Incredible Seams of Jasper and Agate and... New Claim Potential?!
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The video documents an exciting geological expedition to a bowl area characterized by glacial marine deposits and limestone formations from higher mountains. The explorers initially face sparse results with mostly white quartz seams lacking significant color or unique features, leading them to question the potential of the site after hiking along the edges without major discoveries. However, their optimism is restored when they begin encountering small but promising pieces of clear seam embedded in volcanic rock, signaling that they are moving toward a more productive zone where gray and colored materials start appearing alongside interesting quartz crystals.
As the team advances further into the terrain, the quality and quantity of the seams increase dramatically, revealing stunning specimens with plume structures, vibrant colors, and pockets of amethyst within agate formations. The discovery intensifies until they locate massive outcrops where entire boulders appear to be composed of high-grade seam material containing deep purple hues indicative of amethyst or "agathist." This breakthrough allows the group to break off large chunks from loose sections sticking out of the ground, confirming that a significant vein is actively emerging from beneath the surface rather than being merely weathered debris.
Despite finding an abundance of smaller pieces and some smoky quartz with less desirable haze, the team successfully secures several massive slabs featuring rich purple interiors for transport back to their vehicle. They spend time carefully breaking down these oversized finds into manageable sizes while noting that certain sections yield more translucency than others, ultimately deciding to give one final dig at a specific spot before heading home. The expedition concludes as a triumphant success story where two distinct seam areas were identified and harvested, proving that despite initial challenges with thinning veins and weathering rocks, the location holds incredible treasure for rockhounds seeking spectacular agate and amethyst specimens.

Hello and welcome back to the rugged
rockhound. We are really hopeful that
this bowl area is going to give us some
nice stuff. And look, we can already see
some gray right there and even over
there. This right here and here that
we're on are probably some glacial
marines back in the time when there were
glaciers. And so here and here is
probably just going to be limestone and
stuff coming from those higher
mountains. So, our focus is definitely
going to be there. Probably along the
front here, and maybe a little up in
there. We'll We'll see. We'll see. Well,
let's get everything and get on up in
there. Well, the gray area unfortunately
is just limestone, but it'll have a
little bit of agot in it here and there
cuz it is coming off these hills. So,
we'll start
here and we'll just walk along the edge
of it.
and then up into there.
See how it goes. All along that was
pretty devoid. There was a little area
where stuff's coming down where we found
a few small pieces of clear seam. That
was it, though. But you can already see
there's the gray we're looking for. That
goes all the way along the front here.
It goes back in here. You can see it on
that. And I don't know what else is on
this side. Gary's going to head for that
side so we can check that. But I'm going
to stay on this side and we'll see if we
get stuff on both sides or just one
side. We'll see. I was down there, hiked
along this. Unfortunately, this entire
jaunt, I've seen basically no Cal
Sydney. He did find some jasper over
there, he said, which I was hoping is
that the areas where it gets more gray
is hopefully better. But I finally ran
into some.
It's not much,
but it's some.
And
I'm hoping things will change. I've got
a little gray in front of me, too,
though. So, I'm headed toward that. But,
we'll see if there's any any more.
Doesn't look like there's any color or
unique things going on. It's just got a
kind of a white rind to it. That one
looks a little better. I think there's
some color in that. There is.
Well, now that's looking a lot more
hopeful.
Yeah, look at that. It's got this
greenish.
It's got stuff going on in it. What
exactly? I'm not sure. Okay, a little up
from it. I see some quartz crystals
right there. That's nice. And what's
that right there?
A little bit of seam.
clear
but a little bigger. Yeah, I won't keep
that. Those quartz crystals are kind of
nice. That piece has got a little bit of
white waterline. It's not great, but
it's better. It is increasing. We're
increasing in quantity and size a little
bit. There's another piece right there.
Good. We are heading in the right
direction, it seems. Well, that's a
bigger piece of seam right there. Look
at that. Oh. Oh, it's okay. So, it's a
bunch of seams in the volcanic,
but overall it's a larger piece. So, the
seam was right in there. I went up a
little ways. It continued with a little
bit, but I decided to come check this
grrey hill out first. And look,
we've already got a colored piece of
seam. It's small, but it's colored. That
looks good. Haven't really seen much
otherwise. Whoa.
Whoa. Wave.
>> [laughter]
>> What the heck? Oh my goodness. Oh,
that's another piece of the colored
seam.
But
what what
Hey guys,
>> are you in it?
>> I'm in it.
Wow.
>> Wow.
That is going to be stunning. You can't
tell great, but you can see, look, it's
going to have plume structures, colors.
Wow. And then the quartz crystals.
That is
Wow.
Holy crap. Where did that come from? Why
is it the only one I see?
Are there any others? I'm like, there's
nothing else around it. It's got to be
upped, right? It's just got to be up
from it.
Wow. Oh, yep. There's a piece right
there. I think I'm seeing more up there.
This could be good
cuz Oh my gosh. Okay, let's head over
there. I think that's some of the seam.
It's going to have the same colors and
stuff. Yes.
Yes.
Wow.
Oh my goodness.
[laughter]
Oh, I think I see more.
Wow. All right. I cleaned this off.
All those quartz points.
And here's the seam itself. Look at that
beautiful stuff.
That is That is spectacular stuff.
Yeah. The best spot to look at is this
side.
Definitely.
Here's this piece of seam cut open. I
just cut the end off of it. It looks so
nice.
Oh yeah. Look at that.
That is sure pretty.
So nice.
All right, put my pack down. I see
multiple. Let's go through it together.
And I think even the little ones are
going to be beautiful.
See that?
Not quite.
Look. See, it's tiny, but it's already
got some color on it. [laughter]
Oh, man.
[sighs and gasps]
Oh, snap.
It's a good day to be a rockhound. Wow.
Is that red or is that just lychan? That
might just that might just be really
bright lykan on it. [laughter]
[gasps] See, look. Even the little ones
Even the little ones are beautiful.
[laughter]
Oh snap.
Oh snap. [laughter]
>> [sighs]
>> This is a good spot. Wow.
Oh,
that makes everything worthwhile.
[gasps] Wow.
Wow. It's coming out through here. I
don't know how much there is. I I
already told Gary and Allan about it.
They're going to see if they can find
anything else coming this way. But with
this, there's got to be more around
here. There's got to be.
Wow.
[laughter]
>> Okay. Okay. I'm going to pause for a
minute and let them get over here cuz I
want them to have some, too. So, and
have let them have some of the joy of
finding them. Here's this piece of seam
cut open. It's nice and thick. And oh,
yes.
Look at that.
Isn't that beautiful?
Here it is. The big piece of seam. We'll
have to look at it one piece at a time.
Ooh, pocket of amethyst.
Look at that.
Let's look at the other side.
Wow.
That's a stunner, isn't it?
Well, I'm going to have to do a little
bit more cleaning to
to those pockets. But wow, isn't that
something?
So, here's a small seam. It's beautiful,
isn't it? The small, the big,
everything.
I'm
I'm really hoping that as we get up here
towards the top, there'll be a lot of it
so that they can get plenty cuz it it is
kind of a little sparse still, but I
definitely saw it increasing going up,
which is why, like I said, I'm I've
stopped. I'm not going any higher right
now. I'm kind of staying low, but
there's plenty of little pieces, too,
though. And they're beautiful.
Just beautiful.
All right, just in case it wasn't coming
across as clearly, I really want to show
you with the macro lens. Just how
stunning this material is.
Just look at that.
Wow. Huh. Here, let's take a look at
this.
See, you got the plumes, the stelagtites
coming from the sides, the color in it.
It's beautiful.
This is This is nice stuff.
And big one with the quartz.
[sighs]
You know, it's going to be good when you
cut it. It's just going to be fantastic.
And of course that one.
Oh boy. Huh. Yep. That's what we're
going to be finding in here. So, I had
set the stuff there and I was just kind
of looking around. I missed that though.
I was just up there and I missed that.
Look at that. That's a piece of it. Oh,
yes. [laughter]
A good thicker piece of it, too.
>> [snorts]
>> That is beautiful.
Here's this piece of seam cut open. You
know it's going to be good. Oh, yes
indeed.
Look at that.
Very, very nice. That's where I found
the thick piece. I think that's some
right there. And I missed it because it
just from the outside I didn't notice.
But there it is. There's some of the
seam.
Yes. Oh, another piece right there.
Very nice.
Oh, is that another piece? Maybe, maybe
not. Oh, not quite. Cleaned off this
piece of the seam so we could get a
better look at it. That's pretty sweet,
huh?
Nice. There's my pack. I came this way
and look, these pieces are darker.
Look at that.
[laughter] That's cool, too. I don't
think it's quite as good as that stuff,
but that comes at least this far. That's
That's good indicator. We should be uh
able to find a decent amount of
material. Here's this piece of seam cut
into. Oh, very nice.
That is beautiful.
I've continued coming here to the right
and they continue. So, I'm not seeing
thick like I saw over there. I think
that's the main bulk of it in there, but
we're still getting thin. I think the
top of this hill is going to be really
good.
And I saw another piece over here to
take a look at.
Okay, that one's not very good, but
those are decent. Well,
that's interesting. Those aren't very
good. That one's a little better, but
it's thin. You should be in it right
now.
Here's this piece of seam cut open. Very
thin. Yep. Just a thin little piece. The
big pieces were all right through there.
Since then, all I've seen are smaller
pieces for the most part, but they keep
going. They come and go, and they're all
beautiful.
And I think I saw one. Yeah. Right
there.
Oh, yeah. That's beautiful.
[gasps]
That's a nice piece, too. Hey, there's a
seam where it's coming out right there.
Thin seam right there. Decent. Here's
this piece of this seam cut into. Oh,
beautiful green.
I like it. Here's this piece of seam cut
open. This This thinner seam has been
just great. Oh, look at that.
The color in it is just not so nice.
Almost like a turquoiseish.
Here's this piece of seam cut into.
Whoa.
Hello, green.
That's nice.
Here's this piece of seam cut into.
Instead of cutting it like this like all
the others, I cut it like this. Okay.
All right. Yeah, cutting it the other
way is definitely better. Just wanted to
check and see. Here's this piece of seam
cut into. It's got a little bit of
white. Oh, whoa. A lot of white in it.
Well, that's interesting.
lets you see some of the formation. So,
either those were tubes, stctites, or
they were just little kind of balls.
Slicking line, but it's pretty.
More pieces. There's a piece. And look,
there's a piece right there.
So, plenty of thinner ones. And that's
good. That means we'll still have plenty
of material. I just wish there was more
of the bigger.
Some of the rocks have some interesting
alteration to them, too. Is that a piece
of seam right there?
It is.
Oh, look at that. Oh, right next to it.
See, look. It's all through here.
So, while we've got multiple little
seams kind of running off a little bit,
that big seam, I put my pack right where
the last big piece I found. The big
other big piece was right there. I just
found that one right here. So, I'm going
to try and see if I can locate where
it's coming out. Dig into the surface a
little bit up there.
But first, I'm going to keep looking
down because when I came across and saw
the first one, I went up. So, let's go
down a little bit. See if there's any
other big pieces laying around
that I haven't really seen. There's a
smaller piece, but even small pieces can
be pretty.
So, if you go straight down that all I
saw was that little bit, grabbed the tip
of it and boom, another big piece of it.
Huh.
I wonder if it's raining down
and maybe into here.
I don't know. This could have just
simply come weathered out a while ago.
I'm so surprised there's so few.
Anyway, we'll we'll still try and see if
we can figure out where it's coming out.
There's this one cleaned off a bit just
so we could get a better look at it.
Very nice.
Looks like we got another piece. How big
is it?
Not very big. Still nice though.
Very nice. Just found that piece.
Isn't that stuff beautiful?
Gary's been up there a little bit, so I
think he might have found something
interesting. Allan's been up in that
zone for a little bit, so he might have
found something interesting there, too.
Just found that nice piece. So, I'm over
from there. Look at all these little red
I'm pretty sure those red ones are this
stuff. Not the thick seam. A thinner
one. Okay, not that one. But they are
really nice. Yeah, there we go.
I'm pretty sure that's one that kind of
that deeper red seems to be the stuff.
And it is
very nice.
Great. Okay, so this little zone right
here has a fair bit more.
That's good.
They're kind of small, but at least
there's more of it. Here's this piece of
seam cut into. Very nice.
Very nice indeed. Here's this piece of
seam cut into
that beautiful bluish green.
I've continued to find quite a few of
the uh the the dark red ones. Usually
between, you know, that and that thick.
Looks like we got a little bit of a
thicker one right here, though. Oh, yes.
Very nice. That'll be great. I'm just
trying to make sure I've got enough
pieces to give to both Gary and Allen.
When Gary came over, he actually didn't
spot much. And Allan's been elsewhere.
So, I want to make sure I got plenty of
pieces for them. And I think I'm almost
there, which means then the last thing
is to go dig and see if I can find where
the big seam was coming out. That's a
good looking piece. And that is as well.
That's Oh, that's even better. Very
nice. So, this seam is probably coming
out right in here,
which is a nice seam, but it's
[laughter] not as good as that big one.
Well, I'm going to move on from this
spot. I continued to find a few more of
the, you know, the smaller ones and a
few decent things. I dug into it. Looked
around, dug down. It was quite a bit of
soil to get down to the bedrock. Didn't
find much. And the hard thing here is
because of the so few pieces of the
larger things will pinch and swell. So,
they'll get big and they'll get small.
And it could be the vast majority of the
big has already rooted out and what's
left might start to pinch, you know, and
whatever's going on. So, there's
definitely more here, but it's
definitely going to take some work to uh
find that.
But, as for today, let's keep moving on.
So, Gary has moved on that way. Allan's
gone that way. So, I'm just going to go
ahead and head straight and see if I
find anything on the way to meet up with
them. See what else they might have
found. I kind of think this is going to
be the highlight of this spot, but cuz
that that material is nuts. That is some
fantastic stuff.
But
who knows what else there is. You never
know when you're going to run into
something. And there could be more just
right up there where they are. In fact,
he's just standing there looking at
something. So, there's a good chance he
found something. So, I crested that
hill. On the other side of that was
where those really good seams were. Came
over it. From there to here, it's been a
bunch of really thin white seams. So, it
tapered down to these white seams. But
right here, look at that. We're starting
to get a little bit more color again.
Starting to look a little bit more like
what we got over there. Not nearly as
good, but
that you see it's an indicator. There's
probably more out here that look like
that. All right, let's get a get a view.
So, there's the vehicle. Came up that
hill right in the middle. That's where
the good stuff was. Came across. Haven't
really seen anything. Came over here,
started to see a tiny bit of white.
Gary's up there. He says he's only
finding little stuff, though. This is
the first thing I've seen that looks
interesting enough. Let's take a look
together.
Oh,
okay. It is a seam.
Can't tell how good it is, though. But
interesting enough, I think I'll take it
back to cut it. A thick seam or a thin
coating on the surface.
H. Let's take a closer look.
And
[gasps]
well,
I'm not entirely sure. I don't actually
have a spray bottle with me today. I was
going to go light so I could hike.
Well, I see it there and there and the
rest looks good like it should be seam.
But if it's like that white most of the
way through.
H [sighs]
I don't know. Well, I used some of my
drinking water and as you can see it's
just white all the way through. So,
because it's so heavy, obviously, I'm
going to leave that. But being that big.
Okay. Good indicator. Okay. We're
starting to get a little bit of seam.
Tiny piece. Tiny piece. A little bit
thicker. Just clear.
But we're finally seeing it again cuz we
we came a fair distance without finding
really anything.
[sighs]
All right.
Oh, I think I see something bigger right
there. It might be more of that white.
Let's go take a look.
Ah, yep. I think it is more of that
white.
Bigger piece. Much bigger piece.
a little bit more than just white. See
how it looks almost quartzite sugary?
It's still seam.
But it does look to be mostly just
white.
H
Yeah, I don't know if I'll take that
back. That's That's a lot of weight.
Well, that's a chunk, isn't it? That's a
big piece of it. And it might have a
little bit of color going in through it.
Too big for me, but
cool. Let's see if that's anything.
It's different.
It's more of the white.
Very fractured. Okay. Yep. Pretty much
just white. All right. Allan's explored
there and gone across there. Um I don't
have a walkie-talkie with him. I have it
with Gary, so he relays. Sounds like at
some point he seemed to be finding some
nodules. Um, I've been seeing more and
more of the clear seam. Still just thin
pieces, but Gary just called me. He's
back there and he said he found a large
piece of seam that wasn't just white.
There might be more going on. So, we're
going to head in that direction and meet
up with him while at the same time just
seeing if we find anything good along
the way. Soon as I hit about there, it
started picking up in the seam. you
know, smaller clear pieces of seam
mostly, but occasionally thicker ones.
And most of them, the core of them are
calsite
like this. And those are crystals of
calsite. I wish we had those like full
and intact. Problem is calite. As soon
as it gets to the surface, starts
weathering pretty bad.
Well, that's a a little bit more than
just white, but very fractured.
Pretty neat, though, huh? That piece is
a little bigger.
Yeah. Look at the core of it. That's all
calsite and the outside's white. Just
white quartz. Soon as I left the ridge
and started coming this way, it
immediately went down and there was a
lot less material. I've been coming
across this being seeing barely
anything. And then all of a sudden, out
of the blue, a really big piece.
Let's take a closer look.
Okay. Looks like it's going to be pretty
much just clear. And then you can see
there's a volcanic right in the middle
of it.
Yeah. Neat. But just clear. So, going to
leave it. Gary called me just on the
walkie-talkie. He's right over here. He
said he's found a bunch. He's like, "Go
ahead and come on over." Um,
and the clear seam is picking up again.
I'm starting to see a lot more of it
again,
but so far it's been all clear and
white. Well, look at that. It has
significantly increased and we're
starting to get some things going on in
it. Maybe even some color. Look at that.
Watch on that.
That
saw some other interesting things up
here. See, we're starting to get
get some neat things going on. I think
we're approaching his zone. [laughter]
Yeah. Look at that. It is definitely
definitely getting better.
Oh,
that's a big one right there.
Wow.
This is the type of stuff that we tend
to find amethyst in.
H
There's another piece right there.
Let's take a look at that.
Whoa.
[laughter]
Yep. We're back in it. All right. Look
at all these pieces we're finding now.
Look at all this and that. Look at that
massive thing. It's probably
Probably should try breaking something
to see if there's amethyst in it. And
Gary's got a huge piece of seam held up.
It was like this and it was fantastic
looking from here. Anyway,
what a nice spot. All right, Gary, show
us your stuff.
[laughter]
>> What to do with this?
>> I like the red in that one. [sighs]
>> Yeah. I mean,
>> oh my goodness.
>> This is just one of my high grade piles.
I have a bunch. It's everything.
>> Uh, we need to break one because I
wonder if it's amethyst. It has that
look from the outside that could
potentially be amethyst.
>> We should probably break something.
>> Okay. But very nice. Good find.
[laughter]
>> That's a nice find.
>> It's everywhere, man.
>> There's plenty here. Yep.
>> You're almost in line with it. Just a
little up and you're in line with it.
Here it is where it's coming out.
Boom.
Boom. And away it goes all through this.
So, we got a huge thick seam of it.
Fantastic.
Let's bust some pieces off to see if
it's amethyst cuz that would be awesome.
>> That entire rock is seam and that
boulder is seam. [sighs and gasps]
>> Well, Gary, what do you have to say
about this uh discovery here?
>> I'm the winner.
>> This is a big seam. Wow. Anybody want
any seam
for scale? There's my hand. There's his
hand pick. It's massive.
This seam is massive. And until we get
some pieces and take back and cut it, we
don't know what kind of cool things are
going on in it. We We don't know. I
broke a piece off.
Confirmed. Amethyst or because it's an
agot seam.
>> Agthist.
>> Agathist. So, we got agot and amethyst.
Well, whatever you want to call it, but
that is purple. And that's piece that's
just been sitting on the surface. So, if
we can break down into some of this, get
some pieces that are further away from
sunlight, we'll have some nice pieces.
So, we're going to break pieces off. I'm
going to fill my pack with what I can
and maybe one piece in my arms. And
that's what I'm going with. I I don't
know what you're going to carry back.
[laughter]
>> I'm going to carry as much as I can, but
we'll uh have a shot at it, too.
>> Yeah, we'll wait for him to get over
here. So, this piece was sticking out
right there. That whole thing was
actually loose, so we just kind of
pulled it out. broke a corner off of it.
Look at that. So, I'm trying to like
downsize pieces, focusing on trying to
just get the amethyst portion. So, I'm
going to play around. See if we can
break some of this down.
We'll see what we can get out of it. Not
a great tool, this thing. That's the
only thing we got. We're trying to break
this with that into manageable size
pieces.
So, I've been busting it down. Managed
to get it down. And this is the big
piece I'm going to take back. Look at
that beautiful purple. So, that's my big
piece. I'm going to try and get a few
more smaller, manageable pieces to stuff
in the pack, but that'll be the one I'll
carry in my hand. All right, I got two
nice good sized in the pack. That one
I'm going to carry. And we're going to
head back down to the vehicle. I cut
into this one. This is the only piece of
the the seam that I cut into because the
other one is too big.
Whoa.
Okay, it's a bit cloudy, but otherwise
it's pretty nice. So, after cutting it
like this, I also cut some smaller
pieces
in the hopes that it would let some
light through.
Okay, it does let light through.
It's almost like a a smoky purple.
Very interesting.
Um,
not as good as I was hoping this would
be.
And because I grabbed my pieces from the
same section, the other one's probably
going to look a lot like this. So, I
don't know. It's decent.
I mean, I like the purple. Hm.
Interesting. So, here's a slab I cut.
Um, I have another one that's thinner
that I'm using to try and make into a
cababashon. So, you may see that later
in the video, but this is what it looks
like. It's decent material. Getting some
of that purple, but you're also getting
that really smoky haze, which I wish it
was more purple than smoky haze, but
it's still pretty stuff.
And then here's another one from a
different section of one that I cut.
Again, we're getting a lot of this
material in some places, which isn't as
good as the purple that we're trying to
get, but it's still neat in its own way.
Here's a couple of slabs of one of the
smaller ones. So, the material that
looks like this, I don't think it's
really going to be any good cuz you're
not really getting any translucency.
There isn't much color to it. So, the
pieces like this just aren't really
going to be what we're looking for. So
on the way back down, we decided to give
this spot one more shot. And just barely
poking out of the ground. Was that?
Look at that.
[snorts]
Oh, that's going to be some amazing
seam. And then a few other ones that
were right next to it. So the big one,
the big thick one I found earlier was
there. These were right there. It has to
be in here somewhere. So, we're going to
because now we got two people and the
lighting's different.
We're going to dig a bit and just see if
we can figure it out cuz it's just so
good.
All right, progress so far. Allan went
up a little higher to check. I've been
just sifting through this and I found
this one right there.
Another big piece. So, the other big
pieces there.
>> Got it. Got it. Got it. Got it.
>> He found it. Yes. Okay. It was a little
higher up.
He He found the seam, I think.
>> I think so. It's in there.
>> There it is. He found it. Well done,
Alan.
Oh, snap.
Plenty for everybody. Maybe. We'll see.
>> Oh, is that Yeah. Oh, [laughter]
>> that is
>> Oh, look how thick that is. Cuz it's
actually like that. Yeah.
>> Oh,
[laughter]
my pack's too full. Dang it.
>> Is it amethyst or is this
>> uh this is better?
>> This is a lot better.
>> Well done.
Yep. The hard stuff is the is the uh
seam.
>> The same. Yeah.
>> Made it back to Allan. What did he find?
Boom.
So that's the seam. It's coming out. It
keeps going. He dug out a ton of it.
>> It keeps going right down here.
>> So the seam just works its way down
through there.
>> Keeps on going. So
>> Oh boy.
>> There is green
on
>> on the edges of it.
>> On the edges of it.
>> Huh. And we're on our way back to the
vehicle. What a fantastic day has it.
It's Wow. I'm so glad you Allan found
where the seam was coming out. So two
great seam areas. Amazing stuff. What a
wonderful day. Ah, I hope you guys
enjoyed it. I sure did. And remember,
there is treasure everywhere.
Woo!
