A new $12 million hotel is expected to open in Pequot Lakes next year. And last week we were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Comfort Inn and Suites. Reporter Miles Walker has the details for this week's in business. >> Comfort Inn and Suites owner Monte Jensen sees the incoming hotel as a project representing a significant economic development milestone for the city of Pequot Lakes. >> When we started work on this with the city of Pequot Lakes and the mayor to bring this property here, it's really important to keep getting the word out. It just kind of leaps off of what we've been doing. So when we sent the invites out and seen them all show up, that's amazing. It shows that all these people have a vested interest in our community and that they they want to move forward seeing growth. >> The Comfort Inn and Suites is slated to have 69 units. It will be stationed right off Highway 371 and near the Paul Bunyan State Trail. The hope is that the project will help account for reduced traffic near the community's traditional business corridor following the Highway 371 bypass project. >> We're also going to be focused on marketing everything that the community has to offer. The parks, the splash pad, to the businesses downtown. We're going to integrate with all of the people around the community. Now when people that come from outside the area have a place to stay and that's right in front of them, that's going to impact everybody here. And so it's a it's a big benefit to the community and one of our main focuses. >> Comfort Inn and Suites is intended to help bring visitors and overnight stays back into the community supporting local restaurants, retailers, recreation providers, and other businesses. >> We've had a lot of discussions with a lot of developers actually that want to build things here, but it always seems to have this little bit of hesitation because it is a new development a little bit outside of downtown. People seem to be waiting for that first person to take the jump. Now that this has happened broken ground, more people are coming to the plate. >> The Comfort Inn and Suites is the first major project within the 80-acre Patriot development area.
