Video summary

This lecture centers on the biblical principle of walking as children of light by redeeming the time, which serves as the foundation for effectively managing two critical resources: time and money. Since every individual is limited to twenty-four hours a day, it is essential to actively decide how to spend that time rather than allowing circumstances or others to dictate one's schedule. The speaker introduces the Priority Matrix, also known as the Eisenhower Matrix, as a tool to categorize tasks based on their urgency and importance. This framework divides responsibilities into four quadrants: high importance and high urgency tasks that must be done immediately, such as critical crises; high importance but low urgency tasks like strategic planning and relationship building that should be scheduled for quality analysis; low importance but high urgency items that can often be delegated or handled later; and low importance and low urgency activities, such as excessive social media scrolling, which should be avoided entirely. Effective time management extends beyond categorization to include practical habits that enhance productivity and reduce stress. The speaker advises keeping physical spaces and digital files organized to minimize retrieval time and anxiety, while also identifying personal peak energy levels to tackle difficult tasks when the mind is fresh rather than during low-energy periods like post-lunch digestion. Procrastination is addressed as a source of panic-driven, shoddy work, urging individuals to confront underlying fears or feelings of inadequacy instead of delaying tasks. Furthermore, the lecture emphasizes avoiding multitasking, noting that switching contexts between different types of tasks generally reduces focus and quality, whereas true multitasking is only viable when combining mechanical actions with mental ones. Leaders are also encouraged to delegate routine tasks to trained individuals, following the example of Jethro advising Moses, so they can focus on the most difficult responsibilities and know when to rest rather than simply delaying work. Transitioning from time to financial stewardship, the lecture defines budgeting as the process of planning income and allocating funds for specific expenses in advance before making any purchases. The speaker stresses the importance of recording all expenses to prevent wasteful spending and making conscious decisions regarding transaction costs, such as weighing delivery fees against the time saved by shopping online. While paying extra for convenience is permissible if one has the financial means, the core advice remains to adhere strictly to a predetermined plan rather than impulsive spending. The session concludes by noting that the detailed preparation of a monthly budget will be explored in the next class, encouraging students to review their current notes on this subject to solidify their understanding of managing finances effectively alongside their time resources.

Okay, just want to read from Ephesians at Ephesians chapter 5. Right. Okay. Ephesians chapter 5, it's all about how a believer should walk, right? How a believer should live, right? Um be imitators of God and all that, right? So, so that is what we see here. If you go down to verse uh 8 says, "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light." Right? For the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth and all that. Verse 10, it says, "Finding out what is acceptable to the Lord, right? Find walk as children of light, finding out what is acceptable to the Lord." Right? Then if you go down to verse 15, it says, "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil." Right? So as part of walking as children of light, finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. Um this is one important aspect which is how we spend our time. And that is what we're going to know look at today. how we spend our time, how we spend our resources, right? So, which means that God also, you know, has uh his will about how we spend our time, right? So, what is acceptable to the Lord? Uh and there could be some things that are not acceptable to the Lord with regard to how we spend our time. So, that's what it means, right? Find out what is acceptable to the Lord. Um so, it says redeeming the time for the days are evil. So which means that the way we spend our time, the way we use our utilize our time, there is the acceptable to the lord and there is also the not acceptable to the lord. So uh we need to if we are going to be walking as children of light, we need to be aware of this truth that there are certain things about how we spend our time which is not acceptable to the lord. Right? And so we need to find out what is acceptable and walk in it. Right? So let's um even as we pray, let's just tell the Lord, Lord, um my times are in your hands. Uh and at the same time, Lord, how I spend my time, let it be acceptable to you. Father, we thank you for this morning. We thank you for this reminder of this truth, Lord, that even as we live, Lord, as children of light, Lord, let our lifestyle be one that stewards the time very well. Lord, let enable us to be mindful of things that steal our time. enable us to be mindful of things that uh Lord take it away and uh Lord things delays and all those things in our lives master we pray we come against it Lord we pray Lord for your blood protection and your empowerment Lord so that we might utilize our time and as your word says redeem the time God walking circumspectly we thank you we give you all the praise and glory in Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen. Okay. So today we are looking at um management of this wonderful resource which is time right. So like we look at skills management of time also requires to be a skill right has come to be a skill right now we have all of us have only 24 hours yes or no yeah we don't have more we don't have less all of us have 24 hours we wish that we had more time sometimes you know but uh the fact is that all of us are have been given 24 hours in a day 7 days a week 365 days a year and How we make the best use of it or how we utilize it, it depends on us, you know, because it is ultimately our decision, right? Our decision as to how we spend the time. Now, what happens if we don't make a decision about how we spend our time, right? That decision will be made by others, right? that decision will be made by others in the sense you know if we don't have um control of how we are going to spend a time spend our time or for that matter any any of our resources you know there will be other others who will decide that for us and say okay you know I want to do this uh can you help or you know I I want so much of your time you know I need you to do this and so others will make the decision for us or it could be even situations like difficult situations um you know things that require our effort etc will actually dictate how our time should be spent right so in ministry the same thing right uh and so we need to have the skill and the ability to manage our resource which is time you need to be able to manage our time very well right so if you if you look around actually some people seem to have that skills have that ability and They manage their time very well. They get a lot of things done in a short time. Right? But maybe some of us ch are challenged in this area. Some of us are struggle um you know are struggling in this area. But it is something that if we can remember a few things um and put to practice right apply a few things in our lives then we will be able to manage our time very well. Right? Okay. So the key things the very important thing to understand is in our time in our day we will always have tasks right duties uh tasks to be done right so with regard to these tasks to be done some tasks are urgent right you need to do it immediately otherwise it'll have consequences right like maybe submissions you know as students we have submissions as students maybe we have uh you know quizzes or assessments Right? These are urgent things, right? If we don't do it at that particular required time, then it'll have consequences, right? So urgent. The other uh second thing about these tasks is some of these tasks are important tasks, right? Urgent is different from important. So we need to understand that what is urgent and what is important because urgent means immediately you need to do it right important is is good for us it's actually very important for us it is is needed right um so if you want to distinguish or tell the difference between these two you know what what is urgent and important urgent is something that needs to be done soon immediately right maybe there is a deadline if you Don't miss the if you miss the deadline there are consequences right maybe government will announce a scheme government will say okay everybody needs to register right recently they did right that that's a sir uh registration they say okay you need to do that otherwise your your name list will not be there your name will not feature in the electoral roles right so something that needs to be done and by the time that they give the date it needs to be done so that's urgent important is something that contributes to our lives, right? It could be some important goals, it could be some responsibilities, some values. Now, it need not require an urgent thing, you know, it need not be that you need to do it now, right? You need to do it today, you need to finish it. No, but it's very important for your life, right? For example, it could be maybe you know um uh registering your name for certain things, right? Maybe registering for a maybe for an event which is 3 months from now, right? It's an important thing but it's not urgent. You can still wait. You can still wait for 3 months and then you know get get it done. So okay. So the the thing is sometimes we miss out on knowing what is urgent and what is important and so what happens the urgent things get left behind right or the important things get left behind right so we need to if we if we understand and if we do it accordingly it will help us greatly right okay let's look at some examples right um let's say to prepare for a presentation tomorrow that you have not yet started. Is it urgent or important? Urgent, right? Building good relationships with your team members, your maybe if you're working somewhere, colleagues, and maybe if you're mentoring someone, you know, is it urgent or important? Yeah, correct. Right. Let's say let's look at some ministry examples like um let's say the worship team leader calls you because uh he needs you to substitute for someone and the event is happening maybe this evening or tomorrow is it urgent or important that's urgent right so we understand right or maybe uh somebody has called you and says you know can you please help me can you please mentor me you know I want to grow spiritually now is that urgent or important Now they're saying, you know, well, it could be urgent if it is critical. They're saying, you know, something's wrong in my life. You know, I I I'm I'm depressed or I feel uh, you know, very upset. Uh, I don't know what I'm going to do. Let's say they say I feel like ending it, right? And that's urgent, right? But otherwise, if they say, you know, I want to grow spiritually now, that's an important thing, right? So you can schedule it doesn't have to be done today right so so we understand right that certain things are urgent certain tasks are important now there are certain tasks which could be both like this particular case it could be urgent and it could also be important right but the thing is this um our goal should not be to just get done with urgent tasks A goal is not that okay if it's urgent okay I'll do it or I'll wait till something becomes urgent and then do it right some of us do that right now that is not the goal it's it's just that the important things should not get constantly pushed aside okay I'll do it later I'll do it later it is important I know right I every time I'm reminded things I'm reminded of it I think about it you know just oh I I've not yet done I've not done this yet so The our goal is not to you know just focus on the urgent and leave out the important right because what happens when the important task becomes urgent and we have not spent enough time on it we will do a very fast shoddy rushed job okay do something I'll put something together uh and I'll do it get it done right because it is important because sorry because it is urgent whereas if we had spent time on the important thing given a thought then the quality of the task will be much better quality of the or the quality of output will be much better right maybe you're presenting a paper maybe you're putting together a presentation you know if we spend time thinking if we spend time preparing then the quality of the output of the presentation or the PPT or whatever will be much better than if we do it in like 12 hours if we just start doing it 12 hours before the event and then we do a because there is panic right there is uh nervousness there is anxiety will I be able to finish will I be able to not be able to finish all that is there right so this is something these are some things this is a very uh basic foundational thing that we need to understand you need to know right okay then let's uh let's move on you know if you If you see in your notes, you see that there is a priority ma matrix. Okay, you would have learned this in Christian leadership also. Priority matrix, okay, which is four boxes are there. Um at the bottom you see the urgency axis, right? That is the urgency line at the bottom. How urgent is the task? Right? Then on the left side uh from bottom to top it lists down how important is the task. So that's the the y-axis as we call it in a graph. Y-axis is the importance of the task. X-axis is urgency of the task. Right? Left to right urgency. Top to bottom the importance of the task. Right? So if you see four boxes now the rightmost bottom, right? Right bottom is low urgency. Okay? [clears throat] But it's also low importance. Right? If you see the rightmost bottom, right, you see low urgency at the bottom of it and at the left end it says low importance. So if it's low urgency, if it's also low in importance, don't do. Okay? Don't start doing it now. Right? It is low in both importance and urgency. Right? Now maybe in our you know if you if you actually sit and see uh list down there could be some tasks which are low urgency and low importance. What is what could be that? Okay. Going through your social media feeds, right? Um and uh spending eight hours on it or maybe four hours, you know, suddenly you realize that 4 hours goes by, right? Now it is low importance. It is also not urgent, right? But our mind tells, oh, I wonder what's happening here. I wonder what the story is. I wonder what this person has put. You know, so but actually if you look at it, it's both low urgency and low importance, right? Then there are certain things, you know, if you go to that green or okay, it's black and white, right? If you move to the left, leftmost um column box, bottom left box. Okay, we looked at the bottom right, bottom left box, bottom left box is high urgency but low importance. Okay, it is urgent. It needs to be done today but not right now. It needs to be done by the end of the day maybe right it is low in importance but there are maybe other things that are high in importance right so do it later right do it later meaning do it it is urgent it should be sent I mean or something should be sent something should be couered u but you don't have to do it right away you can do it by the end of the day right let's look at the left top box okay what does that mean that means it's high importance and high urgency right the top left now that needs to be done first. It is high highly urgent. It's highly important as well. So those are the tasks which need be to be done immediately. So what happens is these tasks sometimes require make us uncomfortable. It's high urgency, high importance. It makes us uncomfortable. Maybe we need to you know solve a particular problem. Maybe we need to talk to some people. Maybe we need to you know write some emails. whatever it could be, right? Um, and it makes us uncomfortable because you're thinking, "Oh, I don't want to talk to that person. Oh, I don't want to I don't know what to write in that email." Um, but it's urgent. It is important. So, that's the thing that we need to do first, right? That is need to be that that needs to be attacked first, right? Then if you look at the top right box that is high importance but low urgency right it is high in importance but it is low in urgency. So that can be done next where you give quality time so that you can analyze you can think of things you can you know uh do a good work but it's not urgent it's not it doesn't need to be sent today or right now in the next 1 hour. So you can do that next but the first one should be what is high in importance and urgency right second one what is high in importance and low in urgency and the third one could be highly urgent but low importance and the fourth one is it's low urgency and low importance right so so this box this matrix will really help us okay you know you can let's say you you have those four boxes you can even do that as a checklist and write down you know and make an entry into what is urgent and important right what needs to be done before this week it needs to be done right before the before Friday it needs to be done maybe maybe you're planning something for Sunday's service right and uh maybe there are some videos to be sent maybe there are some you know uh maybe there's a WhatsApp text that you need to send out announcement that you need to send out to the congregation now that needs to go first right if it's if it's we are on th Thursday right so if it needs to go tomorrow that means everything needs to be put together today so that it can be sent tomorrow right because only if it is sent tomorrow will it'll will it give people sufficient time to maybe think through plan and make it you know for whatever you are inviting people for so it means it needs to be done today you know today the message to be put together the today the graphic to be put together the posters we put together know it should be finished today right it should be ready for dispatch tomorrow so that would be you know maybe you'll make an entry and say okay I want to start doing this or finish this today right so this box would really help us to find out our priority like what is important what is not important okay let's look at some principles okay some basic things which we are all aware of very practical things which will really help us to manage manage time well right okay so first thing is to keep our things tidy tidy means organized neatly um simp you know in a in a clear way right because if it is cluttered right if we can't find our things for example our personal things or official things if we can't find it we're going to spend a lot of time just searching for it right and maybe you know it could even be some things on your laptop. Um, you know, emails that you've sent. Uh, maybe some files that you put together, you know, some song lists that you put together, maybe song words that you put together, maybe some, uh, you know, presentations that you put together, right? Now, all this, do you know where it is? Right? Uh, is it neatly organized and put away? Is it put in folders? Right? If it's on your laptop or your phone, if it's um you know, if it is put away in folders, then it's easy to access it, right? You can find it easily, you can retrieve it easily. Now, now storing it is, you know, just half the challenge, right? Okay, you got something, you saved it. You know how many times we we we you know, we tell ourselves, I don't know where I saved it. I don't know where I put this. I somewhere somewhere I put it, I don't know where it is, right? I can't seem to find the file. So we spend some time just searching for it. Whereas if you know that okay this is where it is this is the folder I can go there even when you're saving it you know you put it there. It's not like you're putting it in you know download or somewhere I put it on the desktop and then I'll see later. No even if you're you know saving it in the destination in the right place then we can retrieve it. So keeping things tidy is very important because if we don't keep things tidy, not only are we going to find um I mean find it finding it difficult to retrieve it but we are not going to be able to focus or concentrate on things like we don't realize it right if we let's say a table you know you just put everything your books everything is there your personal items it's it's all a mess and oh where where is my notes I don't know I should be here down somewhere you dust it and you take it and you know if it's like that it's constantly creating stress we don't realize it you know our mind when it sees we may not feel that anxiety but it's actually you know we are it's going on the inside of us our mind is processing oh clutter I need to organize it I will do it later you know all these things are subconsciously going on in our minds right so we need to keep things tidy we need to organize things tidy right uh tidy and so that we can easily find it and it also um you know uh helps us not to get stressed right some simple tips you know there are many things on the internet you know you know we can actually keep three things you know if things are accumulating right you got lot of things and accumulating you can make it three piles give uh sorry keep give away and throw away and that will help us right okay second thing is to do things at a particular time. Okay, now they are talking about okay how can we manage our time to we need to pick our time you know some of us are very fresh early in the morning okay how many of us are like that early morning 3:30 4 and all you're very sharp right but some of us are fresh um Okay. Okay. So, some of us are fresh only evenings or night time. Okay. If everybody's sleeping and you're sitting sitting and you know you're reading things and you're feeling very fresh right now. Okay. You you need to pick your time to do the hardest work. Like let's say for studies it will help, right? for studies definitely help. Okay, maybe you get up early in the morning, you set an alarm, you can get up, you can, you know, that's when you're fresh fresh in your mind, you can study. Or maybe when it comes to late night, you know, you're fresh, fine. You spend time studying, reading, everything. But when it comes to let's say work, actual work or ministry, um this helps to some extent, you know, to do that difficult task at the time when you're fresh. But we cannot we don't have that privilege all the time right. So suppose you're saying okay I'm fresh only at 7:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. right in the evenings. But the others will not be available to whom you have to meet and talk or maybe you know plan things with the team they will not be available at that time. So we need to actually do it at a time that they are available. Right. Right? Even within that time know if you feel that okay some things are better done earlier and some things are better done late so we can actually pick those types. So in a day right maybe if you look at 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Right. 12 hours. There are some times in the day when we are very fresh, right? How many of us are fresh after lunch? >> Okay. I don't see any hands. So, so that's the thing right post lunch actually body also you know the whole blood system goes for digestion and so we feel a little drowsy right? We don't we don't feel fresh right? we want to take a nap and that time when they say outreach workshop and all it's like it's difficult to keep the eyes open right so you know that's the thing but we need to figure out some way okay this time I'm fresh I'm going to do the difficult tasks right I'm going to do those tasks that require a lot of my you know thinking and and maybe physically also I'm going to do that right physically lot of effort is required okay let me do that after lunch that 1 hour, let me not assign any of those important decisions or important tasks because you're not giving your best. You're going to just go through that, you know, mechanically go through it that one hour and then that's it, right? So, so don't put your most difficult task during that time, right? The maybe the important things and all that, don't put it during that time. So, this will really help us, right? Okay. So, third one is don't delay. Okay. The word used there is procrastinate. Procrastinate means to put away for a later time. Okay. I'll do it later. I'll do it later. I'll write it later. I'll email later. I'll send it later. I'll work on it later. I'll study later. Right? So, this means procrastinate. Means constantly putting it away for no reason. Right? Why? I I don't feel like doing it. So, I'll do it later. Right? Procrastinate. Right? Now when we we looked at that box right four that four boxes you know if a thing is urgent and important we cannot procrastinate it right we cannot delay cannot say no I'll do it later no we have to do it start doing it now many times we procrastinate and we think that we can actually do it later right we feel that okayh it's okay I can do it later uh you know I have lots of time I'll do it later we think that okay this task would just require maybe half an hour and I can do it. But you realize once you start doing the work, you realize that it takes about 3 hours, maybe 4 hours, right? And then you realize, oh, I made a mistake. I should not have delayed it, right? I should not have procrastinated. So, um, many of us procrastinate for various reasons. Okay, you just think about it. Why did I delay? Okay, why? Because at that moment it felt uncomfortable, right? I just wanted to rest. I just wanted to relax, right? I just wanted to, you know, check on my phone or whatever. I didn't want to do it then because it's it it made me uncomfortable, right? It was inconvenient. So, we didn't do it. Maybe we were tired. We didn't do it. We could we could have some genuine reasons also why we delayed, put away certain things. But some things if if we are recurrently you know delaying postponing we need to ask ourselves why are we doing it because we are afraid of the consequences right afraid of getting into the task sometimes even people who are perfectionists you know I don't want any mistakes I want everything to be in place right so they also procrastinate they feel that okay now is not the right time I need to I need to I need some quality time. I need to put in my best work. I need to do it well. So, the intention is there, right? But like the Lord taught, he said, you know, the spirit is willing, the intention is there, the sincerity is there, but the flesh is weak, right? There are some things of the flesh which are which are bothering, which are troublesome and uh which are not yet addressed. And so maybe because of fear, we procrastinate. We don't I don't you know I don't uh I don't know maybe or maybe because we feel that we are inadequately um you know we are inadequate right I don't have the knowledge I don't know how to do this and therefore let me do it later but instead of thinking that way we should we should think okay now what does this job require what does this task require how can I get that basic information out right how can I where should I look how can I get that information so that I can start doing the work. We not yet started right. So we procrastinate for various reasons but we need to find out and be honest and say and find out you know why am I postponing? Why am I doing this? Right? The fourth thing is not to try to multitask. What does multitask mean? Multitask means you're you're doing multiple tasks at the same time. You're on the phone. You're trying to read and you're also trying to watch some video. That is typical multitasking. I said, "Ah, yeah, tell me. Tell me." Yeah, I'm I'm listening to you. And maybe, you know, you're watching something and then you So, that is multitasking. So, and maybe you are trying to cook something also. So, don't try to multitask, right? Why? Because we don't give 100% of our focus and effort to the task, right? It's all you know like people say okay you can multitask you are skilled in multitasking yeah but if the tasks are similar in nature in the sense let's say you're talking to someone on the phone and you're checking the details of that person on your system you know that you can do simultaneously but even then right as you're checking and as you're you know looking at some information regarding that person even And our mind keeps switching between each task. Okay. It it switches between okay reading this it switches between okay talking and that's why they say you know driving and talking on the phone is very dangerous driving and texting is deadly right if you send a text and so many times right and even this morning when I was coming to the college I was I was you know I was thinking why is this person in front going so slow the road is you know it's not like crowded or anything but this tempo was going so slow then I tried to overtake. He's not letting me overtake and I come and come and see he's actually on the phone. He's talking. Huh? H tell me. And he's totally aware unaware of you know no honking is helping. He's just you know going there. So just imagine you know the other day also I was looking at someone you know who was actually driving and looking down. He's got the phone here down. He's driving. Hand is on the steering. He's driving. He's texting something and his head is he's not looking at the door I mean looking at the road but he's down right and that can be very very dangerous for the self and for others right you create so much of damage so don't try to multitask you know as much as far as possible focus focus on the task is hand task at hand finish it and yeah get to the next one yes there will be times there will be times when you know you need to do certain because something is urgent, you need to put out something and then you know do it but um focus one at a time right because our brain as an organ it takes time to switch between one task to another. Yes, you know our brains the way God has designed it is is highly capable of doing multiple things but at the same time if you want to do focus and do a good job of whatever you're putting your hand to focus on it. Okay, one more last thing is to stay calm, right? Because if you let's say 10 things you need to do before evening or before 2 hours, right? Before 2 hours go by, 10 things are to be done, right? So it's very easy when one hour is done to feel so overwhelmed. You know, this can happen during exams also, right? You you you like one question, you like that answer and you just spend your time writing it. Okay, very you know you studied it so well and you you know you spend time on it. No, it happens right and you spend some 20 minutes on that and then you realize oh I have only 40 more minutes to finish the rest right and you have so many things to do right and we start panicking and and get overwhelmed by the task at hand right so the thing is that um don't get overwhelmed stay calm right and u look at things use that matrix and what is urgent what is important and prioritize guys so that we can do it well. You know, sometimes we might just have to rest. You just have to rest, right? You just need to go have a good night's rest and then start over in the morning, right? And but that time don't delay, right? Get the rest that your mind needs. Get the rest that your body needs. But and when you're refreshed, just go and start and give you all, right? So these are some things that will simple things, right? That would actually help us manage our time. You know apart from this I think in Christian leadership uh we also looked at you know certain to-do lists that help us right uh and how we can actually we need to look at all the areas in our lives right so we could have you know maybe as students we have certain responsibilities maybe you know you you have first of all you have how many subjects eight is it okay eight subjects right so you can't just study only your favorite subject and leave the rest right So we need to give equal importance to all the subjects. So if you're preparing for a quiz, preparing for a test then you need to make sure that all are given equal importance. Right? So those are some things you know when it comes to um prioritizing. Okay. Now studies is one area within studies itself you have these subjects. Right? Now you could have other responsibilities, right? Maybe you're you're leading something here at the college or you have other responsibilities. You're supposed to be on the roster for particular things, you know, whatever your responsibilities are. And maybe there is a third responsibility, your personal responsibility maybe to home or you know, so we you you could maybe have three responsibilities, right? So every day we need to be able to track all these three responsibilities. How well am I doing in this? No. So that how much time am I giving to all these three? And just for us to be aware, okay, if I'm not doing it now, if I'm not doing it this week, then I know when I should actually do it. I've actually planned for this to be done at a certain other time. Right? So uh at least we need to be aware. It should not be like, oh, I completely forgot. I forgot that this thing was happening. I forgot. No, we should not. So that is that is um it'll help us if we actually plan our time right any questions here time management it's a very simple thing right um and once we have that skill in place it it can be a you know real joy to to actually do the work to do the tasks right okay yeah sure So you said it's not better to try multitasking, right? If >> sorry, it's not better to multitask. It's >> not better. But if the works are uh very important that we need to complete then how >> yeah so that's the thing you know if it's urgent and it needs to be done then we need to do it and at that time yes uh I'm sure we will be multitasking like but um yeah just just see how it is you know like let's say you know something requires quality time in terms of thinking in terms of strategizing then adding that task to something that you're multitasking will not help you know because then it'll become a the quality will be substandard right um so let's say um you have to compose a poem or you have to prepare a speech right now if you're multitasking with something else then you know how the quality of that speech will be how that quality of the so that is all you know. So if it is um you know let's say you're preparing a speech at the same time you're also trying to you know get some resources online and then you know doing things simultaneously that could be okay but uh you know it's best that we set aside slot these times and not mix it up and multitask at the same time. That's it. So if the multitasking we have two task so one is in physical thing or another is mental thing. So which one should we do first? Okay, let's say if there's a physical task and also a um yeah, so see what is it that you can do mechanically, right? Mechanically in the sense there's not much thought uh in involved in it. Let's say um you know if you're riding a cycle or a bike you don't have to think too much right you you know automatically your body knows okay after this the second gear third gear you know okay that comes mechanically and I'm sure that you can also yeah you know maybe you're thinking some things and maybe you are planning something you can do that right certain certain things you can do mechanically physically and uh maybe you can combine those kind of tasks you can do that. So you need to think okay for example what any particular task that you have in mind that you're [snorts] thinking of do you have any particular task in mind that you are any specifics about u multitasking. Yeah, you can use the mic so that they can Yeah. [snorts] >> Yeah. >> So, uh yes, being student we have responsibility >> as [clears throat] what? Sorry. >> Being a student in Bible college. >> So, uh we need to pray, right? So, I woke up at 4:00. >> 4 you take 4:15 until 5 I take. So, sleep at around 10:30, 10:45. For a human, it's uh basic that we need at least 7 to 8 hours. >> Mhm. >> So, I'm [clears throat] now I'm getting only 5 hours. So, which can impact in upcoming days. So how can I get complete 6 to 7 hours at least >> like so can you sleep early is it possible >> like 10 10 years saying >> uh >> yeah it's >> it is possible okay so then you know if you can adjust that then it'll be fine okay let's say you want to keep that as a priority okay I want to get up at 4 and spend time till 5 in prayer that's great but if you if you think that you can sleep earlier to get those same hours then you can manage that Right. So you see how how you can fit in that >> because we can't do everything. >> That's the thing, right? And yeah, the 7 hours sleep. Yeah, it's healthy to have 7 to 8 hours of sleep and it's not possible for most cases. I know. And especially I'm just thinking you know like certain doctors uh you know nurses people in you know so they have they have these challenges right? So we need to get into a healthy cycle. Maybe for a season you're not able to but it's good to switch over and try what is it that I can actually take off my list you know remove from a list so that I can um you know get that adequate rest so that I'll be refreshed. Right? So, so the thing is this, you know, if you go to bed at 10:30, you said no, 10:30 and you're getting up at 4 and you're feeling fine, you're feeling fresh, right? Um, go for it. You know, you're feeling fresh, you're not compromised in any of the activities or anything, right? But if you're not, then you definitely need to, you know, because that's because when you're not feeling fresh, that means your body is telling you that I need more. I need more rest. Your body is telling you that. And uh so it's not just rest, it's also, you know, certain other things also your diet and exercise and also, you know, your what you're thinking, you know, maybe you're worrying. When you worry a lot, you get up and you don't feel refreshed. Right? In the morning itself, you start worrying. You start the day with worry. Then it's it's not right. So doesn't help you. Physically, you might be okay, but emotionally you are drained. You're feeling tired. And so those are some things to you know look into and see okay what is your body telling you? Does it require mostly make that adjustment. Yeah. Okay. Any other questions? Anything else? Okay. No. Okay. Okay. If we have less time and more work to do, what should we do? What should we do first? Yeah. So, definitely we can use that matrix and find out what is um important, what is urgent and um you know and uh and find out what are the the tasks in that work to be done first and start at it. Right? Maybe if you know another thing that we need to look at when it comes to um you know managing our time which we'll study a little later is delegation right when it comes to management of people we will see that that is what something that we look at delegation which means that out of the 10 things maybe seven things only you can do right only you can do and you are supposed to do it right but there's three other things. Um maybe others can do it right. It'll be an opportunity for the other person and it'll be something you know some a learning for the other person right so that is what we call as delegation. You delegate that work to others. Now you know Jethro Moses father-in-law um he saw how Moses was working how Moses was functioning right from morning till late night. know people will queue up outside the tent and they will one by one they will come and they'll come with their problems okay I have this thing what should I do you know this is not working what should I do so he will give wisdom right he will the bible says he will judge he will discern and say okay why don't you do this or maybe people have some problems and you know interpersonal problems they'll come he'll s he needs to solve it he's the leader so they come to him and ask him so jetra saw this and said hey what you're doing is not correct right you need to delegate. So that's what he said. You know, you need to divide into smaller groups. Raise up leaders who are like you, who think like you, who have the experience that you have and you give the stars to them. They'll be leaders of tens or 20s or 50s, smaller groups, right? And you take on the most difficult things, no difficult tasks that you need to do. So which means what that work is now divided right 10 others are carrying the same load but these people have been adequately trained you know they think like you they also have the experience and maybe they have more experience than you right so you can actually hand over some of those tasks to others so you know u so Jethro did that to Moses and then Moses actually followed it followed this advice and it worked out very well so that is delegation and and so in answer to your question Rajes right you know we need to delegate we can delegate also what are some things that I can delegate and do that that will also help apart from prioritizing that will also help yeah okay we'll start off with the next topic which is money management and then we'll continue in the next class okay so resources Right? We looking at managing resources. We looked at time and money is a very tangible resource that we know that we need to know how to manage. Right? Um so we know that when we plan ahead and when we allocate money okay this much for this particular expense then we that is called budgeting right. So we plan ahead and say okay this is what I will get monthly monthly this is the income what is coming in is income right monthly what is coming into my life that's my monthly income maybe it's a salary maybe it's a business that you're doing and and you're saying okay this much money comes in so based on how much money comes in I'm allocating right I'm saying okay this x amount for this particular thing x amount y amount for this expense so that is called budgeting Right. And and so um we need to make sure that we have a budget, right? Uh you can write it down, you can put it on your Excel sheet. Um or you know it's it's best to record it somewhere so that we have in our minds many times in our minds it's like it's blank right when it comes to expenses. I don't know how much will come in and I don't know how much to I'm I'm spending also all I know is at the end of the month there is nothing left. You know sometimes it's like that. So we need to plan. It's it's so simple terms what is a budget is a budget is a plan of how you're going to spend our money. Um if you're an individual or if you're a corporate or you know everybody has a budget. It is as individuals it's very important that we need to have a budget. It will give us a good uh skill to manage the money well. Right? We will cut down on unnecessary expenses. We know that okay wasteful expenses we can cut down on we can actually change the way we spend right maybe we are used to just ordering things online and you know that okay there is a cost that is attached to it right if you constantly ordering from ordering you know even vegetables and everything they there they might be an offer right they might say okay if you get one one kilo of onions you get 1 kilo of tomatoes also along with they might have a good offer but there is also a transaction cost right because you are buying online there is a transaction cost there could be a delivery cost there could be a handling cost you know so many things added to it and then you add the GST and everything is added to it and so you realize that hey on my way to my house maybe I can stop by and buy it stop and buy and go right so that's a decision that you need to make right if you you're saying okay I don't have the time but I can actually afford buying it online right some of us are like that, right? I don't have the time. I don't have the time to, you know, stop and I need to stop somewhere. I need to go and I don't have the time. It'll take at least, you know, maybe 15, 20 minutes. Uh I need to pay the cashier. Maybe there is a line. All that. If you're thinking of all that and say, "Okay, I can't I don't want to waste my time. I have too many things. I can actually afford to pay this extra for the convenience of this things getting home." Go ahead, do it. But plan ahead right plan ahead and say okay let me have a budget this is how I'm going to spend my money right it'll really help us right so that is what we call a budget okay so preparing a monthly budget uh is something that we will get into in our next class uh you can just go through that also go through the notes it really help us okay we'll stop here thank
