Video summary
The video captures the thrilling opening day of the K-Check Season 4 semifinals, featuring four contestants: Jelly, a UP geography student and fan of the HighQ franchise; Andre, a multimedia studies student who enjoys Britney Spears; Chris, a mechanical engineering enthusiast; and Gerald, a theater arts director serving as the wild card. The competition is overseen by a distinguished panel of experts, including Assistant Professor Sophia Gillmo, retired quiz master Ramon Lorenzo, and Professor Emerita Josephina Natividad Mulasa. The event kicks off with a high-stakes trivia round where correct answers yield 10 points, setting the stage for an intense battle of knowledge among the participants as they aim to secure their spot in the grand finals later that week.
The first round saw Gerald take an early lead with 40 points, followed by Jelly, Andre, and Chris who each scored 20 points, while some contestants struggled with tricky questions ranging from military time conversions to identifying ancient Egyptian pharaohs and K-pop collaborations. In the subsequent second round, the scoring stakes increased significantly with correct answers worth 20 points but a penalty of 10 points for incorrect responses, leading to a dramatic shift in standings where Jelly's mistakes resulted in a negative score. Despite the pressure, the contestants displayed resilience, with Chris eventually overtaking Gerald to take the lead after a series of challenging questions on topics like geometry, biology, and Philippine history.
The ultimate round pushed the competitors to their limits with multiple-choice questions covering diverse subjects such as literature, mathematics, astronomy, and sociology, where correct answers were worth 30 points but wrong answers incurred a steep 15-point deduction. Chris emerged victorious in this final segment, answering correctly on topics like the definition of an ellipse, the top senatorial candidate of 2022, and the concept of social roles, ultimately securing a total score of 100 points. This impressive performance earned him the title of the first grand finalist for K-Check Season 4, while Gerald's strong showing as the wild card kept the competition close until the very end, setting up an exciting showdown for the next episode.
