Video summary

Ruse, formerly known as Bad Boy R, is making a significant debut in the Kenyan music scene with his official listening party for his new single, "Get Up." During the event, he clarified that while he no longer uses his old nickname, he remains excited about this first original release. Although he admitted initially feeling conflicted about choosing it as his debut track because he felt it was just a simple song representing his younger self, he now embraces its success with good vibes and positive energy. The track blends elements of Afrobeats into an "Afrofusion" style that reflects his unique sound, marking the beginning of his journey to move from cover songs to creating original music on all major streaming platforms. The upcoming project accompanying this single is titled *Night Therapy*, a name chosen by Ruse to represent healing and freedom for those who enjoy nightlife. He explains that "night" refers to the state of mind during parties, while "therapy" signifies the good energy and dance moves provided by his music which act as emotional healing. The EP will consist of four songs without any collaborations at this stage, allowing him to showcase a variety of different vibes and energies before potentially featuring collabs in future projects. This solo approach allows him to explore both his strengths and weaknesses while proving he can carry the project independently, though he remains open to working with artists once he feels ready. Ruse's journey to this point has not been without challenges, as he faced several setbacks that delayed his transition from performing covers to releasing original material. Despite these hurdles, he emphasizes consistency as the most important lesson for aspiring musicians entering the industry today. He advises young people who are planning to venture into music to stay consistent with their craft and never give up, assuring them that if they have a genuine passion for it, success will eventually follow. His message is one of resilience and patience, encouraging fans and future artists alike to trust in their own paths even when the timing feels uncertain or difficult. Looking ahead, Ruse expressed his excitement about growing within the music community and building lasting relationships with the people who attend events like this listening party. He hopes that tonight's gathering serves as a proper introduction to the industry for him while connecting with fans who will grow alongside his career in Nairobi. With "Get Up" already available on all social platforms, he promises more releases from *Night Therapy* later this month and looks forward to seeing what the future holds for his solo project. As he stands at the beginning of a new chapter, Ruse is ready to evolve as an artist while maintaining the positive energy that defines both his music and his personal brand in Kenya.

Blending Afroofusion, Afrobe, and Afroopop. We have the one and only Bad Boy R. I I want to know, are you still using that nickname, Bad Boy R? No, I'm not. I'm not using it anymore. It's just Ruse now. >> R. >> You're making your debut into the music industry. How you feeling tonight? >> I'm feeling good. I'm feeling excited. I'm happy. Yeah. >> Uhhuh. We have this hit song already. It's a hit song, Get Up. Yeah. So, how you feeling about this new brand new song? Well, this is my first song to be honest. And to be honest, I didn't really like it like that. >> So, um, I'm happy it's out there. I'm happy, you know, people are enjoying it. And then I can't wait to move on to better, you know, to a greater heights. >> Uh-huh. Like you've mentioned, it's your debut debut song. One would want to know why this specific song as your debut song. >> Well, this was the first song I made. >> So, um, in the studio, which is good vibes, good energy, you know what I'm saying? So, um, >> and yeah, I couldn't let it go. So, apparently from the first song, I was already making hits. So, it is what it is. >> Yeah. What does it mean to you? >> Um, Get Up. >> Yeah. >> Well, >> um, >> it's just good vibes, good energy to be honest. Um, it's like probably the most afrobe song I would, um, I would make. >> You know what I'm saying? My sound is still coming from Afro beat, but it's a mixture of it's Afroofusion, so it's a mixture of, you know, different different stuff right now. >> Yeah. >> So, it's just Yeah. It's like just the younger me basically >> is what it means. Maybe we can talk a little bit about the creation and the coming up of this new song, Get Up. Maybe. How was it? How was What's that one thing that it's quite memorable about you creating this song? >> Um, well, I didn't know my sound then, the sound, whatever. >> But, um, back then, you know, the in the studio they were talking about, you know, how I had some like um like a niche, like something like different to the Afrobe sound, like my own style. M >> so I've just grown on that and it just like helped me to understand that I could do pretty much everything. >> What would you tell someone who has probably not yet listened to >> um enjoy it vibe to it and expect more? Expect some you know fresh music, better music and yeah [clears throat] >> we understand that you have you know some sort of Nigerian American background. Maybe you can tell us why you exactly decided to have this first listening party right here in Nairobi Kenya. Well, it's just it it is what it is, you know. It was meant to be actually, to be honest, Nigeria, >> then it was meant to be South Africa, >> and then we landed in Kenya. >> So, it is what it is. And um yeah, we're just taking it from where, you know, God puts us, the position we're we're starting at. >> So, yeah. >> You also have an upcoming EP, Night Therapy. Before, maybe you can talk much about this uh new EP, maybe you can tell us a little bit about how you came up with the name Night Therapy for the EP. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Well, when like what time do you party? What time do parties go on? >> At night. Exactly. >> And therapy just means like you know a sound that could you know that is healing that is good energy that is meant to appeal to who to whoever is looking for whatever would be healing to them. >> So night is the state of mind and therapy is the healing. Therapy is a good energy. Therapy is your dance. Therapy is a getaway. >> So it's a state of mind and healing. So healing your mind, healing the person and just kind of freedom and expression for those who want to vibe, who want to dance and who enjoy night life. >> Yeah, >> basically. >> Maybe you can tell us a little bit about the EP. How many songs are we expecting from the EP? Is get up part of the EP? Can tell us uh much in details. >> Get Up is part of the EP, but um disclaimer, >> the songs are very different. So Get Up is the most afrobe and the other ones are kind of, you know, different sounds. So expect like just kind of a mixture of different vibes, different energies and you know >> and you know it's beautiful that you're having you know your debut song as a single while you have most artists you know making uh debuts with collabs. Why exactly did you decide you know I'm going to go all alone in this amazing project? >> Well >> um I think I can do it all. So, so, so till I prove myself wrong wrong or people prove me wrong, I think I would just go solo for now. >> But I'm definitely interested and open to collab collaborations, but I'm just kind of trying to find, you know, and just see my strengths right now and my weaknesses basically. >> Since [clears throat] here in Kenya, I don't know whether you have tried to reach out to one, two Kenyan artists for a collab or something like that. >> Well, where are they? Where are you if I can find? Yeah, >> you're ready. >> Why not? >> Uhhuh. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Now, maybe talking about the EP, how many songs should we expect? Are there collabos? >> Um, well, there are four songs. There no collabs. >> Yeah. All singles. >> Yeah, all singles. But in in the next project, be expecting maybe one or two. >> Yeah. So, how long did you take maybe probably to uh prepare this EP? Um it didn't take too long to be honest, >> but um I do intend to release music frequently. So >> um but it didn't take too long to prepare to be honest. >> So tonight we are going to get uh the release of Get Up and you have mentioned that the EP has around four songs. So maybe uh since I know through your Instagram account a lot of people have gotten a taste or a snippet of uh Get Up, when should we expect more from the EP? Um, I can't answer that question to be honest, but this month for sure. >> Uh-huh. So, this month? >> Yeah, this month. >> I promise. [laughter] >> Yeah. >> This month? >> Yeah. This month. >> Most likely. >> Uh-huh. Now, before you know, I've gone through your Instagram and I've uh come to learn that uh even before you are doing cover songs, >> someone will want to know because you definitely were doing these cover songs very well. Why did he take you you know I don't want to use the term long but that period of time to do you know get into music as ruse yeah >> well [gasps and sighs] there were a lot of setbacks >> behind that [laughter] >> u maybe going forward I would um I would talk about that but you know go timing is perfect so going so >> it is what it is but we're here now we're ready and um yeah I'm excited I'm looking forward to creating more projects and to growing in the industry and >> you know and everything that comes with it >> is there a level that you really wanted to get before, you know, going all solo and not doing covers anymore. >> Um, well, if the audience wants covers or if I wake up one day, I'm in the mood, why not? >> You know what I'm saying? But, um, I think, you know, I think I prefer my own music. Obviously, the music that I make >> personally. So, either or, who knows? >> Mhm. You've gotten that side of you doing covers. Now, we have you doing your own music. Maybe there will be a young person out there looking uh at your videos on Instagram and on all other social platforms. Maybe what would you tell them? Especially someone who's uh planning to venture into music >> now. Wow. >> I mean like I'm just starting man. So what I'm saying is just that be consistent. At the end of the day consistency is key in everything. Um, if you know you have the skills, if you know you, this is something that you see yourself doing um, longterm, >> just be consistent and eventually if you know [clears throat] you find what you're looking for and if it's for you, you will definitely find what you're looking for. >> Um, consistency is key to be honest and just don't give up. >> Uhhuh. Bruce, what would you consider a successful debut since you're having the release party tonight? >> Um, something that surpasses your original um, expectations. >> You know what I'm saying? Like if you have realistic expectations, >> you know what I'm saying? Have like a like a realistic logical, >> you know, like amount of listens or amount of people or crowd and if it supersedes that or if it meets that, just know that you're on the right track >> and the signs will be there obviously. >> Maybe it might be the song that you like the least. It might be, you know, things that are that will happen that will that will be evident that oh, this is for you or you're on the right track. >> Uhhuh. >> We have quite a number of people who have actually shooked up for you tonight. >> Oh, wow. Maybe what are you expecting with this release party that we having? >> Um just good vibes, introduction to the industry. >> Um people who are going to show up. I'm definitely going to appreciate them and just seeing you know good faces, beautiful people tonight. >> Yeah. >> And um you know people I guess the beginning of um community um people who are going to be part of the community >> that are going to grow um grow with you and you're going to see in future too. So, I'm excited to see what the future holds basically of this event. >> Now, with this release party, that means the song will be out on all social platforms by tomorrow, I believe. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Where can they stream this uh debut song? >> All platforms. It should be on all platforms right now. >> Uh-huh. How about your social platforms? Where do they get you? >> Um, Ruse official Ruse. >> Yeah. >> R H U Z. >> Uh-huh. >> Yeah. [clears throat] >> All right. Thank you so much for your time. All the best and congratulations. >> Yeah.
