Have YOU Ever Made One of these before?! | Sliding Waterfall Cards

Hey everyone, it's Sam here. And today, I'm going to show you how to make this a fun card. Now, I'm going to call this a sliding waterfall. I saw a little reel on Instagram, and it was a page called Sushi Crafts, I think it is. I'll link to their page below. But, they just put it as a Father's Day card, and I don't know if they've also then followed someone else. So, if you've seen this card before, then let me know, because I'd like to, you know, credit the original person or as as much as I can, but I've changed it up. It's a very, very simple mechanism. It's very easy to put together, and I knew exactly what to do. So, these are my measurements, and I've created this long scene. However, you can have individual pictures, photos, whatever you want on this, which is what I'm going to do for today's tutorial. Now, I've popped this on a 5 by 7 top fold, because the one thing I've noticed if you're going to do it long like I have here, you can't have it displayed like this. It's going to topple over. You can't have it open. It just slides back down again, and it doesn't look so great. And again, it's quite top-heavy. So, for this style, cuz I'm going to do a few. I'm in the middle of doing another mini series with the wiper cards at the moment, but I am going to do a couple of this version, cuz I'd like to do smaller sections that stay within the size of your card. But, you could go on and on and on and on with this. There are so many fun ways to decorate this, and it's going to be great for so many occasions. It all fits in the envelope. You don't need any dies at all to make it. So, let's get started. If you want to see how I've made that one, I will link to the YouTube live where I made it, so you can get the measurements if you want to do that longer piece. But today, I've done all separate panels. So, a little bit quicker and easier. Got my envelope already there as well. I'm using my Festive Friends stamp set. If this is still available, I'll link it below. And then, I've got this old set here, which has got all your action words, and I'm using the one that says pull, but you could use an arrow, and you could even write the words as well. I've already prepared my card blank. If you're cutting this from scratch, it's a piece of 10 by 7. Along the 10-in side, you're going to score it 5 in. And then, you're going to And then, I've stuck a piece of 4 and 3/4 by 6 and 3/4 inside the card, and then another piece on the top. This is lovely glittery card. So, I've already prepared three of my panels. You may just want to have two pieces. So, you might just want to have it so it goes like that. For example, you don't have to have all four. But, if you want to do exactly like me, then you want four pieces of 8 and 1/2 by 4. And along the 8 and 1/2 side, you're going to score all of them at 4 and 8 in. So, yeah. Okay. And then you want to fold and burnish. Burnish the score lines. Give it a good burnish, and I'd recommend you use a lightweight cardstock. Like even like a 200, cuz you're going to add matte layers to this, but you can see if I put this all together again. You see the dimension. You've got a good quarter of an inch dimension there. So, you want to keep that cardstock as light as possible. Once you add your matte layers, it's going to add some strength to it. But, I'd recommend, you know, there is a bit of weight to that now. So, maybe this one's better to be hand delivered. I know some of you, different parts of the world, your letters cards go through runners. We don't have that in the UK, so you could still pop this in a like a padded envelope. Small letter, you're still going to be able to, you know, the postage isn't going to be too much. So, fold and burnish, and then you're going to add your glue. You're going to fold this tab inside. And you're going to run your glue all along that 1/2 in tab. And then keeping that closed, fold that over. So, you're creating a little pocket. And actually, that's another thing I wanted to say. Each one of these is a pocket. And you can see, you've got all this space. So, you could add a gift card in there. You could seal off the bottom end. You could have little pull tabs. You know, punch a little finger pull there. You could pop photos on all of this. Have more photos popping out. So, each one of these, you could put some money in as well. So, yeah. Again, like I said, lots and lots of ways to change this up. Great for birthdays. Think someone's maybe 21st, you could have it a really long one. Picture of them from birth all the way up to 21, and you could have money in all of the little pockets. I think that would be nice. Okay, so I've prepared all of my other ones here. You then want to cut yourself three strips that are 1 in by A4 or letter size, whatever you've got, 11 in or 11 and 3/4, it doesn't matter. But I've done 1 in. However, if you want to do half an inch, you can do. What that will mean, so you'll see here your front one, you've got the full 4 by 4 section. When you pull, I just do the next one, you'll see it only go, you'll see it will pull out but it have 1 in hidden. So you got a smaller section here. If you've got a particular stamp and it doesn't quite fit in that size, then you could cut these to half an inch and it will give you an extra half an inch width. But you can make these, I've done 4 in wide, you could make them 6 in. You can make them the whole kind of size of your card blank. So it'd be even bigger. Doesn't have to be 4 by 4, I'm just playing around, I thought it was a nice little size and it fits nicely on that card. So again, once you've made it, make a template, play around and you'll you'll kind of get an idea of where you can change it. So three pieces of one, like I said, by that A4 or letter size, or even 12 by 12 if that's what you're using. So you're going to take your first one and you want to make sure that you've got your join at the bottom. And it's the the side where you stuck it to is facing away from you. Don't have it at the top because it might catch. You want to have it open like this and you're going to take your first one. You're going to slide this through and just make sure you've got equal amounts on each side. You'll end up trimming some of this off. You want to wrap it around and make sure it's not really tight. You just just nicely just wrap it around, keep it right up to the top and then wrap the other one around. Make sure they're nice and parallel with each other. You could leave it if you want, but I'm just going to cut like half of that one just so I don't have to I glue to so much. If you just kind of roughly see there if you want to grab a pencil. So I know that that's where I need to add my glue. Like I said, you could cut it right down so you're just gluing a little bit there at the end. This is just make sure it's nice and secure. Make sure you don't get any glue anywhere else. And then just fold that. Now another little tip, because it's a sliding mechanism, if you've got a piece of wax, this is just an old tea light, but a really, really good tip, just run your wax on the sides where it's going to slide. Open that up. Don't worry about any of the wax there. And then just buff it off and it's you've not seen me or heard me say this before, it's just like if you're polishing, just doing it you know, your household polishing, you spray your polish and then you rub it off with your duster and it leaves it nice and shiny. It's just the same with the cardstock. You know, sometimes you might have little rough a few bits on the card, but also if that when you wrap it around, if it is just a little bit tight, this is going to make a difference. And then I'm just going to brush that off and it just makes those sides nice and smooth. Just pop a little bit on here as well. You can do a little test. Just slide that. See there? That's what you want that to do. And you will notice a difference. Now already [snorts] I can feel that's really smooth. But you want to make sure each one moves. Put it back to the top. And you're going to take your next one. Like I said, make sure that join is at the bottom. We're going to stick this right over the top. We're only attaching it to this piece here. Don't add any glue or anything there. You could use double-sided tape if you want. Okay. So like I said, you may want to stop there. You can pop your little pull tabs so it sticks under this one. When you pull that down, you've just got that little slide, you might have a little hidden message that you want to appear. So, you can just, like I said, just do a couple. But, you just want to repeat that again now. So, this time, this is going to go through this one. You're going to wrap it around, add your glue, and then stick the next one. Again, make sure that that little join is always at the bottom. And then, again, so that one's stuck down, and then you'll put through the next one again, wrap it around, and then stick your last one on top. Okay, so they are now all stuck down. Once you're happy it's all secure, pull the top, and they should all slide out. So, now we can decorate. So, you've got your 4x4 section here. So, I've cut a piece of 3 and 3/4 squared, and I'm going to have this one here. So, that is what you'll see when you take it out of the card. That's the top one. I'll bring this one in here as well, so you can just see. Then, and where do I want to have these in? Um, I'm going to have that one. There we go. I'm going to have those three. So, these are all 2 and 5/8 by 3 and 3/4. Now, you want to make sure that whatever you're sticking on these is completely flat. So, stamped images, or maybe some or maybe you're printing some images, photographs, but it has to be completely flat cuz obviously everything's sliding on top of each other. I've then cut this piece here, and I've just stamped the pull. You just want to give yourself a bit of space, and this is sticking behind this last one here. So, you're best sticking it down when it's all open, that way you know it's not going to stick under any of these. I'm just going to take a little bit more off there. So, just a little glue, and just pop that in the middle there. So, I'm going to stick the others down, so I can just carefully slide those all back over the top. And now, you want to add your glue all over the back of that, and stick it onto your card blank. Like I said, you might have a 6x6 with lots of mats and layers, and you're going to pop that right in the middle. This could go into the middle of this card here, but I'm going to pop it over to the left slightly just so it's the same. I've got the little holly there. And plus when I pull that out, it just balances it a little bit. Okay, so there is the finished card. Just make sure that you stick anything on here is completely flat as well cuz obviously this is going to slide out. But now, how lovely is that? It's so cute. And like I said, it does display like so with it all open. So, I think it looks really sweet. Very pleased with these. Hope you've enjoyed and like my version of this.
