Video summary

The video documents the creator's exploration of the indie game section at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, highlighting several unique titles discovered during the event. The first major highlight is a puzzle-adventure game called *Wax and Wayne*, which features a wax-based protagonist that slowly melts over time, requiring players to solve puzzles before they completely liquefy. Developed by a small team of nine people over roughly four months, the game utilizes an io platform rather than Steam for its current release and includes a quirky enemy that players must evade or invite into puzzles rather than fight directly. The gameplay mechanics involve rebuilding oneself from melted parts and navigating checkpoints, offering a distinct experience from typical sandbox games like Minecraft. Following this, the creator tests out *Chop Chop Together*, a chaotic local multiplayer party game centered around fishing, cooking, and delivering fish within a time limit. Players use physical controllers to simulate actions like casting lines, chopping fish, and placing them in boxes, with the added twist of a PvP mode where players can punch each other every fifth level. The experience is further enhanced by real-world interactions, such as purchasing stickers and keychains at the booth. Another notable title showcased is *Half Half Sword*, an action game featuring janky physics and dual-wielding mechanics that allow players to grab items with either hand, kick, and bash enemies with shields, creating a humorous and unpredictable combat style. The final two games presented are narrative-driven experiences with heavy thematic elements. *All Rise* is a courtroom simulation where players act as lawyers arguing for the legal personhood of a dying river against industrial pollution; the gameplay involves presenting evidence cards, managing credibility, and delivering emotional closing arguments to sway a judge in a high-stakes trial that could set a legal precedent. The last indie gem, *Renthine*, is a survival crafting game where players must manage sanity levels that drop over time and when changing zones, while also gathering resources like wood and fiber to craft tools and survive the night. This title features procedurally generated maps with handcrafted elements, knowledge gates for unlocking new recipes, and boss fights, offering a blend of exploration and resource management typical of modern indie survival games.

Yo, what's up everybody? We are back. It's Gamescom day two. Okay, it's officially it's day one, but for media it's day two. We're going to check out the indie games area. Okay, there's a lot of different indie developers that show up, little studios. Let's go check it out. Again, Gamescom is the biggest gaming convention in the world. We're in Cologne, Germany, and we're going to see tons of stuff. Indie Games. Let's see what indie games are here. It's Amaranth. She always has that horse mask on. I don't know if she still does that, but like years ago, she used to put on a horse mask and jump around. Oh, 18 plus. Oh, maybe it isn't RAM. Never mind. We're not going to look at that one. I'm trying to get a lay of the land. See something that catches my eye. They got a bunch of games here, chat. Let's take a look. Toon Turtle. Toon Turtle. Kandor. Art of cards. Card game. My girlfriend is a vampire. Yaguarete. Only fog remains. Is this weeb? Silent Hill. E Oh, frick. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Why is she Oh my gosh. She's going to get Oh, she's getting sucked. Okay. What is the health on the bottom left? Oh, I think if you get deeper into the fog, you choke out and die. Okay, cool. We've sat on the hill. Oh, this one looks interesting. >> Yeah. >> How's it going, man? >> Nice to meet you. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah, of course, man. >> Nice to meet you, man. >> Yeah, you too, man. Yeah, of course. >> When you play Coach F. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, man. >> Bro, so hilarious. >> Thanks, dude. I appreciate it. I appreciate it. Thanks, babe. We'll see you. Thank you. >> And then we had a hill clock for you set up. It's good. >> Yeah. >> Oh, this is the DLC. I mean, this looks like the best game here, I think. Cool. >> Best we played so far today. >> Best you played so far. >> Cool. All right. Well, have fun. This is Raw Talon. See a platformer. So, this is your game. >> Yes. >> Playing the Sylvester Project and we made it in three and a half months. >> Okay. >> And yeah, so there are a few bucks here and there. >> Is it just you or do you have like a team? >> H we were a team of nine people. like five people in the car team and then two master students made like lead positions. Um but I from the car team did the production management and the environment. >> Okay. >> Cool. >> I mean it's it's interesting cuz it's like like whenever I saw it I was like oh like this is intriguing. >> Yeah. Like we try to do every thing you did like as a child wax to escape >> and with that you have to solve puzzles. It's a time based approach because you're also made out of wax. >> Yeah. Oh, and see if you cut it off it falls. Okay. >> So, it's not like Minecraft. >> Okay. But it does ref. >> Oh, okay. Oh, here. >> See here. Is that quicksand? Oh, E. Wait, should I get like buffed? >> That's like you rebuild yourself because you melt down with time. >> And here is also like a respawn point. >> Like a checkpoint type thing. >> Yes. >> Cool. >> Okay. It looks like control. >> So control like makes my flame go down. Does that make me slow down? It it does slow everything down the same. Like obviously it's on shift that you can melt quicker but you also melt down quicker. But here it might be nice. >> And um if you press F it also goes down quicker. >> Oh. >> So then I already built here. So, how low can I go? >> Okay, that's low. >> Okay, >> so I respawn there, right? >> Chat, what do you guys think? You say you said three and a half months you guys have been working on it. >> Three and a half months or nearly four months. >> Mhm. >> Nice. >> We plan to put in here. >> Is it mostly puzzles or is it Are you going to have like enemies and stuff too? >> Here's the enemy. You're going to see him sing, but it's not a combat game. So, it's more like you have to go around him or like invite him into the puzzles, but it is a puzzle adventure. >> Okay. You don't have like a demo on Steam or anything, do you? >> Not Steam yet. We on Hio at the moment. >> Okay. Okay. So, here's the here's the enemy. >> Exactly. >> Yeah. Okay. >> All the fun games, >> right? Okay. So, what happens if he catches me? Let's I want to see what happens if he catches me first. Oh, okay. Oh, so it's a fire so it'll one shot you. Okay, >> nice. Someone in my chat says it'd be cool if like the character left like a trail of like footprints. >> Ah, we had that idea somewhere. >> And that might be good to be like, "Oh, yeah, that's where I came from." Chat, the game's called Wax and Wayne. It's on it.io. It's not on Steam. Here we go. Cool, chat. We did it. Yay. Cool. >> Thank you so much. >> Yeah, I know. That was cool. That was fun. >> Thanks, Wax and Wayne. >> Cool. Good stuff. All right. Thank you. Good luck. >> Yeah. Cool. That's fun. Hello. >> Do you want to try our game? >> Sure. What is it? >> Play with this actually. >> Oh, sick. >> So, let's do this. So, this party game. >> Okay. >> So, ch is a party game that we have three different shops in the game. First, this is for the fishing part. >> Okay. So I can't show you here. >> So you can uh hold this like a fishing rod. >> Okay. >> So you can move it this. >> Oh, the joysticks here. Okay. So I'll I'll hold it here. So check and see. >> Okay. Like this. >> Okay. >> So you can pick up items by clicking this one. So you can pick up pushing. Okay. You need to place a bit. We have two base stations on the middle on the top. Actually, you have to go from the stairs. >> I can help you to move out. So by clicking the button you can play speed paint >> or if you go near to edge and you can just throw the rope like do something. >> Oh no I throw it. >> Yeah. >> Oh sorry. It's really hard. >> Yeah. >> But now we have a fish catching again but don't >> Yeah. You have to get the fish. >> All right. I grab it. >> Okay. So, I go up here and then I I take it. >> Yeah. >> I flick it. >> Then spin the little bit harder. >> So, we have a fish now. >> Oh, okay. It gets So, instantly you get a fish. >> Yeah. Like it's >> kind of like overcooked. >> Yeah. Like And also you can chop a fish with this thing. >> Oh, and chop it too. >> Yeah. Like I didn't show you that. >> Okay. You can just hit it like if you think about yourself eating the fish. >> Okay. >> Like two more times. One more time. And it's another ch fish. >> Oh, okay. And I can pick it up. >> Yeah. So you can deliver it. I can easier. You can press this box by pressing the button. >> Wait, wait. What happened? >> The time run out or frick by 1 second. So like >> we have different kind of fishes in this level. So like you have to get a fishing rod first. >> Oh >> you know you run out of >> Right. Right. Okay. This controller is funny. >> You know what? You know what I think you should do though? I think you should take you know how you press with this pressing and moving with this. This happens >> if you add a a button on the back side. It's not really but like >> and we also have blacksmith and worker and we have a PVP mode that you can >> No, we just did PVP >> like you said but like every fifth level is a PVP level. So >> if you play really bad I I'm get mad at you. So like in PVP levels I can punch you all the time like because you can punch. >> Oh okay. So like you can try catching a fish again. Grab a fishing rod. Go to a base station. Press the button. Now go edge and flick the rope. >> The edge. Okay. And flicking. >> Yeah. Nice spin. >> And no matter what when you flick it, >> it's Yeah. Yeah. >> So now we have the fish here again. Maybe you can try chopping it again. Uh right here. This >> camera. You can grab the fish. >> I'm swimming. Okay, >> we can't do that again. >> All right, let's go here. >> Press the button. You can place it now again. I'm hitting the fish. Think about yourself. One more time. Okay, I think it's >> okay. >> Now to deliver it again. There is a boxes here. So you can pick up the fish. You can click on that. >> Can the box then deliver >> right here >> and deliver for this. >> This is fun. This is a good good idea. This is funny with the controller, too. Oh, yeah. The batter is nice. Cool. Sick. >> You can get stickers and keychains if you want. >> Oh, cool. I'll take a sticker. >> Okay. >> I'll read the newspaper. Sick. >> Thank you so much. >> Yeah. Thank you guys. What's the game called? >> It's Chop. >> Chop Chop together. Cool. Nice. >> Cool. All right. Thank you guys. >> Hey, how's it going? >> Do you remember our game from last year? Last drop. >> Uh, >> like the Finnish GTA. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I remember that. >> We released it last week. >> Oh, nice. It went first in Finnish sales. It's the most short game. >> Really nice. >> Yeah. Most streamed game in Finland. And because we remember you, do you want a CD key for Steam? >> Sure. >> So you can try it out. >> Cool. >> Just take a picture. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Remember to add me. So you can send me info and stuff about the game if you need to ask anything. >> Sure. >> Cool. Congrats. >> Yeah. Awesome. Good luck, guys. Yeah. Congrats, dude. Chad, I was in the bathroom. I was in the uh urinal and like there was a bunch of open stalls and somebody came to my left and somebody came to my right and trapped me in there. I was like, "Bro, what? There's all those freaking chickens." Okay, so what is this game? Half half sword. >> Played half sword before? >> I have not. >> You have not? What? What? See the controls? >> Uh sure. There's so much heat coming from somewhere. I don't know where it's the PC fans are going strong. Yeah. >> So you move with WD like you would now randomly. >> So when you click and hold the mouse button and you move your mouse, you move your respective arm. >> So yeah. >> Oh, okay. >> You can um you can grab with E or Q with either hand and with space bar you can kick. >> Okay. >> Good luck. >> Thank you. Okay. >> Okay. Next fight. >> Oh, wait. I dropped my stuff on accident. >> Now you you can pick it up again with uh with E. >> With the shield. >> Bash his head in with a shield. I get crouched with with >> I got hit him with a teaag. >> Sorry. >> Uh, nothing. >> Thank you. >> Oh, I got cracked in the face. >> You have been slain. Perish. I'm perishing. Wait, this is sick. Okay, wait. I won. Oh, wait. We killed each other at the same time and I and I uh he died like a second before me. Well, Habsor is pretty cool. It's got like a funny janky physics. Cool. Hoor. I'll check this out. Yeah, it's all Will Rise. >> All Rise. >> All Will Rise. Okay. What is this about? >> Game about taking billionaires to court for destroying the planet. >> Oh, it sounds like what streamers do for content these days. >> Sorry. >> Uh, no. I was making a joke. Okay. Um, You know the times now of the place. Shh. She's in the zone. >> What? Don't let me into my zone. That's what she calls it, the zone. Uh, I do not call her that. You two are not helping. Ignore them and continue. Continue in the zone. Time is now. The place is here. Let us let us. Damn it, Joy. Don't blame me for giving you constructive feedback. It's okay if you're nervous. Cut. >> Nervous. You said anything about nervous. Now you've done it, Shinto. Nervous. >> They both look tired. I'm afraid. But what are we going to do? We spent eight months convincing Missouri High Court that a river deserves the right of legal personhood. Make the river a legal person. >> Okay. If we win, we have new legal tools to protect the river. life returns to the river. If you lose, then everything stays the same and one day our dying river will be dead. It all comes down to closing arguments tomorrow. No pressure. You don't have time to explain all the reasons why this approach is better than the current current regulatory framework. You should focus on one claim that matches the emotion you're trying to convey to the court. Choose a claim to set which motion will use argument. Follow the science >> parts community guardianship. Guts is bold, charismatic, and disruptive. Power to prosecute. Let's do guts. Nice. That'll judge ego and sense of boldness. Shinuan's magnificently. Oh, that was like me just now. Oops. I think that that's our cue to get some rest. See you all tomorrow in court. Remember, all you have to do is win. Win no matter what. Okay. Serious high court in India. Final day of the trial. This case could set a legal precedent. Let the river protect itself. Like Joyce said, all I have to do is say it's win. When this court was assembled 8 months ago to decide the rate, the fate of the river Perry are attracted interest not only from our local community and press but nationally, even globally. Let me assure you that all the external pressures will have no impact on this court's judgment. I'll remind us of the fact that the river is in danger. Wait, so the cards are basically like legal like statements in the board >> like facts. >> Okay. Pay over choke of sewage and polluted danger to industrial chemicals. >> Flood of fertilizer. >> Industrial chemicals. Rivers health is in a precarious state. The causes of the situation. How protect the river's future. This is what we'll decide here today. >> Advocate present your closing argument. We need a daring approach. The rivers are in danger. Leads to life returns to the river. raise the judge's power to 40 seconds. >> Okay. >> So, army needs protection is like the the opening statement and then you go and it just kind like walks you through it here. >> So, you're saying this is what is the problem. >> This is the solution. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And then judge not around. Uh-huh. He's saying this is a different solution. Okay. Finding the pollute is a different solution. Obviously, I disagree. Okay. So, I need to argue against this or double down on this. But I'm sure argue against this comes later in the game. Okay. So, we must give the river a new farreaching powers to prosecute crimes. So, the river because it's a person can then prosecute somebody. We enforce existing regulations. So give our institution the capacity to push loans we currently have. >> So the problem is denial cards to negate low credibility claims. There's the denial card. If you have a claim of three diamonds or less, that's not enough credibility. So you can say, well, you should prove it on this. And then he has to prove it. He's like, a crap, I have to prove it. Objection sustained. Life returns to the river. Guts on fire. Okay. So, basically the whole time, chat, you're like it's it's like they're going back and forth in court. So, now that you did this, you have your argument, everything is set. You you've made all the judge bangs his gavvel into the set of silence. I'm ready to make my verdict. Each moat of dust in the air is inspired by the argument that the river should hold accountable. >> We commend advocate Curley's courage and ingenuity. Fire in the soul, double guts and impact of surrounding claims. Okay. >> Okay. So, we did it. >> River is a legal person. Yay. >> Cool. Cool. >> Okay. Smoke on the horizon. It's going to bright orange. Fire. Fire. A bomb. A dud. So the river is on fire. Okay. The river burns. Then reality takes a dead leap out of the water. Oil slick birds and pearl spot fish swimming amongst the horrified crowd. Can other people see them? Oil on the water. Cool. >> So, the whole So, the whole game is basically like playing through a story and you're doing the like the the gameplay loop is like story story court case. >> Yes. >> Okay, cool. >> I like the idea of like it's like you're taking like a court case and like you're it's like a card game, but it's not. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I think it's super good. Appreciate it. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I wanted to check the game out whenever uh >> Yeah. I think I just leave it out. >> Yeah. All right. Let's check out this game. Renthine. Should I do new game or should I continue? What? Yeah. >> Okay. Renthine. Yeah. Renthine is the name of this game, chat. I got a astrolab, simple pickaxe, simple axe. I need a crafting table, but I don't have any wood or any of this. So, I can't do anything there. I need to chop the wood first. I like the scarf. The scarf de needs a raise. The scarf is crazy. Okay, so now offer, offer, offer, offer, offer, offer, offer. How are they offer? Okay. Okay. So now here's what I know. Uh I grab the astrol lube and the astrolab. So I need two sticks to make an axe. So I'll craft this axe. I have it equipped. And then I use this axe. It's low quality to break the wood. So now I'm logging it up. Dropping some big logs. Okay. So I have four plant fiber. Okay. I have enough to craft a crafting table now. So, craft crafting table. I'll put it down here. Oh, that's not how it works. Right click it. Maybe I should Maybe I should put it back where like I came from. So, here's the problem. I got lost and I don't know how to get back. Okay. Okay. Wait. Okay. So, you can't see because your your your sanity is dropping. Oh, and it's night. Run, run, run, run, run, run, run. I'm so lost. >> Does it ever go down anymore? Like, once you're at zero, you're at zero. Like, when do I actually die? Okay, it's daytime. >> Oh my gosh, we found it. Oh my gosh. Wait, can I not use this anymore? >> Oh, it like slowly gives it BACK TO YOU. OH, OKAY. SO, HERE. Crafting table. Craft. Put this here for now. And what else can we craft? We can make more twine, wood planks. Somebody might even find a friend in this. I got a friend. Oh. Oh, I'm hungry. I'm hungry. I need food. I'm going to run out of food. Frick chat. I'm dead. Okay, so you go through I mean it's like a survival game where you're going through you have the sanity meter that over time your sanity keeps dropping and each time you change zones you take a big chunk of sanity hit. You have the survival craft stuff. Yeah. The game's called Renthine. It's a QR code for it. Do you find more recipes while you're crafting as well or do you just get them from exploring? >> Exploring. >> Okay. >> But like will you will you unlock things from crafting though? Like will you like learn new recipes while crafting something else? >> Yeah, there's that too. >> Oh, okay. >> But there's on the left when you open the crafting table, uh there's I think you were just on like the basic resources tab. There's also like a tools tab and exploration tab and so on. >> And it has a bunch of stuff in it too. >> Okay. >> Um I think we probably got to make that more obvious. We're still working on a lot of clarity in our game. >> Yeah. I feel like anything with that a lot of times it comes down to just like somebody other than us needs to play the game because cuz when you make a game like you just don't see the game the same way that somebody who's never seen it before does. So I think that's pretty normal. I like this. It's good bones. Yeah. Yeah. I mean that's a lot of what these games are when you come to the indie section. It's like the games have like uh it's like the framework the general idea of the game like where where it's at. Yeah. I think this one looks pretty good too actually. >> Are all the levels like procedurally generated? >> Yeah. This first room is mostly handcrafted. Uh, and there is some other like handcrafted rooms you might find. Like there's a lot of puzzles and there's like boss fights and um there different kinds of rooms you might find that you wouldn't find in your first play through, >> right? >> It's a lot of knowledge gate I'd say. >> Okay. >> This this is a map of Gamescom but in our art style. >> Oh, nice. >> And pin. >> Cool. >> The crystal glows. >> Nice. >> A keychain >> of course a sticker. >> Sick. Cool. Like I said, I think this is looking pretty good. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Check out their uh their Steam page and their Discord there. No, I haven't demo yet, but they do uh play tests on Discord, so maybe you guys want to check it out sometime. >> It's pretty good. We saw a lot of good indie games today. Cool. Thanks so much. >> Yeah. No, for sure. That was sick. That was That was great, actually.
