Video summary
Today marks a special occasion as the speaker celebrates World Bicycle Day with immense enthusiasm, sharing a personal journey that began with a youthful vow to never own a car and to rely solely on a bicycle for all transportation. At forty-seven years old, this commitment remains unbroken, as he rides daily to visit his mother, run errands at the grocery store, join Thursday night cruiser rides in Boulder, Colorado, and embark on thousands of miles of bikepacking adventures. For him, cycling is not merely a mode of transport but a lifelong passion that has defined his lifestyle for decades, proving that one can maintain this habit well into adulthood with dedication and joy.
The speaker highlights several profound benefits of cycling that resonate deeply with many people, ranging from physical health and environmental stewardship to the unique social connections it fosters. He explains that riding a bike instantly improves his mental state, lifting him out of bad moods or enhancing good ones, while also allowing him to witness breathtaking natural beauty like rainbows, sunsets, and clouds that are often missed when traveling by car. Furthermore, he notes that cycling has been the catalyst for meeting some of his best friends, including strangers who become companions during remote adventures, thereby strengthening his sense of connection to other people, nature, animals, and the world at large.
Ultimately, the core message is one of pure love for the activity itself, transcending any list of advantages or arguments about its utility. The speaker admits that while he could talk endlessly about how good biking is for health and the planet, the true reason he continues is simply because he absolutely loves it and hopes to keep riding until he is an old man. He encourages viewers who have neglected their bikes to rediscover the freedom and joy they felt as children when they first learned to ride, suggesting that even a short ride around the block can restore that sense of happiness. For those without a bicycle, he suggests finding any outdoor activity that brings similar joy, concluding with a warm wish for everyone to embrace the spirit of cycling and celebrate the day.

Hello my friends and happy World Bicycle
Day. Today is a very exciting day
because I love riding my bike. And you
know, come to think of it, I celebrate
World Bicycle Day every single day
because I ride my bike every single day.
When I was really young, I made a vow to
myself to never have a car and to ride
my bike everywhere. Here I am at age 47,
I'm still riding my bike every single
day everywhere. I ride my bike to the
grocery store, I ride my bike to see my
mom, I ride my bike with my cute
girlfriend, I ride my bike on Thursday
nights here in Boulder, Colorado for our
Thursday night cruiser ride. I ride my
bike thousands of miles sometimes to go
on a big bike packing adventure and the
reasons why I love riding my bike, and
I'm guessing you're going to connect
with some of these, is because it's fun.
And it's good for your health, and it's
good for the environment. I've met some
of my best friends through the world of
cycling.
And when I'm on a big adventure, I've
met amazing strangers who become my
friends out in the middle of nowhere.
When I get on my bike, I almost
immediately feel better. It is so good
for my mental health. Some days I might
be having a bit of a bummer of a day or
I'm in a bad mood, I jump on my bike and
I instantly feel better. And some days I
feel amazing and I jump on my bike and
it makes my day even more amazing.
I have seen incredible beauty on the
seat of my bicycle. Sometimes it's a
beautiful cloud or a rainbow or a
sunset, you get what I mean. When you're
outside, that's where the magic happens.
And I just feel more connected to
myself, I feel connected to other people
and to nature and to the animals and to
the world at large.
>> It is so beautiful!
>> I can talk all day long about the
benefits of riding a bike, but when it
comes down to it, I just love it. I
absolutely love riding my bike, and I
hope to be riding my bike until I'm an
old man. If you're watching this video
and you think, "Man, I haven't touched
my bike in a long time. It's in the
garage." Go out there and pump up the
tires and ride around the block, and I
bet you you'll have that feeling when
you were a little kid and you first
tried riding the bike. You had the
freedom in your hair, maybe you had a
bell on your handlebars like this.
It'll bring back all of that joy. And if
you don't have a bike,
just get outside in whatever way makes
you happy, you know?
Cheers everybody. Happy World Bicycle
Day.
