First Aid: Be Prepared to Act When Every Second Counts | Dr. Kishen Goel | Manipal Hospital Broadway
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The video emphasizes that first aid is a critical skill essential for everyone, not just medical professionals, because any individual can become a first responder during an emergency. Situations such as a sudden collapse, severe bleeding from trauma, road traffic accidents, burns, or choking incidents require immediate action where every second counts. In these critical moments, the role of the bystander is vital, and knowing basic life-saving techniques like CPR for unresponsive patients, applying pressure compression bandages for bleeding, or performing the Heimlich maneuver for choking can be the difference between life and death.
To effectively handle these emergencies, the speaker outlines a simple three-step approach that anyone can follow. The first step is to remain calm and stay with the patient to provide reassurance and prevent panic from spreading. The second step involves calling for professional help immediately to ensure advanced medical support is on its way. The third step consists of performing specific first aid maneuvers if the responder knows how, but it is important to note that even without technical knowledge, simply staying with the patient and arranging for assistance constitutes a crucial form of first aid that can stabilize the situation until professionals arrive.
The core message of the presentation is a call to action for viewers to commit to learning these life-saving skills today. By taking the time to understand and practice techniques like CPR and choking relief, individuals empower themselves to act confidently when seconds count. Furthermore, the speaker encourages everyone to share this knowledge with their friends and family members, creating a wider network of prepared responders who can protect their communities. Ultimately, the video concludes with a promise to learn first aid now so that we are ready to act whenever an emergency occurs.

>> I want to discuss about one very
important topic.
That is first aid. First aid is not only
for doctors, nurses, or trained
professionals. It's for everyone because
during the time of emergency anyone can
become a first responder. Like example,
suddenly a patient got collapsed in
front of you, a bleeding after a trauma,
or a road traffic accident,
burns, or some patients have any
obstruction, or while eating suddenly
become choking. In all these cases, time
is very important. During this critical
time, the first responder plays a very
important role. The first thing, like in
cases of unresponsive, we can start with
CPR. In cases of bleeding, we can apply
a pressure compression bandage. And in
cases of choking, we can do something
called Heimlich maneuver. So, these are
some basic first aid which has to be
learned by everyone. There are three
steps of first aid. First is stay calm
and clear. Stay with the patient.
Second, call for help.
Third is doing the first aid
maneuver if you know.
Sometimes, if you don't know anything,
just staying with the patient and
arranging for the help is the first most
important first aid which you do. So, on
this day, let us promise to learn first
aid, learn CPR, and also at the same
time teach your friends and family
members about this first aid maneuver.
Thank you.
