Finally Seeing Transformers The Movie In The Theater

Toy Hacks, making Transformers look amazing since 1999. So, this weekend I finally got to achieve a lifelong dream. Well, a 40year-old dream. I got to watch Transformers the movie on the big screen. I never got to see it on the big screen before. Uh, I lived in a po West Virginia town. We never got Transformers the movie at the theater. My experience with Transformers the movie was the Marvel comics adaptation. and seeing Optimus Prime die in the panels of a comic book just didn't have the same type of impact it did for those of you who saw it on the big screen. Of course, I love the movie. I've had it on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, now 4K, and I've watched it countless times. And just seeing it on the big screen was absolutely amazing. And it just really worked out well how I got to see it. It was kind of like all these events just lined up in order to for me to see the movie this weekend. And it all started in the beginning of August when I was when I was visiting my brother in Huntington, West Virginia. I went to see him for Geekfest. And while I was there, I met some of his comic book friends and they told me about a West Virginia comic and toy show and I decided, hey, I want to participate. So, the original plan was I was going to visit my brother. He and I was going to share a table. He flips comics. He's huge into comics. And I was going to take some figures and comics myself. And as time had progressed, we realized that I had way more stuff than I had planned to take. He had way more stuff than he had planned. There was no way we were going to be able to share a table and be comfortable. We'd be all over each other. And there at the last minute, somebody cancelled. I was a able to get my own table. So, that was pretty sweet. Uh I guess wait before I get into the West Virginia Toy and Comic Show or Comic and Toy Show. comics first for them. I do have to show something off for you. The beginning of the month, I mentioned I was going to get a Peter Colin inspired tattoo and I did last Monday. Hopefully, I can show this off, but here it is. Uh, it's been a week. It's still healing. It's got the little gel on it, but it's Optimus Prime in his alt mode. Um, you got his quote, "Be strong enough to be gentle." I thought over and over again, I was actually on a walk with my wife and the idea hit me. I want to do a new tattoo. I want to make it Peter Cullen, kind of a tribute to him. What was I going to do? I thought maybe I'll do Optimus Prime's head with the title underneath or some type of form of Optimus in robot mode. And then it dawned on me. I already have Optimus in robot mode right here. So, why not do alt mode? I don't know very many people who do the alt mode. So, I've got the truck in black and white. I debated on collar or black and white, but since it's a memorial, a tribute, I decided to do black and white, be strong enough to be gentle. Now, when the tattoo artist finished, he says, "I have an idea to give this a little bit more ump." And I was like, "Well, what is it?" He says, "I want to add smoke coming out of the smoke stacks." and I thought about it and I'm like,"Well, you're the tattoo artist. The guy been doing tattoos for 30ome years. Go for it." So, he did it and I absolutely love it. It's Optimus Prime. He's actually rolling out. So, that's it. That's the one. Now, I'm like, well, shoot. Should I just do an entire Optimus Prime sleeve? Who knows? Time will tell. So, anyway, back to the comic convention. So, I end up going to Huntington with my brother. I have the Jeep packed full of stuff. The show was fantastic. It was so cool, being kind of local, about three hours from me, seeing all these fans of comics and toys and just talking to so many people about this geeky hobby that we love. I've mentioned over and over again, I just don't get that here. Yeah, I have I love traveling to the conventions and things like that just so I can interact with kindred spirits and I'm not able to go to TFcon this year. So, I'm trying to hit all these other smaller cons at least, you know, things fairly close to me. I did the Geekfest in Huntington, the Toy and Comic Show in Huntington, and big news, I will be at Retro Toycon in Greensboro uh at the end of November. So, I'll keep you posted with that. So anyway, the toy and comic show was a blast. I met a lot of subscribers. I met a bunch of new subscribers and just had so much fun. So I get got to give a huge shout out to the West Virginia Comics Buy, Sell, and Trade Facebook group who put on this show. It was great. There was tons of people. They came in spurts. I I sold a lot. I mean, not, you know, didn't get rid of everything, but, you know, I wasn't really expecting to. I mainly went and just I had fun and that's the whole thing. So, going to Transformers the movie, come to find out the town about five miles away from where the comic show was being held was playing Transformers the movie. So, we were able to pack up and be back to my brother's house. I think we got to his house about 5:30. able to change, relax a little bit, and we headed to the Cinear Theater in Huntington to um see Transformers the movie. And it was kind of disappointing because we roll into the theater, there's no movie poster. You walk in, there's none of the swag, none of the merchandise. I actually picked this up from a friend of mine who found it at Target. It's pretty cool sippy cup, if you will. And what I like about it, it's all the uh original characters. The 86 bots aren't on here. Well, except for RC right there. So, I really love that with Prime and Megatron. And what is it lately with Megatron being portrayed without his fusion cannon? Huh? What's up? He needs his cannon. So, anyway, I got my sippy cup. So, we go in, we sit down just in time for the Peter Colin tribute to play. Um, if you've not seen the movie, well, you know that what the movie is, but if you've not seen the 40th anniversary release, getting into some spoiler territory. There is, well, 3, two, one, spoilers start now. There's a beautiful Peter Cullen tribute at the beginning of the movie. We got in just in time to sit down just as it started playing. And, man, you you could you could feel him welling up again. I mean, it it was great. It was uh it was awesome. very very heartfelt. They did a great job with that. Going on to the movie, as I said, it was the first time I saw it on the big screen and it was great. I noticed some things. I mean, I've seen the movie hundreds of times. I noticed a couple things I've never noticed before because the screen was so big. In the scene where Laser Beak is spying on the Autobots and he goes into that factory, I never noticed that all the robots working in the factory were the Dinobots in robot mode. So, and then during the shuttle attack after Megatron blows a hole in the shuttle, he's gone in with Starscream and the Constructicons, there's a scene where it shows the hole and the cone heads are flying right outside the hole in the shuttle. I've never seen that before. Maybe it's always been there. I've just never noticed it. But I thought that was pretty cool. Other than that, I think that was about all the new stuff that I noticed. Uh our theater, the sound seemed a little wonky, and I don't think it was the 4K version. It just didn't seem as crisp. At least not to me. I was just expecting, you know, a spectacular visuals. It just wasn't there. I mean, I'm still not disappointed. I got to see the movie on the big screen. Um, I guess another thing that was kind of disappointing, especially when you see all the people talked about on Facebook, our theater wasn't interactive at all. There was, it was probably about half full. It was on a Saturday night about 7 o'clock, but there were just wasn't that you know how it is when you hang out with a bunch of fans or watching the movie. There wasn't the cheering going on. There wasn't the big conversations. There wasn't people hanging out after the movie or before the movie. It was just they came, sat, watched the movie, and left. There just wasn't that interaction that I would have loved to experience like some of you guys maybe in the bigger metropolitan area, but still fun experience. Uh, the best thing was I went with my brother. So, my brother and I don't get to hang out much. And just the fact we did a comic show together and we went and saw the 40th anniversary of Transformers together. That that was awesome. That is just love it. So, let's get to the ending the new Awakening short. I don't even know how to approach this. I liked it, but I didn't I I like the art style. it when it first popped on the screen, I was like, man, that's a shot going from the 2D animation to this 3D 3D animation, but it worked. It kind of grew on me. I wouldn't mind seeing a whole movie done that way. And the action was really cool with Prime uh in vehicle mode fighting the Insecticons and fighting Soundwave. And you see him using his shoulder cannon launching rockets. That was really cool. And then there was the the Bumblebee thing and where he's a Decepticon now. And then Prime goes and meets the one, the till all are one, the one being, whatever. And you got these different flashbacks to all the the multiveres of Optimus Prime carrying on the battle where he always dies and things like that. And it ends with Prime on Cybertron once again fighting Megatron. And they use the flail and axe again. And that was awesome. long drawn out fight scene with the flail and axe. Loved it. I mean, old school Gander, that scene very briefly in the original cartoon, but is just so iconic now. And I love the fact they used it in the movie. And as the story went on, I won't get into full details just in case some people may have not seen it and they didn't care about any spoilers. Um, it ended pretty, I guess, pretty good. Prime accepts the fact that no matter what he does, that the fight will always go on. He will always pass away, you know, carry bring the Matrix to others, so on so forth. And he walks off into the sunset. So, is that the end we're going to see Optimus Prime? Is Hasbro going to give us a new leader? I mean, I can't imagine Transformers without Optimus Prime. And of course, a lot of people are saying how, oh, that was Peter Collins great sendoff. He did a good good thing. And yeah, I get that, but you also want to keep in mind that that was filmed a long time ago and he did that part a long time ago when, you know, we didn't know he was going to pass away. So, I don't know if that was the plan or that's just how it worked out. Um, and then you have this ending scene where Megatron gets the Matrix. And I felt that that didn't really need to be a part of this story because it just it ended. Megatron picks up the Matrix and he laughs. Screen goes dark. That could be the next toy tie-in, which I really wish they didn't put in the movie because I think, I may be wrong, the next line of the Transformers is going to be the Age of Evolution. And the first series is going to be Megatron Rising. So, Megatron getting the Matrix. That makes perfect sense. I just feel like it didn't need to be part of the movie. I don't want my toy tie in with a toy a toy movie if you know what I mean. Um, another thing is I did not like Megatron's voice in the short. Frank Welker did it, but they just added too much digitization, if that's the proper word, to his voice. It just it sounded off. But still, I I can't complain too much. I'm just nitpicking. I thought it was cool. I love the animation. The story was weird, but I'm kind of used to that with all the multiverse things we got going on anymore and all our favorite fictions. So, it was good. I need to watch it again. I know it's all over YouTube. I had people sharing it with me, but I refuse to watch it until I watch it on the big screen. Excuse me. So, I think I'll watch it again. See if I get more of a feeling to it. I'm I'm just thinking of these things right off the top of my head because it's fresh. I just saw the movie last night. So, yeah, that's pretty much it. I just wanted to throw this out to you. I wasn't really going to do one of these my thoughts on the movie type of deals, but a few of my subscribers did ask me to do it. So, Brad, here you go. Here's my thoughts on the movie. I enjoyed it. I think it's made 416 million already in theaters, and they're actually extending it until October 8th. So, maybe if you you missed it this weekend, you'll still have a chance to see it. So, if you do get a chance, go see it on the big screen. If you've never seen it on a big screen before, it's amazing. And I've already ordered or pre-ordered the Blu-ray, not the Blu-ray, the 4K version. I'll put a link to that in the description of this video if you want to check it out. So, I can watch it at home a few more hundred times. So, yeah, Transformers movie 40th anniversary. Highly recommend it. Go see it. I I was a kid again. I was 10 again. I loved it. Couldn't be happier. It was a great way to cap off an awesome weekend geeking out with my brother.
