Jose Caballero on hitting a HR on his 30th birthday, dropping 16 runs on the Red Sox
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
Jose Caballero celebrated his thirtieth birthday in style by hitting a home run, capping off a dominant performance where his team dropped sixteen runs on the Boston Red Sox. The atmosphere was electric as teammates and fans alike rejoiced in this special moment, particularly for fellow player Ramos who had just hit his first home run as a Yankee during a critical series against a division rival. Caballero expressed that seeing a teammate finally achieve such a milestone after being teased about it was incredibly rewarding, highlighting the strong camaraderie within the clubhouse where players support each other's individual achievements on the biggest stages.
The significance of this victory extends beyond just the immediate game score, as it represents a crucial advantage in the tight race for the division title or wild card spot. Caballero emphasized that winning against the Red Sox is especially important given how closely the teams are matched in the standings and the potential need for a tie-breaker to determine who advances. Having secured a win over such a fierce rival like Boston, regardless of whether it is early season or late August, feels particularly satisfying because it removes the anxiety of losing a divisional matchup that could ultimately decide the fate of the entire season.
Reflecting on last year's experience where his team lost the division due to a tie-breaker, Caballero noted how relieving and positive it feels to be on the right side of such a critical situation this time around. He explained that while every game in August carries weight, rivalries with teams from the same division always elevate the stakes regardless of the calendar date. This sentiment was reinforced by the strong performance of his bullpen, specifically Will, who stepped up effectively when needed, proving that the team is well-prepared and capable of maintaining their momentum through high-pressure situations.

Jose just decided to cap off a couple of
hits with a birthday home run tonight.
>> Yeah, I feel great to be honest.
>> Just what do you think of this offense
last night and now again today?
>> I think that's what we are capable of
and we all know this in here and
it's showing up
and it's showing all at the right time.
>> It looked like the team was really happy
for Ramos when he was able to hit that
home run in a big moment there. Just can
you describe what
what it's like to see a guy hit his
first Yankee home run in a big spot?
>> Yeah, it's
it's really good to see him.
Leave the yard.
We've been messing with him a lot since
he got here that he hasn't had his first
Yankee homer and he did today in a big
series and a big moment and um
we're really happy for him.
>> What have you been saying to him? Have
you been messing with him?
>> Uh you know, just like I say, you had a
you haven't get the the the first homer
as a Yankee and it's a
it was a it was a team for us to mess
around with him.
>> What
does winning this series and the season
series over the Red Sox mean?
>> It means a lot. It means a lot
especially the how close they are in the
standing.
We know that it could be down to
a tie breaker
at the end for the division or for the
wild card. So it's huge to to have the
the advantage on those.
>> Given that you you see that, I mean did
the game feel going into it like this is
a big game?
>> Yeah,
it gets like that
when when it hits August it almost gets
like that every day. Uh but especially
whenever you you play the uh the guys in
your same division and and
the rivalry obviously now against Boston
that is always like that. It don't
matter if it's April or September.
>> Last season you guys were on the the
wrong end of a tie breaker. Does it feel
good relieving to be on the right end of
a tie breaker?
>> Uh like I said, I feel like it is good
to to have the tie breaker because um we
saw
we saw it last year how how we lose the
the division for a tie breaker. So, it's
really good to to have the tie breaker
against a
uh division rival and um
a a team that is really close in the
stand.
>> What do you think of the way Will
stepped up today with the short pen?
>> It's great. Great knowing that
uh
our bullpen was um
it was loaded for the past couple games
and um it's great to
to see him perform the way that he did.
