After years of planning and development, the Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum is officially open. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new facility near Camp Ripley took place on Saturday. Our reporter, Xavier Curry, shows us what the new museum hopes to preserve for generations to come. >> The Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum is starting a new chapter with its doors officially being open to the public. >> [cheering] >> What it means is it's a new chapter and honoring our veterans here in the state of Minnesota. You know, the men and women who have served this state since the Civil War through present day. It's a It's a new chapter. It's a brand new space to fill and tell stories in and to gather around and rally around. So, it's it's a really good day for Minnesota and excellent day for veterans and we're happy to be here. >> The new museum sits on a 32-acre campus just outside the gates of Camp Ripley. Inside, visitors can explore Minnesota's military history through immersive exhibits, interactive galleries, restored vehicles, and aircraft, and more than 25,000 artifacts. >> Well, for one thing, you can hear veterans in their own words. So, a lot of video kiosks of veterans speaking about their experiences across conflicts. Two really well-done and impressive immersive theaters, one on December 7th and another on September 11th. So, two key milestones in military and American history. >> For visitors, the grand opening offers a chance to experience that history first hand. Saturday's celebration included military vehicle displays, living history demonstrations, and a national service resource fair.
