Video summary

The video features a reaction by two hosts from their channel Stupid Rex as they watch the official Hindi trailer for *Mirzapur: The Movie*. They discuss that this new installment is neither a direct prequel nor a sequel to the television series, but rather an "equal" story set between episodes of Season One. While acknowledging that Ali Fazal's character appears consistent with his portrayal in the first season, the hosts express mixed feelings about the narrative structure. A primary concern they raise is that because viewers already know which characters will die and who survives by the end of the series, the inherent danger and suspense that made *Mirzapur* compelling are significantly diminished for this specific film format. The conversation shifts to the cast, noting the presence of new faces alongside returning favorites like Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu. The hosts identify some recognizable actors but admit they cannot immediately recall every character name or role within the context of the show's timeline. They speculate that the filmmakers might be focusing heavily on these new characters to create fresh stakes, hoping audiences will become emotionally invested in their fates since viewers do not know if they will survive. However, both hosts feel this approach lacks sufficient novelty for them personally, as much of Ali Fazal's character arc and dramatic trajectory was already established in the original series without offering enough new ground to explore over a two-hour runtime. To illustrate how other franchises have successfully handled similar cinematic expansions, the duo compares *Mirzapur* to examples like *Rogue One*, which introduced entirely new characters before leading into its own saga, and *Creed*, which followed Apollo Creed's son while making Rocky Balboa a supporting figure rather than the protagonist. They also discuss *Breaking Bad*'s continuation film featuring Jesse Pinkman, noting that it functioned as an offshoot story set immediately after the series finale with occasional flashbacks to Heisenberg. The hosts praise these models for introducing fresh narratives or focusing on secondary characters in ways that felt organic and exciting, contrasting this with their preference for a complete origin story where every new character's fate remains unknown until revealed. Ultimately, while they express genuine support for the project given how much they loved the original show, both hosts conclude that the trailer did not sufficiently excite them to seek out the movie in theaters or on streaming platforms at this time. They argue that without introducing a completely fresh cast of characters with uncertain fates, similar to *Rogue One*, the film risks feeling repetitive for fans who have already witnessed the lives and deaths of the main ensemble. The hosts invite their audience to share their own thoughts in the comments section regarding whether they are excited for this new chapter or if it feels like a missed opportunity compared to other successful spin-offs that expanded universes through original storytelling rather than retreading known territory.

Welcome back. Today we got the uh new trailer content. >> Today we got the new trailer for the Miser movie. >> I think we saw I think it was a teaser a little a couple weeks back, right? >> Yep. And it looks like I believe maybe I'll double check in the comments here. >> It looked like it was taking place in between seasons, right? Before people were dead. >> Well, yeah, unless we have a multiverse. >> No, I don't think that's it. Um but that Do you remember that? Yeah, vividly. I remember being flumxed to coin a word. I was flumxed. My for clumped. My gobbers were smacked. >> All right, let me see. It's uh not an alternative view. It takes the place between season one episodes. Uh >> in between episodes of season one. >> Yeah. uh as Compounder and Ali Fisel's love interest is still alive cuz both die at the end of season one. >> I'm not a fan of that. I don't think >> but I mean it's novel. It's original, but I'm I don't I don't know that I like that. There's no danger there. >> I mean, part of part of what makes Mipur good. >> You don't know who's going to >> like most stories is that you don't know how it's going to end. Well, I I know a number of people who will be in that episode who will not die and probably won't have their story trajectory change that drastically because we've seen the end of their story. So, >> yeah, >> that sounds like >> that is one of the dangers with doing something like that. >> Yeah, >> but >> it is fun to I mean I love music. >> Such a great >> I mean it can work. >> It can work. I mean when you do >> needs to be done well >> if you This is not a This is neither a prequel or a sequel. This is a equal All right, here we go. Maharish [ __ ] up. It is fun to see back. HI PAP. There was Hemoglobin. IMPORTANT. IMPORTANT. IMPORTANT. It's kind of crazy how many doses are in there now though. >> I know. That's true. That's true. >> Did you notice some new people? The new people that like >> Mhm. >> I don't know if they're replacing Ali's brother cuz that's >> Yeah. I don't know. >> Um but do you know who it was? >> Did you recognize >> I recognize him. I'm I'm blanking on his name right now. >> I don't You guys tell me. I don't know if they're making that the brother um or if he's a new character. I don't know. But it's the main guy from uh Punchay or the um the secretary. >> Yeah, I'm blanking. I'm I don't remember his name. >> Um the the character's name. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, the the character and the actor. >> Yeah. I don't I don't remember. Um >> I forgot. It's been a while. >> It's they call him not Brahanji. That's the main guy that um it's been a minute. Anyways, that was him obviously and then we saw obviously the the guy from um uh Laades. Yeah. Who's in there now? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Um yeah, obviously the thing we said at the beginning is still there and that that is one of the things I think why a lot of people don't do this type of thing at least that's fully centric on the main characters as opposed to like it's done it before where like you go in between seasons and it's about this more supporting people over here and maybe it is >> right >> because obviously you kind of know or an origin story. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Uh because you kind of know these people's story and who lives and who dies. And that does take some of the >> oomph out of, you know, if they're going to live and die, obviously because we we know when they're going to live and die, some of them, but uh I will say the DNA did seem to be the same. Like Ali seemed to picked up his character where he left off in season one quite well. He looked like he was right out of season one. So I will say that they they captured the tone of season 1. Again, it's just I I I I I agree with you. The the um that element is something to worry about in a movie that, you know, you're going to be there for probably over two hours. Uh and at least for our main people, we know who is not going to die and who is going to die. >> Yeah. And >> so, you obviously have to get attached to these other people that we don't know if they're >> Sure. And beyond that, the Cuz I I know I I'm not rooting for it to not do well. I want it to do well and we loved Merzipur and if they're making a movie would be rooting for it to do well, but in addition to what you said, what's new? Uh, yeah, we know he counts as thrusts. Yeah, we know Ali Fisel is a hotthehead and he's a drug addict. Yeah, we know he's going to have people kill people and don't disrespect his son. Yeah, we know his wife is going to try. They're just the predominance of it was like, yeah, I saw that in season one. >> Mhm. So, what a apart from the new characters, that's not that for me, that's that's just not enough for me to want to go to want to go see it. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Uh I'm my assumption is that we're going to focus a lot more on our new people um like the guy from it looks like um Laades. I forget the actor's name, but we very good. >> He's he's a very talented actor. Um, yeah, I I assume they will also explore some elements of certain characters that they didn't. Um, and obviously I think they were shown they were like you stated, showing some of the greatest hits of like remember this element of this character blah blah blah blah blah. Yeah. >> But you get Rika Durgle in there. Um, >> oh, you got a whole lot of really talented actors, that's for sure. you'd hope that they would be exploring more elements and I assume they would obviously they're professional writers and so they they know that they need to get new things and and stuff like that. Um but one of the things that held Mirs of Pur season one together was the danger same with Game of Thrones. >> Yeah. >> Was the danger of no one's safe. >> Mhm. And I already know the majority of the people in here are safe, which takes the teeth out of the show >> for me. >> Um, yeah. So, I'm assuming they're going to try to get you attached to these new people that you don't know if they're going to be safe. >> For me, I would have preferred them do a complete origin story >> of somebody in the world. >> Yeah. Of just like one of them rising and then seeing them all when they were like born like they did with Godfather. just take it all the way back. All the way back. So that every character that's introduced is a brand new character except for your primary character. And you know that person's going to make it, but you're going to see what they're going to do and what they're going to go through and who these new people are that are going to are they going to live. Are they going to die? Um so yeah. Yeah. When have we I feel like we've seen it before. Um where they go back Obviously Star Wars did it with Rogue One, but it's really just a original new story. Rogue One's a great examp if you haven't seen it, please go watch it. If you haven't seen the originals, watch those first. Um although you could watch it and then go right into the originals. >> That's why that's one of the reasons why Rogue One was so good. >> Yeah. Because they were focusing on basically all new characters. All new characters. There were some that mentioned before. >> Yeah. And then you kind of occasionally just let somebody bleed in and bleed out. That's part of the origin story, part of the original story that you know. I didn't see it. I heard it was actually decent. Um, but I didn't see the movie of Piggy Blinders. >> Neither did I. >> I think that takes place after >> after. I think it's a continuation. >> I think it's a continuation. >> Me, too. Which is wonderful. >> Um, so >> which I also didn't see Stranger Things, but that's what that was. That was a continuation. That was actually the series continuing >> season. That was it was a full season. It wasn't a movie. Yeah. I'm thinking of like >> series that did a movie because that's not an uncommon thing for popular shows to end on a movie. >> Um, another good example that they that they did as an offshoot. It's a sequel, but it's an offshoot. Creed. >> Yeah. Offshoot. >> That was a very well done. >> It's not a sequel. It's a It's you you follow the new character and Rocky becomes a supporting character and it becomes Apollo Creed's son. >> Did that Mash did it? No. >> Or was that a completely new thing? >> I never saw the movie. I've only seen the series. >> I never saw the movie either. And that would be odd because the series really closed itself up. >> Breaking Bad did it, but it was a once again it was a continuation. >> It was a continuation >> of Jesse. It was Jesse's story. >> Jesse. >> Wait, hold on. Did they go back for that one though? >> I don't recall. There may have been a flashback with a scene to have Brian Cranston appear. >> I think it was actually flashback. I think it was a full-on >> Was it an origin story for Jesse? >> Yeah, it wasn't origin, but I think it was one of his offshoot missions that wasn't um correct me if I'm wrong here because I've only saw it once and it was it was fine. uh that movie I think it was something like this where it was not something that was done in the show but it was a mission or something. Maybe I'm wrong here. I think it was a mission cuz Heisenberg I believe still came back for a small thing at the end. Did you see? >> I don't remember. Yeah, I did when it once when it came out. >> Same. So maybe that's something that >> it was I thought it was fine. >> Yeah, same. Yeah. Uh maybe that's what they're going for. Something also am I wrong in that? Is it or was it completely after? >> No, it couldn't have been cuz the end of Breaking Bad is very obvious, Don. Yeah, it's it ends. >> So, it has to be, >> but it ends it has to be in the middle. >> Without giving spoilers away, it ends differently for Jesse than it does for Heisenberg. Breaking Bad ends differently for those two. Okay, so no, we're wrong. Uh, Breaking Bad One is a continuation of Jesse's story immediately after the series finale. But didn't we see Heisenberg? >> I thought it was. There may, like I said, I think there was a flashback sequence in that sequel. >> Okay. >> Cuz it's Jesse's life post his time with Heisenberg. >> Yeah, I am when I saw that once when it came out. >> And we're now what I'm about to give is an example of a television series having its own spin-off. >> Yeah. One of the best spin-offs is Better Call Saw. >> Yeah, of course. >> That was a fantastic idea and just executed so so well. >> Yeah, I agree. >> The origin story of uh >> Anyways, you guys let us know what you thought about it, if you're excited for this and anything else we need to know down below. >> The biggest, the baddest, wackiest, funniest, filmiest show on earth.
