How YOU Can Help The 1878s Make Everton's Atmosphere Better!

Video summary

The video features a discussion with Barry Williams of Evans 1878 regarding a special initiative to enhance the atmosphere at Everton's new stadium for the upcoming season opener against Crystal Palace. The core of this proposal is an offer from the club and sponsor Adam Hack, which encourages fans to enter the ground early, specifically between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, rather than waiting until kickoff. To support this effort financially, a portion of the revenue from every pint of beer sold during this early window will be donated directly to Evans 1878. This funding is intended to cover significant costs associated with creating visual displays, such as the massive new flags that will span the entire width of the stands, which are essential for replicating the vibrant European-style atmosphere seen in other top leagues. Beyond the financial incentives, the initiative aims to transform the stadium into a true home by fostering a deep connection between the players and the supporters. The hosts emphasize that without active fan participation, such as waving flags from designated seats or helping with setup, the desired environment cannot be achieved. They highlight that while the physical infrastructure is impressive, the "mythical atmosphere" relies on noise and visual spectacle to motivate players and influence match outcomes. The conversation points out that even in games where Everton lost, the electric energy generated by a full, engaged crowd provided an unforgettable experience for both fans and players, suggesting that building this culture could lead to future victories and a stronger sense of belonging for all supporters. To further engage the community, Evans 1878 has launched a raffle competition where participants can win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stand next to a new player in the official team photo. This prize serves as an additional incentive for fans to attend the match day activities and support the cause. Additionally, the group is seeking volunteers who are willing to take time off work to help dress the stadium and manage displays, noting that these efforts are entirely unpaid and driven by passion. The hosts also mention that a monthly donation link has been set up for those who prefer to contribute regularly, ensuring that the organization can sustain its operations throughout the season and beyond. Ultimately, the goal is to establish a sustainable model where fans feel they are getting value for their money while simultaneously contributing to a greater cause. By entering early, buying a drink, and participating in the displays, supporters help raise funds that allow Evans 1878 to expand its operations, potentially doubling or tripling the number of flags used by the end of the season. The hosts express hope that if this initial push is successful, it will set a precedent for the entire season, creating a legacy where every fan feels like they are part of something special. They invite anyone with ideas or skills to get in touch via social media or email, reinforcing the message that the success of the stadium's atmosphere depends on the collective effort of the entire fanbase working together to make Goodison Park feel truly like home.

Welcome to Toffee TV. I'm delighted to say I'm joined in the studio by Barry Williams who's part of Evans 1878. And we're here to talk about something that is >> quite quite a big thing, isn't it? Quite a big thing for the start of the new season. We've got >> Crystal Palace at home. Saturday, the Premier League kicks off this weekend. And the 1878 have got an offer on with the club, which is fantastic. And that is go on you tell them rather than me. Come on. >> So basically Adam Hack and the club have agreed to if you go in the ground at 1:00 not on the plaza have to be in the stadium >> from 1:00 for the first 45 minutes. So quart to 2. >> Mhm. >> If you buy a pint of blood then which is only 450 by the way and to be honest like that's that's good value. >> Yeah. Like >> £450 for a pint of I don't think anyone's knocking it. >> Yeah. For every pint that is sold, we'll get 50p out of it. All right, that might not seem a lot, but if 10% of the ground go in and buy one point, >> yeah, >> that's 2 and a half grand. >> And just to put that into context, >> we've got a new flag out on Saturday that is 4 m high >> and 25 m wide. >> Okay, >> the poles for that alone have cost 1,200 quid. >> So, okay. >> And and I think that's the side that people don't see. Like it's a lot. All right. The flags do cost money, but it's all the post that come with it. So, stuff like that it will cover. Yeah. So, like, >> you know, and we've got it for three games. We've got it for Sati, Man United, and I switch. It'll be the same same again soon as the turn styles open first 45 minutes. >> You know, if if people were to go in and play on Saturday at half one >> by four points, >> that takes you to half two. >> Yeah. Yeah. If again it takes you to >> takes me to hospital. >> If if that happens and 10% to the ground do that that's 10 grand. >> Yeah. >> And 10 grand >> you know that'll >> that'll stretch a long way. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> And then obviously at R2 we are we are asking people to go in the seats and >> Okay. >> You know sort of take the atmosphere from the concourse. >> Yeah. >> Straight onto the south stand you know and all around the ground to be fair. Mhm. >> Uh there'll be flags in the lower and upper, >> right? >> And then obviously the new flag that >> that will be shown. So >> it will be the some of the rows on the lower like it it is a big flag. It's massive. Like you've probably seen it like the likes of Newcastle. >> Okay. >> Like where it goes right across like the main end. It's like that and it'll be in the upper and lower. So So it will be quite big. >> Yeah. Um, you know, it's something that we've we've tried to do, but as we've said, we've not really had the money to do it. Yeah. >> Which is >> why Aramark and and the club have come to us and said, "Yeah, there's a deal for you." Hopefully that raises a bit of money for you. >> Yeah. >> You know, we've got we've got a competition out at the minute. So, like, and that's that's live on the website and that's like a money can't buy prize. You've got literally you win a place on the team photo. So imagine you stood next to the new right back [laughter] >> like you can be >> imagine first person to say I'm next to the new right back and it's a Fiverr like you know it's it's a it's a raffle. It's not not an auction cuz you know that's the first fair way to do it. >> So like >> we we've got loads out at the minute. This all part of raising Saturday's money for the >> you know you've seen it yourself but the last season at Goodison. >> Yeah. >> So I'll put it again into context. So you know the to that we had in the park end so all the cards. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> To do that in the south stand >> is triple the amount. >> So it was between 3 and 5,000 at >> in the just the park end. >> Wow. to do that in the south. So that >> that alone was about 40 odd grand to do >> is it? Yeah. >> So and that that was like the TO >> and then obviously the cards behind it. >> I mean that is it's a obviously that picture the image you know on the banks of the Royal Blue Mary and all that absolutely fantastic wasn't it? Um and it is these things are you know we're all you just come back from Germany but obviously being we've watched footy in Germany and everything they do it probably as good as anywhere in Europe really don't they a lot of this stuff is key and I think the 1878's been fantastic since they they took this up and had to suffer some criticism of copite behavior and all that nonsense but >> I mean if copite behavior is winning things we'll have a bit of >> so they've done a brilliant use They've done a absolutely fantastic job. All volunteers, by the way. No one's job. People take time off work to dress the stadium and all of that. This is immense what we've seen, you know, and the one at the derby was amazing. It's just that it's the derby and it didn't work out. But if it would have worked out, it been one that we would have we would have, you know, and hopefully there'll be more CO and stuff, but all of that comes with money. >> We've got one. >> We've got one booked in one more. >> We're in we're in a deal. >> Well, club events is a deal with the company who done that one, >> right? Yeah, you know, so we signed a well the club signed like a three a three deal. >> Okay. >> So we've got one there >> but >> well what before you what is the plans with the to we've got one more then will there be an opportunity for more going forward >> like we're we're in discussions with the club and obviously once once this one finishes we'll then >> say we'll get around the table and say right are we going to do it again? Are we going to attack it by a different angle? >> Okay. you know our ideal scenario if we do something like that >> in a in a quarterfinal I know >> to get to get us to Wembley or if we do it in the League Cup semi-final I know that's what we want to do it for >> but but it's everything else isn't it because I think I think there was a lot you know what this is again >> I always felt like we missed the sick the Sunderland game at home >> because it was Sheamus's thing and all that and I think once you if we can as a fan base create a pot of money where it's easier for for you as a fan group. Is that what is that the right way to call you? As a fan group to go, yeah, actually we've got money. We're able to do it for this game, this game, this game. It does help with the atmosphere. We seen that Chelsea game is unbelievable when there was a coach welcome and all of this stuff. So, >> I think this is a really good sort of way incentive. I think for people who are going to have a bevy at the game, people like to the first game of the season. Hopefully it'll the weather will be nice and you might want to go and have a pint. Like you said, 450 is a quite a competitive price for a for a pint. And if you're going to go in and have a point, get yourself there on and >> yeah, effectively you could you could go in at 20 to2 and just buy all your then if you don't want to you know if you don't want to go in at 1:00 like >> but I think people go in at half one and >> there is more places to put your pints now because I've put stuff in there is more finally there's more places to put your pints down in the ground and so I noticed that on Saturday against Le and if you are someone who goes and has a couple of beers before the game. Yeah. Get in and and does help. It helps with everything, doesn't it? >> Yeah. Yeah. No, like don't get me wrong like this this isn't the only thing that we'll do to fund raise all year. >> Like last year the club where the club to be the club unique where we're we're good with us. So like Uni donated like hospitality tickets to us. >> Yeah. It's very funny. >> The club give us like breakfast at French farm with with Sheamus which again once in a lifetime. >> Was that like a raffle thing? like we' never auction anything cuz obviously a raffle >> and for a f >> you know they've the club would give us all sorts of prizes to raffle off which we've done you know and they've said that they'll do that going forward so >> like there'll be other there'll be other chances to like win stuff >> like on the website >> you know people again have been asking for us for like a monthly donation link and that's something that we've set up literally say that live now. >> We've literally set it up this week. So, >> brilliant. >> You can donate any any monthly amount up to up to 50. Like we're not we're not expecting anything. We have to put a limit on it. >> Cool. >> You know, the donation link again for a one-off donation that's that's open like and that that'll continue to be open >> like it's it's more >> We'll put that link in the description here by the way if anyone just wants to do that as well. >> Yeah. No, it's but it's it's more it's for stuff like that. Like it's >> Yeah. >> You know, cuz in 10, 20 years, >> they're going to be the the images that people look at and be like, >> look, >> I I want to go there. Like, I'm not saying it'll happen, but a player might go, I've seen what they do. >> Yeah. >> And like I've seen what the fans do there, >> you know, cuz to be honest, mate, without the fans, it doesn't happen. >> No, >> the the fans are the fans are brilliant with it. >> Yeah. like they they've took it on board, you know, like >> you're talking about just the people who the match go there, you know, you look at the Southand there, >> no one there has to hold >> them or whatever. So without them, it doesn't happen. So again, we are asking on Saturday if there is a flag on your seat, then wave it. If not, just pass it to someone who doesn't and then and then once kickoff, just put it under your seat and and the staff will come and get it. >> Please don't take them home. Yeah, that's yeah, >> we've seen loads. Please don't take they're not things for you to take home. Um, you know that this is all part of the displays and everything. And obviously it will stuff be used again. Is that the the thing? So that's that's the thing is that if >> if it the temptation might be aren't saying their own but you you're sort of going against future displays and everything and we want this to be a thing whereas >> like you've said players it sticks in players minds these kind of images these things even the ones who are there now look at our fans you know they're amazing and want to give that extra little bit for it and >> yeah you know that what we put on gives the players that extra 10%. Well, it gives the crowd something, doesn't it? We've seen in these games now, you know, the crowd can be unbelievable and make such a big difference, don't >> listen, sometimes the players don't always get over the line in it. You know, that game from the Arsenal game, isn't it? And, you know, we lost to a penalty, >> you know, we were denied a penalty in the second half, which we, you know, but they were Arsenal were flying at that time and that we matched them that night. >> Liverpool was a injury time winner. you know, we don't lose brand and we don't lose better. Who knows, we might go on and win the game. So, it does make a difference. We seen the crowd, like I said before, with Chelsea and stuff. So, Brighton, there was a a great thing at Brighton, wasn't it? The third game of the season and it it started our whole journey at that stadium winning. >> So, the the fans have made and we do want to make it more >> like our home. >> Yeah, it's don't we that's what you want. But like but like it's not we was we we've been saying ourselves like we don't want it just to be us that comes up with ideas. >> So like we >> you know we're we're open to any idea you know [clears throat] like there's probably hundreds of designers out there but >> you know whatever fans >> who might have an idea >> and they might send it and we'll go yeah you know what we'll have done. >> That's good that so like if anyone has got any ideas >> where do they get in touch then? So you can get on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and it's literally just the 1878. So obviously we've got the website as well. >> Yeah. >> Uh we're in the process of changing the email address so it's easy to contact us. So once that's live, we'll put that out. >> But if anyone does have any ideas, then literally just contact us. >> Yeah. >> Like the more ideas the better >> and then obviously with sati if we can get a final push for volunteers. >> Okay. >> No. To >> just to help with with the big flags. So you like you can see a few of them. >> Yeah. >> No, if we can get a get a couple more people to help us >> then, >> you know, >> it would it would look >> it look better than than that hopefully. Uh at the minute we've got 400 flags and I know that that probably seems a lot, >> but by the end of this season, we want to double treble that >> really >> because they would they wouldn't fill they wouldn't fill the whole stand. That's >> like you'd have seen her at Liverpool >> when the they were in the corner. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> So that was every flag was out and that was that was in the corner >> in the corner. >> So >> you know if we can if this dealer kicks off on Monday on Saturday >> it kicks off on Saturday >> and that and it goes well then who's to say won't continue it all season. >> Yeah. you know, and if that's the case, then there's no ends to what we can do in there. >> And I suppose the good thing with that as well, and a little bit of a different thing with that as well, is people are getting something for it is it's not they're not just donations are f and if you can donate absolutely outstanding, but for people who are buying something that they're going to buy anyway. >> Yeah. >> Antifa problem. Well, it is, you know, it's competitive. Let's say that way. If you're having a pint that price, you're getting something anyway that you're going to buy. and the 1878 are getting a donation from it. So, it's that's a great way of doing it, isn't it? >> You know, like I think the ideal scenario is everyone everyone goes well, not everyone, but >> well, everyone, but not everyone's going to go in, but if if a lot of people go in >> and buy four points, >> you're potentially looking at like 10 grand. And 10 grand would would do a lot >> to be fair to us. >> Yeah. Yeah. you know, so and if it if making money out of it, then >> they'll probably go, you know what, this is working. >> Yeah. >> We'll we'll leave it with them all season. >> I mean, that would be great. And we we want it Listen, we want it to be a place where people come and and want to experience that. Whether you're a I know people don't like this phrase, but if you're a day tripper or or you're an away fan, you want to see what they're doing. But us as Edonians, yeah, that's what >> you know, there was a phrase, wasn't it? We go the match. That's what we do and all that that the club, you know, latched on to years ago. But that's what we want this to become, don't we? >> Yeah. You want you want to make it feel like home. >> You go home. This is this is Yeah. This is what we do here. This is our stadium. This is what we do. And hopefully that'll transcend onto the pitch and we'll actually win some bleeding known games, you know, more than we have to touch wood. >> That would be nice. No, but that it's all part of it, B, isn't it? You know, we've >> it becomes a thing whether we like it or not. They are noisy neighbors. They've got this mythical atmosphere, but it's built on flags and it's built on those European nights and the noise and all that. Well, we we want it to be a thing where it's us and people go, "Ever there ground's horrible." Or, "What a place that is to play football or you said it before and players do whether people think it or not, players do look at at clubs and stadiums and go, I want a piece of that. I want to go and play there." >> Yeah. like you know to give you an example. So when when >> you all got his flag >> Yeah. >> like he's seen it and he's like I made up with it. >> Yeah. >> Like hopefully he might go that extra mile for 11 of >> course >> you know and the connection if you can get that with with the 11 players on the pitch you know that's you're surely on to a winner there aren't you? So >> if you can build the deep connections with players who who want to perform, want to do that little bit extra and they drive everybody else on around them. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> We're all we all want the same. We all walk through them gates wanting the same thing. That's evident to play. We want to go in and experience a fantastic atmosphere and everything win and we get to celebrate goals, don't we? That's all we want when we go to the game. We've all gone to there last season >> and gone. We've won not loads but we've won a game and gone right that and then there's games where you come out and gone the atmosphere there was unbelievable like even even the United game when we got beat that night there was a turn that was like that's what it should be like and we lost the game and we shouldn't have done what we did and then Chelsea was electric it was unbelievable 30 3-1 I know 4 seconds later be Harland score but when it went 3-1 that night was was berserk even 2-1 when he got By the way, it was a pop. >> It felt Yeah. And it felt a bit like Good Gish's winner against Palace cuz it was injury time. It the noise was like we needed that moment. Well, we want that all the time, don't we? If if we can go in on Saturday >> and start it from from 1:00. >> Yeah. >> Really? >> And carry it right through. >> Yeah. >> Then >> if if we can get it to pop straight away before kickoff, >> then who knows, >> you know, then >> if the crowd like the crowd will do their bit because, you know, the crowd are brilliant. >> Yeah. Then it's down to the players then. Hopefully the players react to the react to the crowd. >> They will, won't they? I remember just before we filmed him when we interviewed Kan all he was talking to me. He went you can feel it and s was talking about the difference of goodness and he was like it's so loud here when they start here. He went it's your hair is just >> straight away when we are noisy and and we've both just talked before about German football. they can they can sort of have a pint in the seats as well, but their atmosphere does start on the concourse and they just take it forward to the game and therefore the grounds bouncing when their teams come out and that's what I think that's what we want. We all want to come out of there on Saturday at 5:00. That's it. >> The way referees are 10 past 5 with us and be bouncing on that plaza going, "Oh my god, what a win. What a performance." But what an atmosphere, don't we? That's what that's the sort of the dream, isn't it? What >> No, that's that's exactly what it is. Hopefully you'll get a big donation as well from it. >> Yeah. No, like I said, if if it does if it does kick off like if it does take off >> then, you know, there's probably touchwood, we probably got it all season. Obviously, it's down to the club and of course if it works for them, >> put pressure on them by doing it. >> Works for us. >> Yeah. >> The the other thing as well just before we finish, it's a brilliant prize what you just mentioned then. There is this is an opportunity. It's a raffle. So you buy your raffle ticket, but it's an opportunity to be on editing first scene photo like B said hopefully sat next to the new light back that we shine. Um, and that's a that's an unbelievable thing. Imagine winning that and that's your you know if you've got kids or whatever but that's your opportunity on the team photo something you'll treasure for sort of the rest of your life. So how do how do people buy those if it's best >> literally you can so it's it's the pin tweet on Twitter. Oh okay. You know, it's it's also on the website, which the website link is in the bio on Twitter. >> What about like Instagram and stuff? Is that >> it's on all of them. So, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter. It might be on Tik Tok as well. >> Uh that's that's >> surely that's you. That's above my >> That's your above my like >> like I I can't work that. But if you go on the website and then in the top left corner the three lines >> competitions and it's the only competition live at the minute that closes I think we're looking >> towards the end of the month. So there is you know we've still got >> this week you've still got next week. >> Yeah. >> It'll probably run to >> the end of bank holiday, >> right? >> And then and then a winner. >> Yeah. Um, but like you said, for for the cost of a fiverr, >> like that's just that is a once in a lifetime opportunity cuz I mean I certainly don't know anyone who's sat on the team photo. >> No. >> You know, who's had a full day out, >> you know, it's probably won't happen again. >> Yeah. >> You know, and like even even last year, so like some of the prizes that we have had, so we've had like a mascot prize, >> like a mascot prize for your kid. like >> we're hoping to get that again as well, but there will be more stuff come coming up >> throughout the season. Yeah. >> Like this is to really like kickstart us off. >> Yeah. >> You know, to and to be fair to the club as well, Dave they've donated >> like Dave Dave said send us an invite an an invoice for a certain amount. Yeah. >> You know, so so that's good. The club are fully on board with it. >> Good. And so they I'm saying this they should be as well because it's all feeds back into the same the same thing. If it helps ever and get three points >> that's all that matters. >> Yeah, isn't it? >> Yeah, that's it. >> That's all that matters. So listen, brilliant prize there. >> If you if you have a couple of sher bits on match day, get yourself down on on Saturday, the first one of the season, if you get in the ground before quarter to two and get a point of blood or three. Um 50 for 50 p from each each pint goes to the 1878s for things like these displays which obviously will help continue to help Hill Dickinson become feel really like home cuz obviously it's just the start of our second season there. While it's a fabulous stadium, >> does it fully feel like home? Well, let's get there with the atmosphere. Every time we have a great experience there, it will feel more like home. So, if you're going to do it, get yourself down. the raffle prize. Check out 1878 Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, even Tik Tok. Might see Baz dancing. Who knows? You never know. It's all there. Get your raffle ticket in. Baz, good luck. >> Absolutely brilliant. Keep it going. And uh any comments below, any questions, leave below cuz I'll obviously pass them on to Barry for you. And if there's any volunteers who want to go and give the everybody a hand cuz these are all volunteers taking time off work to dress the stadium and stuff. If anyone can do for the match is this. Yeah. Yeah. If you can volunteer at the weekend and maybe wave a flag or help setting stuff up, get in touch and I'm sure you'll be pointed in the right direction. >> Just just on that you don't have to sit in the south cuz obviously you can move around. So you know if you're like yourself if you're in lower east >> then you know you can just walk around. So it doesn't it doesn't matter where you are where you are. Okay. That's an important point. So if you can help brilliant let them know. See you later.
