The day after Everton progressed to the third round of the Caribell Cup after beating Preston 4n in a fantastic way performance in front of nearly 6,000 Evertonians at Deep Dale. David Moyes spoke after the game and here's him talking about the hat-tick here hero Tiano Barry >> I think some I think he he said he was working with somebody in the summer back home who you know tried to change his mindset a little bit I think that's something that I said he I think he found it really difficult last year which it does for a lot of boys coming in for on the first year from from overseas I think it's even worse if you're a center forward because you know you've got a lot of big decision to make and uh no he's generally he's much better since he come back. And uh I still think I like more if you think of the the one or two opportunities he had and he didn't score. So I'm nearly annoyed that we didn't get he didn't do those ones as well. And I know he get three goals but he got a couple of them really laid on his plate. So uh I wanted to score the other ones as well. >> So David Moyes in very much typical David Moyes style obviously backing the player but wanting a bit more from him as well. But it was a brilliant performance from Tiano Barry obviously getting the three goals getting the assist as well. And yeah, he could have had a couple of more goals, the one-on-one and the header at the beginning of the second half as well. But I think where we've seen this player come from last season now to have four goals already um after the first two games is absolutely fantastic and something we just want to see carry on. David Moyes was also asked about transfer situation and the size of his squad. Uh well, we I think we definitely need to continue to make additions, that's for sure. You know, we thought our squad was quite thin last year, and at the moment, I think we're still one down on if you if you take the way my numbers work out, I think we're one down from from where we were even last year. So, I still think we're shorting the squad and I still think we're short in quality in some places. I need to try and add that. >> Yeah. So, obviously, David Moyes wants more players in. uh doesn't believe the squad's big enough and there seems to just be a general frustration about about him at the moment. Um, we've seen that in all of the press that he's done so far and it must be obviously concerning not getting the players in that he wants so far this summer. We've done some we've done some good deals but yeah there's still there's still deals to be done and um you know we'll have to wait and see on that which we'll come back to in a moment because Everton following the Everton game the draw was made and Everton will face Wolves in the next round at Hill Dickinson Stadium. So Everton get to avenge that defeat from last season in the third round but obviously that was at Molyneu. that game is likely to take place the week following on from the Manchester United game. So, comes around quite quickly the next round. So, um which is probably a good thing. Probably a good thing for Evan. Um and hopefully this time we take it a lot more serious with a lot more of the starting 11 players involved in that game. Uh as we mentioned there, transfer stories. Um the stories around Ilan and Jai leaving Everton football club have intensified today with talk of Manchester City uh looking to open negotiations with the player. This is off the back of the situation with Jackish as well. Jackie yesterday was linked to the move to Sunderland with Sunderland being >> [snorts] >> uh wanting to take the player and then last night talk of Aston Villa possibly wanting to take the player as well. But it's believed that Jackie is just number one preference is to come back to Evan. And it's felt like all summer there has been a deal ready to go around transfer deadline day as Everton um as Evan will have known about his injury because obviously most of his rehab has been done at Finch Farm. So Ev have known exactly how long he was going to be out for and when he'd be back fit. And [snorts] basically they've let just let Manchester City take the burden of that coming back playing preseason game and a couple of uh obviously he was involved in the community shield and he was involved in the first game of the season against Bournemouth for Manchester City. So if ever Evan get in there on deadline day take the player obviously they won't have had to play the wages for him and it's uh and obviously they they know the player but obviously within Jai as well it's sort of yeah it sort of m makes it sort of more interesting of what kind of deal this would look at. I'm sure Evan would be looking if they if if they were prepared to selling Jai would be looking for a high figure whereas Manchester City probably be looking more some kind of swap deal which I don't think Everton would want to do. Um so it's going to be an interesting few days. It could end up that Evan keeping an eye and get Jack Greas because I think that's what the plan is to do but it depends what Manchester City come back with in terms of a deal. Manchester City might be thinking that there's a possibility that they could ruin Everton's chances of getting Jack Gish if they don't get England and Jai. So, we'll have to wait and see who sort of blinks first on this one. And as I said, let let's let's be, you know, let's be just glad that the transfer window does shut now on Tuesday and uh we can get over all this stuff cuz it just seems to be hanging over us the situation with the right back as well. So, uh we'll have to wait and see. And some of our right backs Everton have been linked with Sunderland right back Trey Hume today. 24 year old Northern Ireland international. Played every single game for Sunderland last year in the Premier League. Um seems to be a very steady right back. Done well in his first first year in the Premier League for Sunland. I can't imagine Sunderland be looking to sell the player. Um so this might just be one of those wishful thinking links or Everton might have just inquired just to see the state stat status of the player. Um but Everton are desperate for a right back. You know Merlin Ro played there again last night did okay but you can tell that he's still got a long way to go before he's settled in the position and uh David Moyes is obviously desperate for the players. So it it would represent a huge failure if Evan weren't to to bring in right back in this window after everything that's been said. So we'll have to wait and see. So it's just it's just incredible that we've got to this stage and we haven't got a right back in yet. Um and you know if we don't get one in it'll be very interesting to see the fallout of that you know from the fans and obviously some parts of the media as well. So we will have to wait and see on that one. And after all that Evan have released their new third kit today um which has sort of gone on the quiet if we're honest. It's an all green kit. Very reminiscent to of the Umbro green kit we had uh in Roberto Martin's I think it was his second season. You see it on screen there. Very um it's based on the club are saying it's based on the trees around Hill Dickinson Stadium. Um but yeah, fair enough. Um, the goalkeeper shirt is the same design as the other two goalkeeper shirts, but it's a sky blue. So, yeah, nice shirt. Something a little bit different. And as I said, they've had a green shirt like that around 10 years ago. So, bringing that back. How many times they'll play it, I have no idea. How many times they're playing the away kit, I've got no idea. But, of course, it's not just for the for the men's team. It's obviously for the women's team and for all the junior teams as well. So, I'm sure they'll make use of it if the men's team don't. So, there you go. That is available now. It just sort of came out of nowhere and yeah, there you go.
