Video summary
Jose Caballero addressed the team's disappointing performance following two strong victories against the Red Sox, attributing the recent loss to specific mistakes rather than external factors. While acknowledging that the errors were clear and needed correction, he emphasized the importance of cleaning up these issues to return to playing better baseball. The conversation also touched on a particular play involving a pickoff attempt, where Caballero admitted upon reviewing the video that he may have taken his eyes off the ball, though he downplayed the incident as not being a major issue compared to other potential causes for the loss.
The discussion then shifted to whether the tight schedule and back-to-back travel played a role in the team's struggles, with Caballero firmly rejecting the idea of making excuses for themselves. He maintained that the team does not use fatigue or scheduling difficulties as reasons for poor performance, insisting instead on taking full responsibility for their output on the field. This mindset reflects a culture of accountability where players focus on controlling what they can rather than blaming circumstances beyond their control.
A significant portion of the analysis focused on the Angels' offense, which remained quiet throughout the game due to the opposing pitcher's aggressive strategy. Caballero explained that the pitcher was attacking the strike zone effectively, getting ahead in counts and utilizing a repertoire that included high-velocity throws over 99 mph mixed with sharp breaking balls. He noted that when a pitcher dominates the zone like this, it becomes extremely difficult for batters to gain control of the at-bat, which ultimately stifled the Angels' ability to generate offense and change the momentum of the game.
In conclusion, Caballero suggested that while the opposing pitcher's dominance was a key factor, the team needs to find ways to get ahead in counts to regain control of the plate discipline. He expressed hope that if they can adjust their approach to handle such aggressive pitching, the results might look different in future matchups. The overall message was one of resilience and a commitment to improving execution by learning from mistakes and adapting strategies against high-level competition.

Jose, after two really solid games to
close out that that Red Sox series as a
as a team, what do you attribute the
letdown to tonight?
>> Uh tough tough loss today.
Uh
couple mistakes there.
Uh we made clearly made and um
we just need to clean that up and um
play better baseball.
>> What did you see on that pickoff? Is
that a ball you felt like you you had or
what happened on that one?
>> Uh
I really don't know. Um
I went back to look at the video and it
kind of seems like I took the eyes off
the ball, but
nothing major.
>> Is it Is there maybe a question of focus
or the schedule because it was so tight
compared to yesterday's game?
>> Sorry, say it What is the question
again?
>> Does the schedule make it tight that
you're playing yesterday and you have to
come out and play today and travel so
far?
>> Uh we don't make excuses for ourselves.
>> Offense quiet obviously tonight. What
was he doing that made him so tough that
kind of kept you guys quiet throughout
the course of the game?
>> Well, he was attacking the zone. Um
he was getting uh ahead in the count and
um
I mean, he
when he he's in the zone, he's tough to
hit. Um
guy throwing
99 plus
um with good breaking balls. Um
um
like I said, I feel like and
maybe if he's around the zone and
we could get ahead in the in the count
and we can have the control of the bat,
maybe it's a different story, but he was
attacking. He was dealing tonight and um
you could see the results.
