GAME OVER FOR THE NFL IF THE RAVENS OFFENSE IS REALLY ABOUT TO DO THIS...

As Ravens fans, we already have super high expectations for this offense, but after you listen to what Lamar Jackson had to say about it, the bar is going to be raised that much higher. >> What should Ravens fans expect from this offense? >> Man, I can't call it what this offense is. Everywhere is a lot of moving parts with our offense, man. It's guys flying around. Uh it's like it's I don't want to say it's like a one-trick pony because it's far from that, you know, it's it's everything everything you need in the offense play action, you know, drop back, uh run game. It's like everything you want in the offense system. And like coaches, like I just said with coach Jessie, the attention to detail, he's overly like preaching that, you know, he want every guy to know what everyone's doing basically with the offense. So, it's just making everyone's job a lot easier and I just can't wait to showcase it. >> Oh, man. I mean, if I'm a Ravens fan, we [laughter] are. I'm getting the chills. So, elaborate on that. When you start talking about showcasing it, what what is this offense going to look like in terms of those explosive plays? Like you you're a two-time MVP. How is it going to take your game, your name to a different level? >> I can't call it, you know, until we out there on the field. But like from practice, just the inside of practice and what I've been seeing on film, it was like, man, I don't believe a defense is prepared for what they're what's in store for us or what's in store for them. >> And we literally have every single reason in the world to believe exactly what Lamar Jackson just said. He is two for two when it comes to brand new offensive coordinators and winning MVPs. So, in order to win a most valuable player award, that means you really got to put on a show. You you really got to be setting yourself and your team apart from your performance. And with Lamar Jackson, even if it wasn't a new offensive coordinator, the expectations should and are always high when it comes to number eight simply because of what he can do and what he has done. But now, from what we've seen with this offense so far with a Tyler Huntley, from what we've seen with this offense so far with a Josh Feeney Yano. Just think about everything that they did, especially how this offense put an undrafted rookie free agent quarterback and had him looking like he did in the preseason. Imagine what a veteran a two-time should have been three-time MVP Lamar Jackson can do with it. I remember way early in this offseason when Jesse Minter talked about it. He said, "With the offense, we don't want Lamar Jackson to have to run. We want the running to be a bonus." And when I heard him say that, I said, "Oh my goodness. He's speaking like us." That's what so many of us fans been wanting with this Ravens offense for the longest. But then, when we saw Tyler Huntley, who is mobile, he ain't Lamar Jackson mobile, but specifically when we saw Josh Feeney Yano. And he could scoot a little bit, but nothing too crazy, but the offense was still moving them chains. The offense was still moving the ball down field. The offense was still scoring. And it ain't like Josh Feeney Yano was taking off every play. But get this, [snorts] there were a lot of times where he faced pressure. But even with that pressure, he still converted a lot of those plays. He still ended up getting positive yards when guys were in his face, when defenders were all over him, he still made it happen. That's the type of offense that we want to see. So when Lamar Jackson and the starters are playing against the Colts in week one, we want this offense to be clicking. We want this offense to be humming, but we got all the confidence in the world that they will be based off of what we've seen so far. Will some things be shaky here and there? Yeah, it could be. Cuz that's part of it. Everything is new. But at the same time, I don't expect it to take much time for these guys to get going. I don't expect it to be in weeks two, three, four, five where they still moving sluggish and whatnot. No, especially because again, what we've seen thus far, the evidence that we've seen in the preseason. Preseason is supposed to be very vanilla. It's supposed to be very, very basic. We ain't supposed to be getting much of anything. But, we still saw beautiful situational play calling. We saw play calling where the run game was paired perfectly with the pass game and it worked in harmony. And that's all we want. That that that's all we need. Lamar Jackson talked about something that really stood out to me with Jesse Minter. He said that Jesse Minter wants everybody to know what everybody has to do on every single play and he continues to talk about something that's been echoed from the Baltimore Ravens players all off season long, attention to detail. But, it sounds like Jesse Minter is taking his defensive mind and things that he would implement in the defensive locker room, but moving them over to the offensive side of the ball, too, when it comes to attention to detail and everybody really playing for each other. So, we already know the defense, they going to be lights out. We We already know they going to be on point. But, the offense, in my opinion, they're not going to be too far behind, either. So, we can't wait till September 13th. The the guys, the inexperienced guys fighting for roster spots. All this pressure is on them like crazy because they know that their spot is not guaranteed. And it wasn't. And that's the unfortunate part. One of the unfortunate parts about football. Like these guys, they train their whole lives, they work their whole lives, they go through college, they go through the draft, a lot go undrafted, but this is their final chance and a lot they ain't make it. And they played their last football game, a lot of people played their last football game ever in week three of the preseason. Some may try out in other leagues, some may go for other experiences and whatnot, but a lot of guys, they will never take another snap in the NFL ever again. And that's a harsh reality, man. So, shout out to all of them. Um but yeah, man, for them to have that immense pressure on them and have the lack of experience, but to come out looking like they were looking, that's crazy. Cuz all of them look like they have been there, done that. All of them did. And and people always say how going from college to the pros it's a lot more difficult. It's a lot tougher. You hear that all the time. But it ain't look like it. Jesse Minter ain't have these rookies and inexperienced guys looking like they were struggling too much. So, shout out to excellent coaching. Anyway, continuing. Uh he said, uh "Also, this defensive roster hasn't changed much from the triple crown 2023 defense. I feel like if you matched up them rosters, you can see we got better in some spots like corner and safety and pretty much added players to the defensive line. Switch Bynum and Stephens with Cheeto and T.J. Tampa, replace Patrick Queen with Teddy Buchanan and possibly a breakout player in Tren Simpson and replace Kyle Van Noy and your boy Jadeveon Clowney." I don't want to I I don't like that phrase already. He said replaced Kyle Van Noy, who's a Viking now. But you said replaced Jadeveon Clowney, too. I don't like that no more. We should we should just throw away the whole question. You know now I'mma give you a pass this one time. Anyway, he said and replace Vinny and your boy Crony with Trey and Mike and the others and still have Beaks and replace Marcus Williams and Geno Stone with Malachi and Jaylen Hawkins. I'm trying to be realistic realistic with myself and tell myself ain't no way we going 17 and 0, but every time I look through the schedule and the roster, I'll be like it's really possible in my opinion, but it most likely won't happen. Hey, it probably won't, but we would love for it to and we would love to get as close as we possibly can. Like, can you imagine? So for instance, Ravens start off 2 and 0. Cool, nice, great. Then they go 4 and 0. Cool, nice, great. Then they go 5 and 0. Cool, nice, great. Then that 5 and 0 turns to 6 and 0. Then there's going to start being chatter. Can the Ravens do it? Then if 6 and 0 turns to 8 and 0, then it's really going to be chatter. Is this Ravens team going to lose anytime soon? And they will be the talk like, man, they they're undefeated and they're not even in their prime yet. They're not even in the the thick of the season yet. Then that 8 and 0, if it turns to 11, ooh. >> [laughter] >> Ooh, then you start getting all the games switched to prime time and everybody circling Ravens on their calendar like, oh, they're going to lose this week. Then 11 and 0 turns to a 13, oh, then then it's a it's a still a conversation right there. Then there's a lot of pressure. That'd be a lot of pressure on the Ravens, too. But then if 13 and 0 turns to 15, man, that Anyway, he said, but enough of the excitement and down to the question. Do you think EDC really cooked something this season? And what grades would you give him? Hmm. That's a great question. Um the way that the season started uh with the Maxx Crosby, I was cool with that move. I loved it. I was like, "Wow, so it was Harbaugh all along that was holding us back from really uh being aggressive with trades and whatnot." But um then EDC was like, "Hold up. It wasn't all Harbaugh. I got to take some of the blame, too." He said, "That knee uh it ain't so good, but what's even worse is me sending two draft picks for this uh this ain't like me. Uh reject. Let me get Let me get a refund." EDC made sure he kept that receipt on Maxx Crosby. But he did bounce back in a major way uh with Odafeh Owneh uh or Trey Hendrickson first, then Odafeh Owneh. So, and then we still got a first next year, too. So, not mad at that at all. At all. Um really just even bef- before uh before we got before that whole ordeal happened, hiring Jesse Minter. I was initially somebody that said, "I ain't want nobody from the Harbaugh tree." Uh if it's if they're from the Harbaugh tree, no, thank you. I don't want it. But then I said, "Wait a minute. Me saying that doesn't make any sense. That doesn't make any sense. Because so many of us would have loved for Mike Macdonald to stay. We would have loved for Mike Macdonald to take over as head coach after that 2023 season. Guess what? Mike Macdonald was from the Harbaugh tree. So, I was like, man, I can't I can't sit up here and say, "Oh, I don't want nobody from the Harbaugh tree. Don't bring me nobody from Harbaugh tree." If we were sitting there clamoring for Mike Macdonald, it wouldn't make any sense. So, when they hired Jesse Minter, I was like, "All right, cool. We've seen what he did over there uh with the Chargers with that defense. Heard about what he did uh over in Michigan." So, he got a nice track record and he got experience with this d- with a defense. And he used to be with the Ravens, too. But with that, that was okay, nice hire. Then the staff that he assembled, it seemed like he was just he was making an all-star staff. Um but with EDC, specifically with the players, um the draft, free agency, Jaylon Hawkins. I think that's the most underrated signing that the Ravens got this year and I think that can make such a big difference. And they can free up Kyle Hamilton even more. Malik Harrison Stokes will be that much more experienced, so he should be even better than he was last year. He'll be much better than he was last year. Um at cornerback, we pretty much got the same guys as last season and I think that EDC is really banking on Jesse Minter and his scheme helping our secondary out. Um the pass rush helping the secondary out and cuz a lot of our roster, especially on defense, it's a lot of the same stuff. A lot of the same people. We did add Calais Campbell, so that was a solid move right there. Madubuike, him just being back, he'll be back. He might not be week one. Might not even be week two, but it should be early in the season. It should be within them first four games cuz they didn't put him on injured reserve. So, him being back, that could be such a huge plus. Huge plus. Um Ethan Burke, him making the roster, them signing him as a UDFA and him making the roster, that nice addition. And Eric DeCosta actually being willing, he's on a practice squad now, but Eric DeCosta actually being willing to move off from Adisa Isaac and risk him the waivers. And that was a draft pick. That was a former third-round draft pick. You know how much it takes for the Ravens to cut a draft pick? Especially a third-rounder? Like, what? Ravens, they they don't be trying to budge with that stuff, man. They really don't. They like if they draft especially if they drafted you in as high as a third round, they obviously want it to work out. But if it doesn't, they still want it to work out. If it's not If it ain't looking good, they like, "Oh, no, we going to hold on to this player." We holding on to them. We ain't moving on. And they So, for them to actually do that, that was crazy. That was insane. But in my opinion, it shows growth. It really did. Um at wide receiver, obviously they got it done with Zay Flowers, great move. Uh with Rashod Bateman, he's obviously still here. Uh the off-field stuff, EDC can't control that at all. So, NFL, we'll see what the NFL ends up doing about that. Uh James Proche, Tylan Wallace, Demarcus Robinson, uh they Chris Moore, did he come back to the practice squad? I think he did, but I don't remember for sure. But anyway, uh Taysir Mack, James Washington. At wide receiver, I feel like he should have gotten uh a veteran, too. But, I was still like, "Okay, cool. If if he didn't, all right. It's a new offense now. It's a new coaching staff and a new regime. Let's see how they handle this. Let's see how they operate." And they seem to be willing to be like, "Hey, if somebody's more talented than the next, move the next person up." Because with James Proche, we kept hearing off season James Proche did this, James Proche did that. Then boom, Taysir Mack, he went from number three to number four at wide receiver. So, it sucks for Taysir Mack because we was hyped to see Taysir Mack, and we still are excited to see him. But now James Proche, he's going to have more of an increased role over Taysir Mack. Well, that's the expectation. So, that's a good strategy by the the the coaching staff. Not playing favorites, not playing even uh your your tenure with the team or your tenure in the NFL. Like, "Oh, just this guy has been in the NFL for longer than this guy, so the guy who's been in the NFL longer than he's going to get the start." No. They ain't just going with that. So, you got to respect it. Um Eric DeCosta, uh uh Well, as far as the draft picks, the rookies this year, uh we'll see. It we can't truly judge it until Well, I mean, we could judge it at their impact this year, but really like two, three years down the road, uh and just looking back at this draft class, seeing how they were. Um but free agency, again, Trey Hendrickson was an excellent grab. Uh Jaylon Hawkins, John Simpson was an interesting one. Um I just hope that he does well. I hope that he does well. Uh the center position, they Danny Pinto was looking like he was going to be the guy, but I think they just they very unsure about that. They very they have been very unsure about it. About how to address it. They signed Danny Pinto, they signed Javon Gwyn. Uh they still had Corey Bullock um before he's obviously going now with the Panthers now. Um they brought on undrafted free agent Nick Dawkins. Um so I I just felt like they they were having a bunch of different tryouts there, cuz they just really just didn't know. They didn't know. Uh so hopefully that goes well. And even to this point, they didn't even name the starting center yet. Still to to this point. And we play in about a week and a half. So they got some time, but I'm sure they'll they'll they'll have it by this week. So going into game week preparation, they going to know that who their starting offensive line is, cuz they got to work together. Like the center got to have connection with Lamar Jackson. So yeah, they have to get that figured out. Um but again, back to your question, I I know I I said a whole lot. Um but did EDC cook really cook something this season? And what grade would I give him? Yeah, well our our our team looks nice overall. Obviously, we got to see it on the field, too. Um but if I had to give him a grade, mm I would probably say a B plus. A B plus. Because the coaching staff is seeming really good. Um the team overall seem like they're in a really good position. Just uh I just question how he dealt with the offensive line, specifically the center position. Um and the wide receiver position as well. And may maybe even tight end. Tight end, too. Uh because obviously we kept Mark Andrews, but Donnell Smith, he's a blocking tight end. All right, cool. Uh and then after Mark Andrews, as far as pass catchers, it's two rookies. Not to say that they can't do it. I'm sure they can, but I thought that they probably should have went with a veteran there behind Mark Andrews, too. A pass-catching tight end. Cuz I really thought Davante Jackson, I'm like, Davante Jackson just been sitting there. He just been chilling. This is This whole off-season he just been chilling there waiting for us to go get him. But then the Chargers end up signing him. But So yeah, that So yeah, I would say yeah, I would say a B+. A B+ is what the grade that I would give EDC. How about y'all? Are you ready for some football? Next question came from Evette. She said, "What's up? What's happening?" She said, "What up though? And prayers and good vibes to you and your family. Hey, I appreciate that. Thank you very much, Evette. She said, "Now that I have some time to separate emotions from facts, what are your thoughts on Oh, okay. Hey, sometimes it could be tough to do that for all of us. But let's see what she about to talk about. She said, "John Harbaugh, great coach, glad he has moved on. The last few years of play calling or lack of had been predictable and painful, just to name one issue. Uh Mike D, awesome coach, glad he did not become the Ravens coach at what seemed to be the right time because I do not think he would have full control. Do you think John would have had too much influence for the organization to make the right changes?" You mean you talking about Mike McDonald? Like if if Mike McDonald had taken over uh in 2024? Um and do you do you think John Harbaugh would have had too much influence for the organization to make the right changes? Um I'm a little confused by that question. Um so it sounds like if when you talk about Mike D, again, I'm I'm assuming you're talking about Mike McDonald. But um if he would have became the head coach, it sounds like you would would be saying that John Harbaugh would still be around. Like he may have a position in the front office or something like that. So if if if that's the case, let me know if I'm wrong though. But if that's the case, then yeah, that that could have been scary. Cuz if John Harbaugh was still here, yeah, John Harbaugh would still be here. And I I feel like even if he wasn't the head coach, he would still have a whole lot of authority if he was still in the building. I I think he would have have a whole lot of authority. Again, if that's what you're referring to. I think it is, but again, I I could be completely wrong and off base. So let me know. Uh you also said the new and improved Ravens team. I love the play calling. Not sure we have the best team on paper, but it's a heck of a balanced team and I think the sky is the limit. Some reservations on Loop, but oh that takes me back to the previous question. Um yeah, the way that they handled kicker, too. Uh was woof, yeah. Now, I I will say that's why I appreciate y'all. That's why I appreciate the comment section. I appreciate y'all chiming in, letting me know how y'all feel about things. I saw a lot of people say that with uh Jake Moody, with the Ravens signing Jake Moody, it's not necessarily put pressure on Tyler Loop, but it could be a confidence booster. It could be like a a little just try to get Tyler Loop's mental up like hey you got it kid. You're good. So hey, I hope it works. I really do. Anyway, she said I think with the new game play we will not need to depend on a kicker as much as the old Ravens needed to. Ooh, I just saw somebody having that conversation earlier. About the Ravens just always just having to rely on the kicker so much. They say hey that's John Harbaugh football and >> [snorts] >> part of it could have been. But you you want your kicker to be clutch. Now I will say and I said this before I think if Justin Tucker had been on a lot of other teams he would not be the Justin Tucker that he was with the Ravens. The reason I say that is because Justin Tucker had to be put out there in so many situations so many times. So he got to kick over and over and over and over and over again because our offense was not nothing crazy for a lot of years with Justin Tucker. So he was out there a lot a whole lot. So that's how he ended up becoming one of the best kickers to ever do it. Because our offense was just it was just it could be ugly sometimes. But hey, don't take away none from him. He was still a baller. He did his thing. And in his last couple years with the Ravens he just had a workout with the Jets though. So hey, let's let's see what happened with Justin Tucker. Anyway she said as always love the show and tell everyone to hit that like button. Hey, I appreciate that Evette. She said Evette the biggest fan in the D. So shout out to I'm assuming you're talking about Dallas unless you could be talking about Detroit. So that that could be it too. I'm actually sending in this question watching the Ravens dog walk the Commanders right now. And what I can say is we've been doing really good so far. Everybody keeps saying it's only preseason but football is football. I like that. What a what a comeback to people saying that. Oh, it's only the preseason man. Football is football. These games don't even count. Football is football. Well, well, well, wait till you guys do you see what you do in the regular season. Football is football. How can somebody refute that? How can they argue against that? Football is football. They can't say nothing. Anyway, continuing he said, "I'm excited for the new system and seeing what all Mr. Mentor will bring."
