Journal Page Ideas #1 | Build a Journal With Me + 2 Layered Pocket Ideas

[music] Hello and welcome everyone. My name is Eva and I am designer behind Bohemian Crafting. Welcome to today's project. I'm creating junk journals for more than 10 years now and longer. I'm creating my junk journals less I do remember. The last night I bring back one journal from my later shed. If you didn't see that video about sharing what I had to build up in my garden because I do have so many unfinished journals, go to have a look in my previous video, you will see my little garden shed of later. So journals like this which I have created uh or started to create with my patreons few years ago never finished even just creating this uh journal cover was really so much work and I love that process and I am so proud of my uh journal cover which I have created at that time. Look at this. It's unfinished but that Juno cover it's so [snorts] beautiful and it's from old cardboard box and it was just so pleasure to create it. Even pages here they are so much fun. They do have openings and all kind of stuff and all kind of you know flip outs and I do believe there is also yeah this twisting to open that. So I did enjoy so much to create this but then yet I stopped because some another idea came and uh when I bring this journal back from my later shed uh I realized that um I don't know where to start. So today I'm going to start to create my referring book I guess. So that's what I'm going to create today and I'm going to start to create some spreads. uh journal spread, journal page spreads on my journal in my journal just to help me to remember what I have created in the past, what I can create in my journals. With book like this, it will be easy to have some navigation, some first sparkle and then that creativity will be much much easier. I will create my book in these colors, white and brown. nothing uh fancy here but then always I will try to bring some journal where I will actually have that idea from and show you how it can looks when it's decorated with the designed papers or book pages or something like that. So because uh not far not long ago not far ago not long ago I have created one amazing book which I still love these this amazing binding where there you have folded piece of paper and you can remove this and you can remove your page. I do love this binding so much and I had enjoyed to create fusion with this binding. So that's what I'm going to create. Oh, what I'm going to use the binding like this. Uh if I'm not mistaken, uh many people have wrote down that it's Australian binding if I'm not mistaken. You know, long older I am uh the less I do remember actually. That's kind of sad, isn't it? So I think it's Australian binding. Correct me if I'm wrong. Feel free to write the uh right number. Right number, but I'm kidding. Feel free to write down in comments the right name of that binding because I can be mistaken. I'm going to be using that not with two strips. This time I'm going to use just one strip as I saw in many videos. And for that binding, I'm going to be using these file folders. And for my pages, I'm going to be using this. My friend bring me bunch of these large envelopes because they had it in their work. And uh look, they are all glued. They are brand new, but they were sitting in the shelves and they got somehow glued. [laughter] I was laughing so much that look at that. They are ready to be sent without anything. So, she bring me bunch of these large envelopes and I think that's amazing because now I can use them. So, for my pages, I'm going to be using these awesome envelopes where I will fold these envelopes on half. That will be my page like this. Here I will do hole for my folders for that binding open. Always that envelope will be folded on half. We do have 16 envelopes folded on half. Uh I'm going to create taps. So then where I will have some spread uh I can write on that tab what kind of pockets openings something I do have on that page and then I can see it on these sides. So for these tabs uh I'm going to get up my envelope paper punch. This one from um we are memory keepers. Wonderful stuff. Mine is very old. You can see that it's a little bit destroyed. I lost that ruber from here. But I love that port. Really very very good tool for uh those who love to create tabs. It's easy to manage and it's wonderful. So I'm going to create always, you know, top, middle, not always, I'm going to create three types of tops. Top, middle, and bottom. That will be just enough I believe. I'm going to start with uh top top and my taps will have 3 and 1/2 in I think 3 and 1/2 in. So that will be first one. Second one has to have that medium tab. So I'm going to first take another envelope, create bottom top, and I'm going to have a look which way I should cut these middle taps. So I do have top one, middle one. I'm going to grab a pencil. [snorts] and ruler. And as I said, my tops are three and half punched. Three and half. So that's what I'm going to try to somehow placed here between this one and between this one or around that to spread it nicely. I believe this way. And here. This is that second page from my envelope. So on that I'm going to make mark. Yeah, I think this way. So one here and one here. I do have marks here and here. That will help me to decide how far I should cut. So it's two and half here and it should be two and half from other side as well. Then I guess I will make it e even like this. So then when my pages will go together I will of course cut this one and cut off this one and cut off this one. Oh crap. Oh, come on. this one. So then those stops will be more visible. But I think this way it will be okay. So three and a half. And here that middle one will be two and 1/2 in from the edges. And this will be my middle top for cutting off that rest of the page. [snorts] like here with this top one. This bottom I need cut off. I'm going to be using my guillotine because it's easy and fast like this. And this rest [snorts] I will cut with my knife or I can use scissors. I can use actually even this ruler because it's not too thick. So I can slide it in and with the style of letter opener I can just slide it off or I can use my knife. Same way I don't mind that the edges will be slightly distressed. I do like vintage so I don't mind that. this way. I'm going to create tops on all of my envelopes. So, here I'm going to cut the top. Flip it over. Cut off that other side. And again cut the top so I can actually get into that envelope. Oh, come on. So I can get into that pocket. So I do have my first two tabs done and I'm going to continue exactly same way. So here I do have bottom one. On the next page I have to have top one. and three and a half. and cutting the rest of the page. Yep. And here. And again, I'm going to use my ruler and open these tops. And I will have next page with tops which are continue here top middle bottom top next envelope will be first middle top then bottom top and then I will start all over again. I also used my uh corner punch to round these corners because it's that's what I like to do. So I'm going to continue with those envelopes. Now, as I said, I have to have middle top. I don't have to have it that way, but I like to have it that way like this. So, it's continuing with these tabs in nice order for me. So, I'm going to continue same way with all of my envelopes. I do have all envelopes uh cuted uh also ripped those stuck apart. [laughter] And because I do love vintage and I just couldn't I don't know, I just couldn't work with totally white ones, I decided to color it a little bit. So it's uh baked in my oven. The this these colors uh it depends how long time you will leave it in your oven. Uh it will get darker and darker. Just be careful if you will do it over your paper can get break down easily or you can start a fire in your oven. So always do these things with caution. Just think forward. what can happen. Be careful. You can always tea dye them, coffee dye them, or use distress ink. So, these are my envelopes, my pages. And as I said, I'm going to be using these file folders as my binding system. I think the half of it will be just exactly. Yes. Yes, I do have this which will be on the sides. if I will if I will use that file folder. So, I'm going to just cut it on half. So, I do have two halves of my file folder. Now to make it easy, my binding system or binding folds will be these. I'm going to fold that shorter side. As I forgot to show you, my file folder, this one has always one side shorter. So when I did cut it on those two pieces, one side is still shorter. So that side I just folded to that middle fold. Now I'm going to take this as my guide. I'm going to fold this second one exactly same. You can always take your scoring board and score these tops. [snorts] Can I have a look how much it is these folds? I think four 4 and 1/2 4 and 1/2 ines is one kind of like score line. 4 and 1/2 9 this will be uh 13 and 12 and here with this one I do have a little bit half inch actually half inch I do have for gluing next strip to this one because I will need many of these valleys um mountains. So my folding is this way. Now I need many of these to have always one uh fold for one of my envelopes. So I do have prepared everything I need here. I do have 15 envelopes. Always three envelopes makes that top, middle, bottom, top, middle, bottom. So, always three envelopes are kind of closing the circle. And I do have, as I said, I do have 15 envelopes here. And here I do have I don't know how many pieces. I probably will have to count, isn't it? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Uh, eight pieces which I have cuted from four uh folders. I will start with this one. I will take this as a page which will be glued to back cover. Here I do have a fold. Here I do have a fold. And that last half inch fold. Then I'm going to grab next piece exactly same way. So one straight sheet here. Fold. Straight sheet. And that last fold. And I'm going to place this one right there. And fold it over and glue it here. right there. Making sure that I will slide this one to that fold here. Watching top and bottom sides that they are matching. Then I will f fold this one down. I'm going to grab next one and again with same folding here. One page fold last page with that short fold. This one I'm going to slide right here. Make a nice position. Watch this and this side that they are matching here till the fold. Apply the glue on that last little fold here and fold it down. And I'm going to continue same way till the end of my prepared folder binding pieces. So all my pieces are glued into one long zigzag binding. Now I'm going to grab this one. Well, I guess first I will club these together just to hold them to make a mark. Hopefully this will be good enough. Yeah, big enough. Okay. Do I have it? I don't. So now I do have it clap together nicely. I do have matching bottoms of my envelopes and top. Now I can take my binding and kind of place it [snorts] where I think it will be the best. Yeah, I think this way. Looks like I do have on both sides quite similar parts. [snorts] So, I made a mark marks on both sides here and here. And I'm going to take my tool and the same like before in that green uh journal, I'm going to be using this kind of like slot uh slot paper punch to punch those holes for my binding. So, I do have marks on each envelope. And I'm going to grab this And from each mark which I can see here I'm going to cut short slot till that last mark. I can also take ruler. Maybe I will take ruler here because it will be faster here. It's quite long piece. So I'm thinking this time I'm not going to get up my tool which I really like but I will take ruler and knife and cut that entry. I'm going to make knot here, notch here, and then cut. Slot [snorts] that in. Like this. And I'm going to do it with every single one of my envelopes. Uh I have prepared these packaging that packaging tape this one. And uh I inked it with brownie alcohol ink. And then I use these strips to reinforce folds of my envelopes. It does look awesome. So I do have these folds uh reinforced with that tape. I also cuted again that uh entry and I folded that tape over one side of my envelope and uh it is [snorts] not only functional but also like decoration. Even this will be uh practicing journal and it will be without decorative papers it still can look interesting and I do believe with this it will looks interesting. So now I will start to place it together. I already tried before and I think it will looks amazing. So with those folds, this one will hold. Sorry for that noise guys. Our neighbors are repairing roof. So there will be a little bit of noise. Sorry for that. So this one and this one are for covers. And those folds between they are for my pages. I'm going to flip it this way. And I'm going to start from last one and slide it over. [snorts] And I do have all of my envelopes put together with that binding system as a stopper or yeah kind of like stopper. Uh I'm using just cards of papers which are folded and they are slightly longer than this inner piece. So I have slide all of these through my binding system. So, because this is longer, it's stopping that envelope get out for my binding system. That's how I put together the journal um journal block. And I already designed it also created also cover here. As you can see that last uh fold I have sandwiched between two of the old card craft envelope pieces. Same I did on the front for cover of my book. I decided to use this layout. I have made this kind of opening and I do believe in the process of creating those pockets and openings flip flop flops in this journal we will get to something like this. So here I do have pocket I have used old book pages from book of knowledge. This is also picture from that book and I do love all this look. Uh, I do have here um pre-made kind of like picture frames or paper pockets for photos. They have been made in the past somehow like this and I really love the look of that. Here I do have just a large acetate uh window pocket for some notes. And here I made magnetic closure. This is just cover. And I'm going to call my book Einstein because it should have some ideas, some creativity, some measurement. Probably I will see what will be inside. But definitely this will be like my testing book and something what should be clever for me, what should help me. That's why my little Einstein Einstein. So for the first page uh I'm going to go back in the time the time where I discovered uh Katy Orta channel and her amazing love books and wi with all those pockets and openings and accordion style of pages [snorts] where there was hundreds of pockets tucks and little tuck spots. That was where I first tried all these labub book uh style journals and from that time I'm going to take few pockets which I would like to share with you today. For my first base pocket I'm going to be using this is my uh letter from my hospital appointment which I had yesterday. I'm still waiting for results. So please wish me well. I do hope everything will be okay. Uh, I'm going to be using that letter to create my first pocket. And because this book will be for me, I'm to totally okay with that. Uh, I'm just going to fold it in the sides which will fit here. And that fold I will glue down. It will reinforce the edge of my pocket. So, I'm thinking my first pocket should be deep enough to hold my another pockets. And those another pockets I'm going to create by using these beautiful envelopes. These are coin envelopes I believe. And I think I can fit two here. Oh yes. So my bottom pocket should be slightly bigger. I think this way. I'm going to glue this one down. So, you have reinforced this side of my paper. Now, I'm going to measure how big piece I will need for here. And I think I can cut it right there. or just rip it apart. You know, we are creating junk journal from things we can find around. So, I don't have to be precise. This will be okay. So, I'm going to place it here. And these pockets, these envelopes, coin envelopes. I think I'm going to glue this one inside just to reinforce the entry to make it stronger. So the flap I'm going to glue inside and I can glue these pockets here but because that will be kind of like too much straight and without any um visual you know some interest of course here I'm going to add some distress ink to the edges and because I do have these lovely tops all over uh I'm going going to create small little kind of like entry to this pocket somewhere. So if I will have these here, well I can give them also some little entry. And to make these pockets exactly same, I'm going to use exactly same cutting. I'm going to use my scissors and create just a simple cut like this. Yeah, I think this will be much much better than just straight uh pocket. Uh I'm going to also cut the corners of my envelopes because this straight corner that's actually nothing what I would like to have in my book. I want to have my book inspiring for me. So I need to make it way where it will be inspiring for me. And that's these shapes. Not straight corners, but kind of like lovely curved corners. I'm going to do same here. I'm going to cut the corners, create some entry. here and here. So, I'm thinking the top is there. I'm going to create entry here on the bottom. Just some small one. like this. Now I can distress it and I can glue my pockets where I wanted to have them. One here I have added glue on these three sides. And you can always choose if you want to create one more pocket from these. So I do have entry to that envelope from this side. But I can choose I can choose if I want to use this and have another pocket. I can put glue just here, here and here and then have pocket from the top. But this entry I need to glue really properly. So then this pocket will be easily to get in and out as well. So here we have one and second one I have added uh some inserts into my pockets. So here you can see that I do have pocket here one large one then here here and I do have also pocket here and here. very easy way with three pieces which I glued one on another one and another one and I do have so many pockets. I also added you know little notes here uh layered pockets full size actually pockets and here that I can use acetate and that's what I would like to show you. If you will have pocket here and then will have pocket here and here with acetates, it will makes your page even more beautiful and interesting. So always think about uh materials you can use uh how you can change them. And you don't have to do just one layer of the acetate here. You can make first layer of acetate on this pocket and then here put acetate through to both sides of your envelope. So you will see through to this envelope and through to this layer. And here in my unfinished journal I do have something slightly similar also two pockets but here I have stamped on these acetates. I have used uh uh stays on I do believe ink for stamping on acetate. And I do love these pockets very much because they do have also texture. So that's these. I know I didn't used envelopes here, but the window, it's what I'm talking uh about on these pockets. So you can decorate the window few different ways. So that's about those windows you can create in these pockets. And before I will move to another pocket which I will pick from this awesome book dos a dos book I have created about 3 years ago I guess uh I'm going to show you this one every Tuesday now um well I had a little little gap between sharings but uh every t Tuesday now I will share some sheet which will be free for anyone with some ideas which are related to Jung journal making. Uh there will be my point of view, my ideas which I used already. Uh something I learned from YouTube, from all kind of um websites and from Instagram, you know, which I learned through the all those years. And I do hope you will enjoy these uh sheets and these ideas and the that sharing with that and uh writing with that because I try to do it with a little bit of humor. We all know that this paper craft is amazing relaxing thing and I do believe it should be uh it should be shared that way. So I do have already few other prepared which I will share in every single week and I really do hope you will like them. And now uh some other pocket. I'm going to dig into this into this book. Uh to be honest uh to see it after those months when I didn't even touch it, it's quite inspiring. I do love what I do see here. So I'm thinking very next pocket we can do hidden pocket. And that hidden pocket, as I said, will be inspired by this book. And my hidden pocket, it's bright key where I do store some sheets, some epimements, something really nice. Your hidden pocket doesn't have to be visible straight away, but shouldn't be visible straight away because that's why it's hidden. You can have some another pocket right there and maybe some leaflets on the top. So that what we will create. >> [snorts] >> on the very next page. And for creating some hidden pocket, I'm going to use my old grocery list week. I think this is was for my keto keto diet which I printed out long time ago. So, [snorts] I'm going to use that and I'm going to create my hidden pockets with that. I think I'm going to yeah, just use this one. Uh because I want to have the paper nice and strong. I'm just going to glue this together to make it stronger. Just like that. I do have my piece that I reinforced. Now I'm going to cut it in the size which will fit here into this page. So I'm going to cut it here. I can also fold it on both sides and make their like folds. Because this will be that hidden pocket I can totally make it just exactly what will be on the page. This is actually exactly. Look at me. [laughter] So I do have exact what it's supposed to be on that page. I'm going to create a little slot here on the edge. But before I was uh cut the slot, I'm going to reinforce that paper from the bottom. So it will be invisible. This will be bottom of that page. And this edge I would like to cut. So here I'm going to reinforce it with this tape. And now I can cut the slot here through to that tape. So as you saw I have cuted that slot here in the edge. I also added double-sided tape all around the edges. This side was actually the double-sided tape was my navigator how far from the edge I should cut. So my slot it's right next to that uh double-sided page uh double-sided tape. So now I can use also this and place it right here. Create with that illusion that there is just that pocket. And if I will glue this paper on that bottom paper, they do have quite similar color. So, if I will glue it right there, the pocket will be less visible. I'm going to place it right here. And this pocket, this envelope I can place right here. And make it even more interesting. I'm going to cut that window which I was talking about it those pages before. I'm going to cut it here. So first I can seal that envelope like that. Now I can cut window through to both layers of that envelope. So mine will be like a pocket. Now I'm going to cut window through both layers. I do have my window cuted and I do have piece of acetate which is folded and it is slightly smaller than it's my frame here. I will need to push it inside. And now I can use double-sided tape and slide it inside if I want. So just here on the top on both sides and it doesn't have to be even fully glued mostly just in the middle here and it will hold nicely here and then on that other side as well. and I do have an entry to that pocket. And again, if I want to use this as a double pocket, which is kind of like very visible, I will place this one either here or here on the sides. And then at that rest I will have like next pocket. So I'm thinking I'm going to place it actually here on this side. I'm going to be using double-sided tape right now. And I'm going to place my double-sided tape along the entry into that pocket here. And then just on the bottom. So here and here. It will be enough. And I'm going to glue it right next to entry into that hidden pocket. I just need to be careful. Do not glue it over the entry. Right there. And that way I do have pocket behind. And I do have pocket inside. And another pocket I do have here. And just one more time to see how beautiful it can looks. You can always place there also some flap. And here I do have it from other side. You can make those pockets decorative as a picture. So this is side hidden pocket and that is my sharing for today. Uh I do have full journal with expandable spine. I do have first spread and I do have hidden pocket here. I'm going to continue to find some interesting ideas for page uh and I will always try to show you already made in the journals. Hopefully, this will help to those who are starting to create their own journals and maybe even those who are looking for some inspiration.
