Hello everyone.
Grab your coffee or your tea or your hot
chocolate
or maybe even your popcorn
and take a seat.
Today we're going to talk about how
millions of people out there are
starting to lose hope and why that is.
Because I've been thinking about the
past. I've noticed how things have
changed
and I can see that things haven't
changed for the better.
I've been thinking about the early 2000s
and maybe the early 2010s.
I've been reminiscing.
I've been thinking about past
experiences,
the good old days,
back when things were more pleasant,
because things felt more human back
then. People would show up to your
house. They would knock on your door or
they would agree to meet you at a time
or place. And we'd engage in collective
activities. We'd share a collective
experience,
an event or situation that we shared
simultaneously,
which fostered a deep sense of social
connection, community, and belonging
because it created mutual context and
shared memories.
So, we lived in the moment
because we weren't reachable 24/7.
So, when we were out with friends or
family, we were entirely present.
People connected in real life. They
didn't just connect online.
But now, if you go to some of the parks
or gyms that you used to go to, they're
completely empty
or they've just gone away.
Fuel was much cheaper back then. You
could go places easier.
Food was a lot cheaper.
And people didn't have smartphones.
So their head wasn't constantly looking
down. They were looking up and
interacting with the world. And I'm sure
you can remember when Blockbuster Video
existed and video stores.
It used to be a big deal just to go to
the video store and take out one or two
movies.
And that is exactly what made those
movies so special rather than having
access to thousands of movies that you
can stream online.
And I think that same thing is happening
to our relationships.
There's something called the paradox of
choice.
If a person has too many choices, it
starts to give them anxiety.
It gives them FOMO.
They start to feel like they're
constantly missing out on something.
So, our modern life is robbing us of
happiness because there's too many
choices
where there used to be a time when you
would just have a small group of people
that you're connected to, maybe just two
or three friends.
Now, we have thousands of friends on
social media, but those friendships are
not deep.
They're not real connections.
And I think a lot of the anxiety in the
world that we can all feel is from
technology
to the point where we are all
experiencing grief that the old world is
dead. We're grieving the loss of the
simpler way of life that we used to
have.
It was simpler and more connected even
just 15 or 20 years ago. And we're
grieving that loss of connection. We're
grieving that loss of hope
and we're grieving a loss of meaning in
our lives.
I'm an introvert so it doesn't affect me
that much
because I prefer deeper connections. And
if there aren't any, I don't mind
staying in because I can create my own
meaning. I can strengthen my connection
with myself. So I don't really need
anyone for that. I've already spent most
of my life alone, and I don't ever look
back and think that I've missed out on
anything.
There's nothing anyone could give me
that I haven't already given to myself.
But I also like having a couple of deep
friendships. I like meeting people
outside for a few hours because I think
it's important for us to connect to
people.
But for a lot of people, those things
have disappeared.
And that is why we're all talking like
this.
It's why videos like this are getting
millions of views each day on YouTube.
Because we're all experiencing this
together. Everyone is struggling to find
real human connection.
We can't find anything that's deeper
than small talk. And that is why I
created this channel.
You can call it a circle of kindness or
a circle of connection.
That's why it exists
because all of the things I've just been
talking about are actually real issues
in our lives.
Now although it can be lonely sometimes
for me
and as I said I don't really have anyone
who I feel I can connect to or have
deeper conversations with when I was
younger people were different. I had
friendships I had girlfriends and people
were more hopeful back then girls were
more innocent and trusted in us as men.
But it's not like that anymore.
And that is why I'm actually really
worried for the people who are growing
up right now.
I'm worried for the young people because
I don't think they have any real human
connection. They don't have it the way
we had it.
I didn't grow up with the internet and
social media.
But I don't know how it's going to turn
out for the younger people
because it is a statistical fact from
statistics on depression and feelings of
hopelessness that all of those things
are going through the roof
which is very scary because even if
older people are struggling to find
friendship or connection there's
typically still some hope left in the
youth.
But if that doesn't even exist today,
and if younger people can't find what we
had at their age, then what chance have
we got? Because humanity as a whole is
more depressed and less hopeful than
when we were cruising around to the
video store or wherever in the early
2000s.
The internet used to be something we had
if we needed it, but it didn't take up
all of our time.
So, we did get out and do things,
but now people are really addicted to
their phones. And a lot of people wish
they could go back in time because
things now feel really fake. And our
purpose as humans is being stolen from
us by technology, which is causing a lot
of fear.
We are afraid of what might happen in
the future. We are afraid for our
children's future or for our
grandchildren's future. We are afraid
for everyone's future.
And even if we did have that sense of
hope we once had, things cost too much,
we're being priced out of everything and
it's just too overwhelming.
Prices have increased so much over the
last 20 years that we're not even able
to get a lot of the things that people
used to hope for, things people used to
work for. It's not even going to be
possible for us to get them. So what is
the point of caring about anything or
hoping for things to get better?
And that's just it.
The moment these thoughts popped into
our heads where we realize things aren't
going to get better and that people
aren't even worth believing in, that was
the moment we lost our innocence.
And that has been replaced with this
painful awareness of human flaws,
limitations, and the reality of
disappointment.
How did it happen?
How did it get to this point?
I think it was driven by human greed.
That's what has taken us down the wrong
path. And I think it's been doing it for
years, maybe even decades.
I think we all want to go back to a
better path, but we can't. Pandora's box
has been opened,
and now we're all mourning the death of
the old world.
While this sense of emptiness has taken
over all of us, and we're just waiting
for the shoe to drop.
But what can we do about it now that
this technology and social media are
already here?
I think the answer is that we must keep
our humanity.
And I think that we do need to go back.
We can't literally go back because of
course the past is already gone now. But
we need to go back to what we used to
enjoy.
We need to go back to meaning. We need
to go back to human connection. We need
to go back to being human. And we need
to spend less time at our phones.
If you are experiencing what I talked
about in this video,
I want you to know that you're not
alone. And that is why we're here
talking today.
So that we can form some kind of
connection. Connection that doesn't seem
to be available in our everyday lives
anymore
because it's just not out there.
