Video summary

In this video, host Andrea from Make & Bake introduces viewers to the Cravings by Chrissy Teigen Heavenly Coconut Key Lime Cake Kit, which she discovered at Kroger for approximately $9.49. While noting that the brand offers a variety of desserts including cookies, Andrea decides to try this specific cake mix because it sounded particularly appealing. The kit is designed for versatility, allowing bakers to use an 8 or 9-inch round pan, a loaf pan, or even bake cupcakes. The box contains the cake mix, coconut flakes, and a packet of glaze ingredients, but the recipe also requires basic pantry staples such as eggs, oil, water, and milk to achieve the final result. The preparation process begins with toasting the coconut in a small skillet over medium heat for about four minutes until golden brown, a step Andrea emphasizes is crucial for maximizing flavor. After cooling the toasted coconut briefly in the fridge, she combines the wet ingredients—eggs, water, and oil—in a large bowl before adding the cake mix, which immediately releases a fresh lime aroma. She then folds in most of the toasted coconut, reserving a portion for the topping. The batter is poured into a greased 9-inch pan and baked at a preheated temperature for roughly 42 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Once the cake has cooled completely, Andrea prepares the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, lime powder, lime peel, and milk in a bowl until it reaches a spreadable consistency. She notes that the included packet of glaze might not be sufficient to fully coat the sides of the cake, so she adds extra powdered sugar to ensure enough icing drips down the edges for an authentic look. The final assembly involves spreading the glaze over the top of the cooled cake and sprinkling the reserved toasted coconut on top to finish the dessert. After allowing the glaze to harden for a few hours, Andrea cuts a slice to reveal the moist interior and shares her positive verdict. She describes the cake as having a rich, heavy texture similar to a pound cake rather than a standard fluffy cake mix, with a balanced flavor profile where the lime is present but not overpowering and the coconut is noticeable throughout. Expressing her satisfaction with the taste and texture, she confirms that she would definitely purchase the kit again and encourages viewers to try it themselves.

[music] >> Hey guys, Andrea here, and today I'm going to be trying out Cravings by Chrissy Teigen. She has an entire dessert line. I found this one at Kroger. I believe it was about $9.49. She has cookies and all sorts of things, but this one sounded so good to me, so I wanted to try it. All you need are eggs, oil, and water. And let me show you the back here. So, you can either use an 8-in or 9-in round baking pan, a loaf pan, or you can make cupcakes out of these. But, let me show you everything that came in the box. It came with the cake mix, and it came with coconut. And she recommends that you toast the coconuts for coconut for best flavor, so that is what I'm going to do. You're going to need your eggs, water, and oil as I mentioned. And then, here is the glaze for the cake, and I am going to be using milk. And here is my 9-in cake pan. So, we're just going to jump right in. So, I'm going to start off by toasting my coconut. Now, you can toast your coconut in the oven, but I always do mine in a small skillet just like this. Now, if you do it in a small skillet, you do have to watch it like a hawk because coconut will toast up very, very quickly. Okay, so this is what my coconut looks like after about 4 minutes over medium heat, and I have been stirring it just like this the entire time. But, this is what I'm looking for, so I'm going to take it out of the skillet, put it in a bowl, and then pop it into the fridge real quick just to cool it off. Okay, so the instructions say in a large mixing bowl to combine your eggs, water, oil, and to use a whisk to combine everything together. Okay, and once you have it all mixed together, you're going to add in the cake mix, and this cake mix smells so good. Smells like fresh lime. And you can either choose to add all of the coconut or some of it. I'm going to reserve a little bit just for the topping. And then you're just going to mix it all together. And I'm just going to pour the mixture into my cake pan that I sprayed with [music] baking spray. So, it has oil and flour in there. Okay, so now that I have all of my batter in the pan, I'm going to pop this into my preheated oven and bake it for 38 to 42 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in near the center [music] comes out clean. So, I just took the cake out of the oven. I originally set the timer for 38 minutes. Wasn't quite ready, so I set it for a few more minutes. So, mine ended up baking for about 42 minutes. I'm about to turn this cake out onto a wire rack and let it cool completely. Okay, so my cake has cooled off. Now it's time to work on the glaze. So, I'm just adding the glaze mixture to a bowl, and it has powdered sugar, um lime powder, and lime peel. And I'm adding my milk a little at a time, and you can add milk or water to make your glaze. And you're just going to stir it up and add milk or water just to get it to the consistency [music] that you like. So, I ended up adding another teaspoon or so, um of milk just to get it to the consistency that I'm looking for, and I am just going to add it on top of my cake here. And now I'm just going to spread it just a little bit. Okay, and now that I've got my glaze all spread out, I'm just going to sprinkle the top with that reserved coconut. Now, I will say I don't [music] think there is enough glaze in the packet. I had to work really hard to get just a little bit of the glaze to kind of come down on the side um sides of the cake. So, just FYI, if you want a lot more glaze, you're probably going to need to add a little bit more powdered sugar to your mixture because if I had not added extra milk to my icing or to my glaze mix, I definitely would not have had enough to you know, >> [music] >> have drip down the sides of the cake. Okay, so it's been a few hours and that glaze has hardened up nicely. So, now I'm going to cut out a slice so you guys can see what it looks like. Okay, so here is the cake and here it is on the plate here. [music] And I tried it and it is very good. I would definitely buy it again. It's moist. It has a good flavor. It's heavier, uh kind of more reminiscent of a pound cake than like a, you know, regular cake mix, but it is very good, great flavor. [music] You can taste the lime, but it's not overpowering. And of course, you can taste the coconut throughout. I hope you guys enjoyed this video. If you did, please make sure to give us a thumbs up. And if you haven't subscribed to our channel, we'd love to have you. Thanks so much for watching and we'll see y'all next time. >> [music] >> Mhm.
