You know, all it takes is just one word
to flip an entire narrative. So, this
[snorts] is the 12th century translation
of the Kama Sutra and it begins with a
fantastic story where a king is sitting
in his court surrounded by his ministers
when a woman rushes in stark naked and
as the horrified ministers run forward
to try and cover her up, she stops them
and she says, "No, every man that I have
ever been with till now, I have made
sure that he's fully satisfied, fully
pleasured, but no man has ever done that
for me till date and till somebody does,
I've decided I will not get dressed."
Now, there's complete panic in the court
because the ministers are thinking,
"Suppose this becomes a fashion. Suppose
all our wives take to the streets naked
because they haven't been fully
pleasured, what are we going to do?" And
the king realizes that truly his kingdom
is in jeopardy at this point because
nobody is worried about the welfare of
the kingdom. They're all just thinking
about what's going on in their bedroom.
And so, he puts out a call for any man
who thinks that he can fully pleasure a
woman. Finally, one man comes forward,
Kok Up, hence Kok Shastra.
He leads the woman away and sure enough,
two weeks later, she returns fully
dressed and the king says, "Write me a
book on this so that every man has this
knowledge and the kingdom will never be
in jeopardy over something like this
ever again." Good story, right? Right.
Now, this is the 16th century
translation of the Kok Shastra and in
this, just the one word changes. So,
from pleasuring her, from fully
satisfying her, it now becomes about
taming her because well, a woman asking
for pleasure, we know what kind of woman
that is and how she deserves to be
treated. And so, from technique after
technique around pleasure, this is
chapter after chapter about how he
degrades her, humiliates her, violates
her. To the point that when the king
says to him, "Write me that book," he
decides that he's going to demonstrate
instead. And so, he lifts up her sari in
front of everybody to show them what
he's going to do. And when she tries to
stop him, he declares that for this
defiance, she will be punished because
obviously if she's still defying him,
she hasn't been tamed properly. And so,
he has two men tie her onto this um,
that looks a little bit like a rocking
horse and which has a pole sticking out
of it. And when she tries to struggle
against being put on this
The more she struggles, the harder it
jams into her. And then he asks all the
other men, the ministers who are
standing around, to come forward and do
stuff to her. And I'm not going to tell
you what all is done to her because
actually just reading this chapter made
me physically sick. Actually, the whole
book made me physically sick. But it
goes on to say that as the men watch
what's being done to her, they're so
aroused that they find themselves
jerking off to it. But this is still not
the end of it because as he says, "Now,
there must be a final grand show." And
so he now hands the king a three-pronged
whip, which when used properly, would
simultaneously hit her bottom, flick
inside the
and flick inside the vagina. We are told
that the king used this with so much
might and for so long that finally the
woman fainted. And the king, who by now
was so aroused, penetrated her
unconscious body and rode her like a
horse until he had galloped into his
final ride of pleasure. And all this
from changing just the one word, from
pleasuring her, from satisfying her
fully, to taming her. An average male
gaze can
fantasy, but couched as the pleasures of
a woman.
