Özellikle İkinci Dünya Savaşı'nda USS Iowa gemisinde görev alanların hikayeleri gibi somut örnekler üzerinden, hala hayatta olan savaşçıların ailelerini davet ederek geçmişten gelen anlatıları bugüne taşıyan güçlü bir bağ kurulmaktadır. Kurucuların ve yetkililerin vurguladığı en önemli nokta, ziyaretçilerin müzeye girdiklerinde sahip oldukları merakı artıracak ve evlerine giderken yeni keşfetmiş olacakları hikayeler sunmaktır. Bu yaklaşım, sadece tarihi nesneleri sergilemekle kalmayıp, izleyicilerde daha fazla soru sorma isteği uyandırarak toplumsal bilinci ve tarihsel farkındalığı derinleştirmeyi hedeflemektedir.
Müzenin tasarımı, Minnesota'nın askeri geçmişini bugünün hizmet üyeleriyle birleştirerek insanları birbirine bağlama fırsatı yaratmayı amaçlamaktadır. Hafta sonu töreninin ardından yarın sabah saat 10.00'de müzenin resmi açılış şerit kesimi gerçekleşecektir. Bu önemli kültürel projenin desteklenmesinde Minnesota Sanat ve Kültürel Miras Fonu ile çalışanların sahip olduğu Lunds Village Gıda firması da yer almaktadır. Well, this weekend, a new chapter in
Minnesota military history begins just
outside the gates of Camp Ripley in
Little Falls. But, before the Minnesota
Military and Veterans Museum officially
opens its doors, the campus has had a
remembrance for a day that changed the
nation and a generation of service
members. Our reporter, Xavier Curry, has
more details for this week's In Focus.
>> This weekend marks a very significant
moment in Minnesota's military future,
but today, 25 years ago, marked a very
important moment in America's history.
Before these doors open to the public,
the campus will first pause to remember
the 25th anniversary of 9/11, setting
the tone for the weekend, focusing on
service, sacrifice, and preserving the
history of Minnesota's military.

Ladies and gentlemen, as we remember
>> It's essential for every veteran and
veterans' families uh to come and see
and witness, hear the stories, look
[snorts] at the artifacts, see some of
the tremendous dedication and sacrifices
that were done by our fellow
Minnesotans. We have a great state that
serves.
>> The new [snorts] museum's exhibit halls
and outdoor spaces will take visitors
through Minnesota's military history,
from the Civil War and World Wars all
the way to Minnesota's veterans who
served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
>> I do think we have some very distinct
stories to tell, uh and we tell them in
a manner that haven't been told before.
So, I think you're going to see and
discover some new things. I hope the
visitors go away being more curious than
when they came in. They're going to
stumble upon a veteran and a story or a
topic that they find fascinating and
they want to go home and find out more
information. So, curiosity is something
I hope that uh results from their visits
here.
>> For veterans attending, the museum
offers something beyond artifacts behind
glass, a chance to see the experiences
and sacrifices of generations of
Minnesota service members preserved in
one place.
>> We're telling the story about World War
II and the USS Iowa's activities there
and I'm involved with the World War II
round table in Minnesota and have a lot
of World War II friends and several
still alive and telling their stories,
bringing their families to tell their
stories here and then read about those
in the past from the Civil War all the
way up to where we're at right now.
>> From the stories of those who served
generations ago to the events that
shaped a new generation of service, the
museum is designed to connect
Minnesota's military past with the
people who carry those stories forward.
>> It's the chance for people to connect
with one another. It's happening today
with with veterans here, families
connecting with one [music] another.
That's the very best thing that can
happen is relationships being built.
We're going to offer some fantastic
gallery spaces, some great multimedia
opportunities, I think, but most
importantly just that human connection
that this space enables.
