Video summary

You can build an off-grid message board
with 3D printing and electronics from
Adafruit.
This IoT project listens for messages
sent across a Laura network and displays
them on a tririccolor e- in
messages are received over 915 MHz radio
from any node running meshtastic and
displayed with the latest forecast.
It features a stem sensor that reads
CO2, temperature, and humidity. The
onboard button lets you cycle through
three different views. There's the
weather, messages, and nodes that are
received on the mesh.
Powered by the Feather ESP32S3
and an RFM95 Laura radio, this is a
great combo for building a mesh receiver
that runs on battery. The E- In Feather
Friend drives a 4.2 inriccolor display.
The 3D printed case features a kickstand
for a desk and magnets to mount to a
fridge or any magnetic surface.
The code is written in Circuit Python,
so the layout, the sensor readings, and
the weather location are easy to edit.

description.
The enclosure is 3D printed in PLA and
the design is open source. The files are
easy to update and available in the
guide. You can follow the guide for the
full circuit diagram to solder the Laura
board to the Father. The E- In Feather
Friend is secured to a PCB mounting
plate with machine screws. A 2000 millia
lipo battery is held in place with a
retainer. The STEMQT sensor is secured
to the edge of the mount so it has
proper ventilation for sensor readings.
The e- in display is fitted into the
case from the opposite side of the
vents.
The mounting plate slides into the case
and press fits to hold the display in
place.
The ribbon cable has just enough length
to reach the display connector on the e-
in feather friend.
The header pins from the feather press
fit into the e- in friend socket
headers. The Laura board mounts to the
battery holder with additional screws.
The button is fitted in between the
case's internal walls and the cutout.
The Stemmitic QT and battery cables are
plugged into the ports on the Feather.
Magnets are press fitted into the
cavities on the inside of the back
cover. The back cover can then snap fit
onto the enclosure. We hope this
inspires you to build an e- in Laura
project to make an off-grid message
board that comes in handy during storms
or power outages.
