Have You Ever Turned Down An Opportunity From God Because Of Fear? | Sister 2 Sister
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The speaker begins by admitting with full transparency that she has indeed turned down opportunities due to fear, challenging the common notion of always operating in faith without hesitation. She illustrates this struggle through a personal story involving her youngest daughter's medical diagnosis; although she initially quoted scriptures and refused to take her to the doctor believing sickness was not part of God's plan, she eventually realized that such actions were driven by fear rather than true faith. This experience taught her an important lesson about finding balance in how we apply biblical truths, acknowledging that while certain theological statements are correct, allowing them to paralyze us out of a desire to avoid hearing difficult realities is actually operating from a place of fear.
Beyond the fear of negative outcomes or sickness, the speaker also addresses the more subtle and often overlooked issue of fearing success itself. She describes herself as someone who prefers working behind the scenes because she worries about the jealousy and envy that her achievements might provoke in others, particularly those less knowledgeable about spiritual matters. This hesitation stems from a concern over how people misuse prophetic gifts for personal gain rather than for perfecting saints, which disturbs her soul when success brings out ugliness or arrogance in other individuals. Consequently, she sometimes sets herself up to appear humble even if it means holding back on opportunities where God has called her to excel and take responsibility.
A pivotal moment that highlighted this internal conflict occurred during a prayer meeting with male ministry leaders, where the main pastor declared that someone present had a specific word for the pastors in their city and region. The speaker felt an overwhelming sense of urgency as if she were being touched by hot coals because she knew exactly what God was saying to her, yet she remained silent out of fear of appearing brash or loud. She reflects on how foolish it would have been not to speak up when the Holy Spirit had clearly provided a message for that specific moment and audience.
In conclusion, the video emphasizes that we must overcome both the fear of negative consequences and the fear of success in order to fully obey God's calling today. The speaker urges listeners not to let these fears silence them or cause them to reject opportunities where they have been given a clear word from God. By recognizing when our actions are motivated by anxiety rather than faith, we can step forward with confidence to speak what God has placed on our hearts and fulfill the responsibilities He has assigned us without hesitation.

Have you ever turned down an opportunity
because of fear? Cuz I like this faith
over fear stuff.
>> So, I have to be full transparent and
say I absolutely have.
>> Okay.
>> Um of course at the sometimes at the
moment that I was doing it, I uh would
have said I was operating in faith.
So, let me give a couple things. Um
one So, I know that we're talking about
opportunities, but let me just tell you
about situation first. My daughter was
diagnosed with something, my youngest
daughter. And
I started
which we should do, quoting scriptures,
doing all of that. But, what I realized
that I was doing I was operating in
fear. I didn't want to take her to the
doctor. I didn't want to do And then
somebody pulled me to the side and began
to share with me flow.
Take her to the doctors. Do what you
need to do so that you know how to
target your prayers. But, fear hindered
me from doing it cuz I didn't want to
hear anything. God no, God's going to do
God's going to heal. No, no sickness and
disease is not a part of our process.
And all of that was true. And so, this
is where I'm coming with with the
balance of the word, not competition,
going back and forth and you know, it's
the balance in how we use and apply the
word. Then, the other thing for me,
um
you know, as far as opportunity is
concerned, I think I had to deal and
address and sometimes still
uh
address fear of success.
And a lot of people like I I really am
the behind-the-scenes girl. I don't like
the ugliness sometimes that success
brings out in other people. If Cory's
successful, I become jealous.
I become envy. Um
you know, I'm not as knowledgeable about
you in the things of the law, you know?
And so,
um
I may set myself up in a certain way to
appear uh as as if I am. What happens
with success is that there is a
responsibility that comes with it and an
accountability. And sometimes I like I
you guys anybody they know me they know
I move in the prophetic. I don't have
anything against the prophetic. What I
do have a issue with is how people have
used and abused the prophetic. It's
still of God. It's still one of the
offices and according to the word they
exist for the perfecting of the saints.
But when the gifts and the offices get
prostituted
then to me that's out of the will of
God.
And that to me is a little scary. But
that fear
sometimes excelling and what happens
what it does in other people
disturbs my soul.
>> Has anyone else turned down an
opportunity because of fear?
>> Not that I can think of.
>> Okay. Well then I'm going to
>> [laughter]
>> I but you did bring up a
a reminder when you told that story
about I was in a room with all men in
ministry.
And
they were we were praying through
something as a group you know leading I
can't remember the exact
specifics but I remember the the main
lead pastor saying somebody in here has
a word for the for the pastors here and
for the city for this entire region.
And it was on me like a fire of coals. I
knew exactly what it was. I knew exactly
what to say and how it would build and I
just didn't.
>> Oh my God.
>> And that I'll never forget that moment.
You just reminded me and I thought what
a dumb I don't was I didn't want to be
that that brash harsh loud woman in the
room that has something to say but God
like with the fire of God had a word you
know for that me. So we cannot be afraid
in this day when God has a word for us
we need to speak it. [music] Right
right.
>> [music]
[music]
>> Mhm.
