Video summary
The video presents a detailed review of the "Hulk" character rig, created by Firelight and Lupin House as part of an ongoing contest. This collaboration offers a highly versatile tool featuring advanced muscle options, cool textures, and extensive deformation capabilities demonstrated in their test animations. The reviewer notes that while there are currently 25 days remaining for the contest entry deadline, users should be aware of potential technical hurdles when referencing the rig file; specifically, texture paths may fail to load on some systems without manual adjustments or clearing cache files, though these issues can often be resolved with a few tweaks in Windows settings.
Once referenced and configured correctly, the rig provides an impressive array of controllers for both body and face animation. The reviewer highlights specific features such as separate controls for breathing mechanics including belly movement, detailed muscle jiggle effects on traps and deltoids, and sophisticated foot/leg IK systems that allow for complex actions like rolling ankles or banking feet without losing volume. A standout feature mentioned is the "follow leg" option which allows a limb to track another while maintaining independent IK control, alongside auto-squash settings that preserve character volume during stretching movements.
The facial system receives particular praise for its granularity and depth of functionality. Users gain access to individual controls for jaw movement, Adam's apple translation, lip rolls, cheek inflation, nose shape adjustments, and intricate brow sliders. The eye system includes separate iris, pupil, and eyelid controls with options to decouple eye rotation from head movement, ensuring naturalistic animation styles. Additionally, the rig supports inverse spine mechanics that allow characters to hold poses while reversing their spinal orientation without awkward counter-rotations, a feature deemed essential for professional workflows.
Despite its robust capabilities, the reviewer points out minor limitations such as the lack of direct geometry selection options on main controllers and some inconsistent behavior with specific attributes like curling or scaling in certain areas which may vary by user setup. Overall, the Hulk rig is described as lightweight yet incredibly detailed, making it an excellent choice for animators seeking high-fidelity muscle deformation and facial expressiveness. The video concludes by encouraging viewers to explore the creator's website for more rigs and demos while directing any specific technical questions back to Firelight and Lupin House rather than the reviewer himself.

welcome back to another rig review and
today we're taking a look at this Hulk
rig it's actually part of a contest and
this is by fire light and loping house
this is a collaboration go on their
website I'll put the link in description
of course you can see the rig in action
here very cool cool textures muscle
options and everything I will go into
that in a second the contest is open for
25 more days you can see a little demo
of what is going on which I will show
you as well and that is the jury I will
of course also post a link on my
animation B website which is a site
where I collect Rigs and you can see
different loopin house rigs I have Pro
rigs I have a bunch of stuff here from
other people all over the web this goes
on and on and on so if you have anything
that you want me to review or take a
look at send me an email and this is the
rig in all of its Glory you can see here
all the controllers now before you do
anything go through the read get all the
instructions there I did open this in 22
at first not 23 because I did not read
the read me as you're supposed to this
is what happens so if you have this and
it looks funky that is why this is what
it's supposed to look like that being
said it also says to reference the rig
now when I reference the rig uh the
texture just never worked I usually go
into Windows you go General editors and
you have the file path editor that works
for me here but even then you have to
change a few things everying now and
then for me I have to delete this whole
thing keep it empty read path of course
there's an error then close it reopen it
again and then it works but when I
reference the file it unfortunately
never worked the textures so watch out
for that now when you don't reference it
in the rig is this big by this big I
mean if you create a cube next to it you
can see how tiny this is and then if you
actually reference it of course it goes
all the way down here just check out
what you can do on your
but I'm going to continue without a
reference file now when you do have all
of this though and you follow the all
the instructions you get a picker for
your body and the face so of course
depending on if you reference it or not
you're going to have to go into edits
and change your name space so for me it
was actually not like this I had to
empty it and delete that and hit okay so
when you do that you get for instance
here right you get your browse whatever
you want to have here this you get the
head chest all that stuff this is all
great I love having Pickers I wouldn't
want to animate without any Pickers and
you also get this here bunch of stuff in
terms of blinks this unfortunately did
not work so if I want to use this it
gave me an error but only that so if I
use for instance let's go back here the
blink that worked and everything else
works as well so if I've place it back
and let's say you want this pose it's
all cool it all works of course and you
can do whatever you want here right you
got awesome poses this I love this here
contact poses which is great but
anything you want to do right you got
Doctor Strange poses and you can combine
that to this phas those feet here right
select these guys and so on all this
works like a charm unfortunately the
breathing did not work for me but again
you might install this and it's totally
fine but let's go back to here the other
thing so when you select the main
controller you have all those options
here you can of course move the rig
around it's fairly light I have an older
computer by now but it's seems pretty
cool that's your global scale here right
so if you want to do anything you do it
like that there's no scale option
through here so if you do this it won't
work you have your controller visibility
All That Jazz also separately close on
or off you got your abs you got
breathing like this which is cool you
got belly breathing like that you have
deltoids I'm going to go with the around
just we go them right here left of
course as well and neck tension as well
that's all very cool what I'm not seeing
here unfortunately is anything where you
can select your geometry usually on the
main controller you would have an option
that says you know referenced or not or
so you have to go into the uh outliner
to select the geometry sometimes this
has nice texture it's not that I want to
change anything here but every now and
then for other rigs I don't know like I
want to tweak things at different colors
like whatever I want to do and that is
not here I don't see there's any
controllers I didn't see it anywhere
else unfortunately but uh if you if you
find it if you know I'm sure I missed it
somewhere uh let me know but anyway
that's your main control you have
another one and for me this is always
especially with Hulk if you go with the
angly version that drums really far I
would bring this all the way down here
to create a different pivot so if you
select this here now you can move him
and it moves like that for a we for a
Superman
style controller pivot point now let's
go to the feet you have your main
controller here so you can move that guy
like this what I always like to check is
if you bring it up and then you move
this around you can see the knee does
not follow so for that you have this
here but let's go back one by one but
there are a ton of controls it's a very
very detailed work which is very cool so
this here you got your foot leg roll
this goes pretty far all the way back
this is nice you have a foot leg break
angle so if you go like that that
changes where this happens F leg release
angle as well so do a different point
here you have your tilt on the side
sometimes that's called banking tip roll
right from this angle here and then you
have a tip slide then you have a mid
roll like that a mid slide heal
roll and heel slide you also have a
follow leg so if you turn that on and if
you select the root then you're going to
have
the leg that follows like this while
still having an ik option which is
actually very cool I've never seen this
before not that I've extensive knowledge
of all the rigs but anyway I like this
it's cool option I always like having
more options on rigs now if you go back
here you got your ik FK so if you do
like that of course you have your
standard FK you know how all of this
works then if you have Auto squashed so
if I take this and I pull you can see
how it starts to stretch things but if
you go like this it will not do that it
will retain the
volume and you have extra Shapers here
to do a bunch of stuff right so you can
move this here move this here and so on
and so on now just checking does not
quite scale no maybe now then actually
check with this no scope no now if you
go here you have a pin leg it's also a
classic thing when you're on your knees
that's great follow spine button and
follow leg ik so there are a bunch of
options Sometimes some people would also
like a so if you do this and that to not
have to use this but actually have a
control in here that says whatever
whatever the name is spin KN whatever uh
that would do this without a controller
but through the channels I'm a fan of
that as well to be honest so it would be
kind of cool to have that option then if
you go here you can of course move all
the fingers this is for your all the way
back here control of course here and so
on can you scale no but you can do that
you have an extra control to do this of
course and that is that on this side of
course left and right is going to be the
same thing then as you go up this is
your root controller not this so with
this you have your visibility for
inverse spine it's a bit small here let
me show you there you go so you have
that opt
so if we select
this you can have it like that so if he
is holding on from somewhere then you
can reverse your spine like this instead
of having to do this and then counter
from a different piver point which I
love this is awesome every Rick should
have
that it's going to turn into some weird
wish list then of course you have these
guys to you can't rotate but you can
translate can you scale no this is
locked as you can see here or not
available
then you have a controller here in the
middle so this is your spine like this
as I said here this is your hip like
that this is still on follow can see
what the leg is doing here then same
thing here so you can move it like this
you can also shape it like that while
here you have your regular spine
controller and always check channels
there's nothing here sometimes I forget
to check channels this goes all the way
up to here
and then you have a spine squash so if
you do like that you can see how it
stretches and then if you do this it
does
not then here you have for muscle jiggle
you can see these all
around traps everywhere that's very cool
especially on something like this like
you know like a muscular character you
want to have some muscle jiggle that's
very cool then you have from here you
got really nice deformation too so this
is your clavicle that you can rotate and
translate you can go up here whoops
there you go for this arm like
that you can take these this is in FK
mode for now there's also stretch option
so as always you can turn this on and
off follow arm rotation so this has so
many separate options stretch as well
it's really really cool now if you want
to change all this of course you can go
here and now you have your your ik
version here now follow arm turn this on
same thing I'm going to take that and
then it follows the arm I'm a big fan of
this so you don't have like a sticky ik
the usual now that being said if you do
this right this is your your ik arm you
have the hand arm rolls it kind of
functions almost like a foot I've seen
other rigs do that same ideas here right
you got to tilt and all that roll it
still says heel slide instead of
whatever Palm or whatever you want to
call it so you can tell that is still
part of the foot rake but it's a cool
option to have but what I would say 99%
of the rigs don't have is and I've
always referenced thex and rig for that
if you do this your ik hand behaves
obviously like an ik hand but if you do
this and I mentioning this because a lot
of students that I have in my classes
they struggle with this they use FK uh
they use ik and they do this but they
don't
rotate the hand with it so it looks like
an FK hand so a big FL for ik arms is
that if you move that around a you won't
have arcs because you you know go
straight like that it's not like a joint
where you have a free Arc but also the
angle of hand stays the same so when
they lift a hand they as in students it
looks like this it doesn't look like if
I go back here right so if I lift an arm
like this you can see how the wrist
stays aligned so I would love for any ik
arm options for uh let's go back here
when you move your ik hands that if you
do this that it actually behaves like an
FK rest that is always on my wish list
and I will forever mention the other rig
but anyway you got the same here as with
the feet right you can select your
fingers you can do it like this
obviously you have a picker for all of
this as well but this is for the manual
version now anything in the back these
are the same by the way can see this
here now the face there is a bunch of
stuff here which is very cool let's go
with this one first so as always follow
spine top route all those follow options
are great this is going to do this if
you rotate and that if you
translate then it's go here you have
your rotation like that obviously you
can trans it like this now you have the
neck squash right so if I take this and
it does that you can say AR and a back
and then follow neck and follow neck
here rotation and position as well that
is the job but let's go quickly just
because it's s here this is your chin or
mouth squash and stretch I love stuff
like that you got the same thing
here for your
head then if I go here this is your jaw
and if I go here you can see here this
is your chin we not squat and stretch
but that's your chin there's another one
down here where you have your Adam's
Apple go from the
side you have that or any kind of a
follow or a swallow and then you can see
this here you can push this or not
that's cool then let's go in here so you
have your lip control so you can of
course translate and rotate there is a
lip roll option so whenever you have
most rigs when you select anything on
the side here right anything sometimes
it's just this so you have that for kind
of tweakers to to tweaker shapes same
with this select this guy it does what
it needs to do but sometimes times when
you select other rigs or other
controllers here right I'm moving this
around then you can see oh there's a
follow jaw There's a sticky right you
can turn this on and off so it's not
that sticky sometimes you have like a
lip zip function depending on what you
have here so this has your lip roll so
always pay attention to any type of
controllers that you might miss some
cool functionality that is in the uh the
attributes over there in the Chan
control that is going to be your overall
mouth control and with that we can see
here the teeth of course you have have
your tongue controls back there you can
see that all the way back there that
will select
everything uh there's actually see right
there there's a curl
option oh where is it
here uh not doing anything for me right
now okay that might be you can always
imagine use the eror on my end I'm not
sure then we can go all the way up to
here so here you go got your upper lip
function here if we go to the sides
again you got your you can see how far
you can go with the smile option you got
your cheeks so either you do it like
this or you have the inflate option
which is cool goes pretty far I like it
let's go up here you have your nose tip
like that there's a select rotate option
like this you have your overall nose
that you can do like this actually
there's a scale option on this one if
you want and then you got here for the
base and there is a wrinkle option
that's
cool lots of options this goes more into
the brow area but you got this here in
the middle let's go quickly nostrils
like this you have a nose hole that is
that for a flare option let me let me
continue here why not I was already
there so that's your inner brow of
course you got separate controls all the
way if you want to move everything
obviously you have everything like that
the pivot there's no pivot there's no
trans uh rotate so it's from here just
going to say the pivot is from the side
you have this here and then this goes
into
now close feet you can see here we can
push out even more so the facial
controls are really detailed which is
very cool same thing here right you got
your cheek here all the way down to this
guy in the middle you have a follow
cheek option here and you can go here
all the way but let's go here so this is
your main eye control so you can move it
like that you have in here Iris you can
see the change here pupil of course and
squash it's all neat and you have the
eyelid follow of course this here you
got your lid can you rotate yeah you can
tweak that and of course you have all
those options to shape and reshape for
really intricate uh detail in the uhing
for blinks and and all that stuff it's
very cool of course always check your uh
options but For Eyes Of course also have
this here so that's your main eye
movement option so like this can see
this here also follow ahead so if I say
don't follow the head and if I now move
my head the eyes are staying put which
is more the way I animated it but it
really all depends on on the actions and
of course you have a separate control
here for eyes to move separately ears
let's not
forget you got that here and that is
mainly it uh there is an eye highlight
through the textures there's nothing
like cartoony where you have an eye
highlight in here um that's pretty much
it it seems like there are no hair
controls it has a bit of a um uh little
strand here if I go up here this is just
the squash and stretch
now you want to go in here and of course
you can expand this and then zoom
in there you go so you can see this here
right all face brows nose and lips lower
face head squash these are all the
options just in case tongue jaw throat
head squash teeth of course hit that for
reframe that's all standard stuff and
there you
go that is your character very very very
cool nice textures very detailed and for
sure go on the website you'll see all
the like the test animation is really
cool it gives you really a lot of
options for squash and stretch and it
seems like a fairly light rig as well
and that is it so any questions as
always send them to the Creator not me
because I will know less than they do as
a nice little fade as he gets angry he
still has time for a very trendy haircut
and that's it for me thanks for watching
feel free to check out my channel check
out my animation P for more Rigs of
course check out the contest and again
go on here it's very very cool look at
that that was great timing to see what
the textures were doing and keep
watching this might have just an
animation think that's it with the
credits but no you can see all the
controllers in action but at the same
time here you got a lot of Demos in
terms of what the face can do and the
muscles so it's a really cool demo of
the deformations and the options so it's
it's a very very versatile Rak it's very
cool can't wait to see people's
animation and that's it from me feel
free to check out my uh my channel of
course if you want to and check out the
animation weite for more rigs if you
need any other Rigs and that's it from
me thank you for watching
