Masters Runner Chasing FKTs in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, Humboldt Humbles the Knees
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The video follows Masters Runner Humboldt as he prepares for and executes a Fastest Known Time (FKT) attempt on a fourteen-thousand-foot peak in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. The footage captures the raw physicality of the endeavor, with Humboldt frequently panting and expressing exhaustion while navigating the rugged terrain. He notes that the mountain range lives up to its name, presenting significant challenges that test even the most seasoned athletes. Despite the grueling conditions, he finds moments of respite and joy, such as hanging out with cows at the start and enjoying a meal of cheeseburger sliders after completing the run.
A central theme of the video is the connection between childhood play and current athletic capability. Humboldt reflects on his youth spent playing street hockey and skating, explaining that these activities built the strong legs necessary for mountain running today. He watches his children learning similar skills in the summer of 2026, drawing a parallel between their development and his own journey. This intergenerational aspect highlights how the spirit of play and physical activity cultivated early on translates directly to high-level endurance sports later in life.
As the storm rolls in and darkness falls, Humboldt emphasizes the importance of appreciating nature's beauty while acknowledging the harsh realities of the environment. He concludes by encouraging viewers to strengthen their legs through active play as children and to maintain a loving attitude toward everyone around them. The video ends on a high note with his family celebrating the successful completion of the FKT, reinforcing the idea that hard work, family support, and a love for the outdoors make these incredible achievements possible.
