Video summary

The video introduces the concept of "locking in" for fall as a strategic second chance to rebuild routines and achieve personal goals, similar to the energy of a New Year's resolution but with less pressure. The creator argues that while January often brings overwhelming expectations that lead to failure, autumn offers a more manageable time to implement habits gradually. As the weather turns colder and days get darker, establishing a structured routine becomes essential for motivation and mental well-being. The speaker emphasizes that success is not an overnight event but rather the result of compounding daily habits, encouraging viewers to start immediately so they can enter the next year feeling accomplished and ready. To build this new era, the creator outlines a specific game plan starting with identifying top three priorities, such as health, work, and social life, while narrowing down goals to avoid feeling overwhelmed. A key focus is establishing daily non-negotiables that keep one sane during gloomy months, such as avoiding morning phone scrolling or replacing late-night social media use with reading. The speaker also highlights the importance of creating an environment conducive to discipline, like keeping workout clothes ready and maintaining a clean home, rather than relying on fleeting motivation. Additionally, addressing dopamine addiction through tools like phone blockers is suggested to help shift from consuming content online to creating one's own content or engaging in hobbies. Finally, the video stresses the power of keeping promises to oneself to build self-trust and confidence, alongside setting a long-term overarching goal to work toward throughout the season. The creator shares personal examples of her evening routine, which includes cooking home-cooked meals, exercising, and engaging in calming activities like bedazzling crafts while watching TV to avoid unnecessary screen time. By aligning sleep schedules with the changing seasons and focusing on the mundane daily moments rather than just big events, one can make the remaining four months of the year count. The video concludes with an invitation for viewers to join this collective effort to lock in, share their own plans, and hold each other accountable as they strive to become their best selves before the end of the year.

If this is what you want your fall to look like, keep watching because in today's video I'm going to show you exactly how we're locking in for fall. >> [music] [music] >> Summer has been so fun, you guys, but I'm at the point where I'm like, "Okay, I am so ready to lock my ass back in for fall." I feel like fall is like that second New Year, that second chance of actually like locking in and honing in on your goals, rebuilding your routines. Obviously, it's been like 8 months since the New Year, but like I said, it is that second chance to become that version of yourself that you set out to be at the beginning of the year. So, don't feel guilty if you have set all these goals at the beginning of the year and you didn't accomplish any, you haven't done them because this is your second chance. Fall is like a New Year energy, it's like back to school energy, and there's actually no better time but you actually start now because then you can go into the next New Year and into the end of the year feeling so good, and that is what I want to do. Today, I'm making it a point, we are officially entering our fall lock-in era. I'm going to make us I'm going to make myself a whole game plan. I'm going to walk you through like the steps that I'm going to take to lock in this fall. I just want to take you through everything that I'm going to do to make these months really count. I just feel like we always put this pressure on ourselves at the beginning of the New Year, and a lot of the times when we make those goals, we never end up completing them because it's just too overwhelming. It's a lot of pressure in January, more so, and I feel like fall is like the low-key time when you can actually like build up your routine, implement your habits that you want to implement, but do it in more of a low-key way where you're going to go into the next new year not having to like reinvent yourself because you already started earlier on. Especially at this time of year when the weather's getting worse, the days are getting darker, we need something to motivate us. We need new goals, we need stuff to focus on. And instead of letting go at this time of year, we got to lock in. So, I'm going to take you guys along for my day today. I'm just about to go to the gym right now. I have some errands to run, I have some cleaning to do, and then I want to sit down and I want to go through my whole plan for what I'm going to do. As fun as fall is with all of the pumpkin spice, Halloween, and all of the festivities to look forward to, just the coziness vibes, I only appreciate all of that if I am locked in and I'm in my routine and I'm still doing the things that make me feel good every day and not just like lazing around because the weather's bad. So, anyways, I think you guys get the point. Let's go to the gym together. Let's get motivated together, spend the day with me, and we'll go over our game plan in a bit. Let's go. I don't know what workout to do when [music] I go to the gym. I always do 12 3 30. It's 12 incline, three speed for 30 minutes, and [music] it's just such a great workout. And then I'll do like half an hour of lifting weights afterwards. If I go to the gym and I'm not sure what to do, it's just such an [music] easy thing to get myself to move my body. But one of my goals is just getting myself to the gym no matter what I do there, at least I got myself there and [music] I'm going to do some sort of workout. I find going to the gym a lot harder than like workout classes, of course, [music] but I've been trying to make an effort of working out four times a week to get myself back into a good routine. [music] I feel like after summer my entire routine always needs a bit of a reset, especially when it comes to cooking. Between traveling so much this summer and just being so busy, I've been eating out so much more. And now, since it's September, I'm genuinely craving home-cooked meals again. But, I also don't want to spend forever planning what we're going to eat every night. So, I've been getting HelloFresh again, and it honestly makes getting [music] back into that routine so much easier. They actually have an entire quick [music] and easy category now, which is perfect for those days where I'm working late, but still want to make a proper dinner at home. Tonight, I made their super quick ginger beef and rice noodle salad, and this was so [music] good. It's one of those meals I probably wouldn't think to make myself, which is honestly [music] one of my favorite things about HelloFresh. They have recipes inspired by 50-plus countries, so it gets me out of the cycle of making the exact same dinners [music] every week, and everything comes out pre-portioned and ready to go. You can also customize your meals, [music] swap proteins, double portions, skip a week, or order ahead depending on your schedule, which makes it really easy to fit into my routine. You guys have genuinely been loving HelloFresh, especially [music] when I'm trying to get back on track with cooking at home, and I definitely recommend trying it. Right now, use my code Mikayla Carraway at hellofresh.com and get a free Carraway food storage set with your third box, available [music] for a limited time only. Click the link below or use my code Mikayla Carraway at hellofresh.com, code Mikayla Carraway at hellofresh.com [music] with third box of active subscription, limited quantities available while supplies last. Going to do a little taste test. This literally looks Joel's already enjoying it. Look at that. This is like right up our alley for like food we love to eat. Let's give it a try. Let's see. Mhm. Mhm. That's so good. 10 out of 10. That is literally so good. It's very light, fresh, lots of protein. Mhm. Hey guys, I finished my workout. Feels so good to be done. It is chilly outside. It is feeling like fall. The weather has been so freezing, like actually so cold. I'm like, what is going on? I'm just to the grocery store now because I just need to get some ingredients for dinner. It is Friday night. However, I really am trying to make an effort of walking in, getting in a good groove of like cooking, making dinners. And I got HelloFresh, so that really got me in the groove of cooking and stuff. So, I'm going to make a soup tonight though, and I'm just going to go to the grocery store to get some groceries for that cuz I already went through all my HelloFresh stuff. I actually loved it so much. Need to get some groceries for dinner tonight, but I feel so good now that I have worked out, and I realized that I have a lot less anxiety in a day when I work out. I just feel like my anxiety has been spiking a lot recently. Feel like it is because I haven't been in a good workout routine, and it's not a coincidence that like my anxiety has gone up through the roof. Clearly that energy has nowhere to go but circulate into anxiety. Anyways, I just feel so much clear-headed after that workout. Fall vibes are falling. They are really falling. I don't think September has ever been this chilly. Like usually we get a good 30° end of August and beginning of September. I'm in biker shorts right now, and I'm like, "Ooh, I could have put on pants." Good thing I brought the sweater because it's actually freezing. But at least it's not raining. I'll take the cloudiness over the rain any day. At least we got that. At least it's not raining. Fingers crossed. >> [music] [music] >> Honestly, having 4 months left of the year, it is a lot of time, a lot more time than we think. I know it's going to go by really, really fast, but if you really think about every single day, like that is a lot of days left of the year. That is a lot of time. I really do want to try to make the best of it. So, let's get into this game plan together. The first thing that we're going to do is pick your top three priorities for your fall lock-in era. If we write down 25 million goals, we are never going to do them. As we know, that's very daunting. Those goals never end up getting done. So, we're going to narrow that list down and pick top three categories as priorities. This could be something like your health, your work. For me personally, one of these goals is going to be my social life. I feel like at this time of year, people tend to get busier, school's starting again. Therefore, sometimes at this year, I feel like I hibernate and I abandon my social life. But, I really want to make it a priority this year to actually like put plans in the calendar whenever my friends are free, even if that's planning something like a month in advance. I always want to make sure that I have a plan in the calendar to look forward to, and I feel like that will bring me out of hibernation. I just want to be booking more dinner resos. I did a lot of that in the summer, so I definitely want to carry this energy into the winter. Just because it's winter doesn't mean it has to be boring, and doesn't mean you have to be hibernating. So, that's what I'm trying to do. As you guys know, I started a book club. So, that's something that we're going to have a plan every single month, a book club meeting date. That's going to be so fun to talk about in a group chat. So, like it really just gives me something to look forward to every single day getting to talk about the book in the group chat. And then having that planned kind of soirée [music] every single month with the girls, it's going to be so much fun. So, really when you're making your top [music] three categories that you want to focus on in your life for the coming fall and winter season, think about what makes you happy every day, what brings you joy, and try to also implement that in [music] things you want to work on. So, for me, my top three categories are going to be my personal life, health because I really just want to get back on to my routine as I've said a million times. My third category is going to be my work because I just want to lock back in with that. I want to be on top of everything. Yeah, so those are my three things that I'm going to be focusing on for the season. The next thing that we're going to do is we're going to pick our daily non-negotiables. At this time of year, fall and winter, you know, the weather's going to start getting gloomy, the days are going to start melting together, the days are going to be darker. You need things that you do every single day that keep you sane, that keep you in a good mood, that you know work for you, and that make you happy, that make you feel satisfied. Success does not happen overnight. It is something that starts to compound through your daily habits, especially for me, that's what I realized. Nothing ends up happening just overnight. Ask yourself, what is your dream routine? Going to fall, I'm definitely going to write down some things that I need to fix about my routine that I have not been doing during the summer. So, for example, things like not scrolling on my phone first thing in the morning, not allowing any social media like once I get in bed, then it'll motivate me to pick up a book instead. Just like little habits like that every single day that I notice over time make me feel so much better and actually directly correlate to my happiness, my motivation, and just make my life essentially so much better. I really want to be cooking more home-cooked meals again because we've been ordering a lot of takeout, going out for dinner so much, which is not a bad thing. Like going out, I love going out for dinner and stuff, but like just getting back into a [music] routine of cooking again, which over the past couple weeks I feel like I've been really good and it just makes us feel [music] so much better from the inside out. I also just really need to lock in and get back on a better workout routine, so that's also a non-negotiable of mine, especially this time of year. I need to keep consistent with that cuz I know it makes me feel so much better. The next thing we're going to do is stop relying on motivation, you guys. Motivation can get you excited at the start, and it will get you excited at the start, but motivation is not what lasts. It's the determination, it's your discipline. Motivation does always dwindle out. It is your environment and a disciplined routine that will keep you going. Emphasis on your environment, like if I keep my house clean, if I keep my groceries restocked in my fridge, if I lay my workout set out for the night before, that all leads in to me staying disciplined and actually like pursuing my goals. Doing a closing shift on the house every day so that I can wake up to a clean house and then feel more inclined to Oh, then I'm going to cook a dinner, then I'm going to cook a healthy breakfast, then I'm going to go workout. You know what I mean? One thing always leads to another. So, make sure you set up your environment for success because that's what's going to really pull you through. Obviously, I love getting motivated like watching other people's YouTube videos and listening to podcasts, but that just dwindles out after a day like I said. It's like that meme where it's like me rebranding myself at 3:00 a.m. in the morning setting my alarm for 6:00 a.m. to go to a workout class and then like shutting that alarm off because the motivation was literally just that one night. That is that meme literally that you we cannot be doing. We have to stay consistent and disciplined. The next thing I really want to be doing is fixing my dopamine. I have been scrolling way too much and getting too much of my dopamine from social media scrolling and it's such a bad habit. I really want to order it's called like the brick. It's basically like a phone blocker where you like scan it like Apple Pay and then it like locks you out of the certain apps that you choose. I need to get one. I was going to order it on Amazon and I'm pretty sure you can only order it from their website at least here in Canada. So, I really want to order one and that will actually feel like create very strong boundaries with me and my phone [music] because it is just so difficult if you don't have anything physical like blocking you out and I don't want to delete the apps cuz I need to post like for my job. So, it's just a very very difficult relationship and especially now that I'm starting book club. I really want to read again going into the fall a lot. I need to block myself out of my phone. I feel like sometimes that's the only way [music] that I will be able to put it down. And I also just want to start creating more than consuming. I feel like I've been consuming more than I've been creating and it just leads into such bad habits and everything. So, yeah, instead of saving those million videos on Tik Tok and never doing them. I actually want to start like doing and creating not worrying about what other people are posting what trends are going on. Just doing my own thing, making my own content regardless of the millions of things other people are putting out on there. YouTube has always been different for me personally. Like when I say I want to stop scrolling, I specifically mean Instagram [music] and Tik Tok cuz those are like the more addictive dopamine forefront apps for me personally. YouTube video I'll put on like when I'm getting ready for bed. Doesn't give me that hit of dopamine like those apps do where I can just sit and scroll for hours or just like a quick hit of dopamine. It's so different. The next thing that we are going to do is become obsessed with keeping promises that we make to ourselves. I always put myself in this position. If I promise my friend something, I'm always going to show up for them and always going to keep my promise. I find myself sometimes saying, "Oh, I'm going to do this and I'm going to do this and I promise I'm going to do this." But I never actually follow through with my own promises. And one thing I really want to make an effort of is actually following through with myself as I would with a friend, a family member because I always keep my promises to other people. And that's rude. Why are we not keeping our promises to ourselves? So if you say you want to read more or you want to work out more or you want to eat healthy, why are we not keeping those promises to ourselves? Becoming somebody that you can trust will instill so much confidence in you. It's insane what it can actually do over time. There's like science behind it that it makes you more of a confident person because small promises that you keep lead to literal evidence and then that leads to confidence that you're going to [music] have within yourself. So we are taking these promises and these goals very seriously, locking it. And my last thing that I'm doing is giving myself something to work towards. I feel like these past couple years I've been very much like lost in the sauce with like just my daily life and I haven't had like an overarching thing to work towards, like a goal to look forward to. And this could be anything from this end of the spectrum to this end of the spectrum. Like you can give yourself a goal of saving up for a specific vacation that you've always dreamt of going on. That's a great goal to have. This can absolutely be anything. This is going to be totally tailored towards you. And I actually have to do some reflection on this of what I want my bigger overarching goal to be this fall and this winter going into the end of the year cuz like I said, we only have 4 months left. But that's still a lot of time. What and who do you want to be walking into January 1st? Ask yourself that. Build the person that you want to enter 2027 as. So even if that is your goal, creating like your dream person that you want to become by the end of the year, that's a great goal to work towards. Whenever I have something that I'm working towards on the daily, it gives you something. Like even if you signed up for a marathon, for example, that gives you something to work towards every single day. Therefore, like your habits are going to be better. I feel like you always need something in your life that you're working towards. Whether it's like this small or this big, you need something there why you wake up every single morning. Especially at this time of year when it gets gloomier, you need that thing. Anyways, those are my tips and tricks for how I personally locking in this fall and I hope this could like motivate you guys a little bit to create kind of your own structured plan for going into the fall and winter season this year. We got this. We're going to be in this together. When you look back at your life, it is our day-to-day life that is most important. Which is funny cuz a lot of the times we think about, you know, all these big moments and these vacations, but realistically what makes up 90% of our life is just the mundane daily days, daily life. And so, try to make those the best that you can. Try to make them fun. And as much as I want to lock in and, you know, stick to a good routine, I want to be able to do that alongside with making my daily life romanticized and making it the best it could be essentially. So, anyways, this is our sign to lock in this year and make it the best 4 months and the year off strong. We got this and we can hold each other accountable. So, make sure you're subscribed so you could follow along with the vlogs that I post for the end of the year. I am very excited. Those are my little tips and tricks. Let me know down below what you guys are doing to lock in this fall. [music] >> [music] [music] >> This is one of those things that I have been wanting to start for a while now. I feel like I've been yapping about this in my vlogs. I never have and I just pulled the plug and I ordered a bedazzling kit, you guys. I have been bedazzling. I've already bedazzled like three or four of my products. Now I'm on to a new victim. I'm going to start bedazzling my Lemmy Sleep Gummies. I literally love these. They actually work so good, low key. So if you have ever or were interested in getting them, highly, highly would actually recommend. They make me pass out. So I'm going to put on I actually just started Earl Meets World Netflix, Alex Earl's new reality TV show that literally just came out. I also cannot believe that Dancing with the Stars is coming out on the 15th like What is that? Next week? In two weeks? There's so many good shows out right now. I feel like I have like a lineup of things that I want to watch. I still haven't watched the new Spider-Man movie and I know that's in theaters, so I definitely want to go watch that maybe like this week or something with Joel, but still got to watch that one. Yeah, like I said, I just want to be in my era of actually doing things. You know, when I'm watching TV, why am I scrolling on my phone? I don't know. Like it's so unnecessary. So I need to keep my hands busy somehow. So I'm going to be bedazzling from now on. That's going to be my new little hobby and I've been loving it so far. So let's sit down, watch some Netflix, and do some bedazzling. That's like my favorite thing. It's so calming. And then we're going to snuggle in bed and get in bed nice and early and read a book tonight. So So that's what my evening looks like. Uh the soup that I made for dinner is so good. And yeah, anyways, let's get bedazzling and have a fun, relaxing, no screen, no phone time, I should say, no social media time evening. >> [music] [music] >> Oh, look at my babies. Whenever I'm on the couch at night, they always love to join. It's the cutest thing ever. Aw, my actual beans. I love when they enjoy couch time with me. >> [laughter and gasps] >> I literally get odds. So, this is as far as we got for tonight. I'm going to head to bed now, but you can just imagine how cute this is going to turn out. Like, look at how basic this looks from the front, and look at it now from the back. So, I'm going to make my way around. It honestly doesn't take as much time as you would think to bedazzle. It's a pretty quick process, especially while watching TV. It goes by so fast, and it's so much fun. Would highly recommend ordering a bedazzling kit. I'll link the one that I ordered. It's really good. And yeah, super cute. I cannot wait to finish this one. Accidentally lost two bedazzling beads on here already because I forgot that I had to let the glue dry down, and I like touched it too much. I don't know if you could tell. I'm going to like redo this a little bit because it looks ugly when they start to fall. Well, I haven't had them fall yet, but like you got to make sure to let the glue dry. So, I'm going to redo that part if you could see it right now. Oopsies. I am officially [music] heading to bed. I have a Hatch alarm clock, and I feel like I have not made the most of it. So, if you guys have any like tips and tricks on like what's your favorite thing to do with a Hatch alarm clock in terms of like setting routines and stuff cuz I'll put on like rain sounds every night, and obviously like set my morning alarm. But like I paid for the user subscription. What do you guys do with your Hatch to like maximize it? I guess I can go watch some videos on it, but if you have any tips or tricks on the hatch alarm clock specifically, please let me know because I want to like bio hack it so that I'm making the most of it and that it can actually like help me with my morning and night routine cuz I know you can like set routines with it and everything. So, let me know how you use your hatch and like what it does for you. But anyways, we picked our monthly book club and we're going to be reading The Tenant by Freida McFadden. That was like the book that was chosen cuz we all chose books to go into like a random generator, and then The Tenant is the book of [clears throat] the month. So, I'm going to download that now on my Kindle. I'm going to get cozy, and I'm going to start reading this month's book club book, which I'm really excited about. But yeah, I feel like it is 9:38 right now, and I really just want to try to make an effort of getting into bed by 10:00 latest and then falling asleep ideally like 10:30, latest 11:00, and then that way I can get up at around like 7:00 to 8:00 every day, and I feel like that's a really good schedule, and I feel like it's not too early, especially now that the sun is starting to set later. I just feel like in the summer my routine was shifted so much later because the sun didn't set until 10:00 p.m. So, like I wouldn't get in bed until like an hour after that at least. I just shifted my routine a lot, so that's why in the fall it's already the sun is already setting at like 8:00 p.m. It set at 8:00 today, so it's setting a lot earlier. So, trying to get to bed earlier and like make my routine coincide like with the season, with the sun. So, yeah, and I feel like as long as I limit my screen time in bed, it's just so much easier to fall asleep. Like I get so tired reading. I saw you guys' recommendations to read A Court of Thorns and Roses on my last video that I posted on my last video that I posted. You guys were like, "You have to read it." So, I just might right now go on my Kindle and buy it. I'm going to go see like if I should buy the whole series at once or book by book, what makes the most sense, but I did see you guys' comments. So, one book club book, like it's going to be pretty small book every month, so I feel like I'm going to need more to read in between the book club anyways, so having that as like my end of year reads probably going to be so good. So, yeah. Once I'm into a book, like I will pick that up over social media. Like I will choose to pick that up over social media. So, I just need to get into something that I really like excited about reading. I think I'm going to give it a whirl. I think I'm going to give it a try cuz I have been just talking about it for so long now and I need to just shut up and read it. So, I think I might do that. But, anyways, I'm going to go to bed now. I just wanted to thank you guys so much for watching today's video. I know it was kind of like a different style that I did cuz I sat down and kind of just like talked. Made it kind of like half sit-down video. So, let me know what you think of this style video. If this is something you're interested in seeing more of or if you just prefer like my normal vlogs that I do. I'm open to anything. So, please let me know what you guys thought of this video. And if you made it to this point in the video, comment a lock emoji cuz we're locking in for the fall. And comment a lock emoji if you're going to lock in with me. So, anyways, thank you guys so much for watching. If you don't already follow me like on my short form and stuff, what are you doing? Go follow me on all my platforms so you can keep up with me cuz I post Instagram stories and stuff and Tik Toks. All the fun things over there. So, make sure you subscribe, follow me on all my other socials, and yeah, I will see you guys in my next video, which will be very, very soon. And get ready for all the fall uploads, which will be coming. Leave any recommendations down below as per usual, and I love you guys so much and I will see you in my next video. Good night. >> [music] [music]
