Video summary

In this recap of *Lanterns* Episode 5, hosts Bri Avery and Lamont celebrate the installment as a season-finale-worthy episode that successfully resolves the arc of Manhunter Zoe while introducing fresh mysteries. The discussion begins with Carrie's harrowing opening scene in Gotham, where she is forced to sever her pinky finger to survive an attack by henchmen; the hosts debate whether this drastic measure was her only option given the aliens' regenerative nanite abilities and the absence of anesthesia. The conversation then shifts to Hal Jordan's controversial decision to leave John Stewart trapped in a burning vehicle, with the analysts weighing whether Hal intended to kill him or merely incapacitate him before an accidental explosion occurred. The episode also delves into Zoe's betrayal of Abin Sur, theorizing that her seductive nature and deep emotional connection to the AI were key factors in his decision to spare her life. The hosts examine the show's intricate family lineage involving William Min, Carrie, Noah, and Zoe, speculating on a secret training or hidden connection between Zoe and young Noah. While critiquing several plot inconsistencies, such as the aliens' lack of advanced weaponry despite their technological superiority and the vulnerability of Manhunters to standard bullets, the group acknowledges the casting choice for John Stewart. They note that while the character is depicted with dark skin in the comics, they praise Aaron Pierre Paul's performance despite the actor being light-skinned. As the episode reaches its chaotic climax, Zoe destroys Rushville and Hal appears to die, though suspicions arise that this may have been a decoy. The hosts highlight the intense non-verbal communication between Hal and John during the turmoil, noting the ambiguity regarding whether Hal's team were acting as police or simply following orders to eliminate any Lantern, including Stewart. A significant point of discussion is John's integrity for rejecting the Power Ring after witnessing its corrupting influence on Hal, which stands in stark contrast to Lyanna's desire to keep it; while some viewers find her harsh words insulting, others appreciate that she admitted her mistakes and received the crystallized heart from Guy Gardner. Looking toward the future of the series, the group expresses excitement for upcoming episodes, speculating that Guy Gardner will temporarily receive the ring before Stewart retrieves it. There is also a debate regarding Lyanna's nature, with some viewers suspecting she is merely a projection who may eventually become a villain alongside Sinestro due to her alien origins and lack of human bonds. Despite these uncertainties about whether Lyanna is real or a construct, the hosts remain hopeful for more content as they anticipate the show's conclusion, eager to see how these complex character dynamics will unfold in the final episodes.

Hey, I got some extra emphasis on a y'all probably know what that means. It is Bri Avery and Lamont. And we are back, baby. We are back. Lanterns episode five, lights out as the making family history unravels. Yes, it does. Rushville mobilizes in the face of the escalating threat as Jon is placed in an impossible position. how risk everything in a final attempt to take down the manhunter. Lamont, my goodness gracious, bro. Y'all, we was smiling. We don't know how each other feels, but we was like, "Hey, man. I am excited to talk to you about this." He was like, "Oh, yeah, me too, Lamont." Bro, this is episode five. We got three left and this felt like the season finale. I'm smiling. I'm excited. This was probably my favorite episode of the whole season. Uh, even though I do have my quibbles. I do have a nitpick or two. Hopefully, you can clarify some things for me. But god dog, man, this was good. This was good. Yes. Yes. Yes. H how did you feel about it, Lamont? Did you hate it? Do you do you agree with me? You somewhere in between? Is it the best? Is the worst? Where you at, sir? Where you at? >> Oh, bro. 100% the best. This This was some good ass TV behavior. I mean I mean I don't had to bring out the cuss words or folks. Remember now I am when I'm on anybody's channel or mine I am the radar YouTube superstar and this was some good ass stuff right man from beginning to the end. We got a lot of answers that we needed answered. We got things that some of us break down these trailers and we be seeing stuff and we got some answers to that. Um, and it felt like a season finale for sure. But it's just crazy that we got three more episodes to go and I'm glad we do because they ended on a cliffhanger that we need to know about, but we ended one villain's run. >> Yes. >> So, what's next? >> Yeah, that that's a good ass question. What What is next? Like, I didn't even think about that. Like I mean other than us trying to find out exactly how H how died if he did or not. Oh it's so much to unpack. The reason why I made this big when you said that cuss words because hey guys this is TVMA. It is t it is mature audiences. So you know I mean that don't mean that we just going to be completely explicit all the way but you know y'all was giving me a hard time talking about sex. But God, I mean Lamont, the plot of the episode of the show is that the man Hunter Zoe, she got the best coochie in all the cosmos. She's seducing everybody. Hal, Alensur, Anton, John Stewart. I mean, uh, will make them. She I I'm I'm being I'm I'm not trying to be funny. I'm being serious. >> That That's That's the plot. That's what happened. Anton said in the episode himself like, "Yes, this is what they do. They seduce the civilization and all this." She talking about adversity is not a bad thing. You can use to make yourself strong. I mean, I'm jumping all the way to three4s in the episode. Let me calm down. Let me calm down. But no, but for real, for real. So, um I I think it's safe to say that the story of 2016 has concluded and we're going to pick things back up maybe in episode 6 in present day 2026. I don't know. I mean, I didn't know that we was going to start out in 2007 right here uh with with with uh Carrie uh running away from the mob bosses in Gotham. And uh I was wondering like, okay, first of all, she's strong as hell. She can push her car in neutral. Uh that's not an easy task. She probably don't look more than 140 lbs, if that. You know, who who strong? Oh, mind you, hold on. I'm tripping. I'm tripping. I I got to do this right. I got the fur out right now. Worldwide Afro Day. Yes. Yes. Yes. Look at it. Look at it. Yes. I'm I'm Yes. Yes. Okay. Back to the show. But she is pushing the cart the cart the car to the diner and then these two henchmen come out of nowhere and threaten the hell out of her saying that your daddy's a snitch. That makes you a snitch by association. She's like, "Fellas, fellas. >> I didn't like that, man. No way." Okay. He wasn't a good daddy. You did what you had to do. I understand. and you killed him. I did not shed the tear. I'm not a threat. And it's like, look, if it's any consolation, I don't take joy in this, okay? I got to kill you. If you try to make a sound, if you try to signal, we going to ice all these rednecks in here. Give me your pinky finger. And then we got kung fu Zoe coming out of nowhere. I was like, "Oh snap." You know what I'm saying? She's snapping next. I'm like, "Oh snap." She putting her finger on pressure point clavicles. Lamont, tell what what was your thoughts, man, [laughter] about this opening opening scene. Man, also you learn you can't judge a book by its cover at all. I mean, this is just the first three minutes, bro. Talk about it. The opening scene, Carrie, all of that. Gotham. I want your thoughts, please. Let's Let's have them. Let's have them. >> Well, we we can 100% confirm she's not a Batoman. Um, based on what we we've seen and saw from this. And I want to know what family was chasing her. Was it the Faulones? Um, you know, was it the family that Penguin was getting into it with? Because I want I would love to see Old Girl again cuz she did such a great job in that show. I miss her to be honest with you. And shout out to B Avery, folks. He's the one that put me on the Penguin. I rolled my eyes when he was like, "Let's [laughter] do Penguin." And folks, it turned out to be a Emmy award-winning show. So, and this is gonna be no different, folks. This this this Green Lantern is great. But I want to know Carrie's backstory. And I'm glad we got to see her in that ugly ass bang because that bang was ugly and her youth. And we got we we learned a little bit more about the manhunter and what the manhunter desires from everybody. The manhunter wants pledge of allegiance. Almost like it's a flag. We can't call it We literally can't call it a a woman or a man because it's it's a robot, ladies and gentlemen. It can morph into whatever it wants to be. So, I am not surprised when B Avery talks about how this thing got the best panty draws in all the cosmos. Because when you can inject blood from your finger that's nanites to reheal skin, folks, you can turn your panty draws into whatever pleasure you want somebody to have. >> Yeah. And Zoe is running around here giving people all the pleasure they want if they pledge filty to her desires. >> Yeah, man. Um I don't blame Carrie at all. Uh she had her back against the corn in the corner with her uh hog tied, man. Arms, legs, all tied behind her back. And I I mean I would she don't know that this is an alien per se. Well, I mean she know she probably know karate or something, but she don't know that she's from the other side of the galaxy. So I I if I'm putting myself in carrot shoes, so I'm like, "Hell yeah, I'm keeping my mouth shut. You just save my You just saved my life. You going to come in here and cure people of cancer and grow crops. All I got to do is keep my mouth shut." Oh, hey, I I'm yours. You know, uh Well, you disagree. You disagree. >> You got You got to chop off your pinky. You know how hard it is to do that without anesthesia. >> Um I I know, but what other choices did she have given the situation? I got to hear it. What What other choice? If you was in Carrie's shoes in in this scene, what would you have done? >> I would have said find somebody else pinky to chop off. >> Oh, come on. Well, well, actually, you got a point there. [laughter] >> Of course. Thank you. >> Of course. Of course. Zoe wanted her to chop the finger off to see if she could if she would be that much of a ride or die, you know? So if she would if Carrie would have said get somebody else finger, Zoe probably wouldn't have, you know, sacrificed for it the way she did. But bro, it look I have a hard time plucking a hangail, let alone you talking about chopping off my pinky finger, even if you can regrow it back. >> Yeah, she didn't know at the time. But where they going to get another pinky from? Because she said what? What? She said, look, even >> the bartender not going to give it up and it's a now that I think it's a male finger, too. So, >> okay. >> The you because she said, "Look, if if I Zoe said, hold on." Zoe said, "Uh, if one sec. Sorry about that." Zoe said, "What are your orders that we was going to kill her, bury her, and show the piggy finger?" She said, "I can't kill I can't just kill them. I got to send her back because that's not going to do anything. The the the boss is just going to send more henchmen." So, I mean, I I didn't I didn't see a choice. Um Carrie's only choice was I can either die right now, continue running because bad guys going to keep coming, or I can chop off my finger. That sucks. But that's the only card that she had to play. And I I I don't blame her. I mean, if somebody saved my life and all they say is just keep your mouth shut, I'm keeping my mouth shut. But that's just me. That's just that's just me. I mean, I I can keep my mouth shut, but I want to keep my finger, too. >> I I don't I don't see any other option. I mean, hey y'all, if y'all see any other options, let us know in the comment section. Now, I have not made the thumbnail or came up with a title for this recap that, you know, we're going to post online. But I think I'm going to have in the title, Hal is on the thumbnail, Hal is trash. Cuz I'm I'm kind of pissed off at him. first in episode one. First of all, I mean, at least he drove the car off the cliff and at least John had the ring to make some bubble wrap. But this time, he's like, "Hey, I'm sorry I wasn't completely transparent with you." Uh, and he's like, "Oh, I'm sorry about the the the uh the rental and going to crash the the car into a telephone pole and leave his ass there to die." Now, let me jump forward just a little bit because Howal may not be he he an [ __ ] but he may not be trash. I'm I'm I'm going to need your help here because when the when the crap was hitting the fan when Rushville was being destroyed, um Hal went in the he not Hal, but John bust into one of the places, got the gun and he was calling his mom and daddy like, "Hey, patch me through to the guardians and we got to we got to talk." And they was like, "Hey, give us an update. Give us an update. Give us an update." He was like, "Well, I was ambushed by Hal. He left me in the car compromised to die. But I don't think those were his intentions. But I'm still don't understand why he was doing that. So the reason why I was saying Hal is trash is because he left Hal there to die, but at the same time he did not know. He he may not have known that the car was going to explode and burn. You know, he may have just thought that he was just going to be stuck there. I don't know. I'm on the fence. What do you think? Do you think that he was trying to kill him, leave him there to die, or just leave him there with him not knowing that the car was going to explode and blow up and burn or whatever? >> When they had that conversation about how Green Lanterns can't kill people, I pretty much felt like he wasn't he he wasn't going to kill him. So, they had that conversation. >> He he didn't have any intentions of killing. He, as a matter of fact, he said in essence, I'm going to come back and get you later. I just need you stuck for the moment. so that you don't mess up anything, Junior. And um next thing you know, we see the car getting disco inferno and then here's Zoe standing there letting it happen. But you know, that's where one of my nitpicks come in a little bit. Bri, I'm sorry. I I got a little nitpick. >> Oh, no. I I have a few too. We going um we're definitely going to talk about it. Man, I had another point I was going to make, but it just slipped my mind. Um well, no, it came back. So, one thing that they could have included when Hal came back and was like, "Hey, I don't trust you either because you were working with the Guardians to replace me and you didn't reveal that information." I kind of felt at that moment that John could have been like, "Well, yeah, I knew that they wanted to replace you, but I didn't replace you. They told me all I had to do was take the ring and say the oath and it could be mine." Have I done that? How? Doesn't that prove that I am not necessarily with them and I don't trust them just like you don't trust them so why you hoing me? He could have said that. How How do you feel about that? Does that make sense? >> I thought about that too. I thought he could have pretty much told him, you know, I could have took you out and I didn't >> and look what you doing to me. >> Yeah. >> You know, um and and and in the heinous manner that you did it. Like seriously, he could have really hurt John. He could have like I mean anything the air the airbag might not have deployed. He could have crushed the dude legs. He could have really hurt this guy, you know, but he didn't. Um and that was a very very psychotic way to try to have somebody trapped. Can't you just use your ring and tie them up to the to the flag pole or something? Like >> there was better ways you could have done this than what you did. And John John could have done a better job of letting him know that, you know, I I had mercy on your old ass. >> Yeah, >> I did. >> Yeah. >> But he didn't. But I know one thing me and you wanted to see after the way we said this last review. Howal needed a butt whipping from John. [laughter] >> He got [clears throat] one, too. He got He He got He got one, too. Yeah. Look at him. Look at him. Yeah, [ __ ] It's my ring. My ring. Now, uh before we get there though, uh we got we got to talk about this family uh lineage here that they purposely made confusing because you have William Min, the the head guy. Uh and man, his confidence depleted, you know, when before he went out, but he is um Carrie is his uh Carrie is his daughter, okay? and she married uh Billy that was wanting to get involved in the fight but she was like you need to get out of here. Her child is Noah and which makes Zoe Noah's stepg grandmother and she was like uh hey it's going down or it's going down people are going to die or you going to die he's crying but she says um what did I teach you be seen without being seen so she been training this little boy so I don't I don't it's not a biological tie between them but she said don't forget what I talked you or don't forget what we talked about or what you promised or something like that. I forgot the exact line of dialogue. What do you think the secret is? And mind you, this is 2016. So when we catch up to present day, this is 10 years later. Oh, you know, he may be at least 19 20 years old. Excuse me. What What do you What do you think the little secret thing that she was like, don't don't remember what we trained for or promised or whatever. You know what I'm talking about, right? >> Yeah. >> What What do you think that was, >> boy? Ain't that the same little boy that John Stewart was teaching how to throw the football? I think that's the same little boy. >> Probably. I don't know. >> And if we fast forward, you know, that boy is going to remember John Stewart and probably remember John Stewart in a favorable manner. Um, I wonder if this kid got powers behavior. I wonder if he's part part manhunter somehow someway, part human. And obviously he must be some kind of good detective too because she's trained him how to do that. So I am very curious to know and they have to pay that off. What does this little boy know? What is his secret that he's holding on to? What can he do that we don't see? He's probably part I I would say maybe he's part manhunter. Um there's something going on here, you know. Maybe he's part whatever race Aban Sewer was. It could be it could be any number of things, but I'm interested to see what it is. >> I don't I don't know. I I I mean, I I've had my, you know, predictions that were wrong. You usually get these things more correct than I do. Uh, you know, we're famous for me thinking you saying something off the wall and then it comes true. But she said, "No matter what happens, I got it right here. Don't forget everything I've told you." So, I'm I'm curious. I'm curious what it is. Something now. Uh le let's just get a couple of nitpicks out the way or or clarifications. The Guardians created the Manhunters and they were going around doing justice, but it was too brutal. And the Guardians killed all the Manhunters except for Zoe. One thing I want to know is why didn't they kill her? Another thing is if these are galactic terrorists that just started doing whatever the hell they wanted, what did Abinsur see in Zoey that made him want to save her and she betrayed him anyway? I mean, and I'm not trying to be funny. Maybe it was the coochie because Anton >> Okay, cuz cuz Anton said later on, "Have you ever been betrayed by somebody you love?" And uh I'm I'm 99.9% sure he was talking about Zoe as well. So that's the only thing that I can think of is like you know she slept with him and he was like damn I don't I can't kill you because it's too good. Let's go to Earth and we can do this every day. Other than that what was it that Abentur saw in Zoro that made him want to save her to spare her? >> Bro, it was the computer love. end of the day that's all it was the computer love and folks let's not forget that these men are being taken over and having sex with a android you know this is what they're doing in China right now as we speak they got some of the best little robotic dolls that are having sex with men and >> this is true >> hey >> for for those women that are always getting on social media complain about they tired of dudes hollering at them in the gym The androids is coming. And if they these androids get anything like these manhunters, y'all will become manhunters yourselves because you ain't going to be able to find a man. So, I'm assuming that the only thing Abin Sewer did or could have possibly had done. Or maybe it's probably slept with Zoe. Or maybe there's some secret there to be Avery that they haven't revealed to us yet. Because like we both said, there's more show. We got three more episodes left and they have in essence wrapped up most of this Manhunter story, but the drama goes on. >> Yeah, man. Uh the drama does go on. Uh I love the conflict, too. Uh they're at an impass. I want your opinion on this next scene where um Carrie is in her car and how flies down right in front of her. She empties two magazines. I see both of their sides. Uh she's like, "Hey, you know, they got satellites in the sky. They can see everything, but they can't hear everything. This whole town is under surveillance. Uh I've been playing dumb. I've been playing possum for the past um nine years or so. uh if I don't do this, she's going to kill everybody. We had peace. We can have peace again. All you got to do is leave. Well, in essence, that's true. All Howal did have to do is leave. And they could have peace. But at the same time, Hal can't because he said if we don't execute the manhunters, the uh Anton alien people are going to blow blow everybody up anyway. So, I have to be here. So, you know, whether I'm here or not, it's going to be destruction. So, they Excuse me. I'm so sorry. Good goodness gracious. I'm gassy. I'm sorry. What What What do you think about that conflict that they had in the street right there? Um I I loved it. Do you feel the same or do you feel a different way? And mind you, the acting was really good, too. Are you listening? I can't go anywhere. This is my home. I am thinking about my son. She's ruthless. I just had to get that out. Uh [laughter] what what do you think about this this conver confrontation between uh Carrie and and Hal in the street? I love this lover's quarrel. That's 100% what it was. And I feel both of them. I understand both perspectives. And I just like the tension that they set between them because you can tell that there's a budding relationship starting to happen between these two. You can tell that there's an affection between the two. And that's what this was. She didn't want to hurt him, but she also didn't want to drop her oath to Zoe. And at the same time, he didn't want to hurt her, but he he got take this manhunter back to OA. >> And so, I enjoyed the way they kind of came to an impass and kept it moving. >> Yeah, me too. Me too. Um, I also like this scene here, um, where awaken the consciousness out of his ring. It's been admitted. And you know, they they had a good they did a good job of making a comedic moment uh in in a serious time as well. Uh I didn't say that right because he's like, "Oh my god, did you draw that?" He's like, "No, it it was John." And oh, how is he doing? Don't worry about John right now. Find this person. You know that that was funny to me. What What did you think about this scene right here? >> I like how his AI bot likes John Stewart [laughter] and he really and truly doesn't. So that's just basically telling you that if your AI bot likes John Stewart, John Stewart's a legit dude. You should like him, too. And shout out to Aaron Pierre Paul. Dude, bro, you killing this role, my man. Let me tell you something. You was on everybody radar. If if people didn't know who you were before all this and some of the great work you've done, they know you now. Like DC has their Black Panther and the stories that they can tell with John Stewart. They can do this. And that's not the knockoff Mr. Wonderful, but Mr. Wonderful versus Green Lantern story. Green Lantern is going to always win that out a little bit. But I thought it was very well done. I like how they wanted you to know that um John drew the picture of Zo and the AI bot, his his lantern's AI bot likes John. And I thought that that was another telling moment for Hal, a revealing moment for Hal to just kind of be in his face that this kid is gonna replace me. And uh I loved it. >> Yeah. Yeah, man. Uh I did too. And uh well said. Well said. Um Zoe is a monster. Of course. She let uh John get burnt up just so that she can trap and be like, "Hey, you need me right now." You know what I'm saying? You can either die, I can save you, but you know, um, you know, or we can keep smashing when all of this stuff dies down. Um, I like the technology. I I felt so sorry for him all bandaged up like that. He was like, "You let me burn. You're inhuman." They, you know, they had, you know, nice pillow talk, uh, so to speak. Um, but this was crazy here. She was like, um, well, not crazy. Well, no, it was crazy. you know, I'm I'mma regrow your skin. And he was like, if I come back as white, you know, the deal is off. So, I I love that right there. Uh but also, man, they even went um a bit further with the skin tone, man. The the the so-called colorism. She was like, um what what if your skin comes back darker? It's like, man, my brothers will never let me leave it down. They feel like I had a better shot at life because of that. Now, we all know that black people are mistreated. uh and dark or black people are even treated worse and it is a bit easier in life for a lighterkinned black person. Um that was so true. I love that they included that they of course did that on purpose. This was not an accident. But I do have a question though. If they did this on purpose, they know that it is a big deal that I mean they know that John Stewart has always been depicted as a darker skinned black. So if they're going to if they acknowledge that in the episode themselves, why if you're trying to get the most viewers to your show as possible, why not just cast a darker skinned black person? I'm pretty sure there's somebody in the world that's just as great. And and again, I'm not trying to hate on Aaron Paul. He's fantastic. Other than episode 4 with his British accent slipping where he was like, "Speak up." You know, he's been great. And I I'm making it's not that big a deal, but I'm making a joke. But if they know that, don't you think it would have been in their best interest before the show drops to get more viewers to uh accommodate fans uh and get a darkerkinned black person to in the role? Or am I looking too deep into this? Well, it's there's no such thing as you're not looking too deep into it considering the way we have been sidstepped as a people for years and then we have, you know, Anglo in the MAGA fashion that want us to just drop it and just take what they give us. You know, as if we haven't had a hand in creating this l this great nation or this nation that we live in. I'm not going to say it's great right now, but >> you you're within your right to bring this up and this is a conversation we can have in front of everybody and including those that don't want to hear it because you're going to keep hearing it and it's up to you to elevate your thinking to understand why this matters. And so, you know, I thought about that when we first got Aaron Pierre Paul. He's a light he's a lighterkinned gentleman. Now, is he light bright? No. And for those that don't understand why we're having this discussion, this has always been a discussion in the black community. Because as Bevery eloquently said, the lighter you were, the more uncourse your hair were, the more you was accepted by white people. And you could be as ugly as potato salad, but just because you light-skinned, people think you cute. And thankfully the Wesley Snipes, the Michael Jordans, and those folks came along that are dark-kinned brothers that made us cool and let folks know that, hey, dark skin is just a shade. And when it comes to Aaron Pierre Paul and John Stewart, I think HBO felt like the show was going to be so good that they were going to get the viewers anyway and that people would just kind of overlook that small detail because they felt like Aaron Pierre's Paul acting is so outstanding. And I'm not overlooking it, but I am acknowledging that his acting is highly outstanding. But that was a tenant in the comics. And we're just reminding you guys that his darker skin tone was a tenant in the comics. And maybe this conversation that Zo had with him was to just kind of let us know that they knew and for us not to be upset. >> Yes. And uh I don't know if you're making a joke. Um, you saying Aaron Pierre, Paul? That's I mean I don't Why are you putting Paul at the end? I think his name is just Aaron Pierre or Aaron Stone Pierre. >> It's a joke. >> Okay. Okay. Figure. Figured. Now I uh It's funny. You know, we're talking about race cuz they brought it up in the episode. Uh somebody got mad at us in episode 4 saying, "Guys, I couldn't finish the episode. Why do y'all look at everything uh with with a racial lens? Everything is not racist." And I was like, "Bro, what are you talking about?" And they was like, well, when John went in there to buy the scope in uh in episode 4 and you know, they had that conversation, they was like, well, Lamont said that it was because of race. It was just because uh he was the partner of of uh Hal Jordan. They didn't like they didn't like that. I was like, "Okay, yeah, good point." But then again, here we are in episode five when they bringing up race on purpose again on top of episode three. So, I I I just feel that we're we're justified in talking about it. So, you know, uh you know, don't don't get mad at us, um you know, for for for doing our thing. Um just had to throw that out there. Now, how he goes into the town into Rushville. He goes into one of the uh one of the buildings here. There's bodies everywhere. And Anton and his gang empty all of their magazines and how, you know, pulled up his force field. Uh you know, they the enemy of my enemy is my friend. You know, they're trying to cut a deal. I love the conversation in between them. That was very very funny. I really do like the actor that's playing Anton. Um he he is fantastic. Uh I I don't know. He has a certain swag about him that um Paul being Victor uh been in the acting game for a very very long time. Uh but he was funny cuz um he was like, "Oh, I I I p I always picture you as a homosexual, not a homosexual, a heterosexual." And you know who was the man hunter? So that means that you, you know, you've been having uh sex with this man over here. And how was like, well, you know, when you get as much booty as I have with all these aliens u throughout the galaxy, throughout the cosmos, it's not really a preface, it's opportunity. That that was uh that was pretty funny to me idea like that. But here is my here's one of my nitpicks right here. Anton and his gang are aliens. And when we was first introduced to them in episode one or two, they said that they was going to nuke the whole town. We didn't know that they was going to be pulling out kamicazis. But if y'all are aliens, your weapon of choice is human rifles, as human assault guns. You don't you don't got no powers or nothing like that. Like how how do you go into battle when you in space across the galaxy? Like what are you using then? Your fist? What what am I missing here? >> [laughter] >> Maybe they just steal the technology of wherever they go and use their weapons. Um, and as we address Be Avery's nitpick, um, I also want to nitpick when Zo was watching Steuart burn up in the car. First of all, his ass would have been dead. >> Okay, >> you stood there too long. He There's no way he would have survived the way you was standing there. And I would have loved to seen how you got him out of the burning car, too. Okay, that's my nitpick right there about that. >> I I didn't even think about that. >> Now, now back to these galactic aliens that don't come with no weapons. They come with And and then it's like And then it's like be Avery, the bomb that they have is not even that serious. Their bomb is not blowing up the whole city. Hell, that one that one guy that jumped out of the car, did a hero's pose, and was running and never got shot and made it to the barn, his little blow up barely blew up that barn. >> Yeah. >> So, yeah, I'm with you, Avery. Where are the advanced alien technologies? You know, we've seen a lot of stuff Zo can do as a manhunter, >> and y'all can't even do half that, but yet y'all chasing down the manhunter. Like, come on, man. Help help me out here. They had more advant Zo and her crew had way more advanced tech than what they got. >> Right. Right. Right. Uh I mean they really came down there just like hey man all we got to do is blink twice and this whole you know thousand acres is is out of here. And so that that was kind of like what you know all y'all and it's like what what is the point? like if y'all just going to blow yourself up and not seize, you know, enjoy your victory, you take down Zoe, you can't even enjoy it cuz you're blowing yourself up. So, I I was a bit disappointed in that. Let me go ahead and get the other nitpick out the way. When Hal went to go see uh Sinestro, Sinestro says, "Oh my gosh, if a Manhunter is still alive, excuse me, this is the second greatest threat that you will ever face." Yet, John Stewart takes her out with a bullet in the head. Yeah. >> What? >> You mean you got you got all these sat you got all these satellites in the sky that can rain down hell and all of this and you get taken out by a bullet. You get you kill Absur and you get a lantern and you get taken out by a bullet. I I'm like, come on, man. I I I thought you would be bulletproof or something. Am I tripping? >> Absolutely not. I felt the same way. Like, how did John even know that shooting him in the head would work, >> right? >> Like, how how do you know that? Because this is a manhunter and you just going to shoot him with ordinary human technology and that's going to work. >> Yeah, >> that's number one. And then and then for Sinestro to say that these things are the second greatest threat to the galaxy, that is that is hyperbole if I ever could spell the word hyperbole. [laughter] Because if they are the second greatest threat, surely a pig with wings is the best threat because [laughter] that [ __ ] got taken out with one shot from a man with a regular standard gun. like and and it's just it's kind of like y'all playing in our face because this guy is a Green Lantern. He has a whole section of galaxy that he covers. And maybe we're supposed to assume that because he hasn't, you know, the universe is endless. So maybe we just to assume that just from what he has seen, his little corner of the galaxy, that's the second greatest threat. And I'm thinking to myself, dude, have you heard of Kryptonians? >> [laughter] >> Have Have you heard of dark side? Have you heard of the new gods? Ha. >> Have you heard of the anti-life equation? Have you heard of any of this stuff? >> The monitor. Anti- monitor. >> Yeah. And you try to tell me that a man hunter that's not even bulletproof. >> Yeah. That's uh >> second greatest threat, bro. >> Only thing that can make sense is like she's not really dead. She was playing possum again, you know, and she slipped out the back door. I I I don't know. Now she she pop up in the postredit scene or something. Then I'll be like, "Oh, y'all pulled another fast one on us. Banana in the tail pipe." But right now, I was like, "Wait a minute. This don't make no sense." You know? Um even now with all that being said, man, when she was healing John, um unless he was he had to be he had to be just being playing dumb. It's like he didn't have he wasn't remorse. No, not remorseful, but he still felt sorry for her. Like, you really do see me, John. Like, I mean, y'all think I'mma be crude, but it's just like, what are they implying that the coochie was that good? Like, you know, like he was really like, I really like you, you know? That's just weird to me. Um, kind of like how Steel Rever Sinestro I don't know, man. And am I am I looking at this the wrong way or not? I'm wondering like they haven't talked about how deep a level the manhunter's intelligence goes. His a his artificial intelligence. Is there some kind of a you know programming that can make it augment itself to whatever species it's around to be more like that species somehow some way because other than that this is a robot you know it's it's it's like me and B Avery saying we love our microphone we love it but we don't [ __ ] it like is that why he's so in love with the man this this particular manhunter it's a love thing like and I don't think he's in love with her. But that line that you just talked about, behavior, would make you feel like there was something deeper going on and it shouldn't be. This is a robot. >> Yeah. Yeah. He he he knew. He knew. Um we just getting the nitpicks out the way. Still a great episode, man. Um I mean, I really did enjoy it. uh you know but besides what we just talked about the the conflict man the the you know three four ways you know you don't know who to root for you don't know who to trust everybody lying to everybody you know the family lineage and relations is quite complex uh I want to talk about this now though the confrontation between William Min and Anton as well I I really did like that >> this guy has been the king of the castle the whole show super duper confident He get all the swag. Oh, y'all breaking into my facility. I don't give a damn. I got the Black Cloud of justice to nerf your Green Lantern powers. And while you sitting there, won't you draw me naked, man? But when he when when the crap hit the fan and he knew Anton was coming, his whole demeanor changed. He was scared. He was nervous. Unbutton his shirt, pouring alcohol, had the lasers and the gun and all of that. I like the plan he had. They he memorized like either Zoe gave him all the information to memorize, taught him the language so that he can have that conversation with Anton. I like that Anton was asking him questions like, "Yo, when did we do this? When did we do that? What was our kids' names? Oh, well, we didn't we weren't able to conceive." And I like the testing there. That that was dope. And he was like, "Do you really think that I would be so hung up on reveal?" He's like, "No, if you was going to if I was going to try to kill you, you would just blow yourself up." He was like, "Do you really think that I I am that hung on revenge that I'm just going to blow myself up kamicazi without actually confirming that I'm taking you out?" I would have been uh this would have went down a long time ago. If you say you are the person you are, threw the knife, jump, flipped them on the table, ripped as hard, and I was like, "God dog, I did not see that coming." coldblooded and woo. What was going through your mind? I I I like that scene, man. That was cold. What What did you think? >> I was like, "Bro, they going hard with this." Like, they they ain't pulling no punches, man. And I actually like Anton, man. I I I hate that, you know, things got revealed with him and we we know that we know for sure he's not atrocities at this point, but I just I just like the way he carried himself. >> Yeah. >> And I like the way when they when they was going to the ranch, did you see the way he was just like in so so much command in the front chair >> just chilling. Obviously, he's the alpha because, you know, they had the dialogue about how the manhunters only go out after the alphas and you know, deep down on the inside how Jordan probably was just like cussing them out. You trying to say that Steuart's the alpha, I'm not the alpha type situation because >> he was the alpha and you know, Zoe made sweet love to him or the man hunter made sweet love to him. So, I enjoyed the scene, man. I thought they did a great job on this and the show is just good. It's like what are they going to do with us next? >> Yeah. Well, I'm I'm We are eager to see. Uh but yeah, man. Zoe is raining down laser missiles, destroying the whole town, building by building explosions everywhere. How is flying into space, taking out satellites, coming down, making force fields, blocking this, blocking that, shooting the lasers at the car. They driving, shooting, drive by shootings, and and now everybody loaded. I'm just like this is chaos. Blood limbs is everywhere. Um I I like it, man. I even the setup of the way this camera was scaling across the sky. The thought that Zoe was like, you know, blow the uh water tower. And I was like, okay, what is that going to do? A bunch of water going to come out? Oh no, she that's a uh um um a deterrent right there, you know, uh safety to let out the black smoke. And I was like, that's smart. But how was like uh uh uh you're not going to get me a second time? You know what I'm saying? And I got these cuffs. I'mma steal the glasses so I'mma be able to see. I'mma run out the smoke, get Anton in the air, run back in. And I was like, why would you run back into the smoke? I was like, oh yeah, he thought he was going to go back and get Zoe because, you know, he cuffed her to the to the uh helicopter, but she chopped her arm off apparently. You know, then he flew the helicopter like I I it I was like, they thought this through. This is this is good. This is some good ass action, man. Um, you know, yeah, I was complaining in my trailer reactions like it seems like they holding back. I want to see more Powers and Green. And we got it here, man. Um, what did I leave out as far as that part is concerned? You know, uh, you feel the same way or you feel different? >> I enjoyed that scene, man. And, um, I enjoyed that [laughter] how got back in there, got in the helicopter, and flew back to the dag on motel. >> Yes. to finally get the sweet chin music he deserve that he's been he's been asking for. And you know, we've already kind of talked about how Zo got taken out by a bullet to the head. That's also how Hal supposedly died, too. >> So, could we be dealing with a situation with dual manhunters on our on our hands here? An illusion? What is really going on? And who was the person that put the bullet in Hal's head? If that's really Howal. >> Yeah. Um, also I'm thinking like how, bro? Why you got this lantern at the at the house in the bag, bro? You need to be having that on your hip like a keychain in your in the backpack, a satchel or something. I would not let that go at all, you know. Um, anyway, and also I love the way that, you know, yeah, John did shoot Zoe in the head, but all throughout the show, I love how Hal and John, John and Hal are always able to communicate with each other without communicating with each other. Because even though I did feel that the ass whooping was authentic and real, at the same time, John had enough sense to be like, "Okay, we know that Zoe's going to come and show her face. I'm going to go hide out over here on this billboard." There was no line of dialogue exchange between them for how to know that. And then when Zoe came, first of all, she pulled out a gun. Come on now. You a galactic terrorist and you using a handgun to kill a lantern. Where's your powers at? [laughter] You know, yet you got a you got a space laser up there and you pulling out a handgun. But then Hal was like, "Um, why did he No, Zoy was like, how why did John leave you here to die and oh, it's a decoy." Bam, she got shot. What I'm saying is I just like the way they communicated there without communicating. I thought that was uh very very fascinating. It's just that that's just um I don't know how to explain it, but just the code that they have an understanding even though they don't like each other, they respect each other to a degree, you know. Um I I just I really thought that was fascinating. Um but after that, uh it's chaos everywhere. Everything's blowing up. How? No. John goes back into town. Why? Why were all those men pointing guns at Jordan? Those was not the militia of Mon. Those were just regular civilians. And the kill order was to kill Hal. So what was their beef with John? I guess by association cuz they knew that he was the trainee or what that wasn't that clear to me. Um or I mean were they policemen out of uniform? I I doubt it. Uh what am I missing there? or or am I looking too deep? >> I think that that was just, you know, everybody was the town's people and it wasn't just Hal that they were supposed to take out. It was also, you know, Stewart, too. And so I think they they was just following orders until um what you call it got there and you know told the sheriff got there and told him to stand down. And I think that that's what that was all about. They was just there to, you know, take out whatever lantern was was there, whether it's the apprentice or the main one. >> Yeah. Okay. Um, y'all let us know what y'all think about that, too. And Lamont, I'll be damned, man. Um, John Stewart is better than me. At first, I'll be damned that I'm going to be sleeping outside in a forest eating roaches, berries, and bugs, and and trick uh tree twigs for nine months trying to take out this terrorist. and John Hal comes through and just saves the day in 10 seconds and then I get honorably discharged. But I've been training my whole life for this. My daddy and my mama shooting apples off my head. I'm having to walk home at the age of seven. He was older than that. All this for all the all this all this time. And then he finally gets the ring and turns it down. No, no, no, no, no, no. You better than me. I would have took that ring and did my own damn I would have at least flown around the world or or something, man. Had a little bit of fun, you know, had it for a day and be like, "All right, I don't want it no more." He was like, "Man, you that that that dude, he he got some integrity right there, boy. Uh he has a code." He was like, "Look, I done seen what this man what this ring has done to Hal." And he could have just had the mindset, well, that's Hal. He ain't grew up the way I grew up. I'm I'm not going to abuse this power. But he was like, "I don't even want it no more." Woo. Um, Lyanna talking about I think she deserves a slap in the face talking about is a word to describe this day as a [ __ ] storm. >> Do you think that she's really there or well she was there when John was a child when he was a baby but or do you think these are like projections or holograms or and just break down that whole scene as as well to me. I'm when you know the ending scene like you know the ending how how you feeling about all that? >> Excuse me. First and foremost I told you I don't trust her. I think she's she's going to be a villain. Um I think she's the second villain we're going to have to deal with along with Sinestro. Um she's full of crap. And I can't blame John for not wanting to get involved with that ring after what he's seen happens because you basically going to be in a line of secession that if you have your, you know, you use your own autonomy, at some point in time they're going to try to put another puppet in your place. and he does not want to be controlled like that. He wants to do the right thing without someone trying to beat bear down on his on his back. And I, like I said, I admire the man for doing that. And that's kind of one of the things that I think has really made a lot of people grow in affection for this version of John Stewart. And it's only going to get better. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, and we can't forget that uh he cut the heart out, too, and it crystallized and he gave that to um Lyanna as well. At least she did admit that they make mistakes, you know. Um I will give her that, you know. >> So um I mean she's still I mean I want to call her an [ __ ] but she's just an alien from the other side of the galaxy that has that does she's not human. She don't think the way that we think. You know, they don't have families or siblings. They they said they come into this existence alone and die and leave it alone. So uh to standard, she's a butthole. But uh you know they you know to them up is left and down is right. You know what I'm saying? And >> [laughter] >> um you know so I I it's interesting. It's it's interesting. Um >> great episode. I mean I'm loving this show. It could be better if they just didn't ground it so much, you know. Um you know, you know, Anton's an alien looking like a human. The manhunter's an alien looking like a human. The land the the guardians are aliens looking like humans. and you know and every everything else we talked about. Um great episode, man. I have no idea what's going to happen next. I cannot wait. Uh what are your final words, man? If and and what did I leave out, if anything at all? You got it all covered, man. This was a good episode. I enjoyed it. I'm just waiting to see where we go next. How are they going to do Guy Gardner? I guess we understand why we have to see Guy Gardner at this point because there's no ring bearer. And I guess that crazy Lyanna is gonna give it to Guy Gardner and then somehow someway John Stewart is gonna get it back from him. So I'm interested to see how this story plays out with three episodes to go. >> Yeah, man. Uh three episodes to go and um hopefully um they can come fast and leave slow cuz I I don't I don't want to leave this show cuz it's Wish we was getting 10 episodes. Maybe maybe we are. I don't know. They will surprise us or something. I doubt it. But guys, we just want to thank you so much for tuning in to our Lanterns episode five uh recap review titled Lights Out. Do they have a title for episode 6? Let's uh let's see. I doubt it. And they don't. But yeah, we'll just have to wait. Guys, go ahead and subscribe to both Lamont's channels. We got his political channel right here, Lamont Tyson. Also, Movie and TV Breakdowns. Uh and uh if you're watching on his channel, subscribe to my cliff's channel.
