Video summary

The video documents a chaotic week for fourth-grade teacher Charlotte from her channel "Apples N Tiaras," which began with her YouTube account being hacked via a phishing email on August 16th. The hackers gained access to her Google account by pretending to be YouTube support, leading to the loss of her main channel where they posted inappropriate Bitcoin content before it was taken down. This incident forced Charlotte to freeze her credit, change bank accounts, and move all her bills to new emails to protect her personal life from being uprooted. Fortunately, with the help of her viewers who reported the hack, Google disabled the compromised account, allowing her to regain access to her email by August 24th. Although her main channel remained offline for a few days, she eventually had it reinstated, expressing immense relief and gratitude toward YouTube and her community after a whirlwind week that included traveling to Phoenix for her birthday and a wedding. Once back in the classroom routine, Charlotte shares her efforts to catch up on lessons while adjusting to the post-hack reality of teaching. She reveals that she is currently behind schedule in math, specifically regarding prime and composite numbers, because many students lack their basic multiplication facts from third grade. To address this gap, she has created large multiplication charts for her students to use as reference tools while she teaches them how to determine factor pairs mentally. In reading class, the focus is on analyzing story elements using the novel *Because of Winn-Dixie*, utilizing graphic organizers generated with AI to help students describe settings and moods. She also highlights the strong support system within her school, where a new teammate named Mercedes has stepped up to cover math and reading prep, allowing Charlotte to mentor a new colleague while managing her own heavy workload. As the week progresses into Thursday, Charlotte reflects on the challenge of balancing work, motherhood, and vlogging while trying to find her groove again. She admits that planning for a full week ahead is difficult right now, so she has shifted to daily planning to stay current with the curriculum. The class continues its study of factors, multiples, and prime numbers using songs from "Teaching and So Forth" to maintain high engagement before taking a test on Friday. Looking ahead, the team plans to wrap up their unit on story elements and move into fractions, acknowledging that they are a week behind the calendar but determined to sprint through the remaining August days. The vlog concludes with Charlotte heading out for her son's first double-header baseball tournament, expressing deep appreciation for her subscribers who supported her during the hacking crisis and wishing everyone a happy weekend.

[music] >> Good morning, everyone. Happy Tuesday and welcome back to another Apples N Tiaras vlog featuring Cash Man. Cash, we're kind of matching today. Our shirts are almost the same color. Yours is like a off-white and mine's like butter yellow. But, they're kind of giving the same color. Anyways, good morning, everyone. It has been quite a ride for the last week. Um I just wanted to catch you guys up. Whether this is being posted on um my like newer Shoe In channel or on my original channel, um it has been quite the week. Um if you guys are new here, my name is Charlotte and I am a fourth-grade teacher in Arizona. I'm also a boy mom. I've got two boys and I'm just, you know, doing the thing. I'm doing the same thing you're doing. Um if you're a teacher mom or if you're just a working mom, I'm riding the same wave you are. Um but last week was uh quite a ride. Um it is currently August 25th. Um on the 16th of August, my YouTube channel Apples N Tiaras was hacked and stolen. Um they got me. They managed to get me through a spam email. Uh they were pretending to be YouTube letting me know that I had a strike against my channel, that I needed to look into it, and that I needed to log in. And when I clicked the login button, once I put in my username and password, I immediately lost access to my Gmail, uh my Google account that is linked to Okay, sorry about that. Um, like I was saying, so as soon as I logged in, obviously it wasn't the correct YouTube website and I really should have checked better, but I just didn't at the time. I think I was like, you know, overwhelmed by bedtime at the time. Like I could just tell that that's what happened. I I wasn't really of sound mind when I was opening it um, and clicking on it. So, anyway, I clicked on it, lost access within seconds. Um, the hackers had changed all of my recovery information. All of my two-step verification didn't work. Um, and so it was completely gone. Um, within the next day, the hackers had posted a Bitcoin live something on my channel and so all of my amazing viewers here um, helped me out in reporting the channel and it was taken down. And then Google disabled the account. So, the hackers, I think really only had access to my account for maybe like a day or two. It didn't look like they sent anything because I did regain access to my Google account. I have my email back up. Uh, this was as of yesterday, the 24th. I was able to get back into my Gmail. Um, my YouTube channel is still down. Um, they are still um, investigating what happened, but I have raging hope that it's going to get reinstated, um, because it is very obvious that it was hacked. I mean, you can see like 12 years of teaching videos and princess stuff and then all of a sudden a Bitcoin video pops up, it just doesn't make sense. So, I have full faith that it's going to be reinstated, but if it's not reinstated by this moment, um, then you're seeing this on my alternate channel, which funny, it was a channel that my husband and I had started years ago that we were like, oh, we'll do like a family channel. That's where you can put all your like family stuff and then it can be like a cute little memory thing to look back on and who knows, maybe it'll still be something that we'll do, but anyway, for now at least I'm using it. And then, so the whole week I was like changing bank accounts, freezing my credit, like moving all of my bills to a different email. Like it was just crazy the amount of things that I had to do to protect myself after being hacked because the email that was hacked, I mean, there were things on there, like personal things, like my electric bill, my gas bill, like the account that I used to buy the baby's diapers, like it's just like really, like you really had to steal my channel so that you could like uproot my life. It's just annoying. So anyway, after a week of grinding to get everything cleaned up and fixed, I finally get my channel back. It was my birthday weekend. We went to Phoenix for the weekend. We went to a wedding. Took the kids with us. So it was just a whirlwind of a week, but we are back. >> But we didn't go anywhere. >> The guinea pig didn't go anywhere. Um, but it is Tuesday. I took yesterday off to travel home from the wedding. Um, and so I'm just eager to get back in my classroom. Um, something super exciting that is happening today, I'll have to update you guys when it's happening, but one of my previous students from eight years ago, when I was pregnant with Cash, actually the year I had him, um, one of my beautiful students, her name is Cam, she is actually starting her journey to become a teacher. And so, I've invited her to my classroom to do all of her service hours. You know, when you're starting to become a teacher, you have to get in the classroom and observe and just kind of be there and just immerse yourself in it just to like, you know, get your service hours. So, anyway, I've invited her to come and do that with me. So, I think she's coming today. I've got to double check, but I'm pretty sure she's coming today and I think she might be coming this morning. So, I'm going to double check and if she feels comfortable, I'll put her on the vlog just for fun during our prep or during our lunch. Oh, there's the babies. There's the bees bees. Cash is guinea pig and my class pet, Mia. Anyway, I'm digressing. I'm going to get to school and I'm going to try and film as much as I possibly can, but when I have a student teacher of any type, whether it's an intern, service hours, observers, student teacher, I'm very intentional about talking my way through everything that way they can really learn the why for everything that I do. So, anyway, I will see you guys at school. All right, just got to school and I just read the note from my substitute teacher. All good things. All good things. So, I bribed the kids with if they got a good report from their sub that I would give them three complement balls or complement beans. Anyway, this is our class complement jar. I don't find myself needing to use it too much to inspire them to be good because I have a really good class this year. But, I did promise them that if they had a good sub report, they would get five marbles. Marbles, that's what they're called. Beans? Balls? Cash, your guinea pig needs water. Cash. She needs water. Um anyway, so I do owe them five um marbles. And so we're going to just get started with the day. So, I left my sub with a lot of like random practice stuff um rather than real life lessons. So, I am going to be playing catch up today. I have all my stuff here from the sub. Um and I think I need to go ahead on to lesson seven of our math program where I'm introducing prime and composite numbers. So, I need to update my learning target on the board. Turn all the lights on. If you don't have one of these already, you need to get yourself a remote for all of your plugs. It's really a game-changer. Okay, let's log in. >> [music] [music] [crying] >> Hey guys, so it is Tuesday or no, it's not Tuesday. It's Wednesday. It's Wednesday morning. Um and I'm trying to decide how I want to organize my copy drawers. Right now they're organized Monday through Friday, spelling, morphology, language, extra, and time fillers. But I'm finding that the things that I put in my Monday drawer that I end up having to move them. So I contemplated changing them to subject drawers instead and just layering the pages in there in order that I want to accomplish them. That way if I don't get something finished on Monday, I don't have to move everything. Um so I've remade the labels that I have on the drawers. Here, I'll show you what they look like now. So they look like this right now. Um but I'm considering changing them to subject drawers. So rather than 5 days a week, it's five subjects. She has a puffball. Probably see her in it. Do you see her in it? >> No. >> Can you zoom in now? >> Oh, there's a floof. Oh, there's a floof. Hi Mia. >> [laughter] >> Anyway, so I'm considering changing the drawer organization um just so that it's easier for me to kind of organize what's going on on a daily basis. Um so I've worked on that. Okay, so we did not finish a very integral lesson yesterday. Um where we were talking about factor pairs and prime and composite numbers. So we are going to continue with that um with this activity, this lesson practice um on page 44 and 45 of our books. Um I need something now to reintroduce prime and composite numbers. Um because yesterday it kind of seemed like crickets or deer in the headlights when I was talking about. So yesterday I ended up making my kids a large multiplication chart and on the backside is a place value chart for when we get to place value concepts. Um because I do have my multiples wall over in the corner and each kid has a small up to 10 multiplication chart on their um name tags. But, I could just see that they really don't know their facts from third grade and so I printed each one a larger multiplication chart so that um when we're working with factors and multiples, we can pull this out and um it will hopefully help them to determine factors and multiples. Um unfortunately, I don't think they'll be able to use it on any assessment. Um they will have to just go from their knowledge, so I do have to teach them how to determine factor pairs in their head. Um and you know, unfortunately, this is just one of those situations where if you don't know your facts by fourth grade, it is going to hinder you. So, I am going to send a message home today just letting parents know like, "Hey, please please please practice your math facts with your kiddos because the skill we're doing right now requires them to know their facts, like know them." Um so, we are going to roll with that for math. I am going to look um when I'm done talking to you guys, I'm going to look for um maybe like a slideshow or maybe a video that I could show them to explain factor pairs um just a little bit better um to help them out. And then in reading today, and then in reading today, we're going to read chapter five of Because of Winn-Dixie. And then I made these really cool graphic organizers. Well, I didn't make them. Chat GPT made them. But, they look like this. Because of Winn-Dixie. Super cute. It has you doing a snapshot of the setting from chapters 1 and 2. Um I'm thinking about potentially making this for a couple of other chapters. Um but I do want to read chapter 4 or sorry, chapter 5 today. Um and then have the kids work on this because right now we're talking about describing the setting of stories. And this is great because it has the kids accessing their senses, um what the text says about the setting, why does the setting matter, what's the mood of the setting, um three details, and then they have to quick sketch the grocery store from Because of Winn-Dixie. I don't know if you guys have ever read this story before. If you haven't, it is a really good novel study to do with a class of I would say probably third, fourth, or fifth graders. It's great for teaching story elements, characters, settings, plot, theme, and point of view. Um so we are using it as our main mentor text to teach those skills in addition to reading other texts because you do want to expose them to multiple texts. Um so this is what we are going to do today after we read chapter 5. Uh then we'll just return to chapters 1 and 2 um just because this has it on there. Or I could quick remake this for chapter 5. Maybe I'll do that because this is kind of irrelevant at this point. Um and Chat GPT can easily remake this and I can just make new copies. And then I could just save this for like an early finisher. I could say, "Okay, go back to chapters 1 and 2 and describe the setting." Hey you guys. So it is 4:00 in the afternoon. I don't know if I said this already. If I did, I will edit this out. But as of now, Apples and Tiaras is live and kicking. We are back, you guys. Thank you so much to YouTube for helping me fix this problem. Oh my gosh, what a whirlwind. I mean, the fact that it only took me a week to get everything put back together is pretty impressive. So, we are back, you guys. We are here on Apples and Tiara's and I am just so thrilled. I feel such a sigh of relief. Um you know, when you work so hard for so many years to build something and then for it to just disappear, it like hurts the heart, it hurts the soul, but I tried to stay positive through the whole thing. And I just trusted God and I prayed and it all paid off. I feel so much more relieved. Um I'll have to do a video about how I got everything back under control because there was not a lot of help for me out in the world. Um and so maybe I will sit down and film something related to how I got my YouTube channel back for any of you that ever have to go through this problem. So, anyway, we are home. It is time for baseball. So, I will see you guys in the next clip. Good morning, everyone and happy Thursday. You know what I realized this morning? I need to get used to vlogging at school again. Like in the middle of my day. Like I am so out of touch with how do I balance working and working? >> [laughter] >> Like how do I do everything? Um yesterday I felt like I got a lot done in the afternoon. So, today I'm feeling a little bit more caught up, which is great. Um we are kind of in like the middle of trying to find our groove. If you guys are teachers and you have started back at school, let me know by putting an apple in the comments down below. Um and just let me know, how are you adjusting back to work life? Like planning. Normally, I plan like a week ahead. So, on Monday, I'll start planning for the next week. I try to pick like a subject every day, and then that way I have everything prepped and ready to go for the week coming. Um but lately, it's been like, "Oh, I'm planning for like tomorrow or the next day." Um and I'm not really feeling like I'm getting ahead of everything. Not before school, honey. After school, okay? Put it back in the box. Um and so, I feel like I will get there. I'll get caught up. I'll get back in my groove. Um but I also have a brand new teammate who is new to our school, new to our state, and so I am also trying to mentor them, mentor him. Um and it's not hard. I love doing it, but it is, you know, another step. Um and I'm happy to help him. I know that when I first came to the school, I really needed help from my teammates to understand both how the school operated, the curriculum that the school was using, and just all of the day-to-day things, you know? So, I am happy to help. Mercedes is an amazing help, too. Like, we are such good team. Um Mercedes takes care of math prep. So, she lets us know uh where in the calendar we're supposed to be, and then she provides us with um resources if we need them. Um so, like small group resources, games, activities that we can do with our kids. Um and so, she's got math taken care of. So, I don't have to worry about math. I just do what she tells me to do. Um and then I just adjust as needed. Um but as far as science goes, um math Max and I are kind of tag teaming science. Like, if I If he's ahead, he'll prepare what I'm going to need. If I'm ahead, I'll prepare what he's going to need. And then as far as reading goes, that is mostly on me. I am the one who is planning and pulling all of the reading resources. Mercedes is great at it, too. If she has time, she'll kind of like jump ahead and do it for me. Like this last week, she went ahead and copied like a bunch of stuff for us to do with our kids this week for reading cuz I just Last week I was going through a lot with like the YouTube hack and my birthday and just so many things kind of like tangled into one. Um she really stepped up as a teammate and just kind of like in the blanks for me. And so that is what a good team does, you know? Like we are a very well-oiled machine and I'm sure that we will get our grounding very soon. You know, this is only the I think third full week of school. We are still just barely almost done with August. And so we've really only been in school about 20 days, 20 physical days we've been in the school year. So you know, it is going to take some time to adjust, but I think that over time it'll be good. Um so it's Thursday, which means that today and tomorrow I am starting to think about what we are doing next week. Um this week and next week we are trying to wrap up story elements. So we've been teaching our students how to analyze and describe characters, analyze and describe [music] the setting of a story and how it contributes to the plot. And then we're going to start organizing and describing events as they take place in a story. And we are using the novel because of Winn-Dixie to do that. It is something we have done for the last few years. We absolutely love doing novel studies. Um and the kids are obsessed with reading the book. So I am trying to come up with um activities that match the standard um but go with that book. So um that is the one that we're using to practice with. So I've been using ChatGPT to create some activities. I do have like novel studies that I've purchased from TPT in the past. So, we are mixing up a lot of different things. There's writing tasks, there's drawing tasks, there's uh multiple choice tasks, there's true and false tasks, there's vocab, like it's all a really good mixture of skills that we're working on with the kiddos. And so, and then in math, we are currently working on factors and multiples. So, of course, I have taught my kiddos these songs from Teaching and So Forth. If you guys don't teach with music and you want some high engagement and fun for your class, you've got to look into Teaching and So Forth's um songs. I don't think she posts anymore, um which is unfortunate because I really loved her stuff. But, anyway, there's little songs that she wrote for like almost everything. And um so, I've been teaching my kids the factors and multiples song. And it's really helping them remember what is a factor, what is a multiple, what do we do to find them? So, anyway, that's what we've been doing. Um so, today I'm going to lock in factors and multiples and identifying prime versus composite numbers. And then tomorrow, they will take their CFA on that, CFA number one. Um and then we are moving on to fractions. We are jumping right into equivalent fractions. Um technically, we are a week behind than the calendar suggests. So, we are going to have to uh start sprinting here, >> [laughter] >> which is not fun. So, anyway, I'm going to get ready for the day. If I don't check in with you again today, I apologize. But, I am desperately trying to get myself back into the groove of school and vlogging and just balancing everything um and mom life, of course, because this kid is very important to me. Both of them are, obviously. And um this guy has entered his travel baseball era. So, we are hot and heavy in that as well. Okay, guys. I'm going to get ready for the kiddos to arrive, and I'll see you in the next clip. Hey, you guys. It is Saturday, Charlotte checking in, and we are on the road to our first double-header baseball tournament in the valley. So, I'm going to close today's vlog here, and I'm actually vlogging today. So, this will be another video that you guys will see later down the road. But, I just wanted to let you all know that I'm so grateful for you. Thank you to those of you that helped me with getting YouTube back in order, and reporting the hackers, and all that stuff. So, just wanted to say thank you guys for being here. Don't forget to hit subscribe, follow me on all my socials, and I'll see you in the next one. Bye. >> [music] [music]
