Video summary
In this recap of *Lanterns* Episode 6, titled "Bad Optics," the hosts discuss John Stewart's successful partnership with his brother Marcus to secure major funding for his panic room innovation, a venture that unexpectedly pulls him back to Rushville and forces him to confront his past. The episode is praised for Aaron Pierre's fantastic portrayal of John Stewart, particularly in scenes where he effortlessly handles white men who underestimate him, showcasing his business acumen and power without relying solely on the Green Lantern ring. However, the hosts express significant concern that the show remains too grounded for a space-based hero, noting the complete absence of aliens despite the franchise's core identity revolving around extraterrestrial threats and diverse species. They argue that while the writing and dialogue are excellent, the lack of cosmic elements feels like a cost-cutting measure that detracts from the true essence of Green Lantern lore.
A major plot point discussed is the controversial death of Hal Jordan, who was blamed by the town of Rushville for the destruction caused by Zoe's robot, leading to his ten-year imprisonment and eventual apparent demise. The hosts debate whether this narrative choice is justified or if it serves as an unfair scapegoat scenario, especially given that Hal's presence actually prevented a worse outcome during the chaos in Episode 5. Additionally, the episode introduces romantic subplots involving Carrie and Billy getting back together, which surprises the hosts, as well as Maggie's demand for reparations totaling $300,000. The hosts delve into the real-world economic theories behind this figure, referencing economist Dr. William Darity Jr.'s work on reparations for Black Americans, suggesting that the show is attempting to address historical injustices through its storytelling, even if the execution feels rushed or overly dramatic to some viewers.
The discussion also covers the introduction of Carol Ferris and the mysterious behavior of John's father, who appears mentally unstable after ten years, raising questions about whether he is genuinely ill or being manipulated by Sinestro. The hosts analyze the fight scene between John Stewart and Billy, highlighting John's military background and his decisive victory, while criticizing Billy for calling the police immediately after getting beaten up. They also touch upon the funeral of Hal Jordan, which was attended by very few people including Carol Ferris, and question why John did not simply take the ring before the burial took place. The episode ends with John utilizing a trick to extract 5% more energy from the ring, leaving an AI bot that supports him, setting the stage for future developments in Season 2 where the show might finally expand its budget to include more space battles and alien encounters.

What is going on everybody? It's your
favorite duo and we are back be Avery
and Lamont. This is Lanterns
episode 6 titled Bad Optics. John
partners with brother Marcus to land a
major investor for his panic room
innovation. But in an unexpected call
pulls him back to Rushville and his
past. Lamont, I was supposed to bring up
a book in reference to this episode, but
I forgot. Maybe I can pull up an image
or something like that. Yes, guys, we
are talking spoilers. You probably
already know that, but if you're new
here, if you haven't seen the episode,
Turn away now. Oh, Lamont, the crap hit
the fan. Episode 5. We talked about,
"Hey, 2016 is over. Now we picking it up
in 2026." And that's where we are right
now. Sir, how did you feel about the
episode? Did you like it? Did you hate
it? Are you somewhere in the middle?
Please let us know. let us know. I'm
dying to hear it.
>> Well, ladies and gentlemen, first and
foremost, I want to ask that y'all
forgive me for my rudeness. My daughter,
who stood be in bed right now, is trying
to call me, and I'm a stickler for
perfection. Um, and and trying to get
these things going. So, y'all forgive me
for my daughter calling, but I love this
episode. Um, just think of this phone
ringing as Green Lantern calling me
because he want me to come help him bail
out Sinestro. That's what's going on. I
I thought the way Aaron is playing John
Stewart, folks. You are watching
greatness. That's I I mean, I don't know
how else to tell you this. I am loving
the way he's portraying it. And I think
that it could be good, but I'm also
afraid of this audience and be Avery.
He's doing such a good job with this
series.
>> I am really afraid that when they bring
the Justice League together, the story
that they'll use to bring them together
is going to be Sinestro and the Yellow
Lantern Corps, maybe Parallax, maybe
some of the other lanterns versus the
Justice League. I don't want to see
that. Not not I don't want to see that
as the first team up for the Justice
League. We all know what we want to see
for the team up. We want Dark Side.
Don't play with us. And now that
Paramount has fully got a deal on the
table and is going to be buying Warner
Brothers, there's a great chance James
Gun and this team we have right now
might go and it might change the
direction.
But if they can keep up with what
they're doing, I think they've got at
least this TV series could go at least
another four more years.
>> Okay. Um I'm with you. I don't think I
would want to see that either. Um I do
agree with you as far as saying the way
that um Aaron Pierre is playing the role
is fantastic, but I I have a lovehate
relationship uh with the show right now.
I mean, it's good. M
>> I I love the writing,
>> but
this is not the adaptation that I want
to see. It is still a bit too grounded
for me. We have eight episodes and uh
this is number six. We got two left, but
we just really don't got no aliens. We
have not seen one alien in the whole
show. And you know that Green Lantern is
all about the extraterrestrials, the
aliens, killer wallog, I mean all types
of species and we're just not getting
that. And that that bothers me. The
there was even a line of dialogue where
they said God Gardner was in China or
overseas and he moved some pandas in a
bubble, but we didn't let them know that
the bubble didn't have to be all green.
It could have been clear or whatever.
Even when we was seeing fly, how fly, it
was no highlighting of green or anything
like that. So, this would be very
palatable to somebody that's coming into
the show that's not familiar with the
lore. But that's really my my biggest
gripe right there. Again, then there was
some things in this episode that I
absolutely love that we going to talk
about. I love that Aaron Pierre, John
Stewart was able to whip those five five
white men ass with ease. I mean, it was
it was just a cakewalk for him. Like if
you don't turn that off, we're going to
turn you off. One, two, and then he
going to say three and then swing first.
I mean, I love it. I love it. I love it.
I love it. Uh but you know what I just
mentioned, that is my main criticism.
However, I did love the way that the
episode ended with um you know, we we we
don't have to jump ahead too far there,
but um I'm based off your body language
and you saying Uhhuh. I'm I'm assuming
that you do agree with what that last
part I said. Is that is that safe to
say?
>> I agree with a lot of what you said, but
I'm kind of at a place now in life where
I have the space for two things to be
running congruently.
You know, if you don't know or if you're
new to me and be Avery, we're both we're
we're nerves for this thing. We're both
rooted and grounded in the cartoons and
the comic books. And so Green Lantern,
like he said, is a more spacebased
intergalactic hero. Earth is just a
speck of a sector that they are supposed
to be defending. And so, while me and B
Avery for years have complained that
when you make these movies and you make
these TV shows, you don't give us what's
really in the cartoon or the comic book
cuz you're trying to save money. And
this is clearly an example of they're
trying to save money. However,
as much as I would normally complain
about that, ladies and gentlemen, the
the storytelling and the writing and the
dialogue in this show has been so good
for me. I'm willing to overlook that
gripe that I normally would have for
this series. Now, they should do more
with the ring. Like, we we we we should
be if we're not going to get more
aliens, we should definitely be getting
more usage of the ring. And maybe
they're gonna s save all that be for the
very finale or something. But I think
the thing that the audience might want
to consider, this is just season one.
>> They wanted to make sure they got it
right and maybe in season two when they
be like, "Okay, the audience loved it.
They can break out the coffers and spend
more money, we can get more of a
space-based battle going on."
>> Okay. Yeah, I I can dig it. I can dig
it. But we're 10 years ahead now. Um
John Stewart is having a board meeting
or some type of meeting and uh he wants
$30 billion. I know this may sound
crazy, but this $30 billion that y'all
have set aside over here. Give it to me.
I can build 40 of these cities on the
ground, 20,000 people each. If my math
is correct, that's about 800,000 people.
And they did say that that city is in
the millions. Um he said that, you know,
they don't have no Superman in their
city. And we gotta watch out for John
Starfish. So, of course, they
referencing Superman, also from Suicide
Squad. We also got a Batman reference in
here as well. What do you think about
the opening? Also, you know, Marcus is
grown now. Uh, one of the older
brothers. We saw him. We didn't get to
see Aaron. You know, he's over there
being Haiti Mater calling John Mr.
Chosen and all that. Uh but what did you
think about um you know this this
gentleman this white man here with the
suit was like hey you got me convinced
but I can only control the city council
or or the mayor or whatever he said but
you got to convince the the govern the
the government they control the money.
What did you think about that intro and
John just be like hey I was on the Green
Atlanta for five minutes uh but I want
to be an architect you know that that's
uh up his wheelhouse. How did you feel
about that opening right there?
Um, it was just good to see my man on
his business flex. Um, controlling a
room, letting y'all know that he has the
business acumen that can stand in a room
with Bruce Wayne as well as be his own
man. He doesn't have to have a ring to
be a power broker, so to speak. And so,
I enjoyed the way that went down. And it
also showed that with his mind, his
creativity, he's probably gonna be one
of the greatest Green Lanterners ever to
come and will eventually be able to
construct things without needing that
ring. So, just be on the watch out. I
think that this that opening scene and
the way that they showed that design
bunker that he had, cuz folks, make no
mistake, that was a damn bunker. Okay?
It was a bunker. Only thing he didn't do
was include food to go with it. You
might as well do that, too. And um he's
going to be able to make these
constructs that are going to be
unbelievable. And my question is, be
Avery is built to survive alien blast,
alien invasion. But can them bunkers
handle Superman? Do we have anything on
planet Earth that's strong enough to
handle a Superman that would come
through fast as he can go? Let's say he
run around the earth twice to get that
speed built up and come straight for one
of them bunkers. Is that going to
survive Superman?
>> Absolutely not. I think these bunkers
are just for like collateral damage, you
know. But if Superman wanted to get in
there directly, I think that'll be a
cakewalk for him easily, you know,
unless they got u kryptonite steel beams
or something like that, you know,
that'll repel them. But I don't I don't
think that's the case. I will say this,
and I'm pretty sure people are going to
get mad at me. Bernardet is annoying. Um
I don't like her. Uh, I mean, Jesus
Christ. I want to know what happened
between her and the father. Um, he he's
what was the name? LL at uh Campus Crave
or Campus Grove or something. You know,
the director uh he blowing he blowing uh
revolver shots out the window,
complaining about his window uh being
too small. My window too small. But man,
as soon as the meeting was over, he
shook a couple of hands, picked up his
cell phone to call his mama, and she
already calling like, you know, hey, uh,
is that all you got to say? I'm like,
man, will you let this guy breathe a
little bit? Like, what are you doing? I
I I just I was really annoyed by her. Am
I tripping or or you feel the same way?
>> No, I mean, John Stewart feels the same
way. That's why he's calling her
Bernadette, not mama. I mean, like,
there's a limit to all this stuff.
And the kind of mental health trauma
y'all put me through as a kid
and then to learn you still fratonizing
with how come on, man.
>> Yeah.
>> Like, you should be happy I even pick up
the phone. And so, be Avery, you're not
wrong, brother. You right on pace.
>> Okay. Okay. Um, why was Hal Jordan in
jail? I mean, I have my answer that they
told us, but I want to hear in your
words. Why was Hal in jail for 10 years
in your opinion and if you think it was
valid or not?
>> Because they blame him for what happened
in Rushville. Um, somebody had to
somebody had to take a dive and so he
took the dive for basically taking out
um uh golly, sexy grandma robot. I can't
even manhunter. And the town hated him.
Zoe. Yeah, Zoe Town hated him. He was
the perfect scapegoat. All the damage,
Zoe being dead, he was the one that they
wanted to blame for it. That's why they
stuck his butt in jail.
>> Right. That's That's fair. I I just
think it's a bunch of BS. He couldn't
like going back to episode five when
Carrie um emptied the magazine and he
held the shield. He couldn't She was
like, "Leave, leave, leave." He could
not leave because Anton and his gang was
going to blow the place up anyway. So
what was he going to do? Well, he could
he could have left and let Zoe fight
Anton and them and it still would have
been uh destruction. So he could have he
could have stayed. If anything, he he's
yes, it was still a lot of death. It was
still a lot of mayhem, chaos, and
coinage, but it would have been more if
he wasn't there. Everybody would have
been dead. There would have been no
survivors. I know Maggie won
reparations, and we going to talk about
that too in a second. Well, later on in
this recap review, but I'm just like,
"Okay, hell no." Then you get out of
jail and you trying to go and give
deliver groceries and mow people's lawns
and stuff and I got a Green Lantern,
too. No, I'm putting my foot down. We
got to get some stuff straight here.
Okay. I give me some goddamn respect.
Y'all not going to be spitting in my
face and over my grave, you know? Like I
I That was a very That was very very
annoying to me. I did not think that we
was going to see this how this side of
how um as well uh when he was in the
restaurant in the diner too. Uh I mean
he no he did not apologize to John and
John didn't give a damn. Spurred them
just swung on them in the in the in the
um in the nose. But before that though
like f all the people at Rushfield. Oh
yeah. Yes. Some people died but it would
have been worse if I wasn't here. Y'all
need to respect me. Am I tripping or am
I am I missing something?
>> Well, I mean, yeah, you missing the fact
that the town blames him for it because
Zoe was funding everybody. You got to
keep in mind, Zoe had everybody in her
back in in its back pocket. And so, they
don't give a damn what he's saying. The
person that was our benefactor, you took
out. We don't know if any of that stuff
you're saying was going to happen, but
we know what we was getting from Zoe.
>> We know what we was gonna get from Zoe.
That's true. That's true. That's true.
Uh Hal is dead, bro. I really wish that
I mean it. Well,
yeah, but the writing is on the wall,
man. I don't know how I don't know what
type of Jedi mind trick force powers
they going to pull to make him alive.
But is he really dead? Cuz that that
bothers me because I mean I trust me, I
want to see a black John Stewart Green
Lantern. You know what I'm saying? But
at the same time, how from the the
comics and the cartoons and all that
that I know, how was still a G.
>> And you know that he is walking around
with a stick up his butt, getting on
everybody nerve, and now he dead. I
mean, we have not are we ever going to
see how Jordan really go off as Green
Lantern, really, you know, team up with
the Justice League and everybody else.
It doesn't seem like that.
>> Doesn't seem like that way at all. be
because bro, if he's not if he's not
dead, he's not dead because he's done
gone dark side with Sinestro. And you
remember his his story arc in several
comic book runs ends with him going
rogue and John Stewart having to take
him down in several I mean they've even
done an iteration in the cartoons of one
that me and you reviewed maybe what
maybe two three months ago.
>> Yeah. Um beware my power.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, I I think that
we the only good look that we got from
Hal was him at that dinner table getting
his nose broke the hell off.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Uh he he ate that. And
what's crazy is two hours after that
where it seemed like John was just
detested
>> by Howal. He he really cared for him.
Just the way that Hal hated Sinestro but
still loved him and the Guardian hated
that. Jon still loves Hal to a degree.
He just mad and frustrated because when
he got the call from Carrie, he came
running. And matter of fact, I did not
see that coming either. Uh Carrie and
Billy are divorced and or separated. And
um Hal and and Carrie been getting
booty. They've been smashing each other
for for a little bit. You know, he
started out writing little love for pay
love letters, you know, and like a
little wooy wooy woo in her ear and she
Oh my god. Now, you know what? What got
the panty draws? cuz you like I did not
see that coming at all. A Lamont, the
floor.
>> I told you. I told you it was going to
happen and you told me I didn't know
what I was You told me I was seeing
stuff.
>> Did you really say that?
>> I told you that. Yes. Episode two
review. I said them two got a thing for
each other. You was like, Lamont, you
always say that. You always think
somebody want panty draws. Well, be
able. This is life, buddy. Men always
want panty draws. Okay. Yes.
That's what that is a fundamental to
life. We wouldn't be here if somebody
didn't want panty draws. Okay. It's
going to always be there. It's going to
be in just about every story. And
they're going to always find a way to
weave in some romance. And that's what
we got from him.
>> Yeah. That that is what we got. Um that
is what we got. Um now Maggie, she wants
the panty draws too or the boxer briefs
uh from John. Um, do you uh do you trust
her? Do you like her? She's always
sitting on the curb somewhere with a
Shirley Temple haircut. Now, that was
the same little girl that saw her mom or
dad blowing to bits at the last episode
cuz she said she was nine, right?
>> Uh that was crying at the end and he was
like, "I'm sorry. That's the same. Is
that the same little girl growing up?"
>> She was 14 years old or 12 or seven or
something like that back then. Yeah. So,
is she mad at John or does she want to
get inside? Because, you know, she was
winking at him or was she playing possum
or something?
>> Oh. Oh. Oh, no. Um, you know, they they
portrayed that girl pretty deceptively.
And I like the way they did it cuz at
first you thinking this chick is a
little crackhead,
>> a little attractive crackhead at that
like
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> I was like that's that's a little cute
crackhead, you know? And then next
thing,
>> wow,
>> she's in there. Um,
and shout out to Hunter Biden. That's my
favorite crackhead of all the people.
But she gets into the restaurant and
then she's working there. She giving him
coffee and stuff for free. Then she show
up and this talking about she want
reparations. Now, I ain't mad at her
because she let us know that the town is
not racist, but what you did to my
family hurt me.
And I'm thinking to myself,
how you going to run? First of all, the
terminology reparations,
>> girl, just just say give me some payback
because it's not like this man came in
here and destroyed a whole generation of
people. Okay? He didn't do that, you
know? If anything, you should have just
said, you know, um, I couldn't get my
life insurance. Uh, my life is torn up.
You see, I'm working at that dingy ass
diner. Just help me out. Give me
$400,000. Let's call it a day and then I
might give you some panty draws and we
keep it moving. Boom.
>> Yeah.
>> And he didn't give her no answer. So, we
don't know what's he going to do. I
don't think he gonna give her the money.
I think he's going to help her. Don't
get me wrong. I think somehow someway
he's going to help her, but in terms of
giving her the money, I don't think he
doing that. Where do you think she got
that figure from? It was very exact down
to the cents. 57 cents or something like
that. 312,000 something something
dollars 57.
>> The reason why I asked
>> Oh, go ahead. Go ahead with your answer.
Go ahead.
>> I'm thinking that might have something
to do with the value of life insurance,
the value of damage. Um,
the value of what she lost and she's
adding interest to it year over year.
It's got something to do with something
something like that that she lost.
>> You know what's interesting is uh we're
recording this on Tuesday and I first
saw the episode Sunday, but it was the
episode was really watching me more than
it I was kind of halfleep, but when I
heard $300,000, I was just tired. I was
tired.
>> When I heard $300,000 in reparations, it
perked me up,
>> Lamont.
>> Okay,
>> that figure is not random. Okay, I got
to research on who wrote this episode,
but that is a close rough estimate on
how much black Americans are owed in
value for reparations. Now, I don't want
to say $300,000 in cash, but $300,000
worth of resources that does include
land acquisition. Now, mind you, the
devil is in the details and this is a
very multi-layered, multiaceted
endeavor, okay? That $300,000 is only
what the American government owes black
Americans for Jim Crow and the years of
slavery. There's still a dollar amount
that foreign Europe uh u foreign nations
owe us as European nations owe us as
well. I don't have that figure. The only
economist that I know right now that
would have a remote inkling of that is
uh Thomas
and yes who wrote this book. We going to
go to school real quick. Uh who wrote
this book right here called Capital in
the 21st Century. He is French. Okay.
This book is around 750 pages. Yeah.
Thomas Um, they had a documentary
on Netflix about this a couple of years
ago. Uh, and it was long and daunting if
you're not going to read the 750 pages,
but there's probably other economists
out there that knows the the foreign the
amount that foreign nations owe us. I I
I I have no idea. I haven't d dove it
that deep into the uh the rabbit hole
yet. However, but somebody that does
know um that came up with the 300,000 is
this guy right here. And I know you know
who he is, Lamont, cuz we talked about
him. Dr. William Sandy Darity, a black
American economist from Duke University.
William A. Sandy Darity Jr. is a
prominent American economist and the
Samuel Deose Cook Distinguished
Professor Emirates of Public Policy,
African and African-American studies and
economics at Duke University. Uh he
wrote the book uh from here to equality,
reparations for black Americans. The
first chapter of the book talks about
the first reparations movement, the pros
and cons of that. Uh, I'm just going to
say that to say read the book. Uh, if
you want some education on that. Uh, but
in short, black, if you are a black
American and you can trace your
ancestries back to the census, uh, which
you know, my dad did a great job. He
can, uh, the American government owes
you $300,000 worth of resources. Uh so
don't argue with me, argue with him. You
know, if anybody tries to argue with me
in that in the comment section, I will
block you unapologetically.
Uh but uh when I saw when I was saw the
episode, I was like, "What is going on?
This is this is crazy. Did a black
person write this?" Okay, but you know,
anyway, uh but that's just good
information. What did you think about
the mortician uh or the morg that that
was like, "I'm ignoring you and uh it's
going to take four months to get this
blood s back." She was a She was a mean
cockatu. But what did you think?
>> Ain't you very nice when you reference
these ass people? Ain't you so
nice? You're a very nice gentleman. That
lady I mean I understand why she's mad
because her benefactor is dead and she
blames it on the lanterns. I get it. But
at the same time, one of the people you
blaming is laying here on this table
dead. and we can expedite him getting
going to wherever he need to go at if
you give us a little help and stop being
a butthole.
>> And eventually she did give a little
help, but then she went right back to
being uh a um Waller style butthole.
>> Yeah.
>> And um I wonder if we're going to see
her again in the future.
>> Probably not. Probably not. Uh but y'all
let us know what y'all think. Um as well
as also I want to know the the
reparations conversation too. say, "Man,
what kind of security device did H have
on his um uh fortress of storage?
>> You know, this is your first and only
warning. If you try to do it again,
>> I'm like, damn. Is it going to blow up
or shoot some acid out? What What you
think is in there?" But probably the
lantern,
>> uh the charge the charge battery. What
else you think he got in there? Cuz that
was uh that was pretty secure right
there. And yeah, we going to get in
there. What you think?
>> Maybe he got a new suit in there. He's
got definitely that that lanterns in
there.
>> Um
>> I don't know what else could possibly be
in there. All I know is he didn't do a
good job of having a transition plan for
his meat eatating flour.
>> Yeah.
>> And I guess John Stewart
>> I guess John Stewart is going to have to
adopt the meat eatating flour. They're
gonna be sitting there eating meat
together. They can be eating chicken
nuggets right beside each other dipping
it in sauce now.
>> Yeah. Yeah, man. What's up with uh
what's up with um John's parents though,
man. Burn the dead and daddy. Um John
Senior,
>> are they still together?
>> They're nuts.
>> They ain't together. I mean cuz dad is
in the retirement community.
>> I mean he Yeah. And going cuckoo for
cocoa punch, but I mean they could be
separated or they still could be
together. It's been 10 years. I don't I
don't know. Um and something's telling
me that I'm missing something here and I
know some Brandon come. You didn't pay
attention, Brandon, at the 26 second
mark in the episode. Um, why what is he
going crazy or is he playing possum too?
Because
>> his brother was like, "Hey, man. He
Aaron was like on on the phone like,
"Hey, man. Uh, he's just doing this to
get attention." So, do you really think
he's trying to get attention or or um or
or is there something really wrong with
him? you know, have some Alzheimer's or
or, you know, some cognitive disease,
you know, and what exactly did what
exactly did they do to piss John off so
much to where he just like, "F y'all, I
don't want to talk." What what's going
on there?
I think that that's just, you know,
after he turned down that ring, he just
kind of feel like y'all made me go
through all that hardship. Um, you know,
beratement,
death, shooting apples off my head and
stuff for what that ring brought and I'm
supposed to be cool with y'all. And
Bernardet was the worst of the two, you
know, at the end of the day. So, I can I
definitely understand why he's not
trying to call her mama, but I I think
that I think that somebody's messing
around with the daddy's head. I think
that maybe Sinestro or somebody's
fooling around with him to drive him
crazy, and that's going to come out
maybe later on.
>> I'm pushing back, sir, because they
didn't take the ring away from John. He
turned it down. It was right there.
He He chose not to do it. It it was it
was from no influence in them. They was
like, "Hey, son, we're cheering you on.
We finally made it to the finish line."
Oh, I don't want it because it corrupted
Howal and made him ugly on the inside.
True. But that doesn't mean that it's
going to do you that way. And you
clearly want the ring now because of the
way that the episode ends. So you could
have been, you know, flossing for 10
years now, living it up.
>> Don't be Who the only person you should
be bitter with is the person in the
mirror.
>> No, man. I mean, what if Papa Avery for
years was shooting apples off your head
and then the specific reason he had
apples being shot off your head, you see
the power and you see how that power
corrupted corrupted someone else
>> and you be like, "Dad, you made me go
through all this."
>> No.
>> For a power that can corrupt,
>> power to corrupt. He chose the He chose
that himself because episode one, we
thought he was the daddy being a hard
ass, but John was the one that was like,
"Hey, daddy, put an apple on my head."
And remember, uh John Sior was like,
"Hey, man, he's going to hate us." It
was and y going, I know the women
especially going to be mad at me for
talking about Bernardet, but Bernardet
was the the wrong one pushing them like
I don't care if he hate us. You know
what I'm saying?
>> Uh John Sena seemed like he had a soul.
So I I I don't
>> I don't I mean okay a lot can happen in
10 years
>> but
>> I don't we don't I don't know you know
where the disconnect is and why John
don't even want to take phone calls now
from his daddy. Um
maybe because Aaron's a hater. I don't
know. And you know I wonder what the
relationship between Aaron and Marcus is
too.
>> Um me too. But I am cur I don't know. Do
y'all think that Sinestro is playing
with and I don't want to call Lamont
crazy because I do and he end up being
right. So, but I think Sinestro is
playing mind games with Hal. Not with
Hal, but with John. Um I don't I I would
just like to know that, man. I I would
just like to know that. I would just
like to know, you know. Uh but talk
about this right here, man. Um he he
calls the bat signal, not the bat
signal, but the Green Lantern signal.
So, they say that we, you know, he
copied off Batman and uh these five dumb
asses want to run up and uh tell us what
happened, Lamont, and and how you was
feeling watching this scene right here.
>> Well, uh one of them just happened to be
um the father of the kid
of the sheriff and
>> Noah and Billy
>> runs up there, Billy. and and John is
thinking that he's going to be able to
have, you know, a kosher conversation
with him, you know, almost as if we in
Jerusalem. It's going to be very kosher.
And then he runs up on him, he starts
talking And next thing I know, he
basically gives him a choice. He was
like, in essence, he said, "We can do
this the easy way or the hard way." And
Billy being about 5 foot one and a half,
soaking wet, decides he wants to do
things the hard way since he has an
advantage in the numbers he's thinking,
>> right?
>> But you don't know this man's military
background and training. You don't know
this dude is a stone cold killer,
>> right?
>> And so
>> they p they persist to get into a little
fisty cuffs and they start a countdown.
Now folks, if you get into a real fight
with somebody, do not start a countdown.
The minute somebody else open their
mouth to count, you need to fill their
mouth with teeth from your fists. Okay?
Just like John Stewart did. John Stewart
let that man get to about two and
three/4ers and he laid him out. He beat
they ass so fast I thought he was the
Flash, not the Green Lantern. That's
what I was thinking.
>> Yeah.
>> He wo them out. And then I was worried
somebody was going to pop out from
behind some wood, some bushes or
something. Like I was like, "This can't
be it." And it was.
>> It was. And send him to jail when he was
trying to get Guy Gardner to come on
down and talk to him.
>> Yeah, man. It was glorious. I definitely
did enjoy that ass of him right there. I
knew he was going to win, but Oh, it it
was just beautiful. I think I ran that
back a few times like Yes. You know, I I
love that. But Lamont, this is some bull
crap, man. I would not be in jail for
this. No. No. I mean, how first of all,
how you going to get your ass whooped
and then calling Tattletail? You know
what I'm saying? Like, that's just
really ridiculous to me. Hey, he jumped
us, you know, like I I really wish I
would have heard that 911 call to that
dispatch to to hear these weasels
crying, you know.
>> Are you serious? Be a That's why John
thought that the city is racist cuz
that's some straight up MAGA right
there. You have the advantage on
somebody. You think you're going to jump
them and beat him down. You get your ass
whipped. Now you want to call the
police.
>> Yeah, that's that's awful. I I'm I'm
pissed that he was in jail, though. Uh
he's a big he I would have fought uh
that that's and I'm kind of annoyed with
Carrie too. Like
>> okay yeah you're saying that the whole
town is looking at you and you got a
safe face but she didn't have to charge
him up like that in the house
>> like
that was that was a bit unnecessary and
what you care for anyway. Billy is your
ex. So come on Carrie you kind of you
kind of dropped the ball right there. Uh
but we still we got God Gardner here,
man. Uh he called Hal a or
uh for calling him a a gym
teacher. He was like, "I am an athletic
director."
And and John John was trying to cater to
his feelings. Uh may he may have been an
athletic director. That may have been
the actual title, but he was offended by
that right there. I love the dialogue.
He's like, "Bro, you only got what you
got because I turned it down."
>> He couldn't do He couldn't do nothing
but change the subject. So, did you hear
what happened on Shakazam? They bust out
of jail.
>> He was like, "Ah, you got me.
All right. All right. Uh, but no, man.
Uh, what you think about that right
there?" And also, who who bust uh who
bust out of jail?
Man, that belt was so funny to me. That
It's hard for me to look at Guy Gardner
in that cereal bowl haircut for it. It
really looked like somebody put a bowl
on his head and took some scissors and
went around it. I mean, that's the butt
of a lot of people's jokes during the
90s and 80s, man.
>> Yeah.
>> And then he's got on a pat leather suit
of all the Green Lantern. He's got he
got to have the ugliest ass suit of all
of them.
>> Right.
>> But hey, it looks like gym teacher
apparel if you was a Green Lantern. So,
I give him credit for that. Um,
I love the way John had to put him in
this place and let him know, dude,
if it wasn't for me, you still be a gym
teacher. Oh, excuse me, athletic
director. You know, you still be
climbing up ropes, as how Jordan said.
Yeah. Yeah. That's what you still be
doing. And you could do me this one
solid. And you know, I'm I'm grateful to
hear the stories of how you met Hal and
he was in jail. But you're dag on right.
This man deserved to be in his suit. He
deserved that ring because he was the
first damn Green Lantern of Earth
Sector. So you take your butt up there
to them lanterns. I mean to to to the
Guardians and you get me what I need and
don't come back to Sweet. Get out of
here, buddy. And get a better haircut
while you gone.
You're on mute.
>> Thank you, sir. My fault. We found out
uh that the high security facility that
uh Sinestra was in is not on OA. I
thought it was, but it's a completely
different place. But do do you have any,
you know, idea, speculation on who
brought bust him out, bust the Sinestra
out?
>> Man,
it can only see
>> it could be anybody. There are a range
there are a range of people in this
story that could have done a couple of
things. Like we we're still trying to
figure out who killed Hal. Then we want
to know who bust out Sinestro. And
there's one individual that could have
done both. And that's Lyanna the
Guardian. Cuz I told you I don't trust
her.
>> I don't trust Lyanna the Guardian. And
then when it comes to who could possibly
have shot Howal or who could have been
in cahoots with shooting Hal, I would
say Billy's son is probably a top
suspect for that. But at the end of the
day, I think it's Lyanna because we've
not seen her have a conversation with
the other Guardians. We don't know what
the other Guardians thinking. We don't
know what she's really thinking. And we
know she hated Sinestro. We think she
hated Hal. We think it would be
very rich to see her team up with the
people she hated because the folks she
really hate are the Guardians.
Could it be Maggie?
>> Because she she threat but the reason
why I asked because she did threaten
John. She because remember when he was
at the diner, Hal was like, "Hey, don't
tell nobody was here talking to me."
wonder why she was outside and saw that.
Uh but when they was having the
conversation during this scene when she
was asking for the reparations, he was
like, "Oh, that's why you cover for me.
Give me the money or I'm going to tell
the sheriff any everything like that
matters." Uh but yeah, you know, at this
point we knew that we couldn't trust
her. Um you don't but you don't think
it's her.
>> It's not the cute crackhead. No,
>> not the cute crackhead. Okay. Okay.
Okay. Okay. Um, man, I have never seen a
funeral uh with with nobody there. Uh,
that's crazy.
It had a It had a num It had two people.
No, three people. Who Who is this other
white lady here? I forgot
who who who is this?
>> Her name is Car. They said Carol Ferris.
Um, but you know, y'all gonna be mad at
me. You be you're not paying attention.
But um who who who where where did she
ever pop up before? It's probably very
obvious. And you know
>> I don't I don't I don't recall seeing
her pop up before, but they had an
intense conversation with her. So she's
definitely somebody we need to be aware
of.
>> Yeah. Yeah. We we definitely need to be
aware of her. Um now let me ask you
this. Going back to Noah, the son of
Billy and Carrie, the sheriff, he wants
to be a senator and uh was doing the
good work, his uh doorway to the
presidency. For some reason, I feel like
that's an important little nugget,
Easter egg that they throwing in there
for the future. What say you or am I
looking too far into this?
>> Oh, no. 100%. like some of these
characters probably going to cross over
into the cinematic universe and he
definitely is probably going to be one.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um what else, Lamont?
Um I've been driving the bus. You know,
you've been in the passenger seat. What
else stood out to you? Um you have any
comments on the eulogy that Hal wrote to
himself at the funeral as well? And uh
you know also I just also gotta say it's
really interesting to me when people put
on the front because at the very
beginning you would have thought that
John would have blew how face off on
site with a shotgun you know. Yeah he
did swing on him but he showed up to the
dead body. He showed up to the morg. He
put on the funeral.
Um
what what's going on there man? He
really loves this guy.
>> Yeah. Um, I don't think there's much
there, my brother. I think that that's
just one we're going to have to see them
continue to flesh out. I think that
what's interesting to me is now that
Jon, you know, has perpetuated his plan,
he's got the ring, and he used that
trick to get 5% more energy.
Now, we're going to be stuck with the AI
bot that actually likes John. Mhm.
>> And I'm interested to see if Howal did
any more recordings over the last 10
years. And I think it's safe to say that
that AI bot is what's going to be able
to open um how's um bot supports um
servitude.
>> Okay. Yeah, cuz it got 5% left. We
thought that the ring was decommissioned
and with his 5% man the uh hologram the
AI bot man. Say the say the uh say the
what's it called? I can't think of the
name. Say the oath. Get the power.
>> And brightest day and darkest night, no
evil shall escape my sight. Beware my
something something. Green lantern's
light.
>> Yeah, say it and get the power, man. Uh
I mean he may he using up all the energy
on the on the AI bot. Um that did excite
me. I mean, I'm the episode wasn't bad,
but you know, from my criticism in the
beginning, I want to see more alien
stuff. And so, I'mma be disappointed if
by the end of this season, John is not a
lantern. He's not a Green Lantern, you
know? I I They need to really go off,
but they trying to save money, you know.
Um or they just don't Well, I don't want
to say they don't have faith. But that's
interesting, man. Uh, I cannot wait to
see what this AI robot is going to be
talking about in the next episode.
Hopefully they don't jump to the year
2037 and we got to wait till season two
to find out what happened after this cuz
this timeline is like a whirlwind.
But man, um I I I'm I'm enjoying it. Um,
but does this make sense? There was
nobody at the funeral at the wake. God
Garner left. So, why didn't you just
Were you not able to take the ring
before they was buried? Before he was
buried, was nobody gonna say nothing?
Was nobody there? And what what am I
missing? Am I tripping or what am I
overlooking?
>> No, that was a nitpick for me, too. It's
like, dude, guy going um if you take
that ring, who what's who gonna say
something? A pawbearer? What what they
gonna say? like you instead you had to
be all dramatic, go digging in a hole
and then get the ring that way. Come on,
man. Like, yeah, you could have saved
all that.
>> Yeah, I'm I'm pretty sure I'm missing
something here. Um but
>> I don't think you're missing nothing.
>> Cuz it's like, bro, like cuz look, even
when he was walking away, one of the
people was going over there shutting the
shutting um the casket.
>> Okay. I Okay. Okay. because I I was
responding to some important text
messages towards the end of this. So,
I'm just keeping it real over here. So,
sorry guys if if I did miss something,
but I really did like the the the
conclusion of this. You What are your
final thoughts, sir? If any at all.
>> Bring on the final two episodes. I'm
ready to see John Stewart in a Green
Lantern uniform. You have to do that.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I'll be kind of disappointed
if uh if we didn't get that. But ladies
and gentlemen, boys and girls, that is
going to wrap it up for our lanterns
recap review reaction for episode 6, Bad
Optics. We will be here same time uh
same place uh for episode 7 and
hopefully it's going down. And um you
know, they did give me episode one
early, but they didn't give me the other
episodes. But the other the super duper
press, they gave it they gave them like
all the episodes back in April. So,
episode seven is up to what they've
seen, but after that, nobody knows
what's going to happen at the end. So,
we are going to be surprised together.
But guys, uh go ahead and subscribe to
Lamont's political channel right here,
Lamont Tyson, and his movie and TV
breakdowns uh channel as well. And if
you're watching this on either one of
his channels, go ahead and subscribe to
my clips channel, my reaction channel,

month and I also did my second one here
as well. I don't know what happened to
the picture. Okay, here we go. Uh the
director of Heart of the Beast, David
Ay. So, uh make sure you check that out,
too. It would really help your guy out a
lot. I want to do more of these and um I
can if you like the video and leave a
comment. But guys, thank y'all so much
for tuning in. And before you go, don't
forget I'm be Avery, that's Lamont, and
