King Richard director Ronaldo Marcus Green to ham Roberto Clemente Bopic for Tatan Ridge. Larry, have you seen King Richard? The the movie with Will Smith that came out about four or five years ago? You know, >> he's the father of the the tennis players Serena and Venus Williams. >> I I did not finish it. I tried to watch it and it looked like it was a good movie, but for some reason at the time it just wasn't resonating with me >> really. >> So yeah, >> that's interesting. I I loved it. >> Reated with me. I it was like everything when I watched it, it seemed like it was a like an extremely high quality top-notch movie. It's just for something, you know, you ever seen a movie sometime it just doesn't click for you? >> That that is the case. Um that happens to me. Well, I don't want to say often, but it has happened more than once. Um, and I will go back a second time and check it out and thoroughly enjoy myself. So, I I recommend you do, man. It was one of the better films of 2021 in my opinion. And, uh, that's exactly what brings us to our first topic right here from Deadline. It says uh, the director of King Richard uh, and who who is the director exactly, Ronaldo Marcus Green. U,, this is what the gentleman looks like right here. and uh King Richard director Ronaldo Marcus Green to ham Roberto Clemente Bopic for Tatan Ridge now or Tetan Ridge. Now, the reason why this piqued my interest, and to be honest with you guys, this article came out, uh, I want to say back in July, um, but it's news to me, I loved King Richard and I love biopics and so I was like, okay, hey, you know, if if I I've really never seen a biopic that was bad, but then when it has to deal with black people or people of color with a great director, that's going to catch my attention. So, they have the exclusive. Tatan Ridge Entertainment has set King Richard director Ronaldo Marcus Green to write, direct, and produce a film, a feature film celebrating the life and legacy of beloved Puerto Rican Hall of Fame baseball star Roberto Clemente. A previous draft of the script was written by Waqen Castellanos. The film will be produced by Ben Silverman, Jay Wisler, uh, Chira Burn, Nani, and Strike Three Films. Jen Gordon and Brandon Matinley will oversee Tedan Ridge Entertainment led by President Jillian Sher Clemente was a superstar who spent 18 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates and is one of the 33 players to have recorded 3,000 hits. A devoted philanthropist in his life was cut short unfortunately December 31st of 72 at the young age of 38 when he was killed in a plane crash that bound for Managua Nicaragua. Clemens was uh was on his way to deliver aid to victims of a recent earthquake. Man, that is just so sad. >> Yeah. >> Like why do all the good people have to pass away when they're doing good things and justice and trying to help people out? I I I just that that's really unfortunate. U we have monsters alive today that are thriving. I had two le big league tryyous with the Mets and the Reds and I didn't make either team. Green said, "Growing up black and Puerto Rican in New York, Clemente was always there, not just a great player. Proof that you that you give everything on every single play on and off the field until the day he died, trying to help people he never even met." That's the story that I want to tell. Now, it just kind of goes into the backstory of the the production company, um, etc., and who's a part of the um of the production so far? Like what what are your thoughts on this? Does this peique your interest? >> Yes. >> Do you like Biopics? Is this something that you'll check out? You know, are you willing to go to the theater to see it or catch it when it comes on streaming? >> Um, you know, it just depends on uh it depends on how much it cost. The last time I was trying to go see a movie at the theater was $49 for tickets. [laughter] >> Jesus Christ. >> At my local AMC. Yeah. I was trying to go see the Odyssey. >> Ah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> I was like, I'm not paying, you know, cuz it was I was going to take me and my my wife and my niece. I was like, I'm not paying $150 for tickets, plus God knows how much else for food and whatnot. That's just crazy. But yes, I would likely go see this. I I am very much interested in learning about uh Roberto Clemente. That dude was was a straightup G. I was only two when he passed, but you know, you grow up and you hear these stories from your parents when they love baseball or or whatever sports and they talk about it. You hear the sports commentators refer back to him and you know, so yeah, I would I would definitely go see that. and um you know that that dude who's directing man it's amazing when you when you when you hear about some of these stories and you know about productions that are in the works and then you look at some of these people's filmographies and you're like holy crap I didn't know he did that in that in that I mean this dude is >> that dude is legit I mean it's like you don't want to take someone like Roberto Clemente and put his hand put them in the hands of like some rookie director who's going to mess up his story. So someone like him who's done like you know like King Richard which pretty much was a biop and Bob Marley's story and and I think he did one other one as well and >> you know and I don't know if you guys have saw if you guys have seen uh we own the city it's sort of like a um it's sort of like the next um evolution of the wire in Baltimore. Absolutely a thousand% awesome. So so very good. He did that, too. I mean, this dude is this dude is so absolutely amazing. I I just I I mean, he's he must be one of those directors who's like quiet in his work. He's not one of those dudes that's trying to be like a big celebrity director. He's just out there pumping out great works because it seems like everything he touches is pretty amazing. >> Yeah. Uh, I did see We We On the City. I I did a couple of recaps reactions to it. I'm kind I think I'm kind of like you though with um with with Little Richard. I didn't love it. It wasn't trash or I didn't hate it, but you know, I'm not raving about it. Um, you know, but I think it's still worth a watch. Maybe I was sleepy or something like that. Uh, but a little bit more into the article. In addition to securing Clemente's exclusive rights, Tetan Ridge Entertainment has acquired rights to David Marrison's uh definitive biography, Clemente, the Passion and the Grace of Baseball's Last Hero and partner with Clemente Museum in Pittsburgh, granting the production exclusive access to the world's largest collection of Clemente memorabilia. Um, I don't know much about Roberto Clemente, but I have heard the name. Uh, you know, a light bulb did go off when I came across the headlines. So, this is definitely something that uh I will be checking out, and I can't believe I'm just now finding out about it when it came this article came out uh a few months ago. I've heard nothing but positive things about it, though. That's one of those things like about a year ago or so I rewatched the whole series. I was like I'm just going to sit down and rewatch it because I had the same feeling like is it really that good or was it just because in that moment it was you know the whole newness of sort of gritty TV was coming about and I watched it I was like no it was it was better the second time. There was stuff that I missed and I was but if you have not seen it you should go watch it. It it is it is absolutely a,000% amazing. It is. Just take the time out and watch The Wire. >> Right on.
