GAUFF vs ANDREEVA | US Open 2026 QF | Tennis Talk Preview
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The quarterfinal match at the 2026 US Open features a blockbuster showdown between Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva, both of whom are aiming to reach the semifinals with a genuine chance at the title. Andreeva entered the tournament as the fifth seed and navigated her path to this stage with relative ease, defeating Chen in straight sets in the first round and Lee in the second. Her run continued through Paquet in the third round after a tight second set, followed by a comeback victory against Potapova in the fourth round where she recovered from dropping the first set to advance.
Gauff, seeded fourth, also had a straightforward journey to the quarterfinals, overcoming Sonmez and Badosa in straight sets during her opening two rounds. She secured victories over Bucsa in the third round and Yovich in the fourth, with the latter match featuring a close second set before Gauff closed it out decisively. The two players have a significant history having met five times previously, with Gauff holding a perfect 5-0 head-to-head record that includes their most recent encounter on clay at Roland Garros, where Andreeva won the first set but Gauff rallied to take the match.
The analysis suggests that this hard court matchup will be particularly interesting given Andreeva's tendency to become affected by the atmosphere when things go against her, making crowd noise a potential liability for her. To secure a win, Andreeva must start strong and attempt to quiet the raucous crowd while relying heavily on her serve, whereas Gauff needs to energize the audience and deliver powerful groundstrokes alongside solid serving. The commentator notes that this is a massive quarterfinal featuring champions from the last two French Opens, predicting a tight three-setter where Andreeva's ability to maintain composure will be crucial against the hostile environment.
Ultimately, despite expecting a close contest, the expert prediction favors Coco Gauff to claim the victory in three sets. The primary concern remains the factor of the crowd, which could turn ugly for Andreeva if she fails to keep her cool under pressure, potentially leading to a significant upset or a dominant performance by the American player. Viewers are encouraged to weigh in on their own predictions regarding who will emerge victorious in this highly anticipated clash between two rising stars of women's tennis.

Coco Gauff vs. Mirra Andreeva, is a
blockbuster match up over in the
quarterfinals of the US Open in 2026.
And both players are looking to make the
semifinals and have a real shot at this
title. Andreeva entered the tournament
as number five seed and would take on
Chen in the first round. No problem
getting through in straight 6-2 6-2. In
the second round she'd take on Lee and
again no problem getting through in
straight sets 6-0 6-2. In the third
round she'd take on Paquet and after a
close second set would get through in
straight 6-2 7-6. In the fourth round
she'd take on Potapova the 24th seed who
had taken out Anisimova in the previous
round. And after dropping the first set
she'd fight back to win 5-7 6-4 6-3 to
advance to the quarterfinals. Gauff
entered the tournament as the number
four seed and would take on Sonmez in
the first round. She had no problem
getting through in straight 6-3 6-4. In
the second round she'd take on Badosa
and after a close second set would get
through in straight 6-4 7-6. In the
third round she'd take on Bucsa and
again no problem getting through in
straight 6-3 6-4. In the fourth round
she'd take on Yovich who was coming off
an epic match against Ayala in the
previous round. And after a close second
set would get through in straight 6-1
6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
These two have played five times before
with Gauff leading 5-0 in the
head-to-head including match this year
on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
Andreeva won the first set but Gauff
came back to win. So it's going to be
really fun to see how Andreeva does on
the hard courts against Coco here. If
Andreeva's going to win this one she
just needs to get off to a good start
and try and quiet this crowd down. She
is the type of player that does get a
little bit wrapped up in the atmosphere
and you know sometimes negatively when
things are against her and the crowd is
going crazy. So she really needs to get
off to a good start quiet the crowd down
but also use her serve if she's going to
get the win. If Gauff's going to win
this one she also needs to get off to a
good start to get that crowd going and
you know get them all riled up and going
crazy. She also has to serve well and
obviously hit massive groundstrokes well
as well if she's going to get this win.
Very fun match up here. The French Open
champions of the last two years meeting
in a massive quarterfinal. I've got with
Gauff though in a close three setter. I
reckon she'll get it done in the end but
I just think this crowd's going to be a
massive factor against Andreeva and if
Andreeva doesn't keep her cool this
could get really really ugly. So I'm
going to go with Gauff in three but let
me know your thoughts below who's going
to win this one.
