to return, his current physical condition remains unknown, adding another layer of mystery to the competition. Novak Djokovic remains a strong contender, but players like Alexander Zverev, who have struggled with form recently, might also emerge as unexpected favorites in this reshuffled field. The situation highlights the fragility of elite tennis careers and the difficulty of maintaining peak health through such a demanding schedule, leaving fans to speculate on how these injuries will shape the rest of the tour over the coming months. Ultimately, the US Open is set to be a tournament defined by uncertainty, with the absence of its top favorite creating a unique opportunity for other players to step into the spotlight.

So, we've got some big news coming out
of the US Open, with a big name pulling
out. Let's go have a look at who pulled
out and what the reason was. So, Yannick
Sinner has pulled out of the US Open,
which is super, super surprising. We
knew that he had a knee injury, but
let's see what he had to say over on
social media. "Even though I've been
working hard with my team and my medical
staff, we've now had to make the
difficult decision that I would not be
able to compete at the US Open this
year. We've been back on court in Monte
Carlo over the last couple of days, and
have realized that I still need more
time to recover from my right knee
issue. I'm obviously very sad and
disappointed, as New York has a special
place in my heart. I was very much
looking forward to coming back and
playing in the electric atmosphere in
front of a great fans there." So,
Yannick Sinner is out, and that is a
massive deal for the rest of the season,
because, you know, players that have a
right knee issue, or any issue at all,
pulling out of a Grand Slam is a huge
deal, and pair that with Alcaraz coming
back, it's very, very interesting to see
what's actually going to happen at the
US Open, and who's going to win the US
Open, because, of course, Sinner was the
favorite going in. Yeah, massive,
massive news. Let's take a look at the
withdrawals overall, because there are
actually a lot of names that have pulled
out over the last couple of weeks. So,
on the women's side, we've got
Andreescu, Baptiste, Muchova, and
Tomljanović all pulling out. Begu pulled
out. Raducanu, of course, has pulled
out. Cristian, Siegemund, and Teichmann
have all pulled out. So, Andreescu is
the big one on the women's side, and of
course, Raducanu, but on the men's side,
we've got Khachanov, he's pulled out.
Nava has pulled out. Fucsovics, he's
also pulled out. Quentin Halys, and now
Yannick Sinner. So, yeah, very
concerning stuff for Sinner, but we've
also got a lot of players that are
coming in injured as well, or at least
have some injuries, with, you know,
players like Rybakina, Bencic,
Svitolina. We don't know what to expect
from Alcaraz. We don't know if Rune is
going to make the trip. So, yeah, expect
expect this list to grow over the next
week. So, Sinner is out of the US Open,
and, I mean, a little bit surprising,
considering that like 2 weeks ago, he,
you know, pulls out of Canada, which we
all kind of expected. He pulled out of
Cincinnati, which we thought, "Oh, no,
that's a bit of concern." Now he's out
of the US Open, and, you know, players
pulling out of the pre-US Open
tournaments, you know, not a surprise,
but pulling out of the US Open, it it's
not just a little issue. It has to be
something that's big because you don't
just skip a Grand Slam because you're
just not feeling 100%. So, yeah, going
to be really interesting to see what
happens with Jannik Sinner going
forward. How bad is this? How you know,
what what does this all mean going into
the next, you know, few months of the
tour because we've still got plenty of
time after the US Open, but I'm going to
leave it below. Who's going to win the
US Open now because without Sinner, you
know, it it's kind of wide open. We've
got Alcaraz coming back, but we don't
know what he's going to look like.
Obviously, Djokovic is still around. Uh
Zverev, who's not been playing well
lately, he might be the favorite. I
don't know, but it's going to be really
interesting to see who can win this US
Open now, but Jannik Sinner is out of
the US Open due to that knee problem.
