Let me show you how I built this little
pink camper van in India.
After buying a beat-up van from an
irresponsible kid who still owes me
5,000 rupees, it's basically four easy
steps.
When we came here the first time, the
taxi the taxi driver was regretting
coming here because it's so traffic-y.
Actually today it's not even that bad,
but people it's just it's just nuts.
They go on the wrong side of the road
like I just did.
Cross your fingers we pass.
This is basically a smog test that we're
doing right now.
All right. So guys, we failed the test,
so we're going to have to get it
serviced.
Uh yeah, but we do have a one-day pass,
so we can drive and not get a 10,000
rupee $125 fine. So next step we're
going to try and fix the AC. All right,
guys. This is the piece we are
replacing. It is
bad, broken, damaged.
Um and our mechanic,
he told me that he had cancer, a brain
tumor. Brain tumor 30 years ago
and fixed it with Ayurveda natural
medicine from India.
It was
late stage and they said 4 months to
live. And look at him, 30 years 30 years
after. So that is just incredible. All
right, here's a little lunch time. This
was
about $2.50. This one was $1.25.
Good, huh?
Healthy. I think it's fixed. The guys
are happy. The hood is back down. New
part is installed. And this magician,
air conditioning magician, former police
officer, cancer survivor, he fixed it.
Bahut dhanyawad ji. Thank you. Thank
you, sir. Good job. Thank you. Watch
what the cars do. Everybody's going
across. Look.
Everybody this is just a normal
And this guy he doesn't know cuz he's in
he's in the he's the only person in the
lane, but everybody when you drive this
car, they cut across all lanes like
this.
So you're just going to have to go with
the flow. Next stop in the saga of this
journey is dropping it at a mechanic.
I'll put a list of how much stuff we're
getting done. I want you guys to guess
in the comments how much you think this
will cost. And we when we come back I'll
review how much we paid to fix like 20
things.
All right, van update. Check your
vehicles in India. We I knew about this
piece being broken right there.
Uh for the shock, but I did not catch
the part where this was welded back on.
So um
uh we're going to get a new axle here
and I think it's going to cost about
$65.
Uh so the inside is all been gutted out.
Uh they're doing a bunch of all uh the
engine
um fixes that I asked. There's a
thermostat right there.
So timing, [music]
uh water pump, thermostat, just a bunch
of maintenance things. Uh clean the
injectors, fuel pump,
uh fuel filter, everything like that.
Just make sure there's no issue
uh while I'm on the road cuz I'd rather
fix it now than later stuck on the side
of the road.
Okay. Okay. 50 cents.
Oh, the shocks. Uh-huh.
So $30?
Uh 5 liter oil.
>> 5 liter oil for 36 uh 36
36 bucks.
100.
Oil filter. Oh my gosh, $1.25. Petrol
filter. Oh, uh gas filter uh $4. Labor
charge. Labor charges uh 6,500.
So that's uh labor charges uh $75
for everything.
In US you

Yeah, in US. Yeah, thank you so much.

So we are at the mobile

Yeah, [music] we passed very good. Oh,
yeah. Oh, good. Service is good.

And we're at 117.
>> We had like 300 or 400 last time. Okay,
so mechanic fixed everything. The car is
good to go. Next stop, modifications. I
just found a home for the van. We're
pulling it in for the first time.
And uh
we're going to have a little uh makeover
with this thing here. Whoop, I think it
was in third.
We good? All good. All good.
The first step is furniture. The
inspiration for this was basically other
camper vans I saw.
Here in India they're using something
that they call sunmica.
Now I'm seeing the label on here and I
kind of understand what it is. Basically
it's a laminate. This Formica is glued
on after being cut to size like you can
see here.
And then when it's all finished it's
wiped down and it looks like real wood.
So
there are mounting points right here on
this uh
metal
grid thing.
All right, last step as you can see is
to put on some gas shocks and some
hardware. And this pretty much concludes
the interior part.
And the fourth step is paint and
graphics. I wanted to go with something
that was a bit different and a bit
eye-catching, so I went with pink.
All right, on to the solar. As you can
see here, I am just uh crimping
uh some of the connections together. And
if you pause the video and you see uh
the types of uh materials I'm working
with here, uh you can do the same thing.
Basically uh you're just stripping the
wire, putting on a connector. Uh and
then uh before doing that you're putting
on this uh waterproof
um uh connection part of the uh uh I
think it's called a junction box.
Then when everything is all connected,
you have your uh waterproof uh
connectors ready to go that snap into
the solar panel. And you can make any
kind of rack uh
you can find. This one I'm basically I I
repurposed uh a roof rack. I cut off the
sides. I made it flat. I welded on a
small piece of metal for extra stability
using L brackets, bolting the panel in.
And then I'll be attaching this rack to
the roof.
Here I am cutting out a square for the
uh Maxxair install. Uh so basically just
taking a uh cut-off wheel,
uh making my cuts. Um then after that
I'm using something called butyl tape uh
to keep a nice waterproof
um installation here.
Um this stuff I brought from US. I could
not find it on Amazon in India.
Um
but basically just clean the surface,
you put it on, then you attach your
uh
we'll just call it the frame of this uh
Maxxair.
And um
uh you screw it in. And then after
screwing it in and it's nice and uh
tight, uh basically you're just going to
put some
uh caulking on there. Uh I'm using
Dicor. It's uh actually sorry, Sikaflex,
but you could also use Dicor
self-leveling. Sikaflex is a little bit
uh stronger. Uh as you can see the roof
is
uh not very stable. It's uh flexing. And
um
so
you know, the more waterproofing the
better. A good seal on this stuff, you
know, just trim off all the extra
uh butyl tape and then make a nice uh
uh area for this uh caulking stuff. And
uh basically that's it.

are putting the graphics on today. Yeah.

actually the final. Not even so far,
just the final. So this is uh my Jack's
Austin logos. We're having the scan to
win the van plus 3 lakh rupees. Uh so
for like US this comes out to Well, you
can do the exchange rate. It's about 90
to 1, so that is about $3,700.
No, sorry, $3,600 at the moment. Um we
have my face with
uh this as
or bata, which is like what's up?

is actually Googling some of the
services because like I don't even know
what it's called here in India. So I
could be looking for a word that doesn't
even exist, right? So anyways, enough
about that.
I'll show you guys briefly I'll show you
guys in segments like putting all this
together on the van. I'm very excited.

wires a little bit here.
What else did we do? This from the truck
wallas fixed a little bit some of the
wires for oh, we have a backup camera.
Backup camera now which is wired into a
reverse lights and then it turns on.

now have a power. Hang on this is going
